Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

What Could go Wrong With a Swim

Kaess came to the lake looking forward to a good swim. He had been traveling for awhile and it was time to have some fun. He walked out of the forest seeing the lake stretching out before him. He then stretched a bit as he looked out. The sun shown down on the crystal clear lake and he saw that there were not too many people around the lake. He took off his shirt and pants leaving him with only his boxers and flew into the air climbing a bit then diving into the water. He dove down deep and resurfaced with a satisfied gasp as he breathed in fresh air. He then started to swim some laps near where his clothes was.

"Wow this is a nice day and the water feels great. It is so nice to relax on a day like this. Now just to avoid trouble for the rest of the day. Well that shouldn't be too hard what could go wrong on a day like this." He knew he shouldn't say such things out loud, but he just felt like it couldn't hurt on a day like this. He just hopped his luck would postpone punishment until tomorrow. He shrugged in the water and then went back to swimming enjoying the feeling of moving threw the water.

The day was young and the sun could just be seen over the tree line of the forest. Graythorn wove in an dout of the passing trees, like a snake in the bush, he was tired and hot, but knew it woul dnot be a good idea to stop until he reached a more safer location. The tree tops casted a small overhanging of shade in the forest that gave it a dim creepy look, but Graythorn was used to this, being a wood Elf gave him security and joy to be in woods like these.

The scent of water filled the mans nose as voices echoed in his ears. He quickend his pace a bit and stepped otu of the clearing of trees and right onto the shore of a lake. His bow attached to his back and his long green cloak dragging on the ground below him. Peering out over the land scape he could see very few people spending their day out enjoying the waters. But one however caught his eye, a man jumped inot the air, then dove into the water with such grace.

After hanging his cloak over a tree limb and tucking his weapon sunder them not to be seen, he removed his grassed covered boots and walked closer to the edge, placing his hairless toes into the water he smiled and stopped. A great wind blew past his cheek taking his light honey coloered hair across it also. He closed his eyes and took in the peacfullness of nature around him, hopefully today woul dremain good.

How long had it been since he had entered these blasted woods. It wasn't like him to get lost and he didn't like it much either. Even though it was a nice day, it wasn't helping his mood at all, it had been a nice day for several weeks now. What he wouldn't give for a bit of rain, or a thunderstorm. What had he come into these woods for in the first place? Oh ya, that bandits camp. After spending weeks in these woods he was beginning to loose hope of ever finding the camp. He hadn't even ran into a bandit let alone the camp.

As he continued to make his way through the trees he figured that as long as he kept walking around in areas he was not known to him he would run into it sooner or later. Coming to an opening he came across something else however, a lake. A body of water that everyone seems to all ways get worked up about. Though the water was nice it wasn't something he would go all crazy over. Looking about he noticed that he hadn't guess wrong either, several people were out having fun. One had just dived even flown into the air slightly before diving into the water. It wasn't a normal person for that matter, in fact it wasn't even human. From this distance it looked to be a small dragon but seemed deformed in some way.

No matter he hadn't come for the lake and from what he could tell there was no bandit camp here, he would just have to continue looking somewhere else.

((OOC: Hope you guys don't mind me joining and spicing up the topic a lil))

It was only bound by the laws of the very nature and of those things that kept the world together that after a storm, sunshine always follows – and while sunshine, another storm prepares itself to come. As such is the course of things, and a beautiful day like this could not go without even the slightest of incidents, as such the first omen announced: a distant sound of galloping hooves that could have been heard, barely, in the near vicinity of the lake, getting louder however, with each passing beat, with each passing second.

Guided and possessed by a personal vendetta and blood oath, Zholdis had been tracking a bunch of filthy bandits for the last few days, looking to take them out one by one until there was no one left. They proved to be good at hiding and not even the superior tracking skills and Zholdis’ familiarity with the forest proved to be much help to him. Blinded perhaps by the thirst for vengeance, he might have been reckless in his search, took the wrong turns and made the wrong decisions. It’s been so long tailing this certain organization of bandits and thugs that it almost became a second nature to him – his thoughts of revenge were not directed at a mere camp of thugs, mere amateurs in the art of disposing people of their goods and their life, but on a larger scale organization that, an underground society that might just spread across all continent, or at least across all Imythess. So far, it was a one man’s war, one that he would likely never win.

Only today he managed to get himself in the near proximity of one of their camps, the one he’s been attempting to track down for almost a week now. Though not by skill but by chance his destination was reached, Zholdis was unable to predict that which was about to happen to him; ambushed and cornered from all sides, he could claim no more than two lives before being forced to flee or die there. He was no adept at running away from a battle, and cursed himself over and over again for spoiling it up just when he was so close to his target. He ran and galloped through the forest, feeling a considerable number of arrows connecting with his skin, rupturing tissues and muscles.

To all those that had ears attuned to nature, it would have been almost a certainty that the gallop was not a normal sound made by a running horse – the beats were hectic, and some were even skipped, they were not equal, not in sound and not in intensity, it indicated that the one producing them might have been wounded. Their suspicion would soon be confirmed, at the sight of a shocked centaur warrior making his presence known from the undergrowth. He knew that some people might be at the lake, and he had to warn them. The centaur came swift into the clearing, but tripped over his own legs, as his muscles started to fail him beneath the pain of the arrows that pierced them; his rear legs were numb, and he crushed to the ground, at the elf’s side. “Quick…” he muttered beneath heavy breaths. “Bandits are coming!” It required a great feat to tire down a full grown centaur like that, and if he wasn’t mistaking, a group of bandits were on their way to finish their job and end the nuisance at all. “Save yourselves!” Impressive in physique as he was, a strong and powerful half-man, half horse, Zholdis couldn’t deal with the pain for too long and succumbed to the poison that the arrows were imbued with. He had a sword of his one secured on his back, dipping in human blood.

OOC: I have no problem with you joining, but in the future PM the creator of a topic before doing such things. I have my own plans for the plot. However, I will just work around it this time.

Kaess was still doing a relaxed swim. He noticed a human at the shore looking at him and wondered about it for a bit. He also had noticed a wood elf that seemed about ready to go into the watter and enjoy the nice day. Neither concerned him for the moment so he just continued his swim. That is until a centaur came out of the forest looking hurt. He said something about bandits, but he couldn't hear the centaur well. 'Well just my luck, I shouldn't have said that now things have gone bad. Oh well if it is bandits shouldn't be too much of a problem.' He moved to a rock and flipped him self out of the water, scattering a plum of water around him as he came out. He moved towards where the bandits were coming from. 'Well lets see how many we are dealing with.'

He called out to the centaur, "You got a rough number on these bandits? I want to know how many I have to kill and it is their bad luck that they are interfering with a perfectly good day for me. Also how bad are those wounds? I can provide a bit of healing if you needed it." He then fell into a strong defensive stance good for dogging arrows as he proceeded towards the centaur. He saw several of the other people near by had vanished into the forest to avoid the bandits. Kaess didn't worry and just let his magic rise up in him readying one of his more powerful spells. He felt the wind build up inside him and the his magic burning in his blood. Kaess then saw a few arrows come out. 'Seems like the advanced group was coming through.' The half-dragon smiled, 'They have no idea what is about to happen to them. Well at least they will learn why it is a bad idea to be bandits around me.'

Graythorn stood their for a few moments, the wind blowing in his hair and the cool lake water laping agaisnt his bare pale skin. It was cool water, not to cold and not to hot. But just right to bring pleasure to him. He often did not get to relax like this for often he was on the hunt, on the prowl. But maybe just maybe today would be different in that prospective. He opened his eyes as a faint galloping sound entered his ears. He thought nothing of it as he walked back out of the water and headed to his clothing. Many people where playing around in the water, some looked like they came here often. and graythorn was happy to see that people could actually enjoy themsleves without fighting and hatered. As he dired his hands and plached his cloak back on he looked up to the sky and smiled, today would be a good day. But he was wrong...

The galloping quickened and now sounded like it was headed right for the lake. But the running patterns where off beat, like this creature was wounded. Graythorn tied up his boots and placed his bow on his back just as a giant horse like creature burst through the forest tangle. It was a centaure, not something graythorn had mush bussniss with in the past. But as it came through the forest line it crashed onth the ground right by his feet. Takeing instant action graythorn ran to the man. Are you ok? what happened? The man spoke and said that banditd where comeing and everyone should leave and save themselfes. With out thinking about it graythorn grabed his bow off his back and notced an arrow. He kneeled by the beast and looked at him, the bow pointed into the woods. Are you ok, whe are you wounded at? All the while people wher enow running about scraming out of the water, but graythorn was different, he would wait and avenge this mans pain.

He had hoped to quietly pass this part of the world without a sound. He wasn't looking for fun and he wasn't looking to get involved in anything else. He was here for the bandits, and the bandits alone. He knew that there were quite a few other people around, though he hoped he would pass by unoticed.

As he made his way around the lake however more and more people began to show up. Like a moth to flame lakes did tend to attract alot of people. Quite a few people seemed more distracted then usual however. Most were looking off in one direction as if they could hear something. Well perhaps they could he wasn't one to ask, hey did you hear that. As he continued he made sure to pay more attention to the location in whaich everyone seemed focused in. And sure enough it wasn't long before a rather large looking figure burst thorough the trees.

A centaur, half man and half horse. He had never seen one so up close. TO be correct he hadn't ever seen one except in someone else book he had happen to see as they were reading. He wasn't much for reading. The centaur wasn't that far from his current location, and from what he could see it was injured. It didn't take long for Starrk to decide what to do, nothing. It wasn't his problem and he wasn't looking to get involved in it.

Several other people however didn't seem to share his ideas though. At least two others in short order were near enough to lend the half man aid. One was the deformed dragon he had seen swimming and the other was one he had missed completely. From his getup and looks he appeared to be some sort of ranger. They still seemed to keep their focus off in the distance, from where the centaur had come from. Perhaps he had been followed by whatever had injured him?

No matter Starrk would let them deal with it as he continued on his way in search of the bandit camp.

Centaurs were no particular friends to any creature living beyond the borders of the forests and against nature such as humans and similar minded races often tended to live – it was a great distrust that they held for the outsider races that often brought the two of them in conflict f not worse. Only dire or special circumstances brought the two races to work together for a common goal. While Zholdis did not share the belief of his race fully, he was still somewhat wary when dealing with outsiders, and couldn’t say that he wasn’t grateful that his strength has served him enough to bring him to a fellow wood elf that could understand and help him better than anyone else, before it was too late for him.

At this time, all help was appreciated, and as the strange humanoid dragon ascended from the water and put himself as a line of defense between him and the incoming bandits, Zholdis could only smile, satisfied that there was still someone in the world that liked to put the things in order.

“There was no way they could have matched me in speed, but I was in no condition to cover my tracks as I ran towards here, expect a pair in the following seconds – mounted, and the rest after at least half of an hour later, expect at least a dozen more – on foot. Can you handle the first two on your own?”

His words came out clear this time, but it was obvious that he’s made an effort to speak so fluently. Once he was done giving the half-dragon information, he turned to the elf and grabbed him by the arm, responding to the inquiry in the man’s native language.

“Ambushed…”
He panted and took a deep breath. “You must help me, I can’t feel my legs, pull the arrows out of my back, they are pressing on my spine! I can help with those bandits, just pull them out.” Given that the half dragon was strong enough to hold the first wave on his own, and needn’t the swiftness of the archer’s bow.

It wasn’t long before horses could have been heard approaching, following the tracks of the centaur, the riders were armed with bows and were likely to shoot from a safe distance and use melee as only a last resort.

Kaess dogged the arrows he saw come out in their direction. They were random shots and not very accurate ones. He listened to the centaur as he spoke understanding both what was spoken to him and the ranger. 'Well I guess I will have to clean up the advanced group quickly.' He took his burning letting it rise in him and shape it into his standard fire ball. "Only two well then I won't have a problem then. Just wait there for a few minutes I will have the first two finished off quickly. Which shouldn't be a problem."

Kaess heard the pounding of hooves and saw the two mounted archers. 'They are together all too easy then and staying at a distance won't help against me. Oh well they don't know that yet.' He launched the fire ball at the two watching it speed at them. The two bandits had gotten off two arrows, but they weren't good enough to hit him and the arrows flew past him and over the others into the lake. Both then tried to turn away from the fire ball, but it slammed into one exploding into the other. Both were burned badly and knocked from their horses who bolted in fright from the burns they received. Kaess looked at the two and launched another fire ball a few minutes later, as they were trying to get up. This finished them as he saw them go still. He then turned to the centaur and spoke in elvish,

"Just so you know I understand elvish quite well having grown up here, so now since we have some time lets get those wound treated. I don't like the sound of you loosing feeling in your legs. I may not be perfect, but I do have some skill at healing and know a simple healing spell that should speed up your recovery. Now all I need is your permission to treat you though, since I don't do thing against another will. Still if I help you should be patched up before the other group arrives, who will probably not do much better then their friends there. The name is Kaess by the way if you are wondering."

He watched the centuar seeing what he would decide. He also watched the elf to see what would happen. He also noted a human still on the shore watching them. 'Wonder what he is going to do?'

Voices upone voices could be heard comeing from within the forest itself. It sounded as if more than a small group of bandits were on there way to crush the lake. But Graythorn would have a little surprise for them. Still on his knees but keeping attention focused on the centaur, he releashed an arrow right into the cheast of the first bandit to break the tree line. The arros caught him just under the throat, killing him instantly. Now he turned to the centaur.

Placeing his bow next to him on the ground he looked into the centaurs eyes. He had told graythorn where the pain was and asked for asstince on the arrows. He did a little heal spell to cover his hands. As he got closer to the creature he spoke, not in english but in elfish. This may hurt just a little, but i will try to get them all out with tearing much skin. This spell will ease the arrows comeing out. Graythorn then moved his hands down to the mans back, pulling out the first arrow. It was lodged in there, but not enough to cause majoir damage. It took him about three minuets to remove the seven arrows lodged in the creatures spine. As he did this more an dmore bandits approched, but the dragon like man did his job greatly. There, all of them are otu now, most of your back is healed now. Slideing out of the way as the dragon man came over. To be resource full graythorn replaced the arrows in hsi bag with the ones he pulled out, notcing on one on his bow. He picked it up and aimed, a next wave of bandits on there way.

Zholdis nodded in acknowledgement to the dragon man’s words, and couldn’t help but divert most of his attention to him – he tried to think as little as possible of the arrows and the pain that was to surge through his body once they were going to be pulled out – one by one. Concern filled his eye for a slight second seeing the fire build up in the scaled man’s hands, fearing for a moment that if he was going to misaim any of those fire based spell, the forest would have been damaged; even the smallest of sparks could have proved to be hazardous with so many dead leaves laying on the ground, not to mention what magical fire could do. However this was not the appropriate time nor place to interfere, so he could only home that the firebringer’s aiming skills were just as good as his ability to draw fire out of think air. To his relief, the two fireballs flew true, knocking both of the riders dead, without causing any major collateral damage to the woodlands around them. It was a fortunate situation, but one that he did not get much to enjoy it, seeing as the arrows started being pulled from his back, rupturing his flesh and scratching along his spine and ribs. His back was literary filled with arrows, the human as well as the horse part, and he could only pray to whatever higher force he worshiped, to not pass out from the pain. The healing energies released through the same hands of the elf, managed to keep him awake through the whole process, and have him go through it only with an occasional clenching of his teeth and fists. Zholdis was a warrior, and a warrior should never show weakness.

With the last arrow removed from his body, senses already started to kick into his rear legs; he moved them and hit the ground beneath with the massive hooves that he possessed, propelling himself on his all fours once more. He was not quite fully healed yet but it was enough for him to be able to stand, and even fight on his own. His tail was flicked to each of his sides and he went to greet and thank his benefactors, in the language of the elves. “I thank you both for your assistance, and I hope that I could only pay you back tenfold one day. I am Zholdis, and those bandits have been plaguing Norwood for quite a while now.” His eyes shifted from the elf, to the much more muscular form of the dragon man; upon hearing that he’s grown here, in the same forest, Zholdis dismissed any trace of wariness, knowing that he’s probably misjudged the man. With his magical abilities, Kaess seemed like the strongest of the three. “Sorry to have brought this nuisance upon you, I knew of nowhere else to go.”

Now, it was likely that the next wave of bandits would be a few minutes late, so there was plenty of time to plan, so they wouldn't fall in another ambush.

Kaess watched as the centaur got to his feet. He felt he shouldn't be moving so soon, but then Zholdis knew his body best. Still he was concerned as damage of that extent wouldn't be solved by the basic healing spells completely. He then spoke in elvish again. "Well glad to see your are able to move again, though I do recommend you don't move too quickly. Wounds that block feeling or movement in the body are not something to be reckless with. Knew a friend once who didn't trust that ended up maiming his left arm for life. Let us move into the woods a bit out of sight and then you stay still and lets bandage those holes in you up properly. Magic doesn't heal things up instantly and I don't think the low level used here will have healed it all up. Hmm.... I think I have a bit of salve that will at least help a bit with any pain you still have. Meanwhile why don't you tell us how you came to annoy those bandits and what your thoughts on a good way to take them out. Though if we can lure them against the lake I can use my stronger magics and finish this quickly. The major question is how."

As he spoke he continued checking over the centaur the best he could with his limited knowledge of the healing arts. Pausing only briefly to grab his pants and shirt to throw back on his body. He also pondered how to take out the large group of bandits coming, with as little damage as possible. He also dug absentmindedly in his bag of holding for some bandages and salve that he knew was in there some where. It would take a few minutes to find though as he didn't use them too often. Soon he was walking into the forest stopping a bit in where the brush would hide them just in case the bandits were faster than expected.

graythorn looked at both the centaur and dragon like man, he had a sense of accomplishment and was ready to take on the rest of the bandit army. he turned to the beast he just helped and smiled. he was glad to see that he could now stand and function better with the arrows out. now standing he took out a arrow and notced it to his bow, turning to both men. i will run into the edge of the woods and hide atop the trees, from there i will cover you two with my bow. with that he was gone in the forest.

the bush ruptured around his feet as he broke the wood line. finding a thick tree he could now here the oncomeing wave of bandits. he began to climp up the tree and took a seat on a over hanging branch, pointing his arrow at the entrence of the gap, he released a arrow, and quickly replaced it with another. just as the arrow shot a bandit broke the tree line and droped dead. the fight had started.
