Let's face it, a lot of first time artist aren't that talented. Most of them get a chance at stardom just because is something we've never seen before. A fine example is Britney Spears. Since her debut, there's been tons of girls that have come out afterwards and where are they? The only one up to Spears' pace would be Christina and even so, Britney is far more popular and known around the world. First time artists like these just keep riding the same wave they arrived in and because they were the first, they're still here. This, i think is unfair, because it shuts the door for those who are truly talented cause it gives record labels a mirror to imitate on their artists and an image to capitalize on. Even though Britney is talented as an entertainer, lately, she just keeps using controversy after controversy to get attention. I think she might be running out of amunition. I mean, where does she goes from here? How much sexier can she get? What next scandle will she unveil to the media? I think she's gotten too lucky and because of who she is, how far she has come, and being that she was the first of the female-bubblegum pop invasion... people forgive her? Maybe. My point is that a lot of first time artists aren't necessarily that talented, so they keep riding the same wave, preventing true talented artists from emerging. I see that as a problem. I mean, it's already hard to make it in the music business, it's ever harder due to a lot of first time artists cause people will forgive those who came first, but not copycats. |

I think I understand what you're saying, but I'm not sure...... that.... uhhh..... there isn't anything new, it's just everyone copying each other and new aritsts that do have talent aren't recognized because.....?? I am confused now.... I don't udnerstand what you're saying ^^; |

I agree with some of what you say, Edwin. It's just the companies in the music industry stick with what works because it is what brings in the money. Using the example of Britney Spears, she gained the fan base from her beginnings and kept them as she continued in the business and her fans in turn grew with her and accepted whatever it was she did, which continues her career. As a singer...seriously not the best. As an entertainer...she pulls it off well. And she is a good example of that it doesn't take talent to stay alive in this business. Sad, but true. But then again, if you look how it is in other parts of the world, you see many differences. Like in Korea, there are great singers, but there is an emphasis on how well a dancer they are (in some recent kpop areas) and it's geared to particular audiences (sometimes). In Japan, there is clearly more emphasis on singing. You don't see the elaborate dance numbers (nothing wrong with those). You see music done by entertainers for every age group (Morning Musume for kids and teens and Amuro Namie for an older generation as an example). Similarities are there, too. Take HOT for example. As a group they were very succesful. They're not together anymore, but still in the business doing their own things. Do you thing they're closing the door on new comers to the industry? Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. At least they have the talent to back up what they do (music making, branching out in styles, vocal and dancing talent, etc). Also for some, it's for the love of the money. For others, the love of music. If there are those in the industry holding others back (and there are), then people like myself don't stand much of a chance when we get our starts. ...and my brain is done for now. |

I know exactly what you're saying, Edwin Oppa. You're right, first time artists make it big because they express something new to the world, and that's why they're so interesting. It takes talent to do that, it truly does. I give partial credit to Britney for being able to do something like that. And yes, it is true, sadly. Even more talented people do not get recognized, and that's not fair. That's why we all have to keep in mind that the entertainment business is very hard to get into. It takes a lot of money, skill, and determination for the most part. I have a huge open door in front of me to become a model. I have that chance. I've been to the open calls, I've gotten call backs, I've gotten invited to the conventions and all that stuff, but I won't walk through that door. Why? Well, for one, there's no guarantee that I'll get an agent, or a holder for that matter. Two, even if I do make it, then I have to audition, which means that if I don't make it in the audition, all that money goes to waste. Three, I could get an agent, make the audition and model for a company. From then on, it's a brutal battle to be the best, and be the best always. It's a tough place to be, and I really don't want to be there. But I have to admit, I am trying out for the entertainment world (acting to be precise). There are first artists there that have made it big, like Hillary Duff. She moved from Texas to Hollywood when she was very young, and in four years she was able to make it big. And look now! She's the most popular teen in the business. Next to her, we have Amanda Bynes and Frankie Munez. They're all first artists, but in the same category, if you catch my drift. I guess the only thing you can do is guarantee something. For example, have a backup plan. My backup plan, if I don't make it in the entertainment world, I'm going to join the Air Force and become a helicopter pilot, move to D.C., and pilot helicopters for a hospital or something. That's my plan. No one can guarantee you anything, but you can guarantee yourself something. It's a tough world, but talent isn't everything. |
She's back, the one and only, HyesungLover.

Well put, all of you. I guess the only reason why i find myself complaining about this subject is because simply, i don't like Britney that much anymore. And instead of making my comment in general, i just targeted her when most Korean artists are similar to her like you mentioned, Arnell. Yet, i don't dislike them nor do i find myself tired of them. I made this thread with a subject title in general, when in fact, i was only talking about Britney. It's okay, lady Tracy. It took all of you guys' replies to realize what i truly wanted to say. :) And, i'm impressed, Dongsang. I mean, your back up plan. I'm proud of you! :) |
