| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

How had this happened? How did he get here? What kind of horrible place was this? Well Marik knew the answers to all three of those lovely little questions and he frowned as he stood on his solid island surrounded by muck. Stupid birds! They had chased him through the woods and screeched and squawked at him, it wasn’t until he was hopping from gnarled tree to slipper stone and then to this spot that he seemed to realize that he had nowhere to go. When there was no more forward progression only then had he turned around to face the avians of terror but found only one of the many birds instead, the rest circled and rose away to leave this owe who apparently didn’t fear this place as much as the others did. It opened its beak to reveal jagged teeth. Marik had bared his own and then raised a hand as the bird lunged for him and summoned forth magic and created a small flame right in the attack creatures eyes. It shrieked and flew backwards, thrashed in the air for a minute and fell into the muck where its sparkling feathers quickly were darkened with murky water and they slipped away into nothing. Marik had sat down and let his fingers drift until they touched something cold, wet, and numbing. He lifted his fingers and tried to flex them but to no avail they were no longer his, they were cold and like bits of rocks. He drew into himself, suddenly afraid for he was surrounded, and he now realized it, by mud and water. Most beings needed water to survive, Marik lived on light and heat, and fire, water would not kill him, but to touch it, to be submerged in it, it would leave him little more than a sinking and heavy stone frozen in time. His body could be likened to magma in that way, however once he dried out and heated back up he would slowly gain motor skills again so it wasn’t a death sentence to be splashed with water, it was just undesirable. And now he was scared because apparently the rock he had jumped on to get to this one solitary piece of land had slipped into the quagmire and judging by the descent of the bird it was one of those sucking marshes that pull you down. This water here would be a death sentence… he could wait here for an eternity and wish for someone to come along and they wouldn’t. So that was what happened, that was how he got there, and this horrible place was… a marsh. |

The water was deeper than the murkiness allowed to be seen. Vernon swam lazily beneath the surface. He knew the intruder was nearby. He could even see the intruder's pursuer up above. Seemed not but a cocky little bird. Was the man some sort of walking gingerbread man or something? In either case it didn't matter. Could have been the intruder's familiar for all Vernon cared. Little sooner than the bird had touched the surface did Vernon drag the creature down into the marshes depths, not even offering the creature the chance to flail feebly at the surface. He bit into the creature, noted the flavor and discarded the carcass for the crocodiles to play with. chances were in favor of the intruder being a better mean anyways. Vernon rose slowly peering out from water's surface like a crocodile. It was human.... and yet the same time it was not human. Vernon's eyes gave no hints and his nose could only pull out so much. Had to be some sort of magic involved. Either way, the creature was certainly edible. "Should you value your life I would suggest you tell me why you are in MY marsh and why I shouldn't kill you for tresspass?" Vernon grinned as he climbed onto the small island. |

His knees drawn up to his chin, his skin tinged blue and his hair close to his face, longer than usual… how had that happened? It was on his cheeks and he had just noticed that it had parted. He would have to cut it… this mop would be a mess soon enough. He pushed a lock out of his eyes and resumed curling into a ball to wait for all eternity. His simple dry tunic and shorts were dry despite the moist air; no doubt form his unnatural body heat. Clothes made for humans worked for Marik but they wore out faster, they dried and became brittle and were prone to smoldering at unfortunate times. This was the state of the boy and if he ocudl shed tears or sob then he would have, instead he glowed just a little more blue, like some ghostly candle in this marsh, and thought of what would happen next. In all likelihood the birds would return and he had nto the magic to repel them, or worse… things called alligators lived in swamps… how did he know that. He tried to think of what an alligator was, momentarily distracted, and the image came into his mind though it was distorted and off in the way that these things usually were. It was just a picture and some imagination, he had no idea if alligators really were yellow and red, or if they were as large as his mind showed them to him, but he knew the rough info… if only his brain could be more compliant with all things. While contemplating these things he looked up, saw the marsh, the murk, and the water around him. He shivered, not from the cold but from fear, and immediately began to dwell on his miserable circumstances again. The water moved slightly, and it went unnoticed y Marik whose head was down in his arms again. Had he been paying attention then he may not have jumped so badly when that thing poked its head up from the water. He might now have repressed a violent shiver as he stood and looked around. And he might not have shown as much fear as he did when he looked down at the… face? In the water. His body was bluish-white, his glow was strong, and his eyes were wide while his face was rigid and impassive in all other manners. He backed up slowly, stuttering, and then took another step back. His foot met with mud, and then within the second it sunk a bit and met water… he felt the sickening wetness seep into his body as though he were a sponge, he lunged forward onto his knees torn between tending to his foot and answering the voice… The voice was more pressing at the moment so it won out, “Ummmmm, ummm, er….” He looked around desperately and found the face again, “Well I… there was this thing… and then the birds came, and they chased me… here! I was… am, I am… trying, that is… well to find… something, or e someone, or… a place…” he whimpered and stuttered. He was confused mostly by himself, everything he said was a truth, but it was jumbled and full of uncertainty and doubt just like his life. “and… I’m not tasty at all…” he finished weakly. |

Blue? Humans weren't supposed to be blue and glowy and yet the human before him seemed plenty of both. Sure it could be the work of some spell, but it was enough to tease the curiosity in Vernon's taste buds. The kid said he wasn't tasty, but that made Vernon want to be the judge of that all the more. But before dessert he could play with the fellow a bit. One simply had to take advantage of one so terror stricken as the child before him. Vernon slowly circled the kid, like a cat prowling around it's cornered prey. "You scent seems to call you quite the liar," Vernon grinned after giving the air a few audible sniffs that visibly caused Vernon's nose to flare. "Birds might not be bright but they no doubt followed because they were assured you were indeed quite tasty," Vernon grinned calmly before licking his lips. "But let's ignore that for now. Can you remember what it was you were looking for? Is it a person? Is it a place? Or is it some odd trinket?," Vernon snickered as the circle steadily began to shrink. He doubted it was anything of interest, but what ever the kid sought might be an amusing distraction for a while. If nothing it gave Vernon a reason not to cut the kid open just yet, though he was quite curious to what other oddities the glowing boy had. |
