BoA's PR Work for Patriot Film Evokes Sensitive Reaction in Japan 2004/09/13 BoA's promotion of the film "Thomas Ahn Jung-geun" has brought about a sensitive reaction in Japan. Nikkan Sports, a major Japanese sports paper, in a Friday article entitled, "BoA Does PR in Korea for Movie on Ito Hirobumi's Assassin," said the 17-year-old BoA was doing promotion work for the film "Thomas Ahn Jung-geun," which tells the story of Ahn's assassination of former Japanese statesman Ito Hirobumi in Harbin, China, quoting a Wednesday piece ran on Chosun.com. The film debuts Friday. The Nikkan said BoA, along with the group Dongbang-shingi held a special preview of the film at Seoul Theater and planned to contribute W50 million (Y5 million) to an association commemorating Ahn. The association receiving the donation is giving BoA a letter of thanks and honorary membership, the paper reported. The article referred to Ahn as an assassin, and this would suggest that BoA's promotion of the movie and her sizable donation would not be taken well in Japan. In particular, with BoA at the summit of popularity in Japan and No. 1 on the Orikon Chart, her film production work is receiving even more attention. #AMR# //Seoul comments: remember Japan invaded the Koreas for 50 years. So there is a LOT of tension between these now three nations. |

sooo.....this is a film about a korean guy who assassinated a japanese official in china.... not knowing the details of the story, i dont see why japanese would think BoA*, just by promoting it, advocates it. if it does, BoA*'s PR people would know better than to have her do this, at a time when she is so big in japan, perhaps opening a wound some people have there about the films subject matter. that being said, i'd be glad to sit next to BoA* to watch this, with a big bucket of popcorn, and give a fair and balanced review. hehe |
