Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

As the maniac finished his slaughtering spree, a broad smile crept onto his face. He beamed like a child with a new toy upon his birthday, gleeful beyond measure that he had been able to mindlessly murder a living creature in cold blood. The wizard's lips pursed, but he said nothing as he turned toward his girlfriend. She was leaning against a tree, but then she went over to the eggs. She was apparently distressed by the turn of events, and well that she should be - but for a different reason, the wizard guessed. To most, life was sacred. To the wizard, life needed to be studied and categorized, thrown into boxes where it could be easily understood. Ironically, magic was different: it was so complex that it would never truly be fully understood.

But that was a paradox for another time. As the wizard came to the eggs and knelt before them, he felt one. It almost felt sticky, but not quite so, and the texture reminded him very much of the texture of a very sturdy wolf spider's web. Nonetheless, this was entirely different. The shell itself seemed to be shifting, like molasses swishing around in the bottom of a cauldron. But in truth, the egg was immobile. He lifted it carefully and tapped on it in a few different places; the shell was quite thick. It would take a lot of heat to properly penetrate the shell in order to reach the arachna drake within, but that heat would remain for a long time; that meant the mother didn't need to be there as often, even though longer periods were required when it did sit. He explained this to Asteria and then proceeded to pull the pack from his shoulder.

He arranged a few things before finally, carefully setting the egg into the pack. Making sure it was quite secure, he finally sealed up the pack and redonned it. It was heavy, but not really too heavy. Besides, he wouldn't always be carrying an egg; eventually, the creature within the egg would be carrying him.

"Grab an egg if you like. But I hear chittering. More are coming this way; I doubt they'll be too happy to find us here. Most likely, they raise the eggs together. That would certainly explain why there are so many of them here already. You're on your own from this point forward, Ogichi - now that we have what we came for and know what we're up against. Come, Asteria."

He reached for his girlfriend's arm, intending to hold her close to him until they got well beyond the outer border of the Spiderhaunt Woods.

There was a sound echoing from more of the hideous spider-like beasts, it would be joyous, but the white demon would have to act with caution if he were to carry one of these eggs and kill things it might shatter, at least all of the eggs he had encountered before had shattered shortly after combat started. Then again, these were laid by dragon-like creatures, surely enough these eggs would probably be quite more durable, but perhaps it was a better idea to be careful for the sake of the creature inside of it.

Ogichi approached the eggs, picking one at complete random and lifting it up in front of him with his free hand. The egg weighed quite a bit, definitely the heaviest egg the white demon had lifted, not a very impressive feat, but its texture was complexing. The true challenge would come from hatching the egg, one’s natural assumption would be that warmth would be what would warm an egg, but if that were the case then there would be very few Northern creatures.

The white demon examined the egg a bit more, precariously holding it in his hand. The egg wobbled a bit at the slightest tilt, but Horo’s reactions were quick enough to keep it from hitting the ground.

After he was finished giving the egg a good looking-over and finding the shell rather unimpressive, he slipped the egg into the inside of his coat where it could stay close by. “Well, if that’s it then, I guess we’re done with each other’s services.” He shot a devilish smile to the woman, threatening her without raising a fist or brandishing his weapon.

He turned from the direction of the two and made his way away from the nest, he wouldn’t need them from this point—a chattering came from amongst the trees in front of him, followed by the revealing of eight, large red eyes staring right at him. “That’s foreboding.” The demon mused aloud as he took a step back, his left arm crossing over the egg and gripping his side. This would be an interesting experiment in combat.

Just what she needed. To be in a spider-infested forest and steal one of her eggs. But, she continued to follow the blue wizard like a puppy as they made their dash from the spider's keep. It was a dangerous journey, but she doubt that her boyfriend would fail to keep her safe and sound. Thought men could be destructive, they could also be the best defenders in the world. Asteria gave them credit for that.

Just as they made their way back onto the main path, several spiders slid down from the web-cob branches and started coming at them, blocking the way. Trying to prove to Drax that she was tougher than he thought, she decided to attack first. The genasi flung a spark at them, before any of the hairy beasts could crawl back into the limbs of the forest. The spider withered and burned, screeching in pain as it did so, before collapsing on the ground. It created a chain reaction, as the next giant spider came at them. Drax would quickly take care of the rest, but two was enough for her.

Of course, she forgot they were in the middle of a forest.

The reminder came quickly, as the flames spread onto the limbs above them, shooting up the tree bark, due to all the gossamer strings that hung from the limbs. Soon, several of the forest trees were crackling with fire and a flaming spider web hung over them.

She stole a glance at Drax, wondering what he would do, and if he could save the forest from destruction. If he couldn't... it would best be if they get out of the forest before it came crashing down on them. If he could, he would be saving more than a life time of research in the branches. In any consolation to help, she continued to press her body closer to the man, cradling the egg she held.

It was at that moment that he was glad he'd brought something else along with him: a sword he'd recently acquired through some rather shady deals. But then, those were the kinds of deals Drax was best at making. It was sheathed and stowed in his pack, but its mere presence was enough to allow him to use its rather potent magical abilities. With that on his back, he could jump higher than most monks. He put his staff away in the same manner, using the pack and the sword stashed in it to support it. From his hand came a small fan. It was rather wet in places in this forest, but the spiderwebs soaked a great deal of the moisture; nonetheless, a bit of wind was just what was needed here.

The fan swept out, a sudden gust sending the spiders scuttling back as the fire drove them into the trees. They were being burned alive, every one of them, but three had escaped. It was those three that were now trapped by the flames, yet this would not be enough to kill them - not immediately, at least. The gust also blew the flames backward, dousing those closest to the wizard and his girlfriend. Others were simply spreading. But he'd whipped that fan from left to right in a circle, stepping away from Asteria as he'd put away the staff. Now he used the momentum to snap back, the force of the blow adding to the second gust. Back and forth the fan swung, until the spiders were burning and the flames around them were beginning to go out. A magic missile each to the trunks of several trees was enough to knock their burning husks to the ground, and the wind blew them in the right direction.

When it was over, He sighed as he put the fan away. He gave Asteria a look that clearly said not to do that again. She'd have to be combat-trained if she was to travel with Drax. He had basic skills with a sword, but he was excellent with a staff or a spear. He'd teach her what he knew of both and also give her some tactical training so that she'd know what to do in different situations, what to look at, what to know and what not to worry about. For now, though, they needed to get out of this bloody forest in one piece. So he took her by the arm once more and they began to move again.

The demon had proven himself correct, the fight had turned into a very interesting one as he favored his left side all-together, not allowing the large spider-like beast to so much as touch him. It didn’t last long though, as the demon thrust his sword through the head of the creature, splitting its head in half in a most gruesome manner, its brains actually spilling out into the darkness of the woods’ floor.

The egg was safe, and then woman had apparently set fire to part of the surrounding area. This showed a side of her to Ogichi that he thought was nothing more than ignorance, now it seemed to be closer akin to border-line stupidity. It was difficult to resist the urge to kill her simply for that action alone, but there were more important matters to attend to.

The wizard had doused the flames with a flick of his wrist and a fan that apparently held magical abilities. A smart response to the foolish act of setting fire to the area, though astoundingly it seemed to work towards temporarily forcing the beasts to retreat from the surrounding area, at least for now.

The white fiend shook his head in disbelief, shooting a sneer towards the woman as he took to his own path, following the shadows to wherever they may take him, to whatever people he would kill. Of course, he would still have to bear through the woods that were full of anger spider-beasts. They were nothing he couldn’t handle, as he had proven several times before, and this time he wouldn’t toy with them as he did with the giant one that was obviously combat-ridden.

So much for impressing her boyfriend. All she got was a couple of glares and a rather nasty impression of not know how to fight. The shady looking demon had swept past them and continued on his way to... wherever he was going. It didn't really matter to them anymore. All they had to do was get out of the forest and continue on their way with their daily lives.

If she ever contained her life by the time she saw daylight again.

The next thing that came after her was the impression of being dragged through the forest, her love in the lead. Heck, he could do whatever he wanted. As long as they were away from spiders, she was fine with him taking her into even the Abyss, or the Shadow plane. Nothing seemed ever so creepy than being surrounded by those eight-legged insects in the middle of a dark forest. They slid down the path, leaving the white fiend behind.

It was when they were barely to the openings, she finally raised the question.

"What are we going to do with the eggs? I'm sure you're keeping yours, but how the hell do you raise such a creature?"

The dark trek through the woods was along a difficult path, but the wizard was used to such paths. He lived in Balefire and the woods next to the city weren't exactly a picnic to stroll through. The wizard's girlfriend didn't seem to mind that he had now taken the lead once more. Most likely, she was only concerned with getting as far away from the arachnids and their draconic near-kin as possible. He didn't understand why some people could be so creeped out by something they didn't understand; Drax would simply have tried to understand it better. That's exactly what he was doing, in fact. Point being, he didn't get it.

But then, everything could be researched in his opinion.

Finally, the came out to a much easier path along the western edge of the woods. They were almost free of the beasts completely. Asteria was asking him a question, however; he listened and thought about his answer carefully before giving it. Raising one of these creatures would not be easy. They were violent, for one thing; he'd learned that rather quickly. The whole party had. They were also quite powerful and very fast. Besides that, they were difficult to kill. Someone like Ogichi made it look easy, but he liked killing things and was probably quite used to it; he'd had no problem, but others wouldn't fare so well against the monster. Nonetheless, the beast could be trained and that was precisely what he intended to do.

So he shrugged as he spoke, his words as truthful as they were vague.

"I will train mine like I would any other beast."

Morgis was no far behind the pair and heard the words of the wizard. He was no beast! He was an animal! Beautiful and handsome and powerful! Or...well, he would be...when he was fully grown. But he wasn't just a beast! Was he? Whatever. He followed his master closely, hoping he'd get something to eat soon; he was hungry.

The deal between Ogichi and Bellicianus Draxillian was over with, so now the demon would have to get as far away from the two as possible for he was more concerned about the egg he now held than the lives of the two he had been forced to join for one common goal, the collection of one of these eggs. However, it wouldn’t be exactly right for the demon to just leave. He shot a glance to the woman through the trees, knowing that the glow he saw came from her. Chances were that she would simply feel it, feel the threatening gaze of the homicidal killer. HE shot one to the wizard as well, a message to both announcing that the next time they were to meet, they would each meet a very horrible end by his blade.

He smiled the psychotic smile he held dear to his hear, and let out an echoing laugh of madness. He was ready to leave this dark and gloomy place, leave its pesky creatures behind which gave no more satisfaction than killing a paladin would. The experience was enjoyable, but he still needed to find his way from the confines of the woods.

At first he wandered randomly, and then he began to mark the trees with this blade of his sword, a personal message to himself that he had been down the path before. He stopped, only for a moment to hear the screech of some mad beast. There would probably be one more thing dead in this place before he was to leave, and he was fine with it.

It seemed as if her partner was always shrouded in mysteries. She even wondered about his feelings towards her, if they were a fraud or not. But it seemed unlikely, as he would have left her that morning after he met her in Cascadia. The little droplet of doubt still clung to her imagination, and it was starting to grow. Something had to give, or he would be honest to her.

And yet...

He had shown affection from the very beginning. Some existence of the love he gave her had to be true. And she would accept any answer the wizard gave her, as long as she could be held in his arms. Asteria clung to the egg as they walked into the sunlight.

A chill ran down her spine as she glanced over shoulder and into the darkness. Something was still out there, looking for her. It was going to hunt her down. Her thoughts were verified by the maniacal laughter that followed the stare. Several screeches followed. The frightened woman clung to her suitor as they made their way out of the forest. Whatever frightening things they were leaving behind, she was sure glad they were leaving them behind.

At long last, sunlight had begun to peer through the treetops; that meant they were getting sparser, which in turn meant that they were nearing the edge of the forest. The wizard mentally sighed, though no sound issued forth from betwixt his dark-red lips. Though the forest wasn't exactly his favorite domain, he preferred the night and the darkness to the bright sunlight of the so-called "waking" hours. To him, the "waking" hours were any time when the sun wasn't shining high overhead. He was a shade after all, born and bred in the eternal darkness of the shadow plane. It was not his typical domain, the sunlight.

Yet he could bear it easily enough when he had to. This little side trip on the way back to Balefire had been necessary to obtain the arachna drake's speckled egg and learn more about the beast itself, but he preferred Balefire to anywhere else because of the perpetual darkness that others of this realm seemed to call oppressive. It wasn't oppressive to him; to Drax, it was a warm quilt to ward off the steady chill of winter.

He held his girlfriend close as the screeches came. It was more to protect an asset than a girlfriend, he told himself, but even he was slowly beginning to realize how ridiculous that sounded. For now, though, he had his egg and that was all he cared about. He had his egg, his magic, and his woman. That was enough for him at present. He'd worry about ambition and gold when he got back to Balefire.

As he expected, a glint of crimson shining in the late afternoon sunlight marked the distant sleigh that had carried him here. Good. It hadn't been stolen from him and Ogichi hadn't gotten here first. That was the last person he wanted to find his sleigh.

"We're almost out of here," he said comfortingly to Asteria.

The spider-like beasts came quickly and in force, probably, probably responding to the theft of eggs and the deep and rotten smell of their fellow arachnid drake’s blood covering this pale white demon in their territory. They had no care if the being was more powerful than they were; they were but lowly beasts with hardly the power or coordination to do much damage to such a demon.

He looked at each of the beasts with a wide and joyous grin. He hadn’t expected such a party would come to see him out of here. He readied his sword, pointing it at a randomly selected arachna-drake. “You die first.” He said with the very essence of his joy radiating from his psychotically powered smile. It would die, then all of those around it would die. It would probably go quickly; it had to for the safety of the egg that the fiend carried.

There was a moment with no sound other than the speech that only the drakes could understand as they communicated with each other, potentially plotting together how they would kill this intruder, this thief, and this murderer. The silence and uneasy peace was broken when he let out a deep sigh and threw his sword up into the air, tugging on the cloth tied around the handle and quickly turning and twisting his wrist so it would start spinning. It spun horizontally, keeping the drakes at bay for a second, and then launching at the one he had first pointed at with a force that had yet to been rivaled in his eyes. The blade cut through the air almost like an air despite its large design, then it cut through the hide of the selected arachna-drake with an amazing and frightful ease. There was no time for the beast to scream, and there would be no time for the ones that were left and recklessly charging after the proven killer of their kind.

They were almost there. She bursted out into the opening, towing Drax along beside her. Asteria flew into the sunlight, a big whirlwind of orange hair and green clothing. Laughter drowned out the scenery as she gave the wizard a huge hug. They made it outside of the darkness and they were alive. And, not only did they make it alive, they made it alive with the eggs. She cupped it in both hands and swung it around like a discus, giggling at the sunlight that spread before them. It seemed as if a fully grown woman had disappeared back 20 years ago, when she was just a toddler. But, she was quick to mature again, stopping her childish prattling and straightening herself again. It was back to business again.

"I guess it's time to depart again. I'm assuming you're headed back to the dark lands, or something like that, to deal whatever you do with the Shadowkin. I'll see you whenever you need me, unless you happen to be going to Kellen."

She never like departing. It was the worst thing she did, besides setting houses on fire and leaving her parents. She was even worse at coping with it, as her mind loved to reminisce for hours on end. But she had to earn money and there was no way she could follow Drax for so long in the shadow planes.

Not that she knew they traveled through the shadow planes when she slept.

Plus, she wanted to take care of the egg. It held some special meaning, as if it was a child. Maybe it was a feminine thing, like dogs and cats to children. But, it was there, no matter what, and she must take care of it once it hatched. Her mind drifted just a bit before focusing on her boyfriend again. She cupped her hands and watched on with sorrowful eyes, waiting for his reply.

Drax let himself be dragged along, a small smile coming to his usually stoic face in spite of himself. For some reason, Asteria could do that to him. No one else could; other women were just toys for the bedroom. She'd been his first in a long time, but she meant more to him than any other woman ever had regardless of what he constantly told himself about her being a tactical maneuver. His smile faded as her antics went on, but he said nothing. For someone who liked the sun so much, he could hardly tell her to quit being so childish. She wasn't exactly an old hag after all. Then she became all business, however, and he nodded at her words. Yes, it was time for him to return to the City of Lanterns.

"Balefire awaits me. But I could swing by Kellen if you like. You're welcome to come looking for me in Balefire if you like; each of the wizard's towers there are a different color. The effect is an illusion bound into the stone of the buildings themselves. Mine happens to be brick-red."

The wizard shrugged. He wouldn't mind her stopping by; she was his girlfriend. Of course, when she did, she'd be forced to wait until he could come down to her. He waited for her answer as Morgis leaped into the back of the sleigh and curled up on the floorboards. He glanced at the kit and rolled his eyes, but then quickly looked back to his girlfiend.

Corpses lie strewn along the ground and in the trees. Each one was gouged, shredded, demolished, or unrecognizable as any being that once held life. They had been the last bit of joy that Ogichi would have from this journey, and the white demon would no care for the huge egg that was tucked snugly within his clothing, safe and soon to be a creature that would have as much bloodlust as its new “father.”

Horo slung his sword sharply and quickly, the blood that had covered the blade, dripping from the muscles and stringy intestines, and cast from it the red liquid across the trees, mixing with the blood that was already there and covering spots that were free from the blood that had been a result of the slaughter the demon enjoyed in this dark place. A sharp, psychotic grin returned to his face as he rested the blade on his shoulder, tapping it in joy and turning to the direction he had originally chosen. He could tell by the heavily lain markings of his blade and the largest arachna-drake that had chosen him to attempt to kill. It was nothing; most things he “fought against” were the same way.

Another day had been successfully completed by the slaughters that the pale white fiend enjoyed. As he walked he began to see light peeking through the dark, web-covered trees. That was his exit, that was the ending to this place and its pathetic creatures. He continued at a slow pace, allowing his orange eyes to readjust to the gradually increasing intensity of the sun’s light. He looked to the orb with the wide grin and returning his gaze to the land ahead, the road that had not been marked; he would follow it to his next destination, and to his next victim.

(OOC: YES! LAST POST!)

She shook her head.

"I'll be fine as I am. I'm use to traveling on foot, through the Istan desert at that point. If I ever need you, I'll look for the red tower in Balefire. Good luck, Drax. I'll probably be traveling, but the bartender will know where I am."

Telepathy and internal instincts bounded her to Cascadia, no matter how far. And she was emotionally found of Drax, so that produced her more... dark side. Yes, with this odd combination, she should be able to travel through Balefire and not make too much of a mess of herself. She gave him a smile, ran up and kissed him, before stepping back, egg in both hands. Her smile on her face was genuine and true. Asteria knew she loved this guy, and embraced it with all her heart.

It wasn't long before she started stepping backwards, back towards Norwood. With one more nod at the place, she swung around and started her long journey back. Back to where she came from and the job she held. There was a title to be earned. She disappeared over the hill and into the woods again, her fiery mop the last things to be seen.
