I've always chosen FF over WS. I just don't like two chunks of black layer below and top of an image. Even if a slight portion of the scene is lost to convert it to FF, that's still just a slight bit and doesn't enhance or improve the experience. But, if i have no choice but to watch in Widescreen, no problem. I just rather see it in Fullscreen. |

Exactly the opposite here, Edwin. "Letterbox" or what you're calling "Widescreen" shows quite a bit more of the movie, as the director intended it to look. The current TV screen (of "Full Frame" as you call it) has an "aspect ratio" (width to height) of 4X3, where Letterbox is 9X16, which matches movie theatre screens. (This is also HD TV's ratio) Edwin, try this experiement: Many movies are widescreen on one side of the DVD, and FF on the other. Watch the movie twice, once each way, and see just how much more you will enjoy the Widescreen experience. (If you need to, just sit a little closer to the screen!) Fullscreen is good if you have small TV's like a 13" thingy in the kitchen. If you have a big screen TV, gotta get widescreen so you get the extra content. If you have a video service like netflix, it won't matter 'cause you can try out both. Edwin needs an HDTV; don't we all? Actually they'd have to redo all the DVD players and video titles with increased video resolution (720-1080i/p) anyways once HDTV gets going. |

i MUST have WIDESCREEN....i can't stand fullscreen...unless thats the only option available...and it doesnt even matter what size the screen is...i always feel like i'm missing part of the picture just cuz they want it to fill the "square" tv screen...which is gonna be a thing of the past pretty soon anyways...and...widescreen is how the directors intended their movies to be seen anyways... |

Don't you mean FF, Nick? I mean, decent size would mean is an old TV? I guess i need an HDTV...but, i'll get one once i own the PS3 and Xbox 360 sine they both are gonna support the HDTV thing. Funny thing is that most girls prefer FF and when they ask me what's the difference, i say FF is a bigger picture and that always seems to win their choice.. lol |

decent size : anything greater than 35" diagonal. Most popular non-bigscreen models are usually 43" and HDTV ready. If you have a bedrom 27" tv, the WS effect is wasted with all the small people. Be like that Paroxysm video where the kid is obsessed with the weather lady and buys a nice widescreen tv ;) |

Hmm, where would ipod videos and TV show downloads fit in this? If you thought 19" TV's with widescreen was small, I can't imagine wanting to see that on an ipod. Seeing it on a pooter is different though, I'd prefer WS for the content. |

You know what, Angus, I think it (wide screen, on an IPOD) would improve it. It would make the data reduction harder to notice, since everything's smaller. And i agree about watching movies on the PC. I watch almost all my DVDs now, here, as the LCD monitor is much nicer. //Seoul |

i guess for a small screen like ipod it wouldnt matter if it was wide or not, but a movie itself i'd still wanna see in widescreen format if possible...w/s ipods is probably already in the works...i think PSP is set for widescreen already |

no because ff on a big screen sometimes makes things out of proportion. |
