Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Several twigs snapped underfoot, muffled by the layers of black leaves on the ground. There were easily fifteen men in the area, scouting and tracking. Their quarry was a little girl that was supposed to wander here, though the information had been thrown into doubt. The men had been on this assignment for nearly a week and a half now, on orders from their new leader. They would have given up before, but their orders were solid, not to return without the girl.

A gruff man with a roughly-stitched slash across his cheekbone crouched low in the brush, holding a crossbow in one hand as he got to hands and knees, crawling under a bush. He didn't mind the dirt, his heavily stained leather armor held the grime and miscare of months of no cleaning whatsoever. Something their boss had sworn to change after they came back successful.

He lined up the sights, aiming into the clearing. He and his men had taken up this new position in hopes the girl would show soon, setting up camp nearby. A fire was smoldering in the center of it, some food left out by the bandits.

His plan was simple now, as this girl was causing him much trouble. He would shoot the girl on sight, leaving the body for the spiders to have. He could come back with a trace of clothing and tell him they'd found her dead.

Grinning ecstatically in anticipation, he didn't notice the last man stumbling into position. Nothing could ruin his day.

Sarah hadn't been to the Spiderhaunt in an exceedingly long time, but she thought it would be a good idea. Now that Eliel and Gwen were missing and Mr. Tertius had healed her ankle for her, she thought it would be a good idea to come looking for her dark elf caretaker. She didn't know where else he would be except for somewhere in Norwood, and she'd been searching for what felt like an eternity.

"Eliel?" she called out for perhaps the fifth-hundredth time. Her will was beginning to diminish and she felt doubtful. Where could he be? Where was Gwen? They couldn't have just abandoned her, neither were so utterly cruel as to do something like that. Her throat was sore, though, and her muscles were beginning to ache. "Gwen! Eliel!" she yelled again, sighing and taking a deep breath. Tears were building up in her eyes and she felt hopeless.

Abandoned... again... was she really that much of a hassle?

She sniffled and sat down in the dirt, not caring that she was getting covered in mud. Life sucked, that was the truth. She took up a handful of mud within her palm and threw it in a random direction before folding her hands, feelings of absolute anger welling inside of her. She wasn't even aware of the nearby danger...

The bandit watched the girl sit down before him, nodding to himself. She matched the description. He raised his crossbow and looked to either side of himself, pointing two fingers at the girl. The men on either side reflected the order to their mates, all fifteen men knowing this was their quarry. The man snickered softly to himself as he aimed the quarrel, licking his lips.

His finger approached the trigger, grinning wildly. With a soft thud, a figure landed next to him, a single, slightly curved black blade cutting the crossbow string. A muddy boot stomped hard between his shoulder blades, the blade coming near, prodding the man's ear.

“We'll talk about this later.”

The voice sent shivers down his spine. It was the drow's voice. With a push, the boot came off as the man stepped into the clearing, all of his blades sheathed. Smiling, the drow walked up to the girl sitting in the mud, a soft look on his face. All around him, bandits scurried off, retreating to the camp to await their punishment.

“Hello, dear. What's the matter?”

Sarah didn't even notice the man aiming at her. All she noticed was when he came through the underbrush, toward her. At first she was elated - he had the same dark skin Eliel did! "E-" But she stopped. It wasn't him. It looked like him, but it wasn't him. Her features fell again and she sighed, looking down and picking at the grass.

"The man who adopted me left me," she said sadly. "I met him here in Spiderhaunt. And I'm looking for him. But he's not here. Do you know a Mister Eliel and his kitty cat Gwen?"

Nemael smiled at her reassuringly as she almost called him Eliel. It was understandable, they were the same height and he wore his hair in the same fashion. But the differences were there. Kneeling down, he bounced on a heel, reaching out to smooth her hair.

“I do, dear. I'm Nemael Usreanac. Eliel adopted me. I'm sorry, but he's gone.”

Nemael spoke kindly, his tone surprising even himself. It was soft, untouched by imaginary guilt for killing the both, impaling the drow and snapping gwen's neck.

Sarah shied away at first when he touched her, somewhat afraid of this stranger. But when he told her they had the same last name, she was relieved, and she hoped he knew where their father was! She... didn't understand though. "Gone?" she asked, cocking her head to the side. "What do you mean gone? He left? Do you know where he went? We have to find him! He might need our help! We can't just leave him wherever he is!"

“I'm sorry, dear. I don't know where he is. They both disappeared a little while ago. I've been looking for them, they're why I'm alive today.” He smiled as she softened to him. “He adopted you too, huh? I guess that makes us brother and sister, love.” He chuckled. “I think they can take care of themselves, though. Why don't you come to visit me in my camp? You look cold.”

He stood up, gesturing for her to follow. Jerking his head to the forest, he winked. “Let's go then, sister.” He chuckled, opening an arm to guide her.

"You don't?" Her voice broke, and she could feel tears stinging her eyes. She cursed softly, lifting her clean wrists to her eyes and sniffling, trying to make herself stop. Her heart was aching, although she hated to admit that she could actually be this weak. "We've got to look harder! We have to find someone to help us look!"

She took a deep breath as he recognized her as family, though. "My brother?" She'd never had siblings before. It was a little less lonely knowing she had someone that cared.

She stood up slowly, taking Nemael's hand. "Where's your camp? Is daddy there?"

“He's not, I'm sorry. And I live a little bit away from here. And I have a family, too! You're a member of that family now.” He smiled, nodding his head. He squeezed her hand softly and rubbed the back with his thumb. “There are a lot of men, but they won't hurt you. I adopted them all, like daddy.” Nemael looked to the sky.

They passed a hollowed stump, one of his markers for the camp. The top held a gash, poiting off to the right from the center of the wood rings. Turning, he smiled down at her, light slowly becoming visible through the trees.

“What's your name, sis?”

"You have a family?" Sarah asked. "How many people are in this family?" She bit her lip. She already had a sort of family with Seth, she didn't want to just leave him - but Nemael was her brother, what was she supposed to do?

"I'm Sarah," she said. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you before. It's a kind of boring name, not like Nemael. Or Gwen." She looked down sadly. "I'm gonna miss that kitty..."

Nemael smiled warmly. “You don't have to stay with all sixteen of us, f course. But i'd like it if you stopped by every once in a while, when you're around.” He nodded to the shadows. “Sarah's a lovely name.” The drow looked at her, frowning at her sad look. Stopping, he knelt down, looking at her with both hands on her shoulders.

“It'll be okay, dear.” He opened his arms, offering to hug her. “Maybe I can come visit your family, too?”

"Of course I will!" she said. "I'll stop by whenever you want me to, Nemael! You're my brother, so of course I will." Sarah smiled up at him, offering him all the trust a ten-year-old girl could ever hope to give.

She looked him in the eye when he knelt down and put his hands on her shoulders. "Are you sure it will be?" she asked softly, stretching her arms to wrap them around Nemael and pulling him close. "Yeah, sure! I'm staying at the... Aula place... it's near Cascadia Lake. Seth runs it," she said with a nod.

Nemael hugged her tight, not caring if his men could see him or not. They knew who he really was. It wasn't too difficult, his acting could do with some improvement, but he could pull off a caring, loving sibling well enough for the ten year old girl in his arms. After a moment, he stood.”i'm sure.” Glancing to the fire, he realized how late it was getting.

“You can spend the night with us, if you want. You look tired.” Nemael strode into the clearing, past the break in the ring of tents. The inside was large, a large fire in the middle, several chairs and bales of hay about. His tent was across the space, a large red deal.

"And in the morning, maybe i can take you home."

If Nemael was sure, then Sarah supposed she had no reason to not believe him. She would just have to trust him, which wouldn't be very difficult, considering he was family. "All right," she said, swallowing roughly and forcing herself to forget her tears. Big girls didn't cry over every little thing, even if love was more of a big thing than a little thing...

She nodded slowly, looking around and absorbing their surroundings. "I'll stay," she said. "Where do you want me to sleep?" There were a lot of tents, but she assumed everyone else was sleeping there. "I can just sleep out here, I'll try to find a dry spot. And I'd appreciate it if you could take me back to the guild in the morning... I don't ant Seth to worry about me."
