Edwin, Sincerely, this was one of those films that changed my life. Now you just watched it. Let's discuss what your favorite scenes were, and what your favorite lines were. (Everyone's welcome!) Basically the overall theme of the film, to me was to not be average. To "press the envelope". From the film to "Sound my most barbaric yelp from the rooftops of the world". The films teaches us about bondings, about being outside of your normal "league", and how to excel. I was chiding Edwin about his poetry, mentioning from the film, the line "The cat sat on the mat" to which Robin Williams replied, that poems can be made of simple things just to not let them be average. (Edwin has in him what world class poets are made from. We must not let him loose site of that! I'm not. I can tease with poetry, make people laugh, but I'm not world class.) Unforgettable lines include "I think this thing was made to fly!" (Remember the scene with the desk set?) If you haven't seen this film, please rent it. (Blockbuster is a good place!!) There is nothing bad in the film except one suicide, which is a very integral part of the film. And the reason for it's PG rating. //Seoul |

I watched it years back in highschool. Great movie, but I remember almost nothing about it except for "Carpe Diem" if that's where that came from. If it didn't then I don't remember anything else about it. |

It's worth renting again. "Carpe Diem" is Latin, for "Capture or Sieze the Day". And it is from the film. //Seoul |

I'm speechless, Vic. I don't know what to say. Still, i will try my best not to be ordinary, to look at the world from a different perspective, and to be unigue. Thank you, my friend. As for the movie, yeah, loved it. Favortie moments: -One of my favorite moments were when Robin Williams tells the students the poem "Gather your rose, while ye may", i know it doesn't go like that, that's what i remember. -Another one is when he tells his students that sometimes you have to look at the world from a different point of view in which the students start getting on top of his desk. -When Robin Williams told the students to rip out the first page of the book. -When Robin's out in the courtyard with the students and they're doing a sort-of military walking. -The end. When all the students start getting on top of their desks. Want to know something? I was on my bed when i saw that part, what did i do? I was like "Not to be left out" and got on top of my bed. I felt, how can i put it? It was liberating. lol And, Angelo, i'm glad you liked the movie. But, out of it's all memorable moments...you had to think of the part where the students had a porn magazine? Even i had forgotten that till you reminded it to me. lol |

Thanks for the kind words, Edwin. And my comments are all true! As to Angelo, don't worry about him. He's still tweeked 'cause I erased his copy of "Alena Does Allentown". (From last nites (pulled) KMC in ... thread) As I said before, He's upset 'cause the film featured scenes from the K-Mart parking lot where he was baptised, the elementary school, when he spent the best three years of his lift getting through first grade, and the field where he had is first crush on a sheep..... He'll be out of balance, until the Havana Tobacco and Film company sends him another copy... Back to the film, the line about coming to the end of one's life, and discovering that one hasn't lived at all, especially affected me, as well. Not in a somber way, but when you look at each day as possibly being your last, you tend to live differently. //Seoul |

Oh, that explains it. LOL!!!!! My bad, bro. :) Yes, if you actually knew you aren't going to be here tomorrow, you'd probably live trying to live as much as possible or give up living. One other part that captivated me, well not exactly. It's just that i find it shocking how some parents are so strict, they want their children to do what they want and they will not change it no matter what. I know Ethan Hawk's roomate killing himself was a sad moment in the story, but i can't help but to feel like "Take that old man!". He wanted him to be this and do that, never actually listening to what his son loved to do which was acting. That's what parents like that get, sad but true. At least, before he died, he got to live doing what he loved the most. Like Vic said, that's why "Carpe Diem" is the theme of the movie" and why the poem "Gather your rose while ye may" are one of the most profounding lessons in the movie. Vic, again, i thank you. |

I'm not so sure I disagree with the parents pushing their kids. Yeah, it makes the kids a little uncomfortable, for the time being, but had they not pushed the Ethan Hawks charactor, ("Todd") what, then would he have become? He would have probably finished high school, in ok terms, maybe gotten married, at an early age, and worked at something dull, like a shoestore, or factory. (A life of quiet desparation) But after a class with Mr. Williams at the helm, he would not have had the excuse to do that. The particular school, if you recall from the opening scene, had an overwhelming acceptance of it's students to Ivy League schools. From there, he would have probably graduated from Yale, Harvard, Georgetown, etc, and become a doctor, or quickly become president of a successful company. And he paid what? Four uncomfortable years, in high school. A pretty good trade, if you ask me. //Seoul |

You're a hopeless romantic and will do anything to get the girl of your dreams - even read poetry to them in front of their class! But you have to control yourself sometimes - especially if there's someone else in the picture. |

Ummmm, let's just say it's the Jewish "male" ceremony, and leave it at that OK? As to Knox, do you remember the quote about him being driven by another ??? (referring to his male-ness)? Yup, that sounds like you, buddy! I had a crush on Alexandra Powers for years. Was she ever in any other movies since DPS? //Seoul |

I did a search on Alexandra Powers and it mentions the movies she's done, but doesn't mention DPS. I think there might be two ladies with the same name. |

Posted Image Alexandra Powers (Chris Noel) Her first role came in the TV film The Day After. She also had a small role in Mask (with Eric Stoltz, not Jim Carrey) and the TV series L.A. Law and 21 Jump Street. After DPS she starred in The Seventh Coin opposite Peter O'Toole and had small roles in The Player and Rising Sun. In 1994 she played Tonya Harding in the TV movie Tonya & Nancy: The Inside Story. Recent roles have been in Bruce Willis' Last Man Standing, the Walter Matthau / Jack Lemmon comedy Out to Sea, and the tv movie Storm. She's also been on the following movies: • One h*ll Of a Guy (2002) • Out to Sea (1997) • Last Man Standing (1996) • Rising Sun (1993) • The Seventh Coin (1993) • The Player (1992) • Cast a Deadly Spell (1991) • Dangerous Pursuit (1990) • Mask (1985) But, it doesn't mention DPS, weird. Hope the brings you good memories, Vic. :) |

Yup, that's definitely her! That picture even looks like it was taken from DPS. wow! Other memorable lines: "Gotta Do More, Gotta Be More" "We bring together this meeting of the Deat Poets Society....." (Remember the cave? Angelo's favorite memory from the film...) "...was a h*ll raiser" (referring to Robin Williams' charactor. "Yeah, but SHE's in London..." "I know where that cave is, It's beyond the trees..." "Call me....Newanda" Quite a film, wasn't it? |
