whoa, i didnt know you were into superman, arnell ^_^

superman/doomsday got me back into comics after not being into them since i was a kid...of course, after a while i stopped again...but it was a great series for that title. this dvd looks to be really good, and fit the whole story into less than 2 hours. i added their official myspace to mines too. cant wait!

I'm a big fan of the Bruce Tim DC cartoons.
Superman, Batman, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited.
Have all those on DVD.

I'm not really into comics though.
But when I saw the ad for this and saw that it was in the same style as the ones I listed earlier, I just had to check out the site.
And of course I'll be buying this DVD.

*Spoiler Free*

"Superman/Doomsday" is a new take on "The Death of Superman".
Not done exactly like the graphic comic, but done in a new way to keep an unbelievable idea of Superman's death something new and interesting to see.

Done by Bruce Timm of "Superman: The Animated Series" (originally aired on the WB), it takes a more mature tone of the story that was more or less kept tamed by TV standards.
A little more violent, a little more mature in language and themes, but still done in the familiar style as the series, but pulled from nothing of the series.
The style of animation and character design are similar, but the time line of the movie does not fit.
As in the world of comics, 'what-ifs' and 'alternate universes' are nothing new, and this can easily be a 'what if' type situation.
It is enough to wonder 'what if Superman died?"
The final part of that is just how to do it.

It does take all the essentials of any Superman universe.
Superman/Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Metropolis, and more.
Superman's life has moved on and has come to a crossroads of how to move on in a normal life.
Superman and Clark Kent are still separate, but can it always be that way?
Dual identities does cause conflict, for one to be there, the other could not.
That applies when Doomsday is introduced.
Epic battle ensues leading to the eventual 'death' of Superman.
The movie continues on from the lives of citizens of Metropolis without Superman.

Extras of the DVD include commentary.
If you never heard any of Bruce Timm doing commentary on any of his works, then you will be in for a treat as he always gives a great commentary including tid-bits and a good perspective from a producer/fan.
One of the better extras is the "Requiem and Rebirth: Superman Lives!"
You get words and some behind the scenes behind the original idea of "The Death of Superman."
More extras available, but Requiem and Rebirth is definitely one of the must sees.
For an extra bonus, consider purchasing the DVD from Best Buy as it comes packaged with a mini-comic of "Justice League: The New Frontier."

This is a must have for Superman die hard fans.
And Superman delivers like always.

4 out of 5

*Angelo, I think this is a must for you.
Only $15 also.
Like I noted in the review, get it from Best Buy for the extra comic and also a cooler/extra outside cover.

There's also a trailer for "Justice League: The New Frontier" movie that they're doing.
It looks really good.
I'll probably pick that one up also when it is released.
