lately I've been being very bored at home ..so I decided I wanna get a job I went to the nearby Eckerd because I wanted to get change (I hate 20 dollar bills -___-) but the doggie we're helping taking care of for my friend wouldn't stop barking because my brother was out, and so was I.. but it was incredibly HOT... (he's a big ball of fur) but he looked so sad and loooooonely T__T so I took him with me. and I met up with my friend who lives near me and off we went~ (because she needed CD roms) and so we found out dogs weren't allowed in the store, so we took turns going in and stuff (and by the way there was a creepy kid that was outside waiting for his mom and he started doing (bad) cartwheels and splits in front of me. I got freaked out and wouldn't look and just waited.) by the way I got 3 cold bottles of water for 29 cents each :P (one for me, my friend and the doooooggie) and because the doggie is truly a big ball of fur, I told my friend to bring him into the waiting area of Stop and Shop to blow some AC for him. When I came back, my friend told me that Stop and Shop is hiring ..and I walked back to Stop and Shop with my mom (her exercise technique) and they said to apply online, so I just checked their site and ... I had to write a resume. A resume. What work did a 14 year old do?! (I hope they hire me even though I'm underaged :[) so I got my mom to help me (WHO BY THE WAY... TOLD MY BROTHER ABOUT THE SPOT AND MIGHT MAKE ME LOSE THE JOB TO HIMMMMM) and I have it written out and I just thought of something spectacular to add in my resume but I forgot what it was while typing this up and by the way, I also found out we have to go through a drug test and a "background investigation" so what's a background investigation?! A WAY TO PRYYYYYY INTO OUR LIVES?! way to give us privacy -_____- someone tell me what else to add into my resume? ;_; I'm typing it up right now~ So I can just PM it to me and you guys can give me suggestions? :D (since you're mainly older than me and probably have experience doing this >_<) |

hey u...good luck with ur job search, jess... not sure wut the age limit is in jersey, but most places won't hire you if you're under 16...check tho...AND you can only work a certain amount of hours per week cuz of child labor laws...pretty sure about that one... at 14, you most likely shouldnt be applying someplace where you need a resume...maybe if you give me the link, i can check it out for ya, some sites let you type out a resume online by filling in blanks... a drug test is when you have to most likely give a urine sample, and then it gets tested for drugs and stuff...and background is just that, a criminal background check... some places like fast food places will hire 14 year olds... wuts ur resume look like? |

Might want to try finding something that isn't company oriented. Or try places that don't care much about age as long as you can work. At 14, you are limited to what you can apply and actually get hired for. |

How can you lie for a job? They're going to need your Social Security number. unless you're working under the table, and work illegally without documents (i've done it before). But the down side to that, is that your employer could hella take advantage of you because you can't sue. I didn't need my resume, I don't think you'd need yours, as working minors. |

Well, good luck getting a job, then. Ask your parents, they should know. |

At 14, they might limit your hours per day or hours per week. Check with the career centers and state laws. As for SSN, your parents should definitely have that. I remember I worked for the county fair when I was 16 for minimum wage. I wouldn't worry about your background investigation. Unless you're applying to a government position, they just want to make sure you're who you say you are and that you're not a convicted felon or troublemaker. Or if you don't want to deal with age documentation, there's always babysitting, housesitting, or dogsitting for family and neighbors. Babysitting I've seen gals start at 12 years. |

If you're under 16, you're limited to 4 hours a day during the schoolyear, and 8 during vacation. You may work 48 hours a week, but no more than 8 hours a day. AND you need a work permit. To get one, get hired, go to your school or district office, fill out the form, have your parents sign it, then your employer, then return it to the school/district office and get it validated. at least that's how it is in California, Gov. Schwartzeneggar loves the kids. |

the thing is the reason why I want a job is because I have TOO MUCH time in the summer uuuuuuuugh and it leads to being lazy and doing nothing all day.. besides buying things online and running out of money --' and I do sell things online it's not fun though. Too much worrying about lost packages and whatnot anyways. I finished typing up my resume and I'm waiting for my brother to print it out which he's being lazy about |
