At around 12:05AM, my best friend's guinea pig Jack died. Jack had been ailing for months and my friend had been doing everything she could for him. She would tell me about how he is and his condition over time and I had an investment in Jack's well being. She did all she could. Took Jack to a vet. Found a better vet along the way. Bought different types of antibiotics. Bought proper foods and minerals. Checked on him constantly. Gave him love the only way she could. I've told her before, but I've never met a more caring person in the world. I remember her asking me to go online to look up symptoms and treatments when her internet was down, that's probably what first got me vested in his health. I even made a couple visits to see how he was doing. I was on the phone crying with her during Jack's last minutes. She had been given the option to put him down by the vets she saw, but she wanted to everything she can to keep him alive. She really cared for him. She did everything she could till the very end. Jack was lucky to be in the care of such a wonderful person. |

so sorry, arnell
:( i went thru a similar experience with my lil sis and her hamster, Sky. Sky was the first pet she ever really connected with, and she was with her during a time when my sis had several surgeries and had to wear a back brace. she absolutely cherished this hamster. and it was so cute too, i gotta admit. very gentle, and would cuddle up in your hands or chest, and fall asleep on ya. when Sky got sick, there really wasnt much we could do, and it hid in its lil box in its cage all the time. before she died, me and my sis were home alone, and we saw her come out, and stretched out, and just moved slowly, and then she died, right there in front of us, and my lil sis was crying so hard, this was her first experience with death, of someone she loved alot, and i say someone because to her, Sky was a special friend that she had an emotional bond with. when she came out, it was almost like sky wanted to say goodbye, and my sis was just hugging me, not knowing what to do, and we gave sky a lil funeral, sounds silly, but it really was the right thing to do, and it wasnt funny at all. we did the whole shoebox buried in the ground thing, at a local park. *sighs* |

Yeah I know how she felt, it really sucks. I remember my first cat that I really cared about was crushed by my garage door, I was walking out to go to school and saw half his body under the garage. he was frozen stiff and his face was a face of pain and he was crying for help the whole night till he died... worst part is I think I was the one that closed the door on him without knowing... I miss him. I stayed home that day and when I got back to school the next day my friends just laughed at my brother and I for staying home because of his death... I wish he was still alive..he was the best cat ever! |

Thanks for the responses, everyone. My friend is holding a small funeral for Jack once she gets the ashes back. She had to tell her little sister about it (grade school, I think 5th grade). Don't know if she fully understands what happened though, but she is sad also. When I was on the phone with her during Jack's last moments, she was letting me know of how he was. How he wasn't eating, his breathing, his heartbeat... And the last few minutes when he gave a squeak and seizured... It was really sad to know that he suffered so much in the end... I had a pet when I was younger, but I didn't get too attached to it. Snoopy, our dog (don't remember what kind, but she was brown) was a bigger dog to me when I was little so I think I was scared to play with her. It was more of my dad's dog anyways. I remember asking what happened when I didn't see her anymore in our backyard. Now...I don't remember if this was true or not, but it's what my dad told me. Apparently our cable man (or whoever checks out the gauges, not sure) came to check on stuff and had to go to the backyard to do so. Snoopy kept barking at him. So...he took a brick...and smashed her in the head. My dad showed me where he buried her and I don't know if any action was taken against the guy. I know my mom didn't care because she doesn't like animals. But yeah. That's what I was told about Snoopy. Again I wasn't too attached to her though, but the story of her death is bad. |
