I’m sure you guys have seen the new trend of American artists emerging. Artists like Joss Stone, John Maher, Toby Lightman, and Jason Mraz, just to name a few. Some people claim they’re singing “real” music. Now, while the music industry has changed along with Pop music scene, they have yet to do a 360 degrees turn. I mean, these artists are singing really good music, but their image it’s no different than N*Sync, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and The Backstreet Boys way back when they started in 1999. I mean, all these new artists are beautiful looking people, in fact Joss Stone and Toby Lightman are hot looking ladies. I’m not complaining about their music or their look, I love it, it’s just that it’s all the same, just a minor few fixes.

This means that, as long as you got talent and you’re beautiful or hot, you’ll make it. Then again, is it such a crime to be beautiful and talented? The answer is no.

My friend is in love with John Mayer. I think it was because the lyrics to his songs are farfetch from the other singers. I don't really like him, but my friend love him so I was force to listen to his music, which aren't that bad.

Jason Mraz, he's a okay singer. I listened to "The Remedy" and after two times of listening to that song, I got annoyed by it.

I haven't heard of Toby Lightman but I'm sure that I will soon.

Now, Joss Stone. A white girl that sings soul music, I think that's really cool, not to sound racist or anything. I've listened to one of her song, I think it was her single but I can't remember the title. She has a soft tone to her voice, but sometimes it feels like she can't breathe.

Over all, they are okay singers. Not the best, though.

Edwin, I hate to be a moron, but exactly what is your point??????? Are you saying that "changes are now the norm"?? umm, that's not news. How many people now listen to classical music, yet a century ago, that was all there was. What is your point??

I understand what you're saying. I mean, they say they are something very different, but the images will be the same no matter what.... that is the problem with pop culture these days- everything is focused upon looks........

No point at all, Vic. Just felt like talking about it, to see what others thought, if they agree with me or not.

By the way, thanks guys for your replies. :)

Well, thing is hot looking talents are a rarity in the business now days. There's no crime in being beautiful or talented, very appealing attributes that should be mutually appreciated IMO. The crime is in that not all recording artists consider the possibility that they may lack one of the two...talent. Too many good looking people, including actors and models that are trying to get into the music industry, and as someone already mentioned, looks do sell, which is unfortunate for truly talented people out now who don't look like Britney and just as unfortunate for talentless beauties who'll not only be scrutinized by snobby critics, but critics who do know their sh!t, but who may never have a second chance at redeeming themselves in any field once they've failed to follow up, too much time taking care of the appearance that helped them rise, and too little time learning anything about the trade they are currently successful in, music.

Meanwhile, I'm a big Hilary Duff fan, but she's a good example of that talentless beauty who should stick to acting.
