Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The sick smell of the place was driving Aiden wild as he struggled to wade through the ankle deep marsh mud. "This is ridiculous," he muttered, cursing his horrible luck. "They could at least have a sign to warn you of this blasted place. I wonder how many people have wandered in here in have never been seen again?"

He berated himself for getting caught in such a place without realizing it beforehand. Some ranger, he thought bitterly. Somehow I manage to make a three day trek through the woods into what could be a three day nightmare. What a horrible day this has been! No doubt, his journey to the Taras ruins would be delayed by days, a fact that his superiors would not be very happy about.

His boots made a sick squelch as he made painful progress through the marshland. While he knew the area, Aiden had never found himself unfortunate enough to actually be caught here. At least it's not too far until this thing starts giving way to solid ground again, he thought, hoping the idea of getting out of this place would motivate him to move faster. But no matter what happy thoughts he conjured up, he couldn't help but feel apprehensive in this sullen place. Little sunlight filtered through, casting the entire area in a deep shadow. Strange noises emanated from the odd, twisted trees of the marsh. A strange, thin fog hung over the place, only heightening the gloomy feel of Hauntwood.

"I can see why how this place got its name," Aiden said softly, making sure to keep his hand close to the hilt of his sword. Who knew what strange things lurked out here. . .

OOC: Sorry it's kinda rushed/detail-less lol. It should be a good starter tho...

The marsh it self seemed to sigh as magic flowed throughout it. An unfelt wind seemed to stir through the trees as they spoke to all who care to hear. To Aiden's misfurtune his ears would be able to pick up their chatter too.

"He's a scrumptous looking one isn't he?" Called out a sagious voice that seemed to come from a nearby tree, but there was not creature amongst it's limbs and leaves.

"He's nice and tall, should have lots of blood in him," Another tree added from Aiden's other side.

"We were rooted for the fight of his lifetime," chimed in excited voices from all around.

"Master's coming for yous."

"You're gonna die, You're gonna die, You're gonna die," sang tiny plants from small islands of dry land scattered across the muck and waters.

Above the treetops Vernon heard the chatterings of the plantlife as well. Those nearest to him pointed out the elven intruder and begged him to given them some of the blood. Why did elves always have to show up when he was hungry and bored? It was almost as if they were reading his mind. Vernon grinned at the thought as he commaded his bats to go after the elf.

"The Master of The Marsh is here!" the plantlife seemed to chime in at once just before the trees above seemed to move their branches to let in more sunlight. Mere seconds was all that was needed to see what the opening was trully for. The foul green sleigh felwin through the hole with swarm of of bats flying beneath it.

"You elves, Just can't stop coming into my marsh, can you? What stupid reason got you mired in the place of your death?" Vernon snickered over the bats that steadily lowered the sleigh to the ground. He didn't care for the answer, the elf was gonna get eatten anyway course he might have a reason play with the elf a bit before chow. He didn't need a reason, but sometimes it made playtime more fun.

Aiden heard what he thought were whispers drifting in over the marsh. However, the fog obscured his view and kept him from seeing whatever or whomever was making the noises. "What unfortunate person besides me would be out here anyway?" he muttered softly. Nonetheless, he tightened the grip on his sword as he continued forward.

By his estimation, he was maybe half a mile away from the closest patch of dry ground...but at the rate he was moving, it might take him the better part of a day to cover the distance. "This is ridiculous," he said again, noting how the marsh mud almost sucked the boots from his feet as he moved. Secretly, he hoped that he wouldn't have to move in a hurry should something bad happen. If he did, it wouldn't be a stretch to say the movement would be close to impossible.

Unfortunately for him, trouble seemed to show up soon after as eh finally caught sight of a set of gnarled, twisted trees before him. As Aiden peered forward, he could only think that the eerie voices were coming from the plants themselves and not a person.

"What do we have here?" he whispered, again peering forward as he was greeted by a strange sight. Before him, The treetops seemed to part as a green sleigh descended to the marsh surface.

"You elves, Just can't stop coming into my marsh, can you? What stupid reason got you mired in the place of your death?"

Wonderful, Aiden thought, Just plain wonderful. I knew today was going to be a bad day for some reason. He drew his sword quickly and held it just to the side as he prepared to gather magic energy in his other hand. "And who, might I ask, are you?" he said aloud, trying his best to remain confident before the rather intimidating sight before him. . .

The Marsh seemed to gasp at the insolent fools words. Not only had he not attempted to answer the question before asking his own, but the fool was also too stupid to know who Vernon was, even after his arrival had been announced.

"Elves are such stupid creatures."

"No Manners either."

"He desrves a slow and painful death."

"You're gonna die, You're gonna die, You're gonna die," The small flowers continued chanting cheerfully.

"You are speaking to Master Vernon, Master of the Marsh and Lord of all that is Vile, show some respect you dumb little intruder," The Plantlife seemed to say once more in unison.

"I thought Elves were supposed to good with listening to nature. you've already been told who I am, but this is my Marsh. I make the rules. I ask the questions. You would be wise to answer. I might be decided to be a bit more merciful in your punishment. Why are you in my Marsh?" Vernon snickered as the bats below the sleigh were only a few inches away from the muck. In on hand Vernon held his crossbow, the other held his whip. Theelf was dressed like a ranger, but what ranger would be dumb enough to be caught in a marsh, let alone his marsh. Had to be a bounty hunter, and likely an amateur at that. Likely had some skill with blade and magic, but Vernon doubted the ranger was very good with either. The spell the foolish elf was apparently weaving didn't seem to be very powerful or complicated and Vernon paid it little mind.

Aiden looked around in confusion as he struggled to comprehend what had happened. He had no idea that the marsh belonged to anyone. As many times as he'd gotten lost here, he'd certainly never heard of such an owner. Nonetheless, that didn't make the situation any less threatening. The elf decided to try and smooth things over while he attempted to think of a way out of the situation.

"My name is Aiden," he said, "I'm not in your marsh by choice of course. I simply got lost on my way out of the woods. I know it's ironic...but unfortunately, even rangers get lost from time to time." Looking around for a few seconds, Aiden continued, "Would you happen to know the way out of this place? It'd be a great help if I could get out of here rather soon."

Meanwhile, Aiden held what magic he had and prepared for a fight in case he was forced into one. While he had no idea what his chances of survival was in such a place, he wouldn't be going down without a fight. . .

"Any ranger that gets lost, isn't much of a ranger at all."

"Rather ironic for on who won't be much of anything soon," The sagious Cypresses laughed.

Vernon agreed with his plantlife, he had raised it well. The Ranger should have known to turn back the moment the trees changes, or if he had the minimal inteligence required for the title, when the firm soil turned soft, mucky, and parasite infested. "The Differences between the the forest and quite like night and day. Any ranger worth his salt would know well enough to avoid a marsh, particularly when we reffer to my marsh," Vernon snickered. He wondered what an elf tasted like when he wasn't worth his salt.

"There are many ways out of my Marsh, most would be considered....unpleasent for yourself, but I will at least find them enjoyable. Should you wish to have one of the more pleasent exits you will give me a gift now. A gift to show the worthiness of your life," Vernon grinned. Didn't matter what the gift was, the elf was still going to die. Wood elves simply tasted too good to just...let go.

Aiden had become fed up with their exchange. He knew from this...thing's face that he wouldn't be getting out of here without a fight. Sheathing his sword, Aiden clapped his hands together and stood as tall as he could. "If you won't let me out of here, then I suppose that I'll have to find my own way out of this place," he said threateningly. He concentrated the energy he had gathered and focused hard. "Aelaestaelar!" he shouted, stooping low to the ground and slamming his hand into the murky marsh mud. Despite the initial repulsion, Aiden paid it little attention as the mud below him began to churn, then stink as bubbles, then steam began to erupt.

A wave of stink flooded the marsh as the mud quickly gave way to a gaping hole. "I won't go down easily," Aiden said confidently as his beloved fire elemental emerged from the hole to answer its master's call. The elemental, standing in the shape of an almost lion-like figure strode forward and stood by Aiden's side. It gave a roar which echoed through the nearby trees, for the moment even drowning out the taunts of the marsh creatures.

"Your move," Aiden said, drawing his sword once again and preparing for an
attack. . ."

OOC: I'm hoping that fire elementals don't have to be a certain shape or anything. I like my idea lol.

Vernon was unimpressed, but that wasn't to say he wasn't annoyed. The plantlife seemed to gasp and hush at the immergence of a firey beast. Aside from getting the plants to be quite, the move wasn't a smart one. The soaked mud would deal with the elemental before Vernon ever had to. Vernon opted to make this foolish slip much more apparent to the elf had yet to prove he wouldn't go down easily. He growled meancingly as his his tail thrashed about. "I hope that isn't all that will stop you from falling easily, or you might be in for a rude awakening before your death," Vernon snickered as water began to collect beneath Aiden and the fire elemental. Water from all around drew towards the pair as if they were magnets. The fire elemental would swiftly be ousted by the water and Aiden would find combat and doging increasing in difficulty with every passing moment.

A twang came from Vernon's crossbow as bolt was fired at the elf after the spell's casting. He aimed for the elf's leg. Moving it in a timely fashion would be quite diffucult if not impossible. If it did hit, it wouldn't be anything vital. He didn't want his elf to die before playtime really started.

Not matter how Aiden tried to spin it, this wasn't looking good. He hadn't realized how little the elemental would help in such a wet environment. Small whisps of steam were already beginning to form around the elemental's feet as it stood beside him. Not good, he thought, just as Vernon fired his crossbow at his feet.

Aiden realized that any move to avoid the bolt would be near impossible in his current state. He quickly gave a short whistle, causing his fire elemental to cover the short distance between them and intercept the wooden bolt with a fiery paw. Despite the temporary save, Aiden could see that the move placed him in a still worse position. Either way, his summon would soon be extinguished within seconds due to the gathering water. He would have to think of a way out of here quickly, otherwise his one advantage, small as it was, would disappear as well. . .

"No smart remark? No witty come back? Don't tell me you accepted your doomed fate so soon," Vernon snicked as he tossed the crossboy to his back seats. He handed his whip to his tail as he rearmed himself with a sling shot. He aimed with a green pellet not at the fire elemental, but rather above it instead. The pellet struck the branch Vernon aimed for before showing it true nature and showering the area bleow in acid. Chances were the elf would be caught in the blast and the acid would mark the elemental's end. Wouldn't be deadly for the elf, but certainly would be very painful. If that trully was the best idea the elf had the creature would likely be attempting to run, not that the mrash let anyone do that very well. There was no where for the elf to hide. The trees spied on him, Vernon's nose smelled him, and Vernon had means of 'seeing' past the fog and steam.

"You should surrender now, I might make playtime a little less painful," Vernon lied. He'd actaully found a number of fools to fall for the trick. It was amusing, but not enough to spare the fun, though occassionally he did let victim's go as he had to have somebody go out and spread his noteriety. He wasn't in the mood though to bestow such a fortunous fate on the elf in marsh now, though. He doubted the elf would give in anyways. He'd likely try to fight or run as long as he could hold his sword.

"You should surrender now, I might make playtime a little less painful."

Aiden mentally scoffed at the idea, preferring to go down rather than simply surrender. As the acid fell through the air, Aiden brandished his sword and charged forward. "I'm sorry my friend," he muttered as he mentally ordered the elemental to his side. The fiery creature leapt into the air above Aiden's head, using its body to shield its master as Aiden continued forward towards Vernon. Its final roar echoed through the marsh as the temporary cover provided Aiden with enough time to escape the brunt of the corrosive liquid.

He grimaced slightly as tiny flecks of the acid hit his hand and areas of his exposed arm. Gotta make sure to avoid that stuff, he noted mentally as he continued his head-on attack. His progress was slow, but it didn't matter at the moment. Aiden had one final trick up his sleeve that would either work or help Vernon finish him off quickly. Whatever happened, this fight would be over once and for all. . .

So much time to act, So many options. He could fire another pellet and there would be nothing guarding the elf from it this time, but that would be too easy. He could just lean back and watch the elf tire himself out in the marsh, but he was in the mood for action. Venron tossed aside the sling shot and armed his hands with his sword and his whip. Curious as to exactly how futile this reckless charge was, Vernon hopped down into the marsh himself. When the elf was in range Vernon would be sure to give him a taste of his whip first. One strike though wouldn't be enough to stop the flow of magic, but Vernon doubted the Elf had any other worthwhile spells or he might have seen them by now. This looked like a last stich effort. Chances were Vernon would only get one good shot with the whip before having to rely on the blade, unless there was a bit more planning to the attack involved.

With the elemental gone, the marsh resumed it's heckling. "How, cute the elf wants to go out in a blaze of glory."

"I don't know why he thought conjuring fire would be a good idea."

"Maybe it was for a brain addled with fear," the cypresses snickered with glee.

Damn right, Aiden thought back in reply, continuing his charge forward across the marsh. The cakey mud clung to his boots, adding a tremendous weight which threatened to drag him down onto the murky surface if he wasn't careful. But Aiden was a proud elf--he wouldn't let a little thing like mud stop him from reaching his goal.

As he approached Vernon, he noticed that his opponent drew out both a whip and a sword in preparation for close quarters combat. The whip will his first, the elf thought as he charged, already bringing his free hand up in order to block the glancing attack. Aiden trusted his reflexes and his instincts when it came to countering the whip's attack. But the problem would be defending against Vernon's sword strikes. While Aiden was no slouch with the blade, this man would no doubt be better if he was able to so confidently predict Aiden's demise.

We'll see how right he was soon enough, I suppose. As the whip's end came closer, Aiden shot his free left hand up and in front of his body. Using his extremely quick reflexes, the elf deftly caught the lower length of the whip in midair and continued his forward charge. At the same time, he wrapped a portion of the whip around his wrist and hand, giving a hard tug and hoping that Vernon would be caught off balance and unable to counter quickly. . .

Vernon was caught off gaurd when the elf actually managed to grab hold of the whip. That clearly wasn't supposed to happen. Blasted cheating elf was tying to make the attack to his advantage, but Vernon's surprise departed in time for Vernon to seize the oppurtunity laid before him. Vernon grasped the whip's handle tightly and pulled hard. The sinister game of tug-o-war would no doubt be to his benefit, afterall Vernon packed the strength of the were. The elf's act of wrapping his hand around the whip only made matters worse for him and made it more likely for him to be caught off balance, while Vernon still had the option of easily letting go of the whip. The muck came to both of their aid, but the foolish elf still had a little foward momentum from his charge, granting another favor to Vernon's pull.

Vernon's blade drooled in anticipation. As soon as the Elf was drawn in close The blade would make a strike to the Elf's sword hand in hopes of amputating it or perhaps even cutting off a few fingers. Vernon didn't want to deliver a blow that would kill the elf and end playtime before it began, but he didn't want the elf to have a chance at cutting him with the blade either. Vernon's tail hid behind his back with a dagger waiting to peirce the elf's side. It's poison wouldn't be active yet as Vernon didn't want to limit his playtime.

"Looks like that blaze isn't going to last very long."

Aiden silently cried out in satisfaction as Vernon took the bait and yanked hard on the whip. The elf suddenly came forward faster as the momentum of his forward charge combined with Vernon's pull on the whip. Together, it allowed for Aiden to somewhat nullify the drag of the marsh mud on his feet and move as fast as he needed.

Hoping that his suddenly increased speed, as negligible as it was, would allow him enough time to land a surprise attack. He raised his blade in anticipation of Vernon's counterattack with his own sword. At the same time, Aiden twisted in the air to bring a booted foot up and forward. His aimed his kick towards the arm which held the whip, hoping for any advantage which might turn the tide...as bleak as the situation was, he thought any slight advantage would be immensely beneficial. . .
