this is an email sent from my school: W32.Sasser.B.Worm A new worm, W32.Sasser.B.Worm is making it's way onto campus via the internet. As a worm, this virus does not require the user to click on a infected file or email, but instead spreads itself through open Internet connections. If you are running Windows 2000, NT or XP and your machine is not up to date with the latest Windows patches and antivirus settings, you are vulnerable to infection (Windows 98 machines are not affected). Running the removal tool without patching the vulnerability results in immediate re-infection. If you have become infected with Sasser, before fixing your system, you will want to do the following for easy removal, and prevent re-infection: * Change the date on your machine to 1 day prior. This will prevent the machine from shutting down at random, short intervals. To do this, double click on the time on your toolbar at the bottom right of your screen. * Download and install Microsoft Security Update 835732. A link is provided here, download the patch that matches your operating system. <http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-011.mspx>http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-011.mspx * Then run the Removal tool provided by Symantec: <http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxSasser.exe>http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxSasser.exe Additional information on the W32.Sasser.B.Worm is available here: <http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sasser.b.worm.html>http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sasser.b.worm.html Instructions on using the tool are available here: <http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sasser.removal.tool.html>http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sasser.removal.tool.html As always, be sure to keep up to date on all Microsoft patches and updates. If you have additional questions or concerns, for staff and faculty please contact the Help Desk at x83555 or for students the Student Help Desk at x86495. Rina, Sasser doesn't effect the Apple system, but I did read where there was an Applie virus that just came out a week or so ago. So you might check their site for Antivirus stuff. I use Eudora and Mozilla, here, for the same reasons. ((Thanks Valerie!)) //Seoul |

Yes. TechTV = very helpful. I watch too much of that channel a day. But they are a very good and informative source for things that are tech. Great entertainment also. |
