Jang Yoon-jeong Performs in Japan wearing Hanbok
2005-04-27

Nicknamed as ‘the BoA of Korean Trot Music,’ Korean traditional style pop singer Jang Yoon-jeong made her first appearance on Japanese television performing her hit song “Oh, My Goodness” wearing hanbok, Korean traditional costume. Visiting Japan on April 26th, Jang appeared on “Gayo Concert,” a live television show on NHK held in Shibuya, Tokyo. Considering that the television music show records an average viewing rate of more than 15%, it was an exceptional case that a Korean singer performed wearing hanbok. Originally, Jang had been recommended to wear kimono by the producers as the show features “Enca” music, or Japanese traditional style pop song similar to Korean “Trot”, but insisted on wearing the Korean traditional costume. Jang Yoon-jeong first made herself known to the Japanese public by appearing on a special documentary on Asahi TV along with Hikawa Kiyoshi, one of the biggest Enca stars in Japan who visited Korea last January. Currently, Jang’s hit song “Oh, My Goodness” is gaining popularity among Japanese Enca fans. Japanese record producers are also known to be showing interest in Jang’s music. Before she visited Japan, Jang Yoon-jeong completed recording her second official album which includes songs in various genres as ballad, fusion-trot and R&B. Jang’s new album will be released in May.#AMR#
