History In a small village, on the cliffs of the Moonsea, in a small hut, a woman named Ann gave birth to the son of Asher; William Fisher. It was a poor town, inhabited solely by fishermen and blacksmiths. Asher Fisher was, as his name suggests, a fisherman and raised his sons; Will, Josiah and J to be the same. Ann was a midwife, and a tailor, and anything else that could bring in a little bit of money. They owned a small sailboat, large enough for three people and a barrel for the fish. Will was always an odd boy, shaving his head whenever hair began to grow, and covering his bald head with a black knit sailors cap. He would stand on the edge of the cliffs for hours on end, staring out at the ocean, looking deep into the clouds. Asher and his family had a secret that they kept from the rest of the village. Will's father was a shifter, a skinwalker, a shapechanger. All his sons had inherited the gift, and all but one of his sons could shift into any form they wanted or needed to. Will did not have the concentration, or the focus to change. He could shift into the form of a dog, crow, otter and cat. For these forms he sacrificed hours of his life of meditation, training, and focus. When he finally could shift, he needed to focus on the form he was going to become, unlike his brothers who simply willed their change to happen. This caused a slight rift in the family, Will and Jacob often got into arguments, but Josiah (the eldest son) kept both of his brothers in line. Soon Will grew to be a young adult. He hopped around the bars, pubs, inns, and gradually got into trouble in those places. He would get into fights, relieve himself in the wrong places, and generally cause a little havoc. On one particular occasion, when he was far from sober, he began to urinate on a guard. Now, this guard, who happened to be captain of the guards, would most likely had sent him on his way with a few rough words. But Will, hearing those rough words, proceeded to beat the guard with his tankard. The next morning Will woke up chained to a cart, headed for the Cascadian Prison. He was stuck in a cell with a belligerent youth named Aidan Archer. They became friends, and soon Will was released. He went back to The Ruined City, and found work on the docks. He first worked as a deckhand, and slowly moved up in status to quartermaster. He would always return after a voyage to The Broken Strings, and then go home for a short while. One night at The Broken Strings, he met a beautiful woman named Marie. They became fast friends, then lovers, then husband and wife. They had a daughter named Adalia, and they lived in a small house on the cliffs of the Moonsea. After several happy years of marriage, Marie died of a strange disease, leaving him and his daughter alone. He loved his daughter, and did not leave the mainland. Adalia and Will often went to Norwood, to walk among the trees and the light. On one such occasion they happened upon a strange house. Against Will's better judgment, Adalia went in, and she never returned. The house was inhabited by rabid Woodelves, who had lost all vestiges of sanity, and in that moment, so did Will. Will killed all the inhabitant of the Elf House, and then wept over his daughter's broken body for three days. He was found by a group of hunters, who buried his daughter under a tall oak, next to the lake, and burned the house with the elven corpses, saying the proper burial prayers for each. The hunters brought Will to a strange building, where the howls of the insane could be heard ringing through the halls. Will spent a few years there, sitting in silence in his room. After those years, Josiah came to see him. He said that he would take him home, and Will said nothing. Will was brought back to his childhood home, and sat in a stupor for several more months. Finally he began to speak, and to return to his old self. He went to the Istan, for guidance from his elders. His father's great uncle told him to go to sea, and he would soon find clearness of mind. He soon went back to sea, which helped greatly in his recovery. On his several voyages he had heard stories of a strange island, one with inhabitants that new magics so strange, and could sail better than any man, and new more about the stars than still others. His curiosity was peaked, and he soon began gathering these tales. He did much research, and soon had collected what he thought must be the truth. He went back to Cascadia to find the charts he needed. and found something he did not expect. Will found a new friend, Taiaka Vin'kai, a shifter and stargazer by trade. He too was interested by the island know as Junpuii and agreed to come for the journey. In the course of this adventure they were met by two, angry men who wanted Will's charts. Of course, neither of the men gave them the maps, and they were both soon chased by a small army of mercenaries. Will and his new friend, had been saved by one of Will's friends, Allen, who had a ship. They sailed for only a day, and were soon in a naval battle. They angry men had found Taiaka and Will, and would kill anyone for the maps. They began to set the Ophelia aflame. Will could only stare in horror, when he found words of Arcana spring to his lips. He shouted them, and a heavy rain fell and extinguished the flames. The battle soon ended with a great wave, sending both ships into the depths. Will awoke on a strange island with Taiaka, and they both discovered that the island was home to The Guardians, or The Dark Ones. In a battle with The Dark Ones, Will was injured greatly, and the phantasmal horrors of The Dark Ones marked Will. This mark was centered over his heart, and was as black as The Guardians. It was an intricate series of concentric circles, in between which were glyphs of a strange origin. After the battle, Taiaka awoke in the forest and was drawn to a cave. In the cave were The Dark Ones, and they told him of the prophesy, of how Will and Tai would join them. On the beach, another fight was breaking out, The Ophelia's crew were attacked by the crew of the enemy boat from the battle int he storm. The ship was captained by both of the cruel men, who wanted the maps. Will and Tai engaged in a long battle. In the process Will became blind from some kind of magic, and his eyes became two white orbs. Taiaka left the battle to commandeer The Minstrel's Folly. He was met by the stout mage who had been stalking them from the beginning, and Tai was struck by a bolt of lightening. On the beach, the battalion of mercenaries had unleashed a small pack of Umbras to kill the crew, now housed in the hull of the Ophelia. They ran for the shore, as soon as they saw three white bolt fly into the sky. The wounded were soon killed by the Umbras, and the five able bodied survivors swam to The Minstrel's Folly. |
