This day marks the five year anniversary of Kim HwanSung's tragic passing back in 2000, shortly after the release of NRG's third album. I wrote this back in 2001 to acknowledge him. He was my favorite member, the youngest member of NRG, his life, his talent, his contributions cut short at only 19 years of age. I would like to repost this in honor of his ongoing memory and in acknowledgement of how his music and his absence both impacted my life. Best of luck to NRG and to the fans alike who continue to support them as I do, with all of us holding near the past in which Kim HwanSung was here and the present in which his essence lives on. Anything For Kim HwanSung PROLOGUE When I saw that you needed, I couldn't resist. And even without their blessing, I had to insist. Think they've yet to realize what I did and why. I gave you what's mine so that you wouldn't die. So it wasn't as simple as science alone. My fate hath been shortened, but your lifeline hath grown. You now have a future; success in the end. And if I had the chance, I would do it again. Although they still don't get it, I pray they will try. And I pray that you've followed, this motive as I. How could you not know why I do what I do? I'd do just about anything; anything for you... Posted Image Posted Image THE STORY As they sat there before him, he hoped to have fought for a life with his lady and the future they sought. But the one that became him was an illness so rare to have taken his dreams and his life was unfair. So then, he'd opt to utter or breathe not a word and deny many ties to a given they'd heard. His loved ones, his love were never to know that he needed of something they couldn't bestow. Doctor: "Mr. Kim we have news that you might find of help. We've a donor in mind, who's factors fit your health. And we'd like you to meet at time near the date so that risks are made clear before we operate. Taking this chance, for the both of your lives would mean critical times, beneath our desperate knives. But she's willing to go against odds in our hands no matter how great, to help salvage your span." ^ ^ ^ Not in so many words, HwanSung altered the view, moral praise for the stranger who was willing to do what he'd known, in this world, would've moved very few upon hearing the stakes and the stats this girl knew. He felt guilt for not knowing of yet who she'd be, though he gave thanks to her and her God innately. And for once, he'd have chance at lifelong happiness with his lady, his lover, Jolina Reyes. While strolling through the valley, Sung gazed at the sky thinking back to the day, he found out he would die. Had it happened before his young love would arrive he'd have cared not as much about being alive. For this girl, he was willing to trust an unknown knowing well of how useless their words were alone. How so often he sat through the sad breaking news of how strangers before failed to follow on through. His ailing grew dire, he had to hide out but the day by day risk steady lurking about. He knew to live life long as he was still there to secure that his girl wasn't left to despair. And as he made his way to the welcoming door he found gestures of her, charismatic, once more. "Jolly!" he would call her for each time he'd appear he'd see glee on her face, a joy toddling near. Always running to meet him, arms fitting to his frame with a jovial laugh as she called out his name. And she babbled and babbled pulling back so to see her smile shown in his eyes, returned reflectively. She shyed further away, sudden grief loomed about with unbearable thoughts, afterlife lived without his existence, for she just as well felt a pain in a previous life threatening agreement, the same. ~~~The Next Day~~~ Doctor: "Miss we know that yourre eager to start right away and we might recommend you prepare for this day. But before, we've to sit and review to be sure of the hazardous outcomes often known to occur. Now the patient is ill, but we're certain he'll show and by this time tomorrow, we'll be all set to go. We'll need you to sign a few forms while we wait. They secure of your sanction to participate." The girl there was frightened, precautions abundant explained why the donors before grew reluctant. Was there not a way to secure she'd be well? Was she just to ensure the caretaker might fail? Her confidence fell and her face close behind while in tears of despair she proceeded to sign. She recalled of the day, her life held in the hands of another, such grand charismatic young man. ~~~Flashback~~~ "Jolina," her name never sounded as sweet as when he'd call out on the days they would meet. Sitting closely beside her, his brown chinky eyes had the power to silence her previous cries of destructive ambitions once held in the place he now conquered with ease of a loving embrace. He gave her days meaning each time he would come. Life with him was her joy, and her pride-Kim HwanSung... The time was upon them, when would he arrive to meet this sweet savior who'd keep him alive? So lonesome and scared, as the hour drew near "Oo Sungie," she whispered, "I wish you were here." Thoughts back to those times she had felt so alone but her love was right there as if he'd always known that she needed the strength of his sheltering arms of his caretaking vows, and his warm selfless charms. At the snap of the bolt, medics rose to their feet as the girl in the corner too stood from her seat. Twas his long golden strands that soon marked a trace and as he also turned to soon meet her face, she found in his eyes a trace all the more reminiscent of one she had treasured before. And she noted the strain as he struggled the same to give her familiar face a fair name. He shuffled about, drawn close to conceive of the scented perception he picked up with ease as she'd wandered to where he stood harboring fear "Oppa," she smiled. "How'd you know I'd be here?" The doctor was speechless, though somewhat confused when he saw that his patient was not as amused. His facial expressions were those of concern as his drama had taken a heart-rending turn. The man cloaked in white soon sat them again to explain what he thought the confusion had been. What HwanSung had needed, this girl would confer He laughed in denial, while turning to her. She looked at him sadly, refused to believe her lover had heart to cruelly deceive. Why hadn't he spoken? Why hadn't she known? Why had she allowed him to ail all alone? "Jolina!" he cried as he saw her break for an end to this plot in the form of a door. But he caught her in time as he'd done times before for he just as well fought as hard to implore. He begged for her mercy, and pleaded anew that she walk away from what she'd vowed to do. A life lived without her brought panic within and when she refused, he would argue again. Harsh words were exchanged as he tried to persuade that she quickly take back the agreement she made. Her eyes held conviction as she shook her head and his verbal abuse found affection instead. As she reached out to hold him, he couldn't resist accepting her arms, he embraced her with his. "Sarang hae," he whispered. She held him so tight. Oo the mean things he'd say each time they would fight... "Oppa," she pleaded. "Please let me stay here." So desperate to save him, she jolted in tears. But he then turned away as if to resent her stubborn attempt to convince him again. He didn't want to lose her, he'd rather much die for being without her as life passed him by was a pain, he just knew he'd be too weak to bear. Her aid not as potent, if she'd not be there. The girl soon broke down, decisive her motions. She spoke out again of aforementioned notions. "I wont let you leave me!" He turned in surprise, determination in her voice and her eyes. He tried to fight back, but grew weak by the minute. She'd have the last word, with their fate chartered in it. "SUNGIE!" she wailed as he fell at her feet. Excessive his breathing, his heart skipped a beat. The pounding within him grew more inconsistent. She tried so to hold him, but he'd grown resistant. While he struggled to shake off the mild attack he heard whispered prayers there calling him back. He again felt her presence invading his space. Felt revived by the awe in her tone, on her face. Tears spoke of a promise she'd dare never break and so he'd have no choice but that promise to take. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image CONCLUSION Sung wandered the hall, fighting every temptation to turn and walk back from his love, his salvation. The last to arrive, but the case altogether one each individual would cite till forever. He wasted no time, approaching his lover with a few final minutes, they held one another. She reached in her bag, tiny hands pulled a slew of handwritten notes, "I made this for you." He took them to read them, she pulled them away and asked that he look at them later that day. He agreed, felt relieved by the faith in her eyes as she smiled assuring their immortal ties. No way would she leave him, nor would she agree to be anywhere far from wherever he'd be. And with one last embrace, a soft peck at her face she led him, he followed, one unified pace. ~~~In The OR~~~ As they lye beneath lights, they waited and wondered, should they bid good luck before going under? Their gazes were locked as they tried to restore within one another, that faith from before. She reached for his hand, her wee fingers waited his soft skin as warm as her soft skin had made it. Together, fulfillment was easily measured by sweet simple gestures, each lovingly treasured. The staff was soon set with procedures to start. Slowly, gas overtook last impressions apart. Where their hearts were once close, now each left with his own happy thoughts, happy times, they together had known. HwanSung relived a time he first fell for this one such a cute, helpless creature who'd smile when he'd come. Incidentally, where they had began, there again, as their fingers unlocked, it would come to an end... He awoke that same night with less strength than before And immediately asked, "Is Jolina next door?" But the doctor approached with a voice less enthused and reluctance and all, he delivered the news. Doctor: "Mr. Kim we are pleased to inform indications show you will recover with mild medications. However, we ask that you still remain patient. Miss Reyes had suffered severe complications." HwanSung wasted no time, making tracks toward the door but exceeding his balance, he fell to the floor. In the process, his eyes caught the glimpse of a scene the familiar frail figure slept far too serene. He heard medics surround her, so sadly outspoken, how this good hearted young one had never awoken. He followed the sheets as they slid past her head. Uncontrollable tears, he collapsed on her bed... Posted Image Posted Image After hours of anguish and mad desperation Sungie finally found peace in complete isolation. He looked toward the heavens for answers but none would suffice for the priceless loss of his loved one. How a God could have gruesomely taken away the significance needed to get through his days was a pain he had known long before the inception of finding his love, her inspiring conception. And so it appeared, where he thought he'd begun he'd been taken again, by the painful outcome. Having lost his one reason for living, left none but despariting days till his new life was done. Mindlessly, while he looked through remains left behind, he'd again come across potential peace of mind. Sheets of paper were marked, happy pictures and notes. Made him weep, made him smile, reading what she wrote... "Dearest Oppa," he cried as he mouthed with his lips. "When I saw that you needed, I couldn't resist..."
