Okay, I posted this on Solid07, but I'm posting here. XP Enjoy!

Part 1 - What the H*ll Happened Last Night?

“Ah, d*mn,” he whispered, holding his hand over his eyes to guard them from the glowing white light of the sun that flooded the room. “Where the h*ll am I?” Looking around, he slowly began to piece together what had taken place the night before, and it didn’t please him in the least. In fact, it scared the living daylights out of him. The stench of incense lingered in the room, making it seem just as stuffy as the heat that pounded his face did. He wasn’t wearing his night shirt, nor the shirt from yesterday. It, instead, was on the floor by the closed door. Beside him by the bed lay his blue jeans, and from the lamp beside him hung his favorite pair of faded blue boxers. Yes, he was lying in bed… naked. To make matters worse, it was a rather large bed that he didn’t recognize. In fact, it was pink and feminine. As he lifted the covers to make sure he was, indeed, naked, a small screech escaped his lips at the sight in front of him.

A beautiful girl lay next to him, her long black hair falling over her bare back and trailing on the bed and pillow like a river. Her soft skin and sensual curves made it hard to resist touching her, but the fear that clenched tightly to his heart with its cold, unforgiving hands kept him from listening to his “male instincts.” Quickly dropping the blanket, he jumped out of bed and began to get dressed, trying to remember how he got there…and wondering if the obvious had happened.

Just as he made it to the door, the girl mumbled a little and sat up, rubbing her eyes gently. After a few moments, she blinked slowly and gazed at him as though seeing through him. “Who are you?” she asked, sounding too innocent to have been the girl that he had apparently been with the night before.

“I’m… I’m…” he stuttered, not sure if his name really meant anything at the moment. “Wait, who are you?”

She looked around the room, seeming to slowly absorb the evidence that led to the only conclusion the man could come up with. Soon, she covered her mouth, tears beginning to form in her eyes, and turned her gaze to him, terror pulling her face into something at which he couldn’t bare to look, knowing he had caused it. “Did you… Did you…?”

Before she could finish the question, he fled from the room, running down the stairs, and headed outside. A quick glance around told him he was on the trashier side of town, and he had stayed in a low-rate hotel. Looking around, he found a bus stop where he could sit and contemplate what had taken place the day before. After a long pause, he finally recalled everything that he could have possibly remembered and pieced them together. It was his friend’s birthday, and he went to a new bar to have a drink with him. It seemed so perfect, because the house special was the “funky monkey,” and his friend, Tony, looked just like one. The two had three or four of them, and after that, it was a blank. He assumed that he and Tony had passed out or became too drunk to remember what had happened. He began to wonder what in the world was in those drinks to act so quickly and effectively, because he normally handled his alcohol quite well.

He had waited on the bench for about ten minutes before she came out, fully clothed. “Sir?” she asked shakily, reaching out a hand to him. She never touched him, though, as he had jumped and began to run as soon as he heard her. She chased after him a ways before giving up and letting herself fall to her knees to catch her breath. He, too, stopped, at turned to see that she was alright. “I’m sorry!” he yelled. “I can’t remember what happened! It’s not my fault!” Before she could respond in any way, he began darting down the street again, possibly heading home.

She watched his figure fade into the heat waves rising from the concrete and fought the tears that rose in her eyes. She knew what had happened as it didn’t take a genius to figure it out. That man had taken her body the night before. He had stolen her purity, and then he claimed that it wasn’t his fault! She certainly didn’t have the money for a hotel room! She wasn’t even sober last night! Her friend, Tim, and she went out to a new bar to have a few drinks, as her boyfriend had just dumped her, and she was having a hard time with it. They both had a few shots of the special, and everything after that was blank. It had to have been his fault! He must have taken advantage of her weakened state. “It’ll be a cold day in h*ll before I ever let alcohol touch these lips again,” she muttered, letting her tears fall onto the boiling concrete. “And I’ll find you, you blue-haired freak, or my name isn’t Woo Lin!”

-

He ran into his house, kicked off his shoes, and dragged himself to the light gray couch in the living room. Grabbing the phone from the side table, he hit the speed dial and said slowly, “Tony Ahn, I’ll kill you!”

“Whoa! What’s going on?” asked a very terrified voice on the other end.

“You let me go home with a girl last night, and now… Now… I’m…”

“What do you mean I let you? Dude, I was plastered! I can’t remember anything! And… You went home with a chick? Did you…you know?”

“It d*mn well looks like it!” he yelled, his breath coming back.

“Look, I’m sorry, but I didn’t let you do anything! Like I said, I was just as drunk as you, but, for some reason, probably and act of God, I found my way home! D*mn, I can’t believe you lost your virginity, man! Was she one, too?”

“How the h*ll should I know?” he growled, wiping sweat from his brow. “It’s not like I looked or anything! D*mn, I’m p*ssed! We only had two or three drinks, you know? I never get drunk that quick!”

Tony mumbled an agreement and said, “Well, at least you’ll probably never see her again, right, Woo Hyuk?”

“Yeah, I guess. That’s not much consolation, though. Anyway, I’ll let you go. I have stuff to do… like get over this d*mn hangover!”

“Alright. Later, man!”

Woo Hyuk put his phone back in the charger and sighed heavily, wondering if the events of last night that he couldn’t even recall, much less really had any control over, would come back to haunt him later.

Little did he know, he would live with the effects for the rest of his life.

Part 2 - My Mistake

Lin went back to the hotel room under the pretense of getting her things and searched the room for any clue as to who that horrible man was. Right beside the bed lay a small piece of paper that had something scribbled on it. Picking it up, she read the phone number and the name “Ji Yoon,” snorting loudly. “I knew it! He’s a womanizer!” Flipping the card over, she saw that it was a one-time bus pass for the circuit of busses on the other side of town. “So, he’s from that rich residence, is he?” she muttered, leaving the room to pay a quick call to Ms. Ji Yoon on the nearest pay phone. “Spoiled rich brat.”

It took a few minutes walk, but she finally found a pay phone and pulled the change from her pocket to place the call. After a short moment, someone answered the phone, “Hello?”

“Hello?” Lin responded, tucking her hair behind her ear. “I don’t mean to startle you, ma’am, but I’m a private detective, Ms. Park, and the main I’m trailing left a card with this number on it in the hotel room he stayed in last night. The name that was with the number was ‘Ji Yoon.’ Are you Ms. Ji Yoon?”

“Yes, I am,” she replied nervously. “Who are you trailing?”

“That’s what I’d like you to tell me,” Lin said shortly.

“If you were hired to tail him, wouldn’t you know who he was?” The skepticism was obvious in Ji Yoon’s voice.

Lin bit her tongue as she quickly thought of a way around the question. “The person who hired me, who shall remain anonymous, was a victim of a crime to which he was an accomplice; therefore, I was hired to find out who he is.”

“What did he do?”

“It’s not your concern. That’s information only for those intimately involved with the investigation.” And there’s your big fat clue, b*tch! Lin thought angrily, getting rather impatient.

“Oh, well, I give my number to a lot of men. Could you describe him?”

She looked at the bus pass in her hand and furrowed her brows, wishing that he had at least left something with his name on it. “He resides in the northern district of town, has very light blue hair, now, anyway, and stands about 175, 176 centimeters, and is athletic.”

There was silence for a period of time as Ji Yoon apparently thought about the description. “Sounds familiar. I think I saw a guy like that in town. Maybe he was at a restaurant? No! He was on the bus! I remember! I wrote my number on the back of his card! That was just three days ago!”

My God! Lin thought, completely astonished. He has no restraint what so ever!

“Um…What was his name again? Hold on. Let me go check my purse. I think he gave me his number, too.”

She waited rather impatiently as the girl ran to her personal bag to retrieve the only thing that mattered to her in the entire world at the moment. After a moment, Ji Yoon came back and said, “Yeah, I have it.”

“Great! Can you give me his name?”

“I only have his first name. It’s Woo Hyuk.”

“Woo Hyuk?”

“Yes.”

Lin furrowed her brows and chewed her lip. “Can I have his number?”

“Are you kidding! Do you know how much I had to flirt to get this? I’m not going to give it to just anybody!”

“I warn you, you are meddling with police affairs!”

“I thought you were a private investigator!”

“And this has to do with a crime. Therefore, it is a police matter. Please, provide me with the number.”

Ji Yoon sighed heavily as though being asked to take the weight of the world on her shoulders and muttered, “What if I don’t want to?”

“Then you’ll be an accessory to the crime in my report. Do you want to go to jail and be Big Sally’s girlfriend?”

“Oh my God! Ew! No! Here!” She quickly spit out the digits, made sure Lin got them, and hung up.

“Easier than I thought,” Lin grinned, sliding the bus pass with Woo Hyuk’s number into her back pocket. Now, all she had to do was perform a person search, call him an old classmate, and find his *ss so that she could kick the sh*t out of it.

-

Woo Hyuk had all but forgotten about that girl and the night he couldn’t remember with his job at the “family business.” His father owned a cooperation that sold cell phones and bought out anyone else that tried. During the seven months after the “incident” that only he, Tony, and his friend from work, Jae Won, knew about, his father managed to snatch another few companies from under the noses of their CEOs; so Woo Hyuk had quite a bit of paperwork to keep his mind off things. Of course, he still remembered, but very rarely did he ever think about it.

That is, until one day he received a phone call one night after he came home from work. “Hello?” he asked the phone, rubbing his shoulders. “Jae Won?” he added by reflex, knowing his friend was supposed to call him after work to arrange what to do on their off day.

“Wrong,” sang the feminine, icy voice on the other end.

“Who is this? Did I give you my number somewhere…?”

“I got it from a mutual friend.”

He nodded and sat down. “Okay. Well, if you give me your number, I’ll call you back. Right now, I’m waiting on a call from-”

“Shut up, you idiot! I’m not calling for a date!”

“What? Who the h*ll is this?”

“You’re one-night lover coming back to bite you in the *ss!”

Dread splashed over his head and seeped down his back, penetrating his skin to swallow his heart. “You’re… You’re not…”

“I am. It took me seven months to track you down! Your d*mn friend, Ji Yoon, was to ******* air headed to give me the right number, so all I had to go on was your crappy blue hair and your stupid one-time only bus pass!”

“Oh, so that’s where it went…”

“Stop trying to be cute!” she yelled. “You’d better pay for your mistakes!”

“What do you mean? If it’s money you want-”

“Come outside and you’ll see.”

He coughed and spun around. “What the h*ll did you say? You’re outside? Outside my house?”

“You’d better believe it.”

Slamming the phone into the charger, he quickly slipped on his shoes and ran outside, turning his gaze up and down the street. Before he could locate her, though, a small hand grasped his arm tightly from behind, and he jumped back, wrenching himself from it’s grip.

“Hello, Woo Hyuk,” she hissed.

“H-h-hello,” he stuttered, eying her rather large stomach. “Umm… I hope your appetite just increased.”

She nodded and stepped forward, making him step back. “Eating for two is h*ll when your paycheck barely covers one.”

Woo Hyuk gulped and took another step back. “You’re… You’re not…”

“Yes, Woo Hyuk. I’m pregnant. I’m having YOUR baby!” She forced him back again, making him stumble over a few trashcans. “I want you to take responsibility for your actions!”

My actions? D*mn! I can’t remember sh*t from that night! I was drunk off my *ss, and then, I woke up in the room! It’s not my fault!”

She growled and stomped her foot, which didn’t look to healthy, as her belly trembled and jostled as she carried on her fit. “It doesn’t ******* matter who’s ******* fault it is! You’re d*mn, ugly mistake is in me, and I want you to take responsibility! I don’t have the means to take care of the child!”

He shook his head wildly and jumped to his feet. “No! There’s NO way I’m going to admit to having a child! Because I don’t! That night meant nothing! Obviously, neither of us knew what we were doing, and this ‘child’ is a mistake. Just do what you’re supposed to with a mistake!”

“What’s that?” she demanded, shooting fire at him with her demonic glare.

“Get rid of it! Erase it! Forget it!”

“You want me to put it up for adoption?”

“And risk having it come find me later after I have a family so that I have to explain about this to my wife and kids? H*ll, no! Have an abortion!”

This time, it was Lin shaking her head wildly. “Are you out of your d*mn mind? I’m not killing my baby!”

“Oh, now it’s suddenly your baby! It’s no longer my mistake! Well, if I thought there were any chance of you continuing that line of thought for the next fifty years, I might let you keep it, but since you seem determined to make me pay for the brat’s life, you’re having an abortion!”

Holding her stomach in her hands she forced him into a brick wall and pressed it against him. “Can’t you see how far along I am? It’s too old for even a heartless b*stard like you to kill!”

Looking utterly disgusted, he leaned down and whispered, “You’ll have an abortion, or I’ll drown it myself the first time you come to me asking for your check.”

She gasped and backed away, covering her mouth with her hands. “You’re… You’re joking!”

“Yeah… Joke my *ss!” he spat as he shot her the finger, his anger rising to dangerous levels. “You’re one crazy b*tch to be coming up here in my neighborhood, claiming that I have to take care of that mistake when it’ll only cost you twenty bucks to go take care of it yourself! Is that what you want? The twenty dollars?”

“YOU MONSTER!” she shrieked, throwing an old cabbage from the trash Woo Hyuk knocked over at him. “I’m going to have this baby, then I’m going to see your sorry *ss in court!”

Smiling crudely, he raised his hands and said, “Don’t come crying to me when you’re kid dies in the cradle.”

Just then, someone called out from across the street, “Hey, Woo Hyuk! Is that a friend of yours?”

He glanced up and moaned, wishing that man hadn’t shown up. He could’ve easily pretended this didn’t happen, but now there was proof that it did. “Hey,” Woo Hyuk answered weakly, brushing his hair that he had dyed dark brown from his eyes.

Lin turned and smiled, seeing the innocent sparkle in Woo Hyuk’s friend’s eyes. Yes! she thought triumphantly. I have another chance to make this work!

The friend just smiled at both of them, completely oblivious to the war that he would soon play a major part in.

Part 3 - Help Me!

“So, who’s this, Woo Hyuk?” his friend asked as he sat on the couch, indicating the girl sitting in the armchair.

“That is…just a girl,” he answered, realizing he didn’t know her name.

She coughed lightly and nodded. “I’m Woo Lin.”

“Woo Lin?” he repeated, smiling brightly. “Woo Hyuk and Woo Lin! That’s a match made in Heaven! Or would be if you weren’t, well, obviously involved with someone else.”

She shifted uncomfortably and answered, “No, we’re not together.”

“Oh, break up recently?”

“We were…never together.”

He blinked at her, looking rather confused, and said, “Ah, well, anyway, my name is Tony. Tony Ahn.”

“Hello, Tony,” she greeted warmly. “It’s unusual to meet a Korean with an American name…”

“Well, I lived in America for a few years, and no one could spell or say my name, so I just took on an American nickname, and it kinda stuck. So, if you don’t mind my asking, how far along are you?”

“Seven months,” she answered shortly, running a hand over her large stomach absentmindedly.

“Oh, can you feel it kicking?”

Nodding, she smiled, glad that he obviously had a very different opinion about the unborn than the jerk next to him.

He stood and walked to her, holding out a hand. “Can I feel?”

“Sure!”

Tony placed his hand on Lin’s stomach and waited a few minutes, but felt nothing. “Ah, it must be asleep.”

“Oh, just poke it!”

“Really? Is that okay?”

“Sure, Tim does it all the time. He says he’s playing with the baby.”

“Is Tim your boyfriend?” Tony asked, gently poking her stomach.

“No, just a friend,” she answered, also prodding her belly.

Soon, the baby was awake and kicking, and Tony laughed excitedly as he felt the motions of the unborn child. “So, is this his child?” he asked between shouts of excitement.

“No, it’s not. I don’t really know the father that well…”

“Oh,” he said, sounding rather disappointed. “So, are you a…?”

“No! I don’t sell myself! I didn’t know what I was doing that night. I was having some problems, so I had a few drinks, then I woke up with a strange man.”

He chuckled as he took back his seat on the couch. “Sounds like what happened to Woo Hyuk.”

“Amazing, isn’t it?” Woo Hyuk said, finally joining the conversation. “I wonder how the father would feel if she confronted him?” he added moodily.

Tony furrowed his eyebrows and seemed lost in thought for a few moments before he replied, “Well, if I were the father, I’d take responsibility. I mean, it’s still my kid, no matter who the mother is, right? I’d want to be a good father to it. Of course, I might not marry the her, because, well, I might not love her, but I'd try to get to know her, you know?”

Woo Hyuk snorted and leaned back in his chair. “Yeah, right, Tony. You say that now, but I bet you’d change your mind if it happened to you.”

“What would you do, then?”

“Tell her to get an abortion. I wouldn’t want to ruin my life.”

“What if getting an abortion ruined her life, though?” Tony demanded. He obviously felt very passionate about the subject.

“I doubt that. She’ll get over it like everyone else does.”

Tony shook his head and turned back to Lin. “I hope the father of your baby doesn’t feel the same way Woo Hyuk does.”

Lin bit her lip and looked away, not really sure how to break the news to such an innocent-looking man that his friend was scum.

After a few moments, Tony broke the silence by asking, “So, why are you here? Are you and Woo Hyuk good friends?”

“No, we just met,” she answered politely as she stood. “Well, I’d better get going. I have a doctor’s appointment," she lied. "I’ll see you soon.”

Tony smiled brightly and replied, “I hope you come by again sometime while I’m here! And to think! In two months, you’ll be coming by with the baby!”

Her smile was rather weak as she bowed to him and turned to leave. “’Bye, Woo Hyuk,” she muttered almost absentmindedly.

He didn’t even acknowledge her presence as she closed the door behind her.

-

“Why me?” is all Lin could ask herself as she entered her apartment building, completely depressed after the visit to Woo Hyuk’s home.

“Lin, is that you?” called a masculine voice from her kitchen.

“Tim?” she replied, taking off her shoes. “What are you doing here?”

He came into the living room and flicked his hair from his eyes, smiling just slightly. “Well, I knew you were going to see that Woo Hyuk character, so I thought I’d come over to offer some moral support.”

“How’d you get in? You don’t have a key!”

“The baby must be sucking your brains dry! You forgot to lock your door! You do that almost every day now!”

“Oh,” was all she could say as she sat on the couch, rubbing her stomach absentmindedly.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, sitting beside her.

“Woo Hyuk wants me to have an abortion because he says it was a mistake, and he doesn’t want it to ruin his life.”

Tim just looked at her seriously and chewed his bottom lip for a few minutes. “What do you think you should do?” he finally asked.

“You know I want to keep the baby! That’s why I went to meet him today!” she answered, feeling rather offended that he had to ask. “Why? What do you think?”

“Lin, you know me,” he started. “I’ll support any decision you make, but…since Woo Hyuk’s not…as supportive as I am… And the child will grow up thinking it was a product of such a horrible thing and will have to deal with that rejection from its father…”

She stood up and covered her ears. “Shut up! I can’t believe you! You sound just like him, except more thought out and you’re not making a complete *ss of yourself! I don’t care if Woo Hyuk wants to be a father or not! I’ll get married at raise it to think my husband is its father, not that horrible man I met today!”

Tim sighed heavily and nodded. “I know. We’ve discussed this many times, but I doubt you’ll find someone, fall in love, and get married within the next year since you’ll have a child. Most guys don’t go for that.”

She just shook her head and fought the tears that were threatening to spill from her eyes. “Stop it! I can raise it on my own! It doesn’t matter! Your father abandoned you and your mother right after you were born, and look how you turned out!”

He looked at the floor between his feet and muttered, “I know. That’s how I know what the kid will go through as it grows up. I will always remember the empty, miserable feeling I had when we went around the room in school and said what our fathers did for a living… And on Father’s Day… And any holiday, actually…”

Lin covered her mouth and whispered, “I’m sorry. Oh, I’m so sorry! I wasn’t thinking when I said that!”

“I know you weren’t. You couldn’t think enough to lock the door before you left!” he joked, thumping her nose. “Don’t worry about it. Anyway, I made supper. Let’s go eat.” He stood and walked into the kitchen, wearing a big smile that only worried Lin. It was obviously plastered onto his face, but she didn’t let him know that she knew. No, it was better to play ignorant, especially if he were serving food, because he might just give her a lot of nasty health foods and deny her anything good, saying she needed to eat better for the baby. She, for one, didn’t want to give up her fried rice.

Part 4 - What to Do?

It had been a week, and Woo Hyuk hadn’t heard from Lin, so he figured she had given up on making him “take responsibility.” That is, until he received a phone call Saturday afternoon.

“Hello?” he asked, wondering who would be calling him, as Tony and Jae Won were sitting there with him in the living room.

“Hello?” echoed a nervous female voice. “Woo Hyuk?”

“Yes, this is he. Who is this?”

“Lin.”

A cold chill followed quickly by boiling rage ran down him as her name rang through his head. “Why are you calling me?” he demanded, the quietness of his voice only aiding in the cold air that emitted from his tone. “I thought I told you where I stand on your problem.”

“This isn’t just my problem!” she pleaded, sounding a little angry herself.

“Yeah, it’s yours and your friend’s. I told you to leave me out of it.”

“Who’s that?” Jae Won asked, nudging Tony.

Woo Hyuk glanced at the two of them and mouthed, “Woo Lin.”

Tony nodded knowingly and told Jae Won of what had happened a week ago with the pregnant woman. Jae Won pursed his lips and leaned forward, resting his chin in his hand. “I see,” was all he said as his eyebrows furrowed with deep thought.

Lin sighed heavily and said, “Look, Woo Hyuk, I’m not killing this baby. I don’t care what you say! I just want you to at least know him a little!”

“Him? It’s an it, not a him! Look, I don’t want a part of it! I’m not going to let that one night where I didn’t even know what the h*ll I was doing ruin my life, okay? How am I supposed to explain this to whatever future wife I have?”

“Don’t you think I’ll have a harder time explaining this to a future husband of mine? Lots of people get married to people that already have children! Ever heard of a step child? Hello!”

Woo Hyuk rolled his eyes and muttered, “I wish you’d shut your d*mn mouth and leave me alone. I’ve told you that I’m not going to have a kid, okay? The only option I want you to consider is abortion. I don’t want you to keep the kid, because you’ll tell it I’m its father, and it’ll come find me. If you give it up for adoption, it’ll become curious as to who its parents are, and I’m still screwed. No, just have an abortion. It’s easy! Thousands of women have them every day!”

Lin growled quite audibly as she retorted, “I wish YOU’D grow a d*mn brain, you mother ******!!! I don’t understand how you can just send your child to be killed! I don’t care what you say, I’m keeping it with or without your help! If need be, I have Tim here to help me!”

“I thought I said for you to-”

“SHUT UP, PR*CK!” Then, she forcefully suggested he enjoy himself before hanging up.

“D*mn crazy b*tch,” he mutterd, also hanging up.

“So, you’re the father?” Tony asked, folding his arms. “And you didn’t tell me?”

“What the…? How’d you know?” Woo Hyuk asked, feeling rather dazed at the moment.

He rolled his eyes and responded, “The phone conversation was a big clue, man. I can’t believe you’re so d*mn heartless! If that were my kid, I’d do my best to make sure she wouldn’t have an abortion!"

Woo Hyuk shook his head and looked to Jae Won. “Jae Won, you feel the same way I do, right?”

“No, I don’t,” he said shortly, gazing at the wall. “Abortion is wrong. I can’t believe you want to kill your own child.”

He trembled as he yelled in reply, “IF YOU THOUGHT HALF AS LOGICALLY AS I DO, YOU’D UNDERSTAND!” Then, he stormed off.

-

Lin cried her eyes out onto Tim’s shoulder, having just gotten off the phone with Woo Hyuk. “He just won’t listen to reason!” she gasped, continuously wiping tears away from her dark, almond shaped eyes.

“I know, I know,” Tim cooed, stroking her hair. “I told you he wouldn’t. He has his mind made up. If you keep this baby, you’ll have to raise it on your own without his help.”

“No, I won’t!” she shouted, looking up at him with determination.

“Lin, didn’t you hear what he-”

“You’ll be here with me to help out!” she interrupted, grabbing his shirt. “You’ve been with me through the whole thing! I know you’ll be with me afterwards, too!”

He smiled weakly and nodded, patting her shoulder. “Of course. I’d never leave you. You’re my best little sister in the world!”

She puffed out her cheeks and said, “I’m not so little anymore! Besides, we’re not related, silly head!”

“No, but you can be my honorary sister, can’t you?” he asked, his smile becoming brighter.

“Yeah, I guess. That kind of title is childish, though…”

“Well, I hear that when you have a baby, it’s like going through a second childhood! Might as well start practicing!”

Lin giggled and wiped the last of her tears away. “So, you think it’s a good idea now that I’m keeping the baby? Last week, you wanted me to have an abortion!”

“I didn’t say that!” he defended, holding his hands up. “I just said I would support you either way! That’s why I’m here! To offer my best friend in the world all the support she needs!”

She grinned and pushed him lightly. “Thanks, big brother!”

“So, when are you getting your last ultra sound?” he asked, putting his hand on her stomach to feel the kicking.

“Next month,” she answered shortly, wishing the time would come sooner for the child to be born. “I can’t wait to see this little bugger!”

“Neither can I! She’s going to be pretty just like her mother!”

“Stop lying!” Lin blushed. “His ugly father will have ruined the gene pool!”

“Oh, come on! The guy can’t be that ugly! Just because you were drunk that night didn’t mean you couldn’t discern between handsome and ooooogly!”

Giggling again, she thought deeply about Woo Hyuk’s appearance. “Actually, he’s pretty hot. If I didn’t know he was a super d*ck, I could go for him. Unfortunately, hot men were made with sh*tty personalities.”

“Hey, what about me!” Tim interjected, sounding rather offended.

“That just proves my point!” she answered jokingly, shoving him lightly.

“Hey!” Tim suddenly shouted, his face alight with understanding. “What about that other guy that was at the house! You know, the nice one!”

“Tony?”

“Yeah! What about him? You think you could go for him?”

“What? No! Look at who he hangs out with!”

Tim nodded slowly, but quickly said, “But he didn’t know what a pr*ck his friend was until now, so…”

“I see what you’re saying,” she muttered, waving the idea away. “But, still… Tony? He looks like a monkey!”

“Really?”

“Well…a hot monkey, but a monkey nonetheless… And would you feel comfortable dating the girl your best friend got pregnant?”

“No, I wouldn’t feel comfortable dating a girl you got pregnant.”

“Tim!”

“Sorry, I couldn’t resist!”

“God, now you’re the d*ck!”

Tim rolled his eyes and coughed. “Back on subject! Yes, if I were Tony in this situation, I’d date you! It’s obvious you need someone in your life, and Woo Hyuk’s not going to be that man! A really man would stand up to the challenge! Only, I can’t, because you’re my little sister.”

“Ew! How sick! Me and you? Bleh!” she yelled, pretending to regurgitate.

“Hey, it could be worse!” he replied, pretending to be hurt. “Anyway, maybe you should talk to Tony some. Maybe he could help you out, you know? I mean, maybe he can help convince Woo Hyuk to at least support you keeping the kid and raising it on your own instead of yelling, ‘ABORTION!’”

“True,” she muttered. “Tim, does it really bother you that you never had a father figure?”

He suddenly became silent as his face fell into a very serious gaze. “Well,” he finally said, “I… It doesn’t bother me as much anymore, but it still hurts that my father didn’t think enough of me to even look for me, you know? We lived in the same house forever, so he didn’t have to do much searching. It was a lot worse growing up, though… It hurt a lot when I went to a friend’s house and met their dad… And heard about father-son activities… It just…hurt.”

Lin nodded slowly, a deep pain pulling her heard down. “So, my child would grow up feeling that way, too…” she muttered, running a hand through her hair.

“Maybe,” he answered, closing his eyes. “Of course, if you got married, which is very likely, I might add, it would be different. There would at least be someone there, unlike with me.”

She nodded again and, too, closed her eyes, thinking about how to raise her child on her own and feeling suddenly doubtful about her decision and wondering if Woo Hyuk was right after all.

Part 5 - My Cell Phone

Two more weeks passed, and Woo Hyuk had been catching h*ll from his two best friends. It was about to drive him crazy.

“Woo Hyuk! You can’t really be serious about this!” Tony exclaimed that Saturday morning in the car. “I mean, it’s your child! Your child! How can you do this?”

He just rolled his eyes and said, “It’s not alive yet. We can still get rid of it.”

“Not alive yet?” Tony repeated, sounding thoroughly disgusted. “The kid kicks! It kicks, Woo Hyuk! I felt it myself!”

“Well, gas kicks, too. Doesn’t mean it’s alive.”

Jae Won gazed out the window and said rather bluntly, “You don’t suddenly become alive because you take a breath.”

Woo Hyuk growled and yelled, “Just shut up! This isn’t your problem, and it’s not mine anymore! Just leave it!” Then, his cell phone began to ring. “Hello?” he answered, sounding a little more annoyed than he had intended.

“Woo Hyuk? This is Lin.”

“D*mn it! How did you get this number?”

“Your dad just bought out the place where Tim works, so he works at the same place you do, now. It’s not that hard to access,” she said lightly.

“I’m getting my number changed. Goodbye, Lin.”

“Wait!” she pleaded. “Just hear me out!”

“I’ve already ‘heard you out,’ and I doubt you’ve changed your mind!”

“Look, let’s just meet and talk this over, okay?” she whispered. “I want to calmly talk with you about this.”

Woo Hyuk glanced to Tony, who was looking rather determinedly back at him. “Fine. Tomorrow at two, okay?”

“Okay! I’ll see you then.”

“Fine.” He hung up and glared at his friend, not feeling pleased at all.

“So, you’re going to meet her?” Tony asked, his eyes shining.

Woo Hyuk only nodded, staring at the road in front of him.

“Maybe you’ll decide to keep the baby, then!” he added enthusiastically

“I doubt it,” was his response.

Jae Won blinked slowly as he said, “Just think about it.”

Woo Hyuk knew Jae Won well enough to know he only spoke when necessary, and 99% of the time, he was right. This must be one of those 1% times… he thought cruelly as he accelerated his speed.

Part 5.2 - My Cell Phone #2 (Listen to Me!)

Lin knocked softly on Woo Hyuk’s door as if expecting it to explode. She started slightly when he opened it and stepped back for her to enter. “Hello…” she greeted weakly.

“Hello. You’re here to talk about that, yes?” he asked, nodding at her stomach.

“Yes… I was hoping to convince you otherwise. You see, I think I have just as much say in this as you, if not, more. I don’t see why you have a problem with me keeping the child and raising it on my own. When I marry, I’ll tell the child that my husband is it’s father.”

“Sure, whatever. Until it finds its birth certificate and sees, ‘Father: Jang Woo Hyuk’ or ‘Father: Unknown.'”

“Woo Hyuk! Please! You must understand how I feel! I love this child, and I want it!” she folded her hands and brought them to her chin, hoping he could somehow understand.

He found he was unable to stare into her eyes and defy her, so he looked away and said, “Listen to me.”

“I’m listening.”

“That kid will…never have a true father. I can never be the father it needs, and another man won’t feel the same connection as a biological father, so he can never be a good substitute. What if it’s a boy? Boys need a man to look up to; a father. Uncles, grandfathers, brothers, cousins, friends, even step-fathers aren’t the same. They can never be the same. If it’s a girl, she’ll still need a daddy to teach her what men should be like to her. Without one, she won’t know what to look for in men and might choose the wrong boy to date. Do you want that to happen to your child?”

Lin looked at the ground and rubbed her elbow uncomfortably. “No, but…”

“Lin, I know you’re hearing and understanding me,” he said as sincerely as he could, still avoiding her gaze. “Surely you know someone who’s grown up without a father? Surely you know how hard it was for that person!”

“Yes, I know…”

“Do you really want to put your child through that?”

“Well, if I can’t keep it, at least someone can adopt it and give it what I can’t…”

Woo Hyuk shook his head and sighed. “It’ll think that you didn’t want it and just gave it away. It’ll wonder, ‘Why wasn’t I good enough for my mother or father? Why didn’t they want me?’ And what if the adoptive parents tell it horrible things you did to it as a baby before giving it up, and so when you find it again, it won’t have anything to do with you?”

“I never thought of that…”

“Of course you didn’t! You were only thinking of yourself, and what you wanted! You were being selfish!”

Lin blinked away her tears and muttered, “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize…”

“I did, though. And I told you what to do, but you wouldn’t listen! You just kept being selfish without thinking about that baby!”

“I’m sorry…”

“Will you listen now?” he pleaded, glad he finally got through to her.

She nodded slowly and began wiping her tears away.

“Just go make an appointment with Doctor Kim. From what I’ve heard from the more, eh, experienced girls at work, he’s the best doctor to see for an abortion. You can find him in the phonebook.”

“Okay… I’ll…I’ll call and let you know when my appointment is. This is the right thing, isn’t it? To make sure it won’t suffer…”

“Of course! Do you want it to grow up thinking it wasn’t loved?”

“No, I don’t…”

Woo Hyuk nodded and placed a hand on her shoulder. “I’ll see you around, then. Give me a call as soon as you know…”

“Alright… I… I just got back from my ultra sound… They took pictures. I haven’t looked at them yet… Do you want to?”

He shook his head and said, “No, it’s best we put this behind us.”

She nodded slowly and turned to leave. “Thank you, Woo Hyuk.”

Those words struck his heart like a cold arrow, and he wondered why he suddenly felt so…wrong. Before he could voice this, if he were even going to, she left the house.

Part 6 - 4:00 Death

Lin twirled the phone in her hand, wondering if she should call or not. Tim was at work, so she couldn’t talk to him. She only had herself to rely on at the moment. “Will it really grow up unhappy?” she asked herself as she stared at the number in the phonebook. “Does not having a father affect a child that much?” Of course, it does! she told herself, slowly dialing the phone. Tim had a very unhappy childhood! At least this way, it won’t be sad…

“Hello?” asked a cool female voice.

“Yes, I’d like to make an appointment…”

“How far along are you?”

“I’m due in a week.”

“A week? Next Saturday?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Lin heard the clacking of a keyboard for a few moments before the lady replied, “Can you come in Wednesday at four?”

“Four in the afternoon?”

“Yes.”

She sighed heavily, running a hand over her stomach. “Yes, ma’am. I can.”

“Doctor Kim will see you then. May I ask your name?”

“Lin. Woo Lin,” she answered, her voice trembling.

“Thank you. Have a nice day.”

Lin hung up and started dialing Woo Hyuk’s number, wondering, again, if she had made the right decision.

-

Tony paid for his coffee and turned to leave the café, certain that his day would be great now that he had his cappuccino. Before he reached the door, a familiar face caught his eye. Glancing at his watch, he made his way over to the booth and sat down with a smile. “Hey, Lin! I didn’t expect to see you here!”

She gazed at him with glazed eyes as she nodded slowly in return. “Hello, Tony.”

Taking no notice of her bizarre behavior, he asked, “So, when are you due?”

“Does it matter?”

“Well, I…” he stuttered, taken aback. “I was just wondering…”

“I’m not having the baby…”

“WHAT?!” he yelled, making the entire café look their way. “Eh, let’s go outside,” he whispered, taking her hand and leading her out the door. “Now, what the h*ll do you mean that you’re not having the baby?”

“I mean…” she started, looking at the concrete of the sidewalk beneath her. “I talked to Woo Hyuk, and he was right all along. I wasn’t thinking about the baby’s future, only myself. I can’t let it grow up unhappy.”

Tony grabbed her shoulders and shook them. “Surely you’ve seen the kid already! Surely you know it’s already a baby, not something to be so easily thrown away!!”

“No, I haven’t seen it… I gave my ultrasound pictures to Woo Hyuk,” she muttered in response.

Wiping his brow, he shook his head and asked, “When are you going to have it done?”

“Today at four.”

“T-To… You mean… Today… Four? This afternoon?”

“Yes.”

Glancing at his watch again, he sighed heavily and called for a taxi.

“Where are you going?” Lin asked, sounding like she really didn’t care.

“To see a friend.” Then, a taxi pulled up and he left, shouting directions to some place on the richer side of town.

-

“WOO HYUK!” came a loud shout from outside as the man being addressed turned off the burner under his instant noodles. Before he could turn to get the door, he heard it burst open and waited as the person stomped up to his face.

“Yes, Tony?” he asked coolly, folding his arms.

“Woo Hyuk, how DARE you convince her to have an abortion!”

“It was her decision.”

“DON’T LIE TO ME! I KNOW YOU DID IT! YOU’RE SUCH A B*STARD!!”

He raised an eyebrow and smirked. “On the contrary, the thing you’re upset over would be the ‘b*stard.’”

“Shut up!” Tony yelled back, stomping his foot. “You have NO idea what you’re doing! You’re killing you’re CHILD! Why not let her have it and then drown it!”

“It’s murder; that’s why.”

“WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?! A couple of hours! Maybe even minutes! Should a few minutes decided if you’re alive or dead, Woo Hyuk?”

“Well, I don’t know, Tony. You see, actually impregnating her, I’m sure, only took a few minutes, so, according to you, yes, it should.”

He slammed his fist against the wall, leaving a rather large dent and said, “Stop being a smart *ss! I can’t believe you want your own child to be killed! Do you know how they do abortions?”

“No, and I don’t care to!” Woo Hyuk retorted, shoving his hands in his pockets.

Tony glanced around the kitchen, ran into the living room, and came back a few minutes later with a large yellow envelope. “Woo Hyuk, look at this!” he demanded.

“What is it?” he asked, opening the envelope and pulling out the papers from inside.

“It’s a teaching aid. Flip them over.”

He did so and saw a blue and black picture of…a baby. A little baby sucking it’s thumb. “What’s this?”

“Ultrasound pictures.”

“Of who? I didn’t know I had any…”

“This is your kid, Woo Hyuk.”

“My…kid?”

Tony nodded slowly and pointed to the top of its head. “See this? The head?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, for an abortion, they make sure the baby is head first in the birth canal. Then, they crush its skull with some instrument. One American doctor once had a camera in there to film the process, and it showed the baby actually screamed in pain, though no sound could be heard. See, Woo Hyuk? It’s alive! It can feel pain!”

He blinked slowly and stared at the picture, starting to feel very ill. “They…crush its skull? Then, what?”

“Well, they kinda… suck out the brains and then take out the baby…Throw away the body…Maybe use it for research or something…” Tony seemed as though he could throw up at any minute, and Woo Hyuk imagined he did as well.

“Are you…sure?”

“Fairly.”

“And this is…legal?”

“Yes, because people think the same way you do. They think it’s not alive…”

Woo Hyuk shook his head, not wanting to believe what he was being told, but looking at the picture of the baby, his baby, sucking its thumb, he knew it to be true. “I…I told Lin… I convinced her…”

Tony patted his back and said, “It’s okay. Her appointment’s at four! Maybe you can convince her otherwise.”

He nodded numbly, slowly gazing at his watch. It took a few moments for the time to register in his brain. “It’s…3:45... WHAT?! 3:45!! TONY!! It takes half an hour to get there!”

“Not if I drive,” he answered, grabbing Woo Hyuk’s keys. “Let’s go. I’ll take sidewalks if I have to!”

The two men darted out the door and to the car, trying their best to save the thing that one of them wanted erased from the earth just a few moments before.

Part 7 - Goodbye, My Child...

Tony sped down the roads, swerving left and right as he dodged cars. It was amazing that he wasn’t pulled over by a cop, and he could only credit that to God. “Thanks, God,” he whispered, taking another sharp turn that put him on the sidewalk for a few moments, barely missing some pedestrians.

“Tony! It’s three minutes ‘til four!” Woo Hyuk shouted desperately, constantly thrusting his body forward as if to make the car go faster.

“I’m trying! I’m trying! We’re almost there!” he replied, turning on the road the where the clinic was located.

-

Lin walked into her room and put on the surgical gown provided. “Just wait a few moments. Doctor Kim will be here any minute,” the nurse said calmly, unaware, or uncaring, of Lin’s mental struggle.

She sat on the table and looked around. There was some metallic instrument that she really couldn’t identify, some sort of vacuum-like object, and a biohazard bag on a tray beside her. “I hope they don’t use that stuff on me…” she muttered weakly, leaning back as the doctor entered.

“Hello, I’m Doctor Kim Jun Jin, and this is my nurse, Lee Monica. How are you doing today?”

“F-f-fine…” Lin lied, her entire body trembling.

“Is this your first abortion?” he wondered allowed, watching as the nurse prepared the patient for the procedure.

“Yes, and I hope it’s my only one,” Lin replied honestly, suddenly feeling very embarrassed at exposing herself to the rather cute doctor.

“Well, don’t worry. The procedure is very simple. First, we’re going to induce labor. Then, we’ll remove the fetus. Finally, we’ll dispose of it.”

“D-dispose?”

“Yes. Don’t worry. We do this everyday. Now, just relax as we insert the IV.”

-

A few minutes later, due to very heavy traffic, Tony pulled into the parking lot of the clinic, squealing his tires very loudly. “Let’s go!” he shouted to the already empty passenger seat. “Woo Hyuk?”

The man he called for was already at the door of the building, wanting to find the mother of his child as quickly as possible.

“Excuse me?” called the receptionist, sounding a little surprised. “May I have your names, please?”

“Where’s Woo Lin?!” they both responded at once, slamming their hands on the counter.

“I’m sorry, but I can’t-”

Woo Hyuk struck his fist against the desk, ignored the resounding crack, and hissed, “Tell me where she is!”

The receptionist nodded and typed for a minute on her computer before answering weakly, “Down in Room 13. But you can’t-”

Before she finished her sentence, the men had darted down the hall and were eagerly searching for the specified room. “Here!” Tony exclaimed, grabbing Woo Hyuk by the shoulder.

Woo Hyuk ran forward, opened the door, and dashed into the room, ignoring the shocked stares as he took in what was happening before him. The doctor was crouched over the lower half of the mother of his child, a silver object in his hands that looked as though it were about to go somewhere it certainly did not belong. The doctor told the nurse to call security and began to insert the instrument but didn’t make it. Woo Hyuk leapt across the room, threw his fist as hard as he could in the man’s jaw, and kicked him into a wall, smiling cruelly at the satisfying smack he made. “Lin, are you okay?” he asked, still watching the unconscious man like a hawk.

“Y-yeah, fine,” she replied, sounding rather confused. “What…? Why did you…?”

“Lin, I was wrong,” he admitted, finally turning to face her. “Listen, that is a baby in there. That’s…our son. And…and I want to…be a father to it. Lin, I want…”

“It…It won’t grow up…unhappy? That whole thing you told me…was a big, fat lie? Just to make me…kill my child?” she muttered as though trying to put everything together.

“Yes, but I came to save it! Lin, I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize-”

“You b*stard!” she shrieked shoving him against the wall. “I hate you!! You almost made me kill my own child! I don’t want you anywhere near me or him, you understand?”

“Lin, I’m sorry! I-”

“Shut up! I’m so p*ssed at you, I could kill you right now! Just get away…from…” Suddenly, she collapsed back on the table, clutching her stomach. “Ah! D*mn contractions! This whole thing made me forget about them for a second!”

“Actually, they’re just really far apart,” Ms. Lee stated, walking forward. “So, you’re having the baby?”

Lin nodded as she gritted her teeth with pain. Woo Hyuk stood beside her, not wanting to miss the opportunity to prove he was different and should be able to be a real father.

A little while later, a bouncing baby boy was born to Woo Lin, and Ms. Lee began filling out the birth certificate. “Mother: Woo Lin. Father: …Sir, what’s you’re name?”

“Unknown,” Lin answered the same time Woo Hyuk said, “Jang Woo Hyuk.”

“Eh, so, Jang Woo Hyuk. Son’s name?”

Lin glared at the man next to her and said, “Woo Tim.”

“Tim?”

“He’s named after someone special,” she explained, rocking her son gently.

Soon, Lin, Tony, Woo Hyuk, and Ms. Lee were leaving the building. Before any of them could ask why the nurse was leaving with them, she said, “I quit. After that, there’s no way I can watch an abortion again.”

Lin walked to her car, not sure how she was going to drive with a baby in her lap. Woo Hyuk followed her and leaned against the door before she could open it.

“Move, b*stard.”

“He’s the b*stard,” Woo Hyuk replied, pointing to his son.

“Shut up, you-”

“And I don’t like it,” he finished, standing straight and attempting to run a hand over his son’s head, but failed as Lin pulled away.

She glared at him and said coolly, “I thought I told you to stay away from my son.”

“He’s mine, too! And I don’t want him to be a b*stard! Look, Lin… There’s only one right thing to do here. I think we should get married…for Tim, there.” He smiled warmly as he gestured to the baby in front of him that he had yet to hold.

“Are you…proposing?”

“Kinda, yeah.”

“Well, shove it up your *ss, ‘cause there’s NO way I’m marrying a jerk like you that would make me nearly kill this precious thing! Goodbye, Woo Hyuk! This is the only time you’ll get to see this little guy, so take a good look!” She shoved him aside with her shoulder and climbed in her car, showing him the finger.

Woo Hyuk could only watch her drive away with his jaw dropped. “Tim!” he called, knowing his son would never know who he was. “Tim, I love you! Don’t ever think otherwise!”

Tony patted his friend’s shoulder and shook his head. “Let’s go home. At least you know…he’s alive.”

“Yeah,” he replied, blinking away his tears.

-

Speeding was such a wonderful release; especially on a motorcycle. It had been three months, and Woo Hyuk hadn’t seen little Tim since the day he was born. The only thing that could calm him down when he went through spurts of anger, like now, was speeding through town on his motorcycle. Tony and Jae Won pleaded with him not to go out while he was so distraught, but he wouldn’t listen. He needed his release.

“I can’t believe her!” he shouted, swerving in and out of traffic. “She can’t keep my son from me! He’s half mine! I’d take this to court if judges weren’t so d*mn biased against fathers! D*mn!”

He didn’t see the red light as he screamed his objections of the court system, nor could he break in time to miss the oncoming truck…

-

White… It was…so white… Woo Hyuk blinked his eyes and peered around the room blearily, not sure where he was. “What’s this? Where the h*ll am I?”

“You’re in the hospital,” a deep male voice answered. “I’m Doctor Park. Do you remember what happened?”

He blinked for a few minutes, taking in what he just heard. “I was…riding around. I was…upset. Then…” Pausing for a moment, he scrunched his eyebrows. Then, a loud scream burst from his lips. “My side!”

“Yeah, you’re severely injured. Nothing fatal. You’ll just be in here for a while. Are you married?”

Woo Hyuk raised an eyebrow and shook his head ‘no,’ wondering just what the doctor was going with his line of questioning.

“What a shame. What a shame…”

“What’s a shame? What?”

“Mr. Jang, you had a wreck on your motorcycle. Yes, you sustained injury to your side, but also…elsewhere.”

“Else…where?”

“Let’s just say…Mr. Jang, you’ll never be able to have children.”

“I…what…?”

The doctor shook his head, clicking his tongue with disappointment. “You can’t have children anymore. You see…”

Woo Hyuk stopped listening, not wanting to know what happened to his… ‘man land.’ He just stared at the ceiling blankly, unable to believe what he just heard.

-

They looked so happy, Lin and her friend, Tim. The little boy was waddling around in his walker, giggling loudly. This all just hurt Woo Hyuk deeply. There was his only son…The only offspring he’d ever have, and he couldn’t even speak to him, much less hold him. “Tim, I love you,” he whispered, taking one last look before walking down the road to his car.
