So in my Korean class, yesterday, they decide to have a picnik. So we gather everybody at a local park, and they start with hamburgers, and hotdogs. (Remember, there are a lot of kids in this class.) Somebody brings out a big plate of Kimbap. Now this doesn't looks like the stuff I reported on last week in Trivia #8. as it is flat disks, about the size of a silver dollar, and maybe 1/2" (1cm) thick. I am told to grab a set of chopsticks and toss one entire piece into my mouth. ("NO WAY!" I think, because of the size) But I see a girl, maybe one-third my size grab one, and GRUNCH away it goes! So I try. It was totally scrumptious! Delicious. The outer wrap is seaweed, there is a lot of rice, but a lot of other good stuff inside, as well! Next, they bring out something that is pronounced "Pe OH gee". It is a marinated beef, with some fruits, that is cooked on a piece of tin-foil, on the BBQ, with mushrooms, and green beans and other goodies added. This is totally food from heaven. I have never in my life had anything more tastier than this. OMG!!!! Why there are not more fat Koreans in Korea with this sort of food, is beyond me! Finally they brought out Kimchi. I'm told that there are many different ways to make this, I forgot to ask how this particular batch was made, but it was wonderful. (Kimchilover, I now understand where you got that title from!!) In conclusion, Not only does Korea make a) Excellent pop music, B) Extremely pretty young women, (the guys looks like toads) c) excellent consumer electrnics, but now they top my list for food. If you ever have a chance to try a Korean reataurant, DO IT!!!!!!! Your reporter in one COLD Las Vegas! //The Seoul Survivor! |

I'm really sorry, David. Narrow-thoughted-ness is an awful thing. Your folks are assuming that all of South East Asia, is like the Philippines, where SOME (NOT ALL) folks eat dog, and that is always the result of extreme poverty. So your folks probably think, that all food from the area is like that crap from Panda Express, which is tolerable, but about as interesting as McDonalds, for quality. I don't remember seeing Korean restaurants in the Reno area when I was there, but with the International Market, near the Peppermill, and Manila-Hong Kong, over by Lowe's there must be a few somewhere. It would definitely be worth sneaking off, to try some. I would FedEx you some, but I'm sure your folks would not be happy about that..... //Seoul |

kimbap is delicious, ne? ^^ Pil-go-gi is also really good~! My mom makes it some time.... she's not Korean ^^; But I looooove it!!! It's so good too~! One of my favorite foods..... it's oh so good.... and of course... kimchi.... my favorite food~! <3 There are a lot of kinds...I like the spicy kind best ^___^ hehe.... another food you might want to try is jja jja myun (? ionno if thats right.... but it's the black noodles)... thats another food i loooove eating at Korean reastraunts.... Korean food is so yummy.... even the rice is good haha
That's not entirely accurate.... Korean people DO eat dog, it is actually an exquisite dish (so I'm told... I've never eaten it >_<)... I have quite a few Korean friends who say they used to eat it in Korea quite often, and it's really not all that different from eating steak. It's more of a culture thing, since we view dogs as friends and find that sort of thing discusting. But I've been told, that much like cows are raised (we raise cows to be slaughtered and eaten), it is the same with dogs (they raise dogs). ANYWAY.... thats still a really biased stereotype.... to say all asians eat it cause they don't.... <_< Hopefully you'll get a chance to eat Korean food sometime, David ^^ |

Thanks Kimchi, I learned something here! But eating dog as a delicacy, versus as a way of staying alive for the next few hours is entirely different. Thanks for your comments!!! As to cows, they are considered a sacred animal in India, so McDonalds franchisees in India, make a vegetarian burger, instead! //Seoul |

Hee Hee Hee, I am surrounded by Korean restaurants. Probably 50 to 100 within a 10 mile radius. And one of the best is within walking distance. My biggest problem is deciding which one I want to go to. |
