Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The wizard did just that, shooting a lethal glance at the demon in return. Behind a couple of close-set trees, he held her like a child and smoothed her hair. He kissed her gently, yet firmly, and not just once. He smiled again, if only briefly. Then he was all business once more.

"Don't worry about him. You don't have to do anything the demon says; he is not leading this expedition. I am. I brought you because your talents with fire will undoubtedly be useful, even if you only use fireworks as incendiary bombs. The demon is good with a weapon, so I hired him as well. But it seems now that I made a bad decision in hiring him."

He shrugged nonchalantly, though his eyes clearly showed that the gears were turning between his ears. Yes, he was thinking. The man could still be useful, but he would not have him endangering the expedition or Asteria. If he couldn't get along with either Drax or Asteria, then he would have to leave. Taking his girlfriend's hand in his, he led her back to where the demon was waiting for the pair of them.

"That ends now," he said to the demon regarding his glare. "We work together; that means acting like a team rather than going solo. If you can't handle that, leave."

Simple enough instructions. It was clear the demon wasn't going to play nice. Well, if he didn't want to play nice, he could leave. The wizard wasn't desperate enough to keep someone around that clearly had no intention of playing his games.

It was too difficult to hold back the laughter, a small snicker escaping the pale fiend’s lips here and there. The wizard wasn’t a threat to him, not in the slightest. It seemed very amusing; however, that the creature got so defensive noting the dark a murder-intent stare Ogichi had shot to his girlfriend.

“Oh trust me, I'm holding back a lot, but keep in mind this partnership will only last so long, but you and your girlfriend are safe… for now.” He gave that trademarked psychopathic smile again, “Besides, I think it might be fun to have a creature with as much of an instinct to kill as I do. This little party benefits me similar to the way it does for you. In fact, I’ll even make a deal with you. This journey turns into a success, I won’t kill you when it’s over, and we just go our own ways, hoping to never see each other again. That suit you?” Of all useless deals and promises that Ogichi had faked his way through, this was the only one that he actually meant. Killing these two wouldn’t be nearly as fulfilling as having a beast to assist him in his killing sprees.

He stretched a bit, his sword clattering a bit as he drew back his crazed smile to a sinister smirk, the murderous eyes drawn back to those of a mere psychopath which let his victims live. He had encountered eyes like those just enough to get the feel of them, to be able to mimic them. They weren’t any more than curtains if the eyes were truly the windows to the soul.

Actually, he had managed to scare the woman simply by showing his soul, his dark intent. He wanted to kill them both, that was no secret. “Now, if you’re ready, let’s get this over with, the more we stand around, the less of a team-player I’m feeling like.”

That feeling. It seemed always rustled when ever Drax kissed her. And, not to mention, he had that parenting touch about him as he held her. She adored it, worshiped it even. It made a secure little nest around her body, invincible to the demon's touch. But, even with his touch, she worried over the worth of her own life. The kisses calmed her down just enough to stop shaking and, soon, she found herself kissing back. She nodded at his words, still flustered from Ogichi's glare.

As the two men fired words between each other, she stared off into the surrounding darkness. It was an attempt to avoid the demon's eyes, for now. She left Drax to his doings and gently flitted a ways into the forest, not straying far. The darkness was constantly moving, shadows shifting around her. Frustrated, she snapped her fingers and a single flame jumped from the ignition. With the sudden beams of light came a squeal of terror and something scuttled back into the forest.

If she wasn't mistaken, she saw the tail of a lizard. Sticky webbing covered where the beast use to stand. She threw a spark into the growth beyond, and the same yelp came from afar. With a smirk, she sat back on her heels, hand on her hip and fingers scratching the back of her neck. Should it ever manage to escape, it would be going to its nest. She didn't doubt that was a different one from the drake before, but, hey, they had a trail.

"Guys," she hollered, raising her voice over the scuttling of the forest. "I think I found something."

Drax had heard the squeal and turned his head toward it. A tail? Like that of a small dragon...scaled, but without any kind of a tail weapon. Clearly, it was an arachna drake. Probably not the one from before, but that was good anyway. It meant that they would have a fresh one, and the echoing voice gave them a general direction to follow. The light went away as it flew out toward the thing, but that hardly mattered. Light would serve them no purpose here; it would only slow them down. Besides, Drax's natural darkvision would do the trick nicely. Even if the fire genasi could not, he was pretty sure the demon could also see well in the murky darkness.

He nodded as she hollered over to them. That was his cue, and a good excuse not to have to eat the legs of an arachna drake.

"Give me just a moment. Then we'll follow. I want to examine that carcass you have, Ogichi."

With that, he went over to the dead drake and began to examine it closely. He pulled its maw open and examined the mandibles. The eyes weren't actually red; they were a dull amber color that only appeared red when a light was shone in them. He checked this with a tiny magic missile fired at the ground, though they then appeared almost dark-orange than a red. But striking two rocks together confirmed his theory. The throat was quite broad, but extendable much in the same manner as the jaw of a snake. The pincers were razor-sharp. The whole of the thing was covered in scales; there was not a hair on its body except on the legs, which were jointed just like those of a spider's. This one had no tail, but it seemed that one had recently been removed. It also appeared to have a stump there that was growing out, as though it were regrowing its tail in the same fashion as a lizard - or a dragon, in this case. Finally, he stood.

"They dislike light and seem to hate fire, but that is not unusual for nocturnal beasts. The difference here is that we're in broad daylight, but the darkness gives them the advantage they need. If they exist beyond these woods, they are almost certainly nocturnal. No light should be used here, not until we're attacked or ready to attack; in that case, your powers of fire will come in handy, Asteria."

With that, he turned and joined his girlfriend. It was time to move.

"No time for lunch. We have to follow that drake before it gets too far away. Let's keep a short distance; shouldn't be a problem in this part of the woods, dense as it is here and fast as that thing can apparently move. But we'll stay close enough to get a bead on it when need be. If we find its nest, we should watch it for a bit before attacking it; knowing how it treats its young - and its eggs especially - can give us an insight into how to raise and domesticate the beasts ourselves. Let's go."

Ogichi waved his hand back towards the carcass nonchalantly, almost as if welcoming him to do whatever he cared to with the lifeless body of the beast. As the wizard looked down the throat of the beast, he was hoping that the maw of the spider-like creature would snap shut in the face of the humanoid. It would be something joyous, whether the spellcaster would die or not, but it would definitely give him a slight sense of fear that could only be matched by fifty people being killed. Ogichi would probably never like this man, but he was merely part of the means for the end of this wretchedly annoying adventure.

The maw didn’t snap shut, the wizard said some words about nocturnal creates which, obviously, disliked light and not stopping to cook the beast. There was practically no time in this darkened and daunting effect the twisted woods held. Ogichi was simply and generally bemused with the situation, more specifically the end. It was going to take quite the amount of mental preparedness to go without killing his current allies after the scaly arachnid beasts were dealt with.

“So, we’re just going to follow the yelp and kill wherever the black “rabbit” leads us?” Ogichi took a moment to think about what he said, “I read. It gives me something to do between killing things.” His statement was to-the-point, his obvious disinterest in simply standing around and chattering showing like a metaphorical bright light.

The sooner they were finished, the better the chances the two would get to live as well as the better the chances were that they would get their eggs. With his knowledge of killing, parents often seemed to run to try and save the next generation of slaughter-victims. However, to Ogichi, the next generation was lumped with the current when it came to killing. That way, there were very little revenge wishes against Ogichi.

She didn't have to be explained any more. Her mind was in too much of a panic to start comprehending all the technical stuff. Without any night vision, she would be as blind as a bat in this part of the forest. If the dark wasn't in her way, she would be tearing through the forest right now. But, at last, everything couldn't be her way and she found herself clinging to Drax's hand in comfort, before she made any sudden moves. Somebody had to have brains and she wasn't letting go of the spellcaster anytime soon.

Her mind fell upon what he said as they waiting for the demon to come with them. She could be useful instead a pain in the neck, for once! Maybe he did see something in her! Or maybe, he was just trying to be nice. Her hopes were soaring high, despite all the possible feints and deceptions he was capable of. But, one would expect that with the fire genasi. All she knew how to do was set things on fire and get into trouble. She felt proud of herself.

"You guys are thinking about breeding the damn thing?" she called. "Are you guys nuts? How are you going to be able to take care of all those drakes?" She shook her fiery mop. Men. They always wanted more than needed.

"Did you ever wanted to eat those... tentacles in the first place?" she whispered in Drax's ear as she started the chase after the monster.

Drax almost smiled. Almost. It was certainly tempting. But no, he wasn't going to raise all of them. In truth, he'd hoped to get through this without any kind of a fight - or ending up fighting (and maybe even killing) the demon in the end at worst. His kind were fools, always killing everything in sight without realizing the benefits of waiting a bit before you murdered someone in cold blood. He was a savage monster, whereas Drax was as calculating as a fiend.

He still hoped to avoid having to kill the arachna drake when they found its nest. If they could leave the thing to its environment once they had a couple of its eggs, Drax could come back for more later on or - even better - he could simply observe the beast in its natural habitat. The more Drax knew about something, the more he knew about how to control it. That was true with this as well; if he knew the instincts and lifestyle of a wild arachna drake, he could make his own far deadlier by tailoring his training to what it was built to do.

That's why he shrugged at the girl as he responded to her half-shouted query.

"The thing would be a deadly weapon, a fast mount, and a useful ally overall. There is a strong tactical advantage to domesticating one. And if I can domesticate one, I can domesticate others. I simply chose the one that seemed to fit my purposes the best - namely, the arachna drake that lives in these woods. It seems there is more than one; if I'm right, they breed much in the same way as wild tarantulas or wolf spiders do. They also lay a large number of eggs - again, if my assumption is correct. Their bodies seem to suggest that it is."

Finally, they were on their way. A soft chuckle erupted from the wizard's dark-red lips as he heard the question posed to him in a whisper by his girlfriend. Eat the thing? No. It was quite repulsive. It probably carried some disease anyway, or was filthy at best. Spiders didn't dwell in palaces or noble residences. They dwelt in dark places filled with dust and dirt, grime and mold, places where filth was the rule of thumb because it bred flies and other bugs upon which the spiders fed. Things weren't too far off here, though it wasn't as bad here as it was in some woods.

"Not a chance in all of the nine Hells," he said to Asteria.

It was difficult to tell what was going through the man’s mind. He was something else, a different type of mindset. All the white fiend could tell was that the being was not to be fully trusted with anything he said or did. With a demon such as Ogichi, one always knew what to expect, one could always expect him to strike at you relentless, attempting with his might to end the very life of those he was fit, and the sheer annihilation of those he disliked. If it came down to it, Ogichi would rip the very life from the man’s chest. It would be interesting, however, to see if the creature bled at all, and to see what kind of creature he truly was. With magic, it could be something without even a humanoid form.

As much as he disliked it, Ogichi had agreed with most of what Draxillian had said. The beasts, once submitted to the will of their owner, could serve a wide variety of purposes that one could see as fit. A natural machine to either lead war, or be guided by it, but Ogichi didn’t care about petty wars, he cared for nothing but the sheer death of those around him, few did he actually want to see as lifeless husks strewn out amongst the cold ground like pitiful beasts, the two he was with hadn’t made it to that particular list.

Ogichi showed a slightly smaller grin as the woman began to take off, most likely going after the very beast they were hunting. He followed after her, since she was the first one to start following the beast. Surely the weak fool he had tried to kill before would be behind him, watching him to make sure that he wouldn’t strike his precious girl. It didn’t matter to the demon, he simply followed.

Again, Asteria shook her head. What was up with men? They always have to have the whole stock instead of enjoying it one by one. And they always had to do with being stronger, faster, better. Who cared about the actual beast that was the subject to their greedy, power-hungry ways. But, then again, was that the nature of all creatures on Imythess? She certainly hoped not, but it was always possible. In her eagerness to stop standing in one place, she continued the conversation as they strode through the woods.

"How are you going to feed it? Take care of it? Give it its sunshine... or whatever darkness it needs? How do you plan to raise the thing when you don't even have a home? Or know any housekeeping skills?"

It was difficult to see now, and she clung to the wizard's sleeve. There was crackling all over the place and she felt herself get tangled in various sticky stuff. She must have been covered from head to foot. But, being blind also gave her quite an ear. There was a lot of padding just beyond them, and she hoped the men knew what they were doing.

Suddenly, something shot out at her and gently pulled her away. She thrashed about, but proceeded to get stuck even more. Instead of the regular 15 feet off the ground, she must have been dangling upside-down 40 or 50 feet off the ground, not to mention that there was a set of eight beady eyes glaring down at her. It wasn't a drake, for it didn't have a tail where a lizard should have. In place, it had large mandibles, which clacked as it came closer to its meal. Asteria franticly looked about, not knowing what to do.

His staff in one hand and girl in the other, he hardly noticed the kit was still there - but it was. It saw the beast before the wizard and was halfway into the trees when it snatched up the girl. The creature was only a spider the size of a carthorse, not an arachna drake, and it squealed as sharp claws slashed at its eyes from nowhere. Sharp teeth sank deep into its flesh and then were ripped free as the kit was shaken into some nearby bushes. This gave Drax the opportunity to hurl a lightning-charged magic missile from the tip of his staff. One of the eyes exploded, the air crackling with electricity as two more swiftly followed suit.

The beast drew back into the darkness, the brief illumination and the pain granted by the magic missiles enough reason for it to retreat at first. But then it came again. Drax got smarter this time. Blinded by rage and pain, the spider came on aggressively. Drax let fear seep into the very air and the spider was halted, hesitation sneaking up on it from within as a magic missile shattered two branches it was standing on. Three more quickly fell and several more missiles separated the web from Asteria. When she fell, she would fall safely atop the creature - and then roll off. Drax would simply prevent the creature from being able to crush the girl. It was the quickest and safest way to get her down at present.

The woman grabbed on to the wizard’s sleeve after some righteous commentary about caring for the beast. Sure, even the white fiend would care for the creature, it would become one of his favored creatures, he would even feed it each day, a different meal and a different flavor. There had been a woman some time ago that had tried explaining to him the joys of slowly taking the life of another being, enjoying their demise. Perhaps this would be incentive to try it out. He could cut the food, allowing its heart to beat and its mind to work before letting his pet have a wonderful meal. Of course, it would probably turn gluttonous, but that wasn’t going to be a problem for the demon.

Suddenly the woman took off into the gloomy darkness. It didn’t take long for the wizard to respond to her disappearance, shooting a magical bolt of energy into the darkness and at a large spider. It may not have been what they were hunting, but had such details stopped Ogichi before? He smiled, readying his sword and waiting for the perfect moment to strike. The beast began to cower in fear, probably another one of the spellcasters reliable abilities. He used the spell again to free his “love” Ogichi didn’t notice, only the beast that would become his next victim.

He took a deep breath, as the man worried about the girl, he would worry about the beast. He charge it, his sword in tow as he began to raise it. At first, the demon charged recklessly with a good loud, bloodthirsty scream before disappearing. The spider had been paying attention; it seemed confused by his disappearance. Soon he reappeared above it, bringing down a web-covered sword from his fall as he landed on the creature’s thorax and stabbed frantically and psychotically at its head, not caring whether he separated the head or simply prodded at its mind a few dozen times. His speeds made it so that he could make several successful blows before the beast took another little trip as he killed it. It wouldn’t get its solace until it died. If anything, this was good for his companions. Taking full joy in this kill lessened the chance that they would die.

She sighed in relief as the spider dropped dead. Now that the immediate danger was gone, she was up high enough that a little light illuminated the area and high up enough that she was able to see way into the forest. She spotted the drake, scurrying along the treetops, heading for what looked like huge lizard eggs. As she felt herself tumble through the air, she decided to point out the directions. She landed on the spider carcass with a sickening crunch, before jumping out to join the wizard and demon.
"Sorry Drax. I don't know why I look like prey, but I did find the nest. Come on!"
She was acting kind of childish, but in any case she grabbed ahold of the wizards hand and started running, the man in tow. It was pretty much a guarantee that Drax could pull her back, with his strength, but she wanted to get out of this forest and the faster you get it done, the faster you can get it over.

At least... she hoped.

Drax had no trouble keeping the girl in check enough to prevent her from getting too far ahead or scaring the drake away. As they moved forward, quickly but quietly, they finally came upon a rather dense pocket of trees and bushes filled with webs. The clearing was small, but enough to house - the eggs. At last. They were large, each about the size of a small cat, and of a dark-gray color speckled with black. Several smaller drakes were guarding the eggs carefully, all of them looking badly worn through battle. Clearly, Drax's was not the only party to have come here in search of the drakes.

The group watched the monsters for some time before the largest drake, wounded and wary, began to drift away. That's when Drax signaled Ogichi, heading him toward the monstrously huge arachna drake as he fired off a few magic missiles charged with the electricity of his staff at the creatures that were guarding the eggs. They went down quickly, but they were just as quick to rise. A couple of well-placed shots were enough to take most of them down. The last one, though, was quite the fighter.

Whirling through the air with a rush of wind and a crackle of electricity, the wizard surged forward as the small beast came on. It was lightning-fast and very vicious, but it had no skill in battle other than its own experiences. They were not enough to save it from the blows the wizard rained down upon it. Finally, it collapsed. An electrical magic missile finished it off and Drax turned toward Ogichi to find out how he was faring against the group's earlier attacker.

At last they had arrived to where the creatures kept their eggs. At first, they waited, then the largest of the battle-torn beasts wandered off, the wizard signaling for the pale white demon to deal with what was most likely the most dangerous one there. Ogichi didn’t like taking orders, but that didn’t mean he didn’t enjoy the thought of killing the large beast as the thought of killing the two he was with flashes simultaneously. He snuck off, following the creature until it stopped, taking the sounds of magical energy as a cue to begin slaughtering the beast. The trademark psychotic smile came upon his face once more as he took the opportunity the distracted beast presented and then blinked right above it, the usual grinding sound echoing.

He let out a joyous and maddened laugh as he brought his sword down at the unsuspecting beast. The blade cut through the air and the arachnid creature looked to the source of the laughter. It managed to dodge most of the strike, managing to only receive a small cut to one of its legs. Not a great feat considering it had eight of them.

The white demon stumbled a bit as he stood, slouched over with his blade dragging out of the ground. His smile hadn’t worn away; he lifted his head with joy, pointing the blade at his victim. He blinked with another grinding sound, this time right in front of the beast, striking with near-blinding speeds at the beast. Somehow it managed to dodge out of the way of the first three strikes; but Ogichi’s advancing strikes proved to be more than the spider-like beast could handle.

It was surprisingly quick on its feet for being such a torn beast, managing to move and dodge a series of the crazed demon’s strikes. He was enjoying this fight more and more as each swing of his blade came down, taking a chance as to whether it would hit or not.

The beast had attempted several times to strike mits attacker whom simply blinked with another grinding sound. The blade was beginning to disappear in the dark blood of the beast. Its hits were starting to strike more since its wielder had attacked the legs of its target.

It took no more than a moment of cutting before the beast was letting out loud screams through its mandibles. A final blood-curdling scream came from the beaten beast as the white demon drove the sword into the creature’s eye, forcing the metal of the blade to go through the brain and into the thorax. All that was left when the demon was done was an eight-legged husk.

The spellcaster turned to Horo, seeming interested with the progress he had made. The demon just shot him a smile as he rested the blood-soaked blade on the white cloth of his coat. He grinned from ear to ear, overly happy. The only thing that could truly make him happier would be if more of the beasts came at the sounds from their fellow monstrosities being killed, then the fiend could extend his joy. Unfortunately at the current moment, there was nothing more than some flaming-haired woman, a wizard, and a bunch of lifeless corpses.

Asteria watched with a pathetic eye as the two men began to slaughter left and right. Again, not for the first time that day, she wondered how men faired with each other in this world. It was always kill or be killed. To both her lover and her worst nightmare, it was how they lived. Such a sad state, the opposite gender, and such simplicity their lives were. She wondered how they knew civility. But, yet, they somehow manage to use their skills and manipulate other people. She sighed and leaned against the tree.

It was over a moments. Tens of corps laid upon the ground, some twitching others completely and throughly dead. Finally, after minutes of lounging around, she got up and gently, ever so slowly, walked over to the nest. They eggs were heavy, but she could carry one with both arms. She lightly plucked it up with her hands, creating the tiniest flames she could ever create. It would warm the egg while not burning the creature inside.

With a twist of her head, she nodded to go back the way they came.

"Come on. Grab an egg and let's get out of here."
