Reliving and Rethinking

Naruhodo: So…now we need a bigger table.
Keiichi: Sorry! My family…they’re weird like that. Well, mainly my mom. She was the one that said she didn’t want to do anything so we made the plans with you guys and then like FIVE MINUTES later she calls and says she’s going to join us and I told her that I don’t know if there will be enough room for them here because the place is small and we’ll probably be split up instead of all sitting together.
Ippo: How many of them will there be?
Keiichi: A lot. It’s like my whole family. My mom and my cousins.
SooJin: It’s a lot of them.
JooHyun: But there are already six of us here and it does not look like there will be another table leaving soon.
Ken: That one is open.
Keiichi: Nah, that’s too small.
SooJin: We can fit three more on the table we have, honey.
Keiichi: Yeah, but that’s not enough. We need at least ten more.
Ippo: Ten?!
JooHyun: We should order now then instead of waiting for them or else it will take forever for us to eat, hehe.
Naruhodo: Let’s order then.

*Keiichi and SooJin finally sit down with their friends. Minutes later a waitress comes by and they order. More time passes and some of the food has arrived.

SooJin: You guys can have some pot stickers. We ordered another plate of them to share.
Naruhodo: I’ll take one.
JooHyun: So will I. Do you want one, Ippo?
Ippo: No thanks, babe.
JooHyun: Wow, this is good. Ippo, you should try one.
Ippo: I’ve got my food. I’m fine.
SooJin: Do you want one, Ken?
Ken: I already ate. I’m just here chilling with you guys.
SooJin: Okay.
Naruhodo: Did you take a pot sticker?
Ippo: No…
JooHyun: Yes, you did. I saw you.
Ippo: Fine. I ate one and it was good. Now on to my shrimp and fried rice.
Naruhodo: You’re going through that pretty fast also. I’ve barely gone through mine.
JooHyun: That is because you are eating everyone else’s food.
Keiichi: Busted.
Ken: You had a pot sticker also.
Naruhodo: And two dumplings. What’s your point? They’re good. I didn’t try to hide it.
Keiichi: Hey. Where are you?
Naruhodo: Huh?
SooJin: He’s on the phone.
Naruhodo: Oh.
Ippo: I think you dropped some of that chicken you were reaching for.
Naruhodo: I know what I did. I’m picking it up and still eating it.
Ken: You suck with chopsticks.
Naruhodo: Just be quiet and pay for my food. Thank you.
Ken: What the..?
Keiichi: There you are, Domon. Where is everyone else?
Domon: Yeah, on their way. Man, there are no seats here. Yeah, this is going to be messed up.
Keiichi: I know. I told her.
Domon: Yeah. Your mom is a little tipsy though. So, you know how it is.
Keiichi: I hate when she changes her mind like that. I tried to make plans with her you know and she says no, so I go make plans with my friends and then she wants to join. What the h*ll, man.
Domon: Yeah. JiHye knows. Yeah, this place is really packed. I’m going to go wait outside for them.
Ken: That small table is paying now. So they’re about to leave.
Keiichi: When Domon comes back hopefully that table will still be clear.
Naruhodo: Sorry for eating your food.
Keiichi: Huh? Ah, it’s okay. I’m just waiting for…HEY! Don’t eat my food. I didn’t think you ate that much of it!
Naruhodo: Again, sorry.
SooJin: Hehe. You can eat some of my food, honey.
Keiichi: Okay. I have more coming anyways.
Naruhodo: Whoa, Ippo. You’re almost done?
Ippo: Yeah. I was hungry.
Naruhodo: So am I, but I’m not even halfway done.
JooHyun: That is because you are eating everyone else’s food.
Naruhodo: Fine!

- I walked in with my sister and her boyfriend and one of my brothers to find my cousin sitting and eating with his friends. Some of them look familiar. One just shoveled a bunch of food in his mouth, hehe.

Keiichi: Hey, cousin.
HeeJin: Hey. Where is..?

- Just then he turned around…Naruhodo!

HeeJin: Where…is my brother?
Keiichi: He went around waiting for you guys to show up. What’s up, Mina?
Mina: What’s up. Maybe we should go wait outside then. There’s no room here anyways.

- Just then he waved at me. Wave back, stupid.

HeeJin: Yeah…

- I slowly backed out the door with my sister and her boyfriend and my brother after giving a little wave.

Mina: Man, where is JiHye and her mom? I want to eat.
Jono: Late.
Mina: What do you want to do, Jin?
HeeJin: …
Mina: Jin!
HeeJin: Yeah! What?
Mina: You want to stand around here and wait?
HeeJin: No.
Mina: Let’s get some shaved ice next door.
HeeJin: Okay. Fine.

- Either way we’re coming back here. *sigh* Naruhodo…

*HeeJin goes with her sister and boyfriend and her brother next door. They meet Domon and soon after JiHye, her boyfriend Jeri, and her mom join outside the restaurant.

Domon: About time you all got here.
Mom: Hey, there’s no rush. We’re here aren’t we? What are you kids doing just standing around out here? I’m going in to see my baby boy.
JiHye: We’ll be out here, momma.

*JiHye’s mom goes in and walks over to her son.

Keiichi: Momma!
Mom: Hey there. I see you and your friends are filling up already.
Keiichi: Of course. Got hungry waiting for you.
Mom: Hey kids. I remember you. You’re the cute one I wanted to go out with my daughter.

*laughter*

Ken: That was me.
Mom: Yeah, you seem like a nice boy.
SooJin: But JiHye’s boyfriend is nice also.
Mom: Yeah, I like Jeri. He’s a good kid. And how is my son stealer doing?
SooJin: Hehe. Doing fine. How are you doing?
Mom: Had a little to drink…so I’m fine, haha. Who is this guy?
Ippo: You mean you don’t remember me?
Mom: Yeah. Who are you?
Keiichi: Momma, we all spent the night over that one time. Remember?
Mom: They did?
Ippo: Yeah. And this is my girlfriend.
Mom: Now I don’t remember you at all.
JooHyun: Aww…but I was there, too…
Mom: You were?
Ippo: Don’t you remember? You were having a good conversation with each other. You thought she was Vietnamese when she isn’t. You two are like really close.
Mom: Oh…well, if I forgot you then I was probably drunk, haha. Man, it’s crowded here. Where are we supposed to sit?
Keiichi: I think that table is getting ready to pay.
Ken: Looks like they’re just chilling though.

*A smaller table next to them gets up and leaves.

Mom: There we go. Just need to clean it up. Hey, can you clean this up so my family can sit here? Thank you.
Naruhodo: I like that. Take charge.
Mom: Hey, Naru. How you doing?
Naruhodo: …fine.
Mom: I don’t know if we can all get a seat here. This table is small. I don’t want to have to pay for two separate tables. Just rather it be all on one check.
Naruhodo: Does that mean momma is going to pay for my lunch, too?
Mom: …momma can’t speak English anymore.

*laughter*

Mom: Nice try, Naru.

- …

JiHye: I don’t really want to go in. It’s too small for all of us to fit in.
Jeri: I’m hungry though.
JiHye: Let’s go somewhere else.
Domon: Yeah, we could. But your mom seems to want to eat here.
JiHye: We’ll go somewhere that serves beer. She’ll go there instead.
Mina: Haha. That’s funny.
Domon: Yeah, I’m fine with that. I wanted to pay for everyone anyways. I don’t know all of Keiichi’s friends. Only him, his girlfriend, and Naruhodo.
JiHye: Naruhodo is there?
Domon: Yeah, you don’t see him? He’s next to Ken with his back towards us.
JiHye: Holy s#it! He cut his hair. I haven’t seen him with without long hair since…ever!
Mina: I didn’t know it was him until he turned around.
Domon: Yeah, I haven’t seen him for a long time.

- They kept talking. Then I noticed J walking to me.

JiHye: Sup, Jin?
HeeJin: Hey.
JiHye: Naruhodo.
HeeJin: What about him?
JiHye: You tell me.
HeeJin: Nothing to tell.
JiHye: Right…
HeeJin: …
JiHye: Maybe you should’ve asked your boyfriend to come.
HeeJin: What’s that supposed to mean?
JiHye: Nothing. Geez.
HeeJin: You knew what you meant by saying that.
JiHye: Yeah, and so do you. I know how you are when you think about him. I was there so I know how things were between you two.

- I wish she would just shut up and not bring this up. It’s hard enough already.

JiHye: Let me guess, you want to eat somewhere else.
HeeJin: There are no tables for us to sit in there anyways.
JiHye: You could pull up a chair next to him and share his food.
HeeJin: J! Stop.
JiHye: Alright. Fine! Do whatever.

- God…and now I have to use the bathroom…at least my brother is bringing his kid in since it’s cold out here. Guess I’ll follow behind.

Naruhodo: That yours?
Domon: Nah. I picked it up outside. Thought to bring it in.

*laughter*

- Hair straight, makeup is okay, outfit is good, skirt’s not too low and not too high…maybe a little higher, no. Shut up. He’s probably not noticing. What does he care anyways? Haven’t seen each other in years so what does he care what I look like. Not that it matters. *deep breath* Okay.

Keiichi: You sure, momma?
Mom: Yeah…we need that big table back there, but those kids won’t move. They’re not eating, but they won’t leave.

- I couldn’t help but look at him as I left the bathroom. Oops, Eye contact! Hey…he looked away first. Maybe he was just looking around. Whatever. I hope he just keeps eating.

Mom: So we’ll go somewhere else.
Keiichi: Alright. That’s cool, momma.
Mom: I’ll be outside. Bye, kids.
Friends: Bye.
Naruhodo: So *munch munch* I guess you’re going to join them later, *munch munch* Keiichi.
Keiichi: Probably after, yeah. Just to spend some time…
HeeJin (W): Don’t eat with your mouth full.

- Crap, he heard me. Don’t turn around, don’t turn around, don’t turn around. Hi. Don’t say anything.

Keiichi: I mean are we doing anything after? I can always just meet up with you later.
JooHyun: Ooh, we could play Mafia.
Ken: But where?

- He raised his eyebrow. He still does that? Turn back around, turn back around…finally. God…he looked so…hot! I need to leave.

HeeJin: We’re going, right?
Domon: Yeah, let’s go. Later, Keiichi.
Keiichi: See ya.

- …okay.

JiHye: So what’s up?
Mom: We’re going to go eat across the street. Everyone fine with that?

*agreement*

Mom: There’s just no room in there for all of us. Keiichi and his friends can finish eating there.
JiHye: Is Keiichi going to meet up with us later?
Domon: Yeah, he said he would or maybe all of us and his friends will do something later on after we’re done eating.
HeeJin: We are?
Mom: Maybe. We don’t know yet. But who cares about that now? Let’s go eat. I’m starving.

- As we started to walk to our cars, I had to look back one last time…who knows when I’ll ever see him again. What the heck? Was he looking out at me? I don’t think so. Where are my keys? He had to have been. Why else would he turn all the way around in his chair? Man, whatever. I’m not going to see him for maybe another few years. He’s gone. No more thinking of him. Stupid door, unlock. There. Now let’s go. No more thinking of Naruhodo. Besides, he’s probably not even thinking of me right now. And if he was, who cares? My boyfriend sure wouldn’t care. But there’s nothing for my boyfriend to worry about. Not like he’s ever going to meet Naruhodo any time soon. He doesn’t even know who he is. I know I haven’t mentioned Naruhodo to him before. If I did then he wouldn’t like knowing I just saw him. Not like I’m going to tell him. No reason to tell him that I saw Naruhodo. Besides…we’re here at the restaurant already? Ha. That was quick. Now I can finally eat. Eating and hanging out with my family will make me forget that I saw Naruhodo today. That’s the last thing I need to be thinking about…Naruhodo. Hmph. I don’t think he even said anything to me while we were there. Jerk. Could’ve said “hey” at least. Too busy eating his food. Too busy having fun with his friends to take the time to say “hey” to me. Hmph! Can’t believe him.

JiHye: Hey, order up, Jin.
HeeJin: I know! I’ll have number 101.

- How can he not say anything to me? Wait…did he? Let’s see…he turned around and then he waved. I told him not to eat with his mouth full…he didn’t say anything to me! Oh my god! He was just sitting there eating and ignoring me most of the time. Grr…Naruhodo…I can’t believe you. How can you not say “hey” to me at least? At least I told you not to eat with your mouth full. Not the best thing to say to someone after so many years, but it was something. At least I said SOMETHING. You could’ve said SOMETHING. At least you waved. If you didn’t do that then I would seriously have hated you. So you’re not a complete jerk. Although…you did look back at me after I left. So I guess you were thinking about me a little bit…yeah. I guess that’s good enough. Showed that the part of you I remember is still there. Finally, food is here. So hungry. I wonder if you’ve changed any like I have. I’m sure you’ve changed somewhat, but probably not like me. I’m not that same little innocent girl you once knew…but I’ve told you that already. A lot happens in five years. Five years…has it been that long? Gosh, everyone is being so loud. Damn loud family, hehe. Time flies. Five years…things are different. My life is almost totally different from that time. Are you different? Last time I saw you a couple years ago you seemed the same for the most part. Only saw you for that little bit, but you were still that nice guy that I remember. Doing a favor for me even though you really didn’t have to. You were always reliable and there for me…even when you didn’t have to be. I think you’re still like that. I bet you are. Hmm? Who is texting me?

*”You look pretty.”*

- You are thinking of me, Naruhodo…*sigh* Maybe…maybe I shouldn’t answer you back…I’m sorry. I…can’t. JiHye is right about how I am when it deals with you. So…yeah.

Mom: You leaving?
Keiichi: Yeah. Gotta go be with my girl and my friends now.
JiHye: Family time is over, ha.
Keiichi: Not like I never see you guys.
Mom: Yeah…you’re right. Go be with your friends.
Keiichi: Bye, momma.
Mom: Bye, Keiichi. Say “hi” to your friends for me.
JiHye: I guess we’ll be going, too. Ready, Jeri?
Jeri: Sure. Let’s go.
Mom: What? Who else is leaving?

- Guess I am also.

Mom: You going to leave me here? Ah…
JiHye: We had plans anyways, momma.
Mom: I know, I know. Come here and give your mom some love first before you leave.

- I quickly went outside as people were saying their byes. Not that I didn’t want to, but…

HeeJin: Keiichi!
Keiichi: HeeJin. What’s up?

*Elsewhere…

JooHyun: Is anyone else coming?
Ken: I called up Mochi. He said he’s coming and possibly Tetsuo.
JooHyun: What did Keiichi say when you called him?
Naruhodo: Said he’d be here soon. That was more than twenty-minutes ago though.
Ippo: At least we have your dog to keep us occupied, SooJin.
SooJin: Yeah. You’re a fun dog, Abo-Chi.

*bark*

SooJin: Good girl.
JooHyun: Does it have any toys to play with?
SooJin: Oh, you should see her with her rope string. Let me get it.
Naruhodo: The thing is hyper enough. Wonder what the rope will do.

*bark*

SooJin: Get it, Abo-Chi!
Ippo: Whoa. Look at it go. It’s tearing that thing up.
JooHyun: So cute.
Naruhodo: It looks like it’s flinging it around like nunchuks, ha.

*laughter*

Naruhodo: I think we’ve determined your dog is very playful.
Ippo: And hyper.
Naruhodo: Does it ever get tired?
SooJin: She does, but I think she’s just excited that there are new people here. Watch this.

*SooJin grabs one end of the rope. Her dog starts to growl. The 2 continue pulling the rope back and forth.

Ken: Daaaaang. That thing won’t let go.
SooJin: Check this out.

*SooJin gets up and raises the rope with Abo-Chi straight into the air. Abo-Chi is off the ground for a few seconds before SooJin puts her back down. She lets go of the rope and Abo-Chi continues playing with it.

SooJin: That should be my phone ringing. Where is it?

*Naruhodo picks it up and hands it to her. He then goes for the rope string and tugs it around with Abo-Chi.

Naruhodo: This is fun.

*growl*

Naruhodo: She does shed a lot though. You can see it all over my black pants.
Ippo: Same here. It’ll come off though.
Naruhodo: Yeah. Abo-Chi, let go.

*growl*

Naruhodo: Okay.

*He starts to drag and tug Abo-Chi around eventually handing the rope over to Ippo who continues playing with it. SooJin returns.

SooJin: Keiichi will be here soon. Let me have Abo-Chi and take her out to pee.
Ippo: Here you go.
SooJin: Be right back.
Naruhodo: Good thing she’s doing that. One time Abo-Chi peed on me.
Ken: Haha!
JooHyun: I thought her dog is house trained.
Naruhodo: She is. This was maybe a year or so ago. No big deal. SooJin just threw my pants in the wash and it was fine.
SooJin: Done.
Naruhodo: Want your rope, Abo-Chi?

*growl*

JooHyun: Wow! Right back to it.
Naruhodo: This is fun. Your dog is smart. I tried fooling it and she didn’t go for it.
SooJin: Yeah. She’s pretty smart. But she might still run into a wall here and there. Keiichi sometimes holds out a piece of food and walks back to our room and Abo-Chi follows. She just looks at the food and SMACK, hehe.
Ken: Haha.

*Naruhodo releases the rope and Abo-Chi swings it around. Soon she lets go and runs to the front door. She begins to bark. SooJin gets up.

SooJin: Must be Keiichi.
JooHyun: Does Abo-Chi know everytime someone is at the door?
Ken: Could be. We’ll find out when Mochi or Tetsuo get here.
Keiichi: Hey, guys! Not playing anything, yet?
Ken: Waiting for you at least. Mochi and Tetsuo are coming by also.
Keiichi: Cool. That makes nine total players later.
JooHyun: Who is the ninth?

- I can’t believe I came here. What am I thinking? I waved to everyone as Keiichi introduced me. I remember some of them.

Keiichi: And you know Naruhodo.

- I waved at him. He waved back. SooJin’s dog came by and started pulling at a string that Naruhodo was holding. I sat down and watched as they played together. It was really cute. He even got on his hands and knees and started growling back at the dog. They were going back and forth, hehe. Never saw Naruhodo like that.

Keiichi: So we starting a game?
SooJin: Could we do it with this many people?
Naruhodo: How many of us are there? Seven, right?
Ippo: Eight if you count Abo-Chi.
Naruhodo: I don’t think Abo-Chi can read the cards, can you? No, you can’t. Can you answer me back? No, you can’t. You’d make for a good killer in the game though. I can sic you on the innocent civilians, yes I can.

*bark*

Ken: Are we going to have one cop and one killer?
Naruhodo: We could do that. We can do that without the cop if you want.
Ken: Nah, we should keep the cop. There are only seven real players. One narrator.
Naruhodo: I’ll be narrator then.

*Ken starts pulling out some cards from the deck. The others start setting up the table except for Naruhodo who is playing with Abo-Chi and HeeJin who is watching everyone move around. Once things are set up, everyone moves in. Naruhodo lets Abo-Chi go. Ken hands him the cards he pulled.

Naruhodo: Okay.

- Why is he looking at me?

Naruhodo: Do you know how to play?
HeeJin: Oh. No, I don’t.
Naruhodo: Okay. Watch then. I’ll explain what’s going on and you’ll get how to play after one round. Okay?
HeeJin: Okay.

- I watched on as they played a game. Naruhodo was explaining everything that was going on and what each person was doing. He made sure I knew what was going on and asked if I had any questions. Had a few, but…I was just kind of impressed by how he was taking charge. Never seen him like that either. He always made sure that the game progressed and that they didn’t just sit there and argue the whole time when being accused and he still kept it fun. He even would play with Abo-Chi at times. He made sure everyone was having fun, hehe. Made sure everyone was happy…just like I remember.

Naruhodo: You think you can get into the game?
HeeJin: Yeah. Sure.
Naruhodo: Alright. Add another civilian, Ken.
Ken: Okay.
Naruhodo: Now. Everyone get a card. Everyone know who they are? Good. Now go to sleep. Let me welcome everyone to our lovely town. Unfortunately, a call from our sister city has informed us of an escaped killer and that it is possible that the killer is in our town now. Killer, wake up.

- The game is actually really fun. We kept arguing and accusing each other to win, hehe. I didn’t like being killed though. Being the killer is fun! Just picking off these suckas, hehe. Naruhodo keeps the story interesting with his narrating. The games last a long time with all our arguing. At least half an hour each game, dang. A couple games later more of their friends came, Mochi and Tetsuo. Naruhodo added an extra killer to the game. He actually switched with Ippo and played this time across from me.

Ippo: Welcome, everyone. Our little metropolis town has dwindled in numbers due to the massive killing spree done by, what the police believe, two killers. It is up to you to find them or be next to leave our town. Everyone, go to sleep. Killers, wake up.

- This is going to be fun teaming up to kill people, hehe. Who is my partner? Naruhodo! He winked at me and went back to sleep.

Ippo: Killers, sleep. Cop, wake up.

- We’re killers…hmm. I never saw him play yet. I wonder how good he is.

Ippo: Cop can go to sleep and everyone wake up. Discuss.

- Wow! Naruhodo is really good at this. He knows how to argue and raise suspicion and how to cover his tracks and mine. He even voted and nominated me as the killer a few times to throw people off. At first I thought he was crazy, but he always gave me a reassuring look to let me know that he knew what he was doing. I liked how we were arguing a couple times, hehe. He let me pick most of the people to kill, but when he needed to kill someone he made sure it was done. When it came to the final five; myself and Naruhodo, JooHyun, Keiichi, and Tetsuo, it was intense. Thing is…I was confident that we were going to win. Naruhodo had set everything up too well. He made it clear to others that Tetsuo was one of the killers. He also made sure that they suspected him instead of me so that if he was killed off then at least I could still win it for us. But we were going to win anyways. I was going to vote for Tetsuo and so was he. And I’m sure he has JooHyun convinced the killer is Tetsuo. I don’t think I’ve ever seen his competitive or playing side that much before.

Naruhodo: I’ve been right so far, right?
JooHyun: Right.
Naruhodo: And Tetsuo is more quiet than usual and really has a weak defense.
Tetsuo: Because I’m not the killer! I don’t know what else to say!
Keiichi: The cop did us no help either.
Ken: Shut up.
Naruhodo: Dead cops can’t talk.
JooHyun: But it could be you that is the killer, Naurhodo.
Naruhodo: Well, I’ve defended myself pretty well, haven’t I? I’ll say this though, you can kill me if you want, but we will win the game if you kill Tetsuo. I guarantee that.
JooHyun: How?
Naruhodo: If we kill Tetsuo, who is the killer…
Tetsuo: I’m not the killer!
Naruhodo: …we kill him off, we have one last chance to get his partner.
JooHyun: Then who is his partner?
Naruhodo: Keiichi.
Keiichi: What the h*ll?!
Naruhodo: Well, I wouldn’t ask JooHyun to kill her own partner if I thought she was the killer.
Keiichi: h*ll no! Kill Naruhodo! He’s the killer. Don’t you see what he’s doing?
Tetsuo: Yeah! He’s trying to pin this on us. I’m voting for him.
Keiichi: That’s right!
Ippo: So we’re voting now?
Naruhodo: I’m telling you, JooHyun, vote for Tetsuo and we’ll win the game. The game will end soon.
Keiichi: Don’t listen to him! He is lying! HeeJin, who are you voting for?
HeeJin: Voting for Tetsuo.
Tetsuo: No!
HeeJin: I believe Naruhodo. I think we can win if we vote for Tetsuo.
Keiichi: Holy crap, she’s the other killer! They’re working together! Don’t you see that JooHyun?
Tetsuo: Vote for Naruhodo! Help us kill him!
Naruhodo: Sounds like a killer to me.
JooHyun: Well, you did jump to Tetsuo’s defense, Keiichi. Maybe you are his partner.
Keiichi: That’s because Naruhodo fingered me as his accomplice. I’m not his partner. I’m not a killer at all!
SooJin: This is so funny, hehe.
Ippo: So…voting?
Tetsuo: Let’s vote, dammit.
Ippo: Okay. Remember, if you don’t get rid of one of the killers now, the killers will win.
HeeJin: How?
Ippo: If one of the killers doesn’t die now, they will kill off one more civilian at night leaving the two killers and the last civilian. But if you get one of them now there will be one more chance to get the last one. So, who thinks that Naruhodo is the killer?

*Tetsuo and Keiichi raise their hands.

Keiichi: C’mon, JooHyun!
JooHyun: …
Ippo: Ending the votes in ten seconds. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6…
Tetsuo: No…vote for him!
Ippo: …3, 2, 1. Okay. Two votes for Naruhodo. And who thinks that Tetsuo is the killer?

*Naruhodo raises his hand. The 2 girls then raise their hands up.

Ippo: Three to two. Tetsuo, show the town who you really are.
Tetsuo: Game over.

*He flips his card over to reveal a 9 of diamonds. He gets up and leaves.

JooHyun: Oh no…game over?
Ippo: Game over.

- He looked my way and grinned. I couldn’t fight my smile.

Naruhodo: Damn right, game over!
HeeJin: h*ll yeah!

- We both got up with our killer cards in hand and taunted the group. And then…we hugged.

JooHyun: You said we would win if we got rid of Tetsuo.
Naruhodo: That’s right. But I didn’t mean you and me we. I meant her and I we, haha.

- …I forgot how this felt…

JooHyun: Aww…Ippo, he tricked me…
Ippo: It’s okay, baby. We’ll kill him next time.
JooHyun: Okay…
Ippo: I liked how you picked the cop off at the beginning.
Ken: There’s no way you could’ve known.
Naruhodo: I didn’t. That was just a damn good guess. HeeJin did all the killing. Right?
HeeJin: Mm…

- …let go, stupid.

Naruhodo: Only one I really needed to kill off was SooJin since she was catching.
SooJin: How did you know?
Naruhodo: I could tell.
Mochi: I’m never the killer.
Ippo: You will be sometime.
Mochi: I’ve only been the killer once ever since playing this game. That’s once in like two weeks.

- I could hear everyone talk on and on. I couldn’t say anything…I didn’t want to.

Ippo: Another game?
Keiichi: Let’s do it!
Mochi: Yes, another game so I can NOT be the killer again.
Naruhodo: Okay. Everyone sit down and we’ll get another one going.
JooHyun: Do you want to play, Ippo?
SooJin: Yeah, I can be the narrator this time if you want.
Ippo: Nah, next game maybe.

- He’s looking at me. I can feel his stare.

Naruhodo: I’ll sit next to you I guess.
HeeJin: Okay.

- Let go! Finally! Geez…what’s wrong with me? I glanced at him while they were setting things up for the next game. *sigh* I’m in trouble and I’m not helping it any. Oops, let me get my card. Ooh, killer again, hehe.

Ippo: Everyone see who they are? Okay. Everybody go to sleep. Killers, wake up.

- Hmm…ooh. SooJin is my partner. Awesome!

Ippo: Okay. Killers, sleep and the cop can wake up. Cop go to sleep and now everyone wake up.
Mochi: I’m not the killer, just so you know.

*laughter*

Mochi: Seriously. Never am.
Ken: I heard some noise over there.
Tetsuo: Where?
Ken: Around where you and SooJin are.
Tetsuo: Me again? Man, I’m not the killer!
JooHyun: When did you hear the noise? For killers or for the cop?
Ken: Killers.
Naruhodo: And we have suspects. I’ll nominate one if you nominate the other.
Ken: Okay. I nominate Tetsuo.
Naruhodo: And I nominate SooJin.
Tetsuo: What the h*ll just happened?
SooJin: I know. That was so messed up.
Tetsuo: They’re probably the killers and are double teaming us right now.
JooHyun: You might be right. I think so also.
Tetsuo: I nominate Naruhodo.
Naruhodo: Why me? Ken was the one that brought up the noise issue.
Tetsuo: Vengeance from the last game.
Naruhodo: …not cool, dude.
Tetsuo: That’s what you get for killing me.
Ippo: That was quick on the nominating.
Keiichi: Who got nominated?
Ippo: Naruhodo, Tetsuo, and SooJin. Let’s vote.
Naruhodo: Wait! Can’t I defend myself?
Tetsuo: Why, killer?
Naruhodo: Shut up. I’m going to say that it isn’t me and that Tetsuo is doing this out of vengeance just like he said. And he has a great opportunity now that he is the killer. Vote for one of the other two because if you kill me, that’s a wasted chance and they’ll kill someone else when we all sleep. The killer will probably kill me when we sleep if I don’t get voted for it now anyways.
Tetsuo: Whatever. Kill him now. He usually figures it out anyways.
JooHyun: What about for SooJin?
SooJin: What about me?
JooHyun: She might have made the noise.
SooJin: I didn’t. Don’t vote for me, hehe.
Ippo: Well played defense.
SooJin: Thank you.
Ippo: Anyone else with anything to say?

*No reply.

Ippo: Time to vote. Who here thinks it is SooJin?

*Ken and Naruhodo raise their hands.

Ippo: Two votes. Who here thinks it is Tetsuo?

*Ken and Naruhodo keep their hands up. Keiichi raises his hand also.

Ippo: Three votes for Tetsuo. And who here thinks that Naruhodo is the killer?

*Everyone’s hands except Ken and Naruhodo’s go up.

Ippo: Six. The people have spoken, Naruhodo.
Naruhodo: May I ask why me?
SooJin: You put up the most fight.
JooHyun: I would say that also.
Mochi: You did try really hard this time.
Naruhodo: That’s because…

*He flips his card over.

Naruhodo: I’m innocent. Nice work.
SooJin: Aww…sorry.
Naruhodo: I want to see who really are the killers. And I hope they will avenge me. Avenge me!
HeeJin: It’s okay.

- I patted his thigh to calm him down. I know he’s just getting into the game, but…I just needed an excuse to touch him…and there I go leaving my hand on his thigh.

Ippo: We all cry as Naruhodo is no longer with us, but sleep is just as easy as ever.

*laughter*

Ippo: Sleep. Now it’s time for the killers to wake up.
Naruhodo: Who is it?

*He looks across from him to see SooJin smiling at him. He gives a friendly sneer back.

- I saw him look around for the second killer. *sigh* I squeezed his hand in mine. As he turned and looked at me staring right at him…I remembered more of what I used to like about him. This feeling of comfort that he gave me…I loved it…

Ippo: Killers, make a selection please.

- I turned to SooJin and we both decided on our next victim. I turned back to Naruhodo who was now holding my hand back.

Ippo: Alright. Killers may go to sleep and…the cop can wake up.

- As I was sleeping, I could feel his grip tightening. Oh my god…this…this can’t end well…but I don’t give a damn. If this is the only time this is going to happen…no, I shouldn’t let it happen at all. I have a boyfriend already. The past is the past…that never got a chance to be my future.

Ippo: Cop sleeps. Everyone can now wake up.
Naruhodo: Oh, let me get out of the circle so we can close it in.

- No…don’t let go. *gasp* Now he’s sitting behind me! I guess neither one of us can help it now. The game continued on. Naruhodo sat behind me and held me. All I could really do was sit here between his legs and enjoy it. I don’t think we even had this type of chance before…this is not a chance! I can’t do this! I want to do this! Aah, I don’t know what I want…maybe I should just concentrate on…

Ippo: Sorry, HeeJin.
HeeJin: Huh?
Ippo: The votes were against you so you will have to die now.
HeeJin: Oh…well, you all suck anyways.

*She flips her card over.

Tetsuo: Haha. My vengeance from the last game is complete.

- Get up, get up, get up! Okay…now what?

HeeJin: I’m thirsty.
SooJin: Help yourself to something in the kitchen.

- Good excuse.

HeeJin: You want something, Naruhodo?

- Damn…

Naruhodo: Sure.
HeeJin: What do you want?
Naruhodo: Anything is fine.
HeeJin: Come with me to see what they have.

- Dammit.

Naruhodo: Okay.

- Dammit! I walked to the kitchen with Naruhodo following closely behind. Everyone was still into the game. I opened up the fridge and we both looked in. I don’t know what I want.

Naruhodo: Whoa, milk.
HeeJin: Yeah…so?
Naruhodo: Nothing. Just that I haven’t had milk for a long time. Regular milk that is. Last time I had any milk it was chocolate. Regular milk I haven’t had in years.
HeeJin: You want some then?
Naruhodo: …sure. Why not? Where does she put the cups and glasses..?

- I took the milk out and set it on the counter as Naruhodo searched through different cupboards for cups. I held my hands around that gallon of milk tight. Had to keep my hands occupied or else…well…

SooJin: There are some cups next to the sink that were just washed if you want to use those.
Naruhodo: Thanks.

- Since I was closer I got 2 cups for us. I put them down on the counter and Naruhodo had the milk in his hands now. He started to pour them…and he started to pull the gallon further away from the cup as he poured it. Surprisingly nothing spilled.

HeeJin: Show off.
Naruhodo: Ha. Not on purpose. This is just how I pour drinks for myself.

- He pushed the one he filled towards me and did poured his glass next the same way.

Naruhodo: Anything else you want to critique me on?
HeeJin: Huh?
Naruhodo: You said something about how I pour drinks and earlier you said how I shouldn’t talk with my mouth full. Anything else?
HeeJin: Well…you shouldn’t talk with your mouth full. That’s rude.
Naruhodo: I covered my mouth with my hand.
HeeJin: Still.
Naruhodo: Okay, okay.

- He put the milk away. I took my milk and had a sip.

HeeJin: …long time, no talk.
Naruhodo: There it is. You always say that.
HeeJin: It’s true, that’s why.
Naruhodo: So…do you want to go talk somewhere?
HeeJin: Sure. Your place?
Naruhodo: My place?

- Huh?

HeeJin: Yeah. Can’t go to mine to talk.
Naruhodo: Why not?
HeeJin: …I’ll tell you later.
Naruhodo: Then…I guess we should tell the others we’re going to leave.
HeeJin: Okay.
Naruhodo: Okay.

- We drank our milk quietly…so quiet.

HeeJin: How about one more game?
Naruhodo: Ha. That’s cool.
HeeJin: You’re really good, by the way.
Naruhodo: Thanks.

- After putting the glasses away, we joined everyone and watched as they finished out the game. We told everyone that we were going to leave after the next one. I was a civilian this time. Naruhodo was the cop. I never got to be the cop before. I survived halfway through the game and Naruhodo died after I did. Once Ippo won the game we left. Almost right away he started…maybe not on purpose, but he was being such a gentleman. I don’t remember the last time someone opened a car door for me to let me in. It was cute. Things like that…always so nice. Even after a few years he treats me well. He’s such a good guy. On the ride to his place we talked about what we did for work. He did know that I was working at a karaoke bar. That one time we talked a few months ago was when I told him. It was weird that he came out of nowhere and emailed me first. No harm in replying to it. We did exchange phone numbers and that’s when he called me. If I wasn’t so sleepy I probably would’ve talked longer…but I know that I used that as an excuse not to talk to him for so long. If I did…well, I would think about things just like I am right now. And even though I’m thinking these things right now, that doesn’t mean I’m not paying attention to him. His job sounds interesting and he seems to be doing well with it. He has a lot to say about it since that has been his biggest thing going lately from what he says. After a while, I noticed the neighborhood. He still lives here? Guess he never moved out of his parents’ house. Oh well. Not that big a deal. Maybe knowing that others are here will help stop me from doing anything stupid…as if I’m not doing anything stupid by going to his place. Man! Nothing is going to happen! Nothing…nothing better happen…mm. We pulled in and got out. He opened the backdoor to his place and let me in first. Wow. A lot of things are familiar. I’ve only been here a few times, but things looked the same. Floors are different as well as a few decorations. He led me through the living room and to the stairs where he stopped.

Naruhodo: I’ll go first.
HeeJin: You were leading already.
Naruhodo: …good point. I’ll CONTINUE to go first.
HeeJin: Dork.

- And he went first. Mm…nice butt. *gasp* He remembered!

HeeJin: You remembered.
Naruhodo: Duh. Figured you might want to check me out on the way up.
HeeJin: Could’ve checked me out if I went first.
Naruhodo: Oh, I wanted to especially since you’re wearing that skirt…that JEAN skirt. LOVE those! But knowing you, you’d probably say something and catch me looking. Anyways…
HeeJin: Dork.

- I followed his cute butt to his room. My god, it looks almost the same…well, the walls. Other things like his computer and TV set up were different.

HeeJin: You still have all these posters up.
Naruhodo: Yeah. Some I took down and some are different from the last time you were here. It has been a couple years so I’m sure something has changed.

- I put my purse down on his bed and just looked around.

Naruhodo: Most of this room has been the same over the years, but I’ve kept it pretty much like this for a good year now. I have been trying to think of what to do with my room though. It’s so big that it just seems kind of empty.
HeeJin: Your room isn’t big and empty.
Naruhodo: Oh, this isn’t my room.
HeeJin: Yeah, it is. I remember coming to this room before.
Naruhodo: Okay, technically it is my room. And this is where I used to sleep, but now it’s more of my “office.” My bedroom is down the hall next to the stairs.
HeeJin: Isn’t that your parents’ room?
Naruhodo: It was and it is when they come to visit. But considering that they don’t live here anymore, as well as my brother, this is my room.
HeeJin: …
Naruhodo: I own this house now.
HeeJin: OH..! Wow. Since when?
Naruhodo: For about a year now. My brother has his own place somewhere in town and my parents are retired back in their homeland.
HeeJin: So…why bring me to your “office” then instead of the bedroom?
Naruhodo: Hey, we can go to the bedroom if you want. That’s not a problem.
HeeJin: Hehe.
Naruhodo: I just thought maybe some memories would come back if I brought you here.
HeeJin: I see.
Naruhodo: I’m going to get a drink. Want anything?
HeeJin: Something without alcohol.
Naruhodo: O…kay. That’s what I meant anyways. Water, coke?
HeeJin: Water is fine.
Naruhodo: Okay.

- Don’t watch him leave. Good. Bad…we’re alone. I REALLY HOPE that I can control myself. But it’s weird. Why am I acting like this anyways? Our time was five years ago. Oh, please. I know why I’m acting this way. I loved him. I’ve had plenty of boyfriends after him, but…none were like him…none of them. That’s why. Back then I wasn’t ready for him. I don’t know about now though. And I DO have a boyfriend already. Dammit…it’s stuff like this that makes me avoid you, Naruhodo.

*She crawls onto the bed. In the corner of the room is a shelf with many things on it.

- What’s this? Some girl band. Dang, he has a lot of stuff from them. He must really like them, hehe. What’s this here?

*She takes a small heart-shaped box into her hands and takes the small lid off of it.

- Oh my…god.

*From the tiny box she pulls out 2 silver pieces of a heart.

- These key chains…he still has them.

*She puts the box down and takes each piece into her hands. She holds them out and inspects each one.

- I wonder…

*She takes both halves and squeezes them together making a switch push in.

“I love you.”

- …

Naruhodo: I didn’t think they still worked.

- Man, he’s so quiet sneaking around.

*She turned herself towards Naruhodo’s direction. He sets their waters down on a counter.

Naruhodo: I remember trying these things a few months ago while I was cleaning just to see if they worked. It was more like a “I-I-I…I lo-I…I love…” Yeah.

- Don’t get on the bed with me…damn.

*He holds out his hand and HeeJin gives him the heart pieces. He pushes them together.

“I love you.”

Naruhodo: I guess you fixed them.
HeeJin: Hehe. Maybe…maybe it was only meant to work for us when we’re together.
Naruhodo: Maybe. We could never hear them when we weren’t together.
HeeJin: That’s actually…pretty sweet. It was a really sweet gift, Naruhodo.

- He handed them back to me as he got our waters. He gave me mine and just started to down his. That’ll calm the nerves. Is he nervous? I know I am. I sipped my water before he asked.

Naruhodo: Are you with anyone right now?
HeeJin: …

- Yes, I am.

HeeJin: …yes, I am.
Naruhodo: Ah. For how long?
HeeJin: …

- A year.

HeeJin: …a year.
Naruhodo: Must be nice. Lucky guy. Actually I already knew you were with someone. I remember you mentioned that he wouldn’t let you come to my last birthday when I invited you.
HeeJin: That’s right.
Naruhodo: Won’t he get mad knowing you’re here now then?
HeeJin: …

- Of course he will!

HeeJin: …I don’t know.

- Crap…

Naruhodo: If you need to go home anytime soon I can take you back.
HeeJin: I’ll let you know.

- Dammit, dammit, dammit!

*She starts looking through her purse till she pulls out her cellphone.

HeeJin: I’ll be right back.
Naruhodo: Okay.

- I hate this. If things weren’t bad with him right now then maybe I wouldn’t be thinking like this. I just have to…c’mon. Pick up your damn phone!

*Minutes later, HeeJin returns to the room. Naruhodo is checking something on his computer as HeeJin puts her cellphone away.

HeeJin: …
Naruhodo: Mm…
HeeJin: What are you looking at?
Naruhodo: Just checking my normal sites. Right now just emails.
HeeJin: Anything interesting?
Naruhodo: …nope. Never really get anything interesting in my email. I don’t use it to communicate to anyone really unless that’s the only way I am able to.
HeeJin: Like me?
Naruhodo: Like you. That is a good example, ha.

- He spun his chair to me. Even that was done with some style.

Naruhodo: You need to check anything online? I’m pretty much done.
HeeJin: No, I don’t need to.
Naruhodo: Okay. Let me just order this thing online really quick. You think of something to do or talk about.
HeeJin: Okay.

- Why do I have to think of something? It was my idea to come here in the first place. *sigh* I don’t know what to talk about…that I shouldn’t talk about. I don’t know what to do…other than what I shouldn’t probably do…well. We…will…see what happens…

Naruhodo: So…what’s up?
HeeJin: …what did you order?
Naruhodo: Just some clothes.
HeeJin: Clothes?
Naruhodo: Yeah. Found this website online that sells clothes from overseas. I haven’t bought that much from there…so far.
HeeJin: Can I see what you ordered?
Naruhodo: Yeah. Let me bring up the window again.

*She gets up and stands behind him as he brings the website on screen.

HeeJin: That looks pretty cute.
Naruhodo: I actually ordered that whole outfit. The jacket alone costs over one-hundred dollars.
HeeJin: Dang.
Naruhodo: You can pick each part of the outfit individually, but I wanted to see how this one would turn out.
HeeJin: It might look weird if you only bought the shirt or just the pants.
Naruhodo: If this turns out well then I’ll probably start buying more outfit sets from here instead of individual pieces.
HeeJin: That can get expensive.
Naruhodo: It’s not like I’ll be buying stuff from here all the time. Maybe once every…two months. That should be enough. I used to never buy clothes ever. At least this way I’ll be slowly updating my wardrobe.
HeeJin: You seem to have a nice wardrobe already.
Naruhodo: You mean what I’m wearing right now?
HeeJin: Yeah.

- He turned back around to me.

Naruhodo: These black jeans have to be a couple years old by now. This dress shirt is even older.
HeeJin: Oh, but you seem to keep yourself looking good. Like your hair. When did you cut it?
Naruhodo: A couple days before Christmas. I had not gone for a haircut in maybe half a year before then.
HeeJin: You haven’t had it this short for a while now, have you?
Naruhodo: Oh no. Before the cut it was down to close to my shoulders I think. I still kept it long, but maybe styled it differently till now. This is the shortest it has been since…middle school.
HeeJin: Damn, that’s a long time ago.
Naruhodo: I know. I don’t think anyone I know now except for family has seen me with this short a hair length before. Everyone has liked it so far. My mom loves it.
HeeJin: Hehe.
Naruhodo: I like it. It’s different. What about you? Do you like it?
HeeJin: Oh…

- *sigh* I ran my hands through his hair.

HeeJin: You can see your face now.
Naruhodo: A lot of people say that.
HeeJin: It’s true. You used to have your hair and your sunglasses cover your face all the time. You know that I didn’t like that.
Naruhodo: I know. You would ask me to take off my sunglasses sometimes so you can see my eyes. I remember.
HeeJin: You sure do remember a lot.
Naruhodo: There are some nice memories I like to remember.

- Nice memories…

HeeJin: …

- I looked deep into his eyes. He stared right back at me as I kept running my hands through his hair. *sigh* I…I want to kiss you…and then I felt his hands on my hip as he pulled me closer. I then took his head and leaned it against my chest. My heart was racing and I’m sure he can feel that right now. Is your heart beating the same?

HeeJin: Is your heart beating the same?
Naruhodo: A little. What do you think?

- He lifted my legs off the floor and set me on his lap. He cradled me as I rest my head against his chest. His heart was beating…normally? Is he not nervous? I looked up to see him looking down at me. He ran his hand through my hair slowly. How can he be so calm? His slightly soft fingers went through my hair and then came to my face. He caressed the side of my face with his hand…and I’m letting him…I’m letting you.

Naruhodo: …hold on tight.

- Huh? I held on as he opened the door with his foot. Then he turned around and pushed us off with his feet from the bed and we rolled on his chair into the hallway. He pushed off one side of the wall and spun us around. Then he pushed off from one side of the wall to the other till we reached the small step in the hallway. I guess he has done that plenty of times…quick and fun. He then held on to me tighter and got up out of the chair. He carried me through the door into what used to be his parents’ room. He stood there as I looked around. It was big and empty like he had said. I was lowered onto the bed. His eyes were checking me out and mine were checking him out.

Naruhodo: Now what?
HeeJin: What?
Naruhodo: What do you want me to do?
HeeJin: I don’t know.
Naruhodo: Okay. Well, I’m going to join you on the bed and turn the TV on. At least something will be going on.

- …the bed shook a little as he lay down behind me. He turned on the TV and tossed the remote in front of me saying that I could change the channel if I wanted to. I took the remote and lay down…then he moved around again. I felt a couple of blankets go over my legs as he told me that those were there if I got cold. I wasn’t really paying attention to what was on TV. I couldn’t. All I can do is lie here and think whether I want something to happen or not…and think about what he was thinking with me here. Hmm…

*She turns off the TV and gets up to put the remote on a nearby dresser. She turns herself around and looks at Naruhodo looking back at her. She crawls back on to the bed and lies against Naruhodo, her back to his chest. HeeJin reaches down for the blanket and pulls it up. Naruhodo helps pull it over them.

HeeJin: Are you seeing anyone right now?
Naruhodo: I am not seeing anyone right now.
HeeJin: Really? Why not?
Naruhodo: I’m…ugly?

*She jabs him with his elbow.

Naruhodo: I don’t know. I’m looking. I’ve tried. Last girl I’ve tried for was this cute waitress, but she already has a boyfriend. Haven’t seen her for a while.
HeeJin: Do you not go to her restaurant anymore?
Naruhodo: Not as frequent. I’ve been there a few times since finding out, but she’s either not working or is not my waitress.
HeeJin: No one else?
Naruhodo: I did have a relationship with someone for over a year, but we were never officially boyfriend and girlfriend.
HeeJin: Geez. C’mon, Naruhodo. There had to have been someone. I know you’ve had girlfriends. Tell me about your last girlfriend at least.
Naruhodo: Mm…okay.

- This should be interesting. I really wouldn’t want to know about him and another girl, but I just want to know how he has treated them.

Naruhodo: My last girlfriend…she was nice, cute…well, more pretty than cute to me anyways. She loved me a lot and would tell me all the time. Loved her, too. Hmm…there was one time I picked her up from school. No, I meant before school. She was exempt from exams so we made plans to hang out for a couple hours then I would bring her back to school so she could ride the bus home and not get in trouble. I picked her up and brought her home. I remember we played video games for a little bit and watched a few music videos. The timing I had planned actually went off well. Even the music we listened to in the car was timed perfectly so that she would hear this song at this time. I just planned it out to maximize our time together. Other than playing games and watching videos…I think, and she might hate me for not remembering completely, but I think we just had some close time with each other. Nothing too intimate, just along the lines of hugging and cuddling. At that time in her life she said she had not even kissed anyone yet. Ha, actually while I was holding her from behind she caught me trying to look down her shirt.

- What the..?

Naruhodo: She told me that later…embarrassing. Oh, whenever we were talking on the phone and she stretched she would say, “That was me stretching. Don’t think I was doing something else.” That was cute. Let’s see…I remember what I did for her on Valentine’s Day. I think this might have been after we broke up…not too sure. But for Valentine’s Day I actually went in her house. Yeah, was never welcomed to just come in for a few reasons, but my friend is actually her cousin so I went over with him because I told him what I wanted to do. He was there “visiting” family and I was just “tagging along.” I had gotten the idea of what to do from this song I was listening to. Basically in the song, the guy had left a letter for his girl. He just put it in the middle of her bed and it had her name on it. Inside the letter all it said was, “I love you.” I just thought that was really sweet so I wanted to do that. So while he was talking with his family, I “went to the bathroom” so I could put the letter on her bed. I was worried someone else would pick it up so I took this stuffed animal I got her. It was a monkey named…
HeeJin: Jo-Jo.
Naruhodo: I put Jo-Jo on top of the letter. Later that day she called me and thanked me for it. I didn’t even write my name on it. She went on saying how she thought her sister put Jo-Jo on the bed to be silly. I think she was amazed that I was actually in her house in the first place. So I told her how I did it. Whether we were going out or not I’m sure she thought it was a sweet gesture.
HeeJin: I’m sure she did.

- I scooted closer to him. I felt him move as he draped one of his arms over me. I don’t care anymore. If anything happens…then it was meant to.

HeeJin: I can’t believe you haven’t had another girlfriend since me.
Naruhodo: I’ve tried. Wasn’t successful. There is always something though. Like they aren’t looking for someone to be a boyfriend, they just want a friend, they already have a boyfriend…like you. You already have a boyfriend.
HeeJin: So you think that if I didn’t that you’d be able to have me as your girlfriend now?
Naruhodo: I didn’t say that. Just that there is no chance of that.
HeeJin: That’s not true.
Naruhodo: It is to me somewhat. There have been a few girls that I almost got together with, but never did because they had boyfriends.
HeeJin: Well, why didn’t you?
Naruhodo: I don’t know…I guess I never wanted to be “the other guy.” You hear about those guys that just go after anyone and steal girlfriends away…I never liked hearing about that and I didn’t want to be that. There were only a couple things I could think of that wouldn’t make me care about that. One would be if they were in a bad relationship. None of them were. The other reason would be if I were better than their current boyfriend.
HeeJin: And were you?
Naruhodo: If they were making her happy then no. Who am I to ruin a nice thing just so I could be selfishly happy?

*She turns to face him.

HeeJin: Are you serious? What’s wrong with trying to be happy?
Naruhodo: I don’t know.
HeeJin: I know you don’t like being selfish. I know that you did everything you could while we were together to keep me happy. But what about you? You can’t just go with “making someone else happy makes me happy.” You have to make yourself happy sometimes.
Naruhodo: I know.
HeeJin: Maybe you need to change your way of thinking.
Naruhodo: Hey, I’m not completely the same as you remember. I’ve changed.
HeeJin: You seem the same.
Naruhodo: It’s just hard that when I even try my hardest…that’s not enough for some…and then…

- He continued explaining himself. The whole time I tried applying anything he said towards our past relationship.

HeeJin: But…for us…there were other things that got in the way. I think if things were better we could’ve still been together…or at least lasted longer. I was young, my brother hated you, I could never get out to see and if I ever did I had to lie to do it…it was hard.
Naruhodo: …
HeeJin: All the things you did though…you made me so happy and you made me want to keep doing what we were doing.
Naruhodo: Mm…
HeeJin: You are still one of the few people I ever fell in love with. You will always be one of the…you will always be the first person I fell in love with and will always keep in my heart…and…and because of that reason…I avoid you.

- I lowered my head. This was so hard to tell him face to face. But maybe he deserves to hear it.

HeeJin: I’m sorry for ignoring the text messages you sent to me lately. I could’ve at least replied to the holiday ones. But that one time you asked to see if we could hang out…from then I had to tell myself to ignore you. As much as I wanted to see you I knew I shouldn’t. I did really want to go to your birthday party, but like I said my boyfriend wouldn’t let me. But yeah…I told myself to ignore you. I had to. As much as I tried to think that if I did go and see you that my thoughts and feelings for you would come back…kind of like now.
Naruhodo: You still have feelings for me?
HeeJin: I said you were one of the few people I ever loved. You, especially, will always have a place in my heart no matter happens.
Naruhodo: Wow…we’re pretty similar.

- I felt his finger lift my head up. As I stared in his eyes...I held my breath.

Naruhodo: Just like you said, you were one of the few people I loved. And you’ll always have a place in my heart also.

- Naruhodo…

Naruhodo: I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I thought nothing could happen between us again. And I’d be lying if I didn’t have those thoughts with you here or when asking to see you.
HeeJin: Would you have done anything if we met up before today?
Naruhodo: …I don’t know. It would depend. The whole having a boyfriend thing would probably make me not do it blatant and obvious. Might not even have brought anything up about us if there was no point to.
HeeJin: What if I talked about it?
Naruhodo: Then we’d talk about it. Does that mean that you would’ve brought things up if we met up?
HeeJin: …maybe.

- This is what I was scared of.

HeeJin: This is what I was scared of, Naruhodo. You, me…us. All these feelings and emotions are coming back…and to be honest…mine never died. That’s why I had to avoid you and just live my life.
Naruhodo: Was I really that big of an impact to you?
HeeJin: In my heart you were. Fighting against my heart is hard.
Naruhodo: I know. When we broke up I knew it was hard for you to end it…and it was hard for me to accept.
HeeJin: I told you that I couldn’t say it to your face. I’m sorry that I had to do it like that. I just knew that if I was with you that I couldn’t let you go.
Naruhodo: Mm-hmm…
HeeJin: …I wasn’t ready for you.
Naruhodo: Huh?
HeeJin: I wasn’t ready for you.
Naruhodo: What do you mean?
HeeJin: At that time of my life I wasn’t ready for you. I loved you, but I wasn’t ready. I was so young, I still had all these things in my life to deal with. You know how badly I wanted to be with you all the time, but I couldn’t. Plus I haven’t lived my life that much yet. I thought that maybe I wouldn’t be able to do that if I stayed with you…I don’t know. That might sound stupid.
Naruhodo: Not really. I’ve heard it a few times.
HeeJin: Oh.
Naruhodo: It must be something about me. I know I scared my first girlfriend a bit when I said something like, “I don’t see a problem with us being together for a long time.” She did see a problem with that. She wasn’t serious about the relationship, which I hated afterwards. Why be in one if you aren’t there for a long haul? There was one girl who liked to hang out with me and be close with me and even kiss me, but she didn’t want anything more than that…and she did already have a boyfriend. I flew out to see this girl out of state. We clicked great online, but not in person. There were a few others here and there. The last one I had a relationship with…we were somewhat friends with benefits, but nothing intimate. Kissed, hugged, cuddled, hung out, had fun, everything. We both loved each other, but she wasn’t ready for a boyfriend. I still pressed on and she knew. It actually was starting to go somewhere, but…well, I don’t really want to go into detail, but we just didn’t end up together.
HeeJin: She must not really have loved you.
Naruhodo: She did. I saw how she treated everyone else. She treated me differently. We talked about it one time. One thing she did say that was, I guess a problem for her, was that I was too nice and I made things too easy. I’m sure if it was someone else that wouldn’t be a problem, but that’s how it was for her.
HeeJin: You are too nice.
Naruhodo: That shouldn’t be a problem with how many jerks are out there.
HeeJin: True…there are a lot of assholes out there…met a few of them. You were different from the rest. There is something about you.

- Something about you that makes me never forget…and want you.

HeeJin: I don’t know what it is. But I do know that if there was ever a chance that I could feel comfortable having you back in my life then I’d want to be your girlfriend again.
Naruhodo: …are you ready for me?
HeeJin: …
Naruhodo: HeeJin, do you want me back in your life?

- Naruhodo…I do…but am I ready?

HeeJin: …I don’t know…
Naruhodo: …

- I felt it as he sighed. Our hearts were beating rapidly, our breathing was in sync. We didn’t say anything for a couple minutes. Thing is…we were now holding each other. It felt…right. I don’t care if we don’t say or do anything. I just want to stay here.

HeeJin: …
Naruhodo: …

- He tightened his grip as I did mine. I never thought I’d be starting the new year like this. Already dealing with this drama. Well, it’s not really drama. He’s not making things hard. We haven’t done anything. I’m just wrapped in my thoughts. It is his fault I’m thinking and feeling these things, but it’s my fault also. As I rested my head into his chest, my hands started caressing his body. Now…now something is happening. I can’t stop. We never had the chance to be this close before. This might be the only time…unless I let him back in my life.

HeeJin: Naruhodo.
Naruhodo: Mm?

- Neither of us said what we wanted. Does he even want me back? Or why doesn’t he just make a move? Is he leaving this all to me?

HeeJin: Are you waiting for me to do something?
Naruhodo: Huh?
HeeJin: I don’t know why you haven’t done anything. You’re not attached to anyone. You don’t have anything to lose. It sounds like you could do this again if the chance was there. Are you waiting for some sign to do anything about it?
Naruhodo: Honestly, I wanted to wait for some sign of confirmation from you to know you were okay with this. You’re right. But now I’m going to do something to push things forward.

- Oh my god…he’s on top of me now. What’s he going to do?

Naruhodo: I could do this again if the chance was there. I would take you back into my life, treat you like a princess, and show you love again.
HeeJin: …it’s not going to be like how it was five years ago. I’ve changed since then.
Naruhodo: I know you have. Whatever you did, I wasn’t there for it. You lead your life and so have I. Anyone else that I’d meet had a life before me that I’ll learn about and accept. If you haven’t had the best life then I’ll help change it for the better. If you want to change for me, that’s fine too. Either way our lives will be different with each other in it. But I don’t want to be that “other guy.” So I’m only going to do something because I know you want to also. If you don’t…then I won’t.

- Tell him. If you don’t tell him now then you never will.

HeeJin: …you won’t be the “other guy.”
Naruhodo: What do you mean?

- Tell him now.

HeeJin: When I went to make a call earlier…I called my boyfriend…or…ex-boyfriend.

*Naruhodo’s eyebrow raises.

HeeJin: I didn’t break up with him just because of you. I did it for me. He wasn’t the best boyfriend in the world. He’s a cool guy and fun to hang out with, but there was more in a boyfriend that I wanted that he didn’t have. And things haven’t been going that great the last couple of weeks with him. But being with you right now cleared a few things up in my head about him. I needed to get rid of him as soon as possible and being with you started to make that happen.
Naruhodo: HeeJin…
HeeJin: That was one thing that had to happen. Whether things are going to happen between us right now…I’m still not sure.
Naruhodo: You’re not sure?
HeeJin: …

- I reached up and started to tug on his shirt lightly.

HeeJin: I don’t know if I’m ready for you.

- I undid the bottom button of his over shirt and then the next one above it.

HeeJin: My life has changed so much these past five years. Do I deserve to have someone like you in my life?
Naruhodo: Well…that shouldn’t matter. Opportunities come and go. It was by some kind of coincidence that we saw each other today. We haven’t seen each other for years and here we are. New year, new start. I’ve had the worst year of my life in recent memory this past year. It can’t get worse. I will take this opportunity and make it work. But I can’t do that without you.
HeeJin: …
Naruhodo: You even said yourself earlier, “What’s wrong with trying to be happy? You have to make yourself happy sometimes.”
HeeJin: …
Naruhodo: So if I’m what’s going to make you happy then why don’t you go for it?

- Make the decision. Say something. Saying nothing is going to make him feel bad and you know that you won’t be happy with saying nothing at all.

HeeJin: …

- He rolled off of me…damn. I looked over and he had his eyes closed and his hands clasped on top of his forehead. He gave a deep sigh. Did I just ruin this?

Naruhodo: It’s almost 11. Do you need to go home soon?
HeeJin: No…
Naruhodo: Okay.
HeeJin: …

- Naruhodo…

*She gets up and straddles Naruhodo. He opens his eyes and looks back at her.

HeeJin: Can I spend the night here?
Naruhodo: …are you sure?

- …his lips felt so good pressed against mine. Five years ago I dreamt of this moment. I loved it. As he pulled me down again for another kiss, all that stress I was feeling moments ago were gone. This is where I wanted to be…with him, with his warmth, with his love. Finally.

HeeJin: Naruhodo…
Naruhodo: HeeJin.

- …but…

HeeJin: …umm.

- I put my finger over his lips and lay on top of him.

HeeJin: I’m not sure if we should rush this.
Naruhodo: What do you mean?

- Don’t ruin this…

HeeJin: It’s just that…I don’t want to screw this up.
Naruhodo: How would you screw it up?
HeeJin: I don’t know. I just…I know that if we did this then I want this to be it.
Naruhodo: We can make it work, HeeJin.
HeeJin: I know we could and I really would try to make it happen, I really would.
Naruhodo: Then do it.

- Just do it. Make it work.

HeeJin: …can I just have a moment to gather my thoughts, please?
Naruhodo: Sure.
HeeJin: Thank you.

- …I might have changed, but I know my heart hasn’t. Not for you.

HeeJin: …
Naruhodo: …
HeeJin: Okay. Let me just talk till I’m done, okay?
Naruhodo: Okay.

- Just say anything you can think of. Whatever the result is…it’ll be whatever it is supposed to be.

HeeJin: This is just going to be whatever comes to my head. I can’t help, but think about every little thing possible. I’m even thinking about the stuff from when we were together five years ago. I can clearly remember the things I told you back then. Like…maybe I did make a mistake. Maybe…maybe I was afraid. I didn’t really think I wanted to be with other people, but it didn’t matter at the time. You probably were thinking this is bull s#it, but I found out that I’m always like that. That after a while I will use every excuse to break up with a guy. I don’t know why, and I’m not stupid…well, maybe…I don’t know if I told you, but I told J. That every guy I went out with I break up with within a week or two over stupid things. But you were different. I found true love in you, and I lost that chance, and I know I could have another one, but not right now…I don’t know what I’m talking about. I’m messed up like that I guess. Maybe I would end up lonely…you never know.

- I stopped and sat up to just stare into his eyes for a few seconds. His eyes were focused on me…waiting for me to finish.

HeeJin: I have no idea what I’m talking about. I’m sorry though. I know saying sorry doesn’t help. Maybe I’m screwed up, maybe it was meant to be, I don’t know. I made a mistake that maybe I can fix, just not back then…and I don’t know when. I’m probably making no sense. And if I’m not just don’t listen to what I just said. Maybe I’m not ready for being with someone for the rest of my life, and maybe I’m willing to try, but I don’t know now…

- I had to look away just for a second.

HeeJin: I’m sorry.

- I closed my eyes. My hands had traveled down to his chest while I was talking and I could feel his heart beating. It wasn’t steady, but it wasn’t panicky like mine was. My hands rose up as he took a deep breath. I took one of his hands into mine and started to caress it.

HeeJin: Five year ago I remember talking to my friends and they all convinced me to be honest. I was and I will be right now. Thing is…you are perfect for me, you are all I ever wanted, but it came too soon I guess. I mean, yeah, I would be willing to spend the rest of my life with you, but not at that time back then. I was young…I wanted to end it then and maybe somehow, I was hoping I could be with you when I’m older…because I didn’t want to get all in it and then end it, it would’ve been worse. I mean you came out of nowhere and turned my life upside down. I was this girl that would never lie to anyone, but I lied a lot for you!

*sigh*

HeeJin: Back then I wasn’t able to say all this to your face…I’m sorry, but if you want to tell me something then I’ll listen.
Naruhodo: …

- He didn’t say anything. I just sat on him looking into his eyes and wondering what he could be thinking after what I just said. h*ll…I don’t even know why I had to say those things. I might have just completely ruined things.

Naruhodo: That’s how things were back then. There were things working against us and we couldn’t get passed them. It won’t be like it was back then. You’re not that little girl I fell in love with five years ago. I’m not the same guy you fell in love with five years ago. If you are having those feelings though…then we shouldn’t rush things…if we are going to make this happen.

- His grip tightened.

Naruhodo: We can learn to love each other all over again and make it as perfect as you wanted it to be. Maybe this is the time when it was supposed to happen. You were hoping you could be with me when you were older. This is that time.

- I felt his hands as they brought my body against his. He kissed the top of my head and whispered to me, “I’m willing to make you as happy as possible and give you everything you’ve ever wanted. Please…take my offer. Please…say “yes.” God, I hate my life! Why am I still unsure about this? I’m here with my true love and he’s willing to be in my life again and I have not taken him back! Dammit! Just say “yes!” I hate that I ruined our chance back then! I hate that I ignored you! I hate that you’re back in my life! I hate that I can’t just take you back! Why, dammit?! I love you! I love you so much…Naruhodo. He started to wipe my eyes as my tears started soaking into his shirt. He then brought me up to his face and kissed me as more tears rolled down. His lips…mm…I want this. I want all of this.

HeeJin: I love you, Naruhodo.
Naruhodo: I love you, HeeJin.

*…*

- …after we made love that night, we watched each other till we fell asleep. I…I just can’t believe how happy I felt…how safe…how warm…how loved. This was everything I wanted. I was finally able to be with him and it was amazing. Naruhodo, my true love…I will always love you no matter what happens to me. You are perfect for me…no one will ever be like you.

HeeJin: …good-bye, Naruhodo.
