Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

A long long time ago, in Cascadia, a very strange child was born. He was small, very skinny, his eyes were dark as obsidian and his skin as white as alabaster. His father was a weathly merchant, and his mother a nobleman's daughter. He was a smart child, and liked to spend spent much of his time in his father's extensive library. He did not like to go outside during the day, due to the fact that his skin would burn if he did, leaving him in pain for several days. He did, however, love to go outside at night, or on cloudy days. If he did go outside he wore heavy, dark clothes and stayed in the shade.

This boy, named Shepard, was very fond of faerie stories, and he loved to read them. In the course of his readings, he found a myth that surprised him greatly. It spoke of pale skinned people, who could float through walls, and could move almost silently. They were black of eye, and white of hair. He asked his father for many years if Ghasts were real, and after several years, he was given an answer. Ghasts were real, and Shepard and his father were members of this race. There was, however, an exeption. They were not full ghasts, they were half ghasts, they relied on magic to transform their bodies to their ghost like forms.

With this knowledge, came a sudden realization. He would outlive all his friends, all his lovers, and almost everything. He became depressed, and stopped interacting with almost everyone. He stayed inside, and began to have horrible dreams. He dreamt of horrible creatures, ones from legends, he dreamt of a tall, spindly man with no face. He did not sleep, he did not eat, for the longest time. He sat in his room, and stared at the wall. After a long, long time, he finnaly came out of his room, and began to speak again. He spoke with his mother only, and no one else. They spoke of many things, but mostly his dreams. She told him they were not real, and he said they were. After much discussion, Shepard relaxed, and stopped having his dreams.

When he finnally began to speak to his father again, Shepard learned the Ghast language, and their ways. He learned that most half ghasts used enchanted cloaks to help them shift. He was told that these cloaks were rare, and cost much money. He was dissapointed, and made a plan that one day he would find such a cloak. He learned that most ghasts were employed as spies, and that his father used to be one. He made another plan, and even more secret one, that he would become a spy, even against his father's and mother's disapproval. He began to practice, gathering information about Cascadians.

After many years of life, Shepard's mother died. He knew that this was only the begining of his sorrows. Soon, his father left him, telling him that life was too much to bare alone. Shepard later discovered he had found a wife, and had several sons. Shepard's father never told his new wife about his old son, and never came to see him. Shepard grew angry, and left Cascadia. He made his way to Istan City, and soon began to spy for people. He became wealthy, and became a well known merchant. He owned a large house, and owned many things, but not the thing he wanted; his cloak.

On one, run-of-the-mill mission-spying on a noble-he caught a glimpse of a creature of myth. He saw a cloaked in darkness, hooded, with long arms made of dull black metal. Shepard was shocked, he knew this man was none other than The Hooded Man. He began researching other stories, much like he did in his youth, and began to search for them. He sold all of his posessions, and became a traveler. In order to disguise himself, he took on the guise of a shepherd, and soon became known as The Shepherd, by those he saw him.
