Roh Says N.Korea Unlikely to Collapse 2004-12-05 18:59:55 Updated. President Roh Moo-hyun says there is little possibility that North Korea's regime will suddenly collapse. Roh, currently in Poland for the second leg of his three-nation European tour, made the remarks Saturday during a meeting with Korean residents and businessmen there. During the meeting, the South Korean President said China has been providing aid in many ways to prevent the North’s sudden collapse. Roh said China does not want North Korea to break down partly out of concern that millions of refugees would flood into its territory, which he said, could also cause serious problems for South Korea. The president said the North Korea is also aware of the fact that its nuclear weapons program does not ensure its security and is unhelpful to receiving economic assistance from the global community. Regarding concerns over the United States adopting a hard-line stance on North Korea, Roh said there is no alternative to dialogue in resolving the North's nuclear problem. He added that security in South Korea should be the first consideration in handling the North's nuclear issue.#AMR# //Seoul |
