Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Gabe stooped low towards the ground too turn over a small piece of outlying moss. A larger clump of the green fungus hung from a rock a small walk away so Gabe reasoned that the wind or some animal must have nocked the small piece over here. The priestly druid figured he would immediately recognize the plant now laying in his hand but even after Gabe examined it fully, he could not get a grasp of what strain of moss it was. Gabe Saporta, for all of his childish behavior and drinking problems, was well trained in the art of plant identification so he was truly stunned when this specific plant eluded him.

Moving his hand in a small pattern while chanting under his breath, Gabe called out to his god, Meleko, in a loud voice before forcing the small bit of moss to grow unnaturally fast. Immediately, Gabe realized that this plant had been augmented with some magical powers beyond anything Gabe had ever seen or even heard of before. The plant was dark and sinister in an undistinguishable way but there was clearly something horribly wrong with the forest all about him. Saporta's face was one of complete terror and horror but Herbert had expected this all along.

A mage of incredible power had come to this woods many years ago to claim it as his own and had demented the whole area and the surrounding woods with the cunning and cynical magic. Herbert had studied the man for the last few months, watching his every move so that in the near future, Herbert would be able to kill of the mage and take all of his considerable arcane powers.

Herbert had already been through the area as Jaka the vampire in a fake meeting with some deadly and evil druids. Jaka had asked them to join him in a raging battle with the Shadow Society while Herbert had coaxed a few memories from the creatures about the ever elusive and ever powerful mage.

Now, Herbert was here as Gabe Saporta, a lowly floramancer who had simply come to study the flora and fauna of the area. Herbert would not have been surprised to find one of the various evil creatures lurking about in hopes of ensnaring and gobbling up Gabe as a morning snack. So when he heard the crack of a stick a few feet away, Gabe turned about slowly already expecting to have to wage war with some evil tree-ent or a vicious worg.

The crack was followed by more noise as a woman stepped away from a mundane looking tree. The ground beneath her feet was only covered in loose leaves. Perhaps the culprit twigs were hidden by the rotting plant material, or perhaps something else was at work. It was likely not of importance: Kallix stared into the eyes of the lone man who was wandering through the woods. She did not break her gaze, but she still noticed the strange plant that he held in his hand. She wore revealing attire that exposed her waist and shoulders. It almost appeared to be made of vines. Small, rainbow colored flowers spotted her natural dress, which seemed to provide a curious contrast to her blonde hair. A large flower, matching those that covered her dress, was tucked into her ear as an accent.

She took a few steps forward before giving the man a playful smirk. "You will not be needing that, traveller."

Kallix seemed to remain motionless, but the moss began to wither and decay into a lifeless mass of mulch. Her green eyes almost seemed to light up by an internal power, but it was gone in a simple blink. She ran the tip of her tongue across the insides of her lips as she considered the stranger. An orange mist drifted up and away from the moss as it rotted.

"That is something no one needs," she continued after a brief pause.

Gabe could not sense what had just transpired as the shapely woman came out of the woods. However with a single glance down at the pile of decomposed mold, a kinda of oxymoron as mold simply existed to decompose, in his hand, Herbert realized that some type of magic similar to his own floramancer magic was at work. While the mage could only guess that this wandering woman was the one responsible for the magic, Herbert was unsure if possibly the strange magics of the powerful mage was the reason for the decomposition of the moss he had been holding.

"Yes, I can't say ugly things are my fancy. Now, beautiful ladies and lads are more taste," Gabe said with a whimsical smile marking his handsome face. With a flamboyant turn, the druid flipped his beautiful and magical cape over to his other shoulder in a seamless fashion as he moved forward to approach the lady before him.

"And what is the name of such a fair maiden wandering about these haunted woods?" Gabe said but before either of them had a chance to say anything else, the bush besides the two exploded in a shower of dirt. In it's place stood a ferocious looking tree-ent that easily stood over ten feet tall.

"I think I can wait to learn your name for just a moment," Gabe said with a giggle before turning to face this fearsome creature.

Kallix almost rolled her eyes but was quickly distracted by the loud noise coming from the bush beside them. She was hit by a shower of dirt. Some of it stuck to her moist skin - it was a humid day in the forest. Kali would deal with the inconvenience later.

Without a word, the vines of her dress grew outward at an astounding pace. The few flowers seemed to grow in number and started to show a myriad of colors. As the vines wrapped across the rest of her body, which seemed to need only a few more seconds to complete the journey, she gave a quick smirk. Her precious flowers were already beginning to respond to her commands. While she was still occupied with forcing more of the curious buds to bloom on the newly covered parts of her body, she could make out the familiar aroma of their spores from the first instant.

The aroma was faint but potent. She directed it toward the ent, waiting for it to take effect. She eyed some of its lower branches, deciding she did not know this ent in particular. Of course, that would not matter once she had the beast under her spell.

(OOC: Starting to use the "charm" spores.)

Gabe sat back and watched the display of another user using the floramancy. She was obviously highly skilled at the plants about her came to her call in a matter of seconds and multi-tasked in such away that even Gabe would have trouble with. Gabe had been a second rate floramancer only a few weeks ago but with the help of Herbert's incredible arcane intelligence, Gabe had learned all the powerful and deadly tricks of the art.

"Oh lala, you are quite the esteemed druid, I can see," Gabe said with customary Saportian flair as he recognized the properties of the spores she was releasing. They allowed the distributer to control those who inhaled the powerful pollen. Herbert knew it to be a deadly skill seeing as he had created chaos throughout a whole city with just one use of the might pollen.

"Well, you seem to have everything under control, don't you? My name is Gabe Saporta, follower of the god Meleko, and who do I have the pleasure of addressing?" Gabe said without a second thought about the ent as he knew that the pollen would be practically impossible to resist.

The ent lurched forward but was unable to smash into Kallix before the spores had taken effect. First, it slowed. Then, it stood tall without any obvious urge to move ever again. Kallix only gave it a brief smile before it turned around and slowly tromped back into the woods.

"Please follow him and make sure he knows where to go," Kallix stated to no one in particular. The bushes in the distance began to shake as at least one creature moved quickly toward the direction of the ent.

Kallix turned to face Gabe, having ignored him during this process. Her face moved from hard and serious to something a little more playful.

"I'm Kallix," came a quick reply. "You can call me Kali!"

She brushed the hair from her face before continuing, "I'm sorry about that, I was grumpy. I was trying to find that ent for days! Though, you still had no business with that flower, right?"

Her face was covered in a smile, though her eyes seemed to indicate that her mood would change again if he had actually been searching for that particular plant.

Gabe noticed the brush move as the creature of some sorts scrambled away after the obviously bewitched ent. Herbert had not been sure if the spores would work against creatures so akin to the spores themselves but it was quite obvious now that Kallix had already discovered that they worked just fine in controlling the ent. If the magic would have failed, Kallix would have surely been smashed to bits by the creatures heavy blow.

"That's a cute name, Kali," Gabe said to himself mostly but it was obvious that he was already trying to cozy up to this other floramancer.

"Ah do not worry about the ent, I am just here to observe the very odd and rather dark plant life that seems so abundant in this area," Gabe said as he stooped down to pick up what looked like a dandelion but literally burnt the druid's finger when he attempted to pluck it from the ground.

"That is so odd, a simple dandelion that burns at the touch. I have never heard of such an odd species in my life but then again it seems like this area had even more mutated species than one could believe," Gabe said with a chuckle.

"I was wondering if you knew anything about why these changes are occurring to the wildlife.

"Thanks," Kallix said while blushing. She looked around the forest as though she was now searching for something else while Gabe tried to pick up the flower. She held back her giggle when he pulled back in alarm.

"I only know what I've been told," Kallix replied as Gabe tried to get information about the forest. "And what I've been told has been little better than rumor. As far as I can tell, the forest spirit in this area has been tainted somehow."

She chose not to go more in depth about the forest spirit. It was an entity that she had been intimately aware of since her birth, one living in each forest. Kali fought a shiver when she considered the implications.

"I know of no creature with sufficient power to even reach the forest spirit, never mind curse her in a manner such as this. You may observe these monstrosities as much as you like, Herbert, but I warn you that this forest holds no happiness. I have searched, like you, with only an empty hand to show for it."

"You speak of these spirits but do you speak of the various nymphs that live about in practically every forest but I doubt that as they way you talk of them, you imply something larger or more powerful," Gabe said, wanting confirmation from this intriguing druid about what exactly she was actually taking about.

"As for why I am here, I am here to collect information regarding ever level of this interesting change in the forest and if possible, find out the exact source of the power seeing as you stated prior, it must be quite powerful indeed," Gabe said putting his head in his hand to ponder what in the world could ever have such a large aura to change the very nature of the plants of an entire forest. It was something that would be a kin to a god's power and that worried Gabe immensely as he had yet to reconvene with his god. The fear that Meleko had died was always a possibility and the fact that something a kin to a god had gone to work on this forest, frightened Gabe dearly.

"Are these spirits you speak of gods?" Gabe said as he looked at the equistevly dressed figure in front of him and wondered what she was doing in this forest other than just coming to meet with a wild ent.

"I am afraid that what you find may only produce nightmares, Gabe. There are creatures here, terrible beasts, that have shaken me to my core," Kallix commented when she considered collecting information in the forest. "But perhaps, if you are strong and willful enough to remain here and complete your goal, you may discover what has happened here. In that task, I wish you luck."

Kallix stopped and watched Gabe with a smile. She was happy to discover that this man meant no harm. She had been chasing and been chased by so many terrors in the last few days that her nerves were on edge. She considered his question silently as she pulled a single seed from a pouch that was hidden near her lower back. It was mundane in every sense, but she held it like it was her own child. She bent down slowly and created a divit in the ground with her finger. She slipped the seed into its new resting place and then covered it with loose soil.

Within moments, a seedling began to rise from the dirt.

"No, I do not think of the spirit as a god, though she is immortal according to many legends. She is a creature of magic, not unlike dragons or unicorns, except she draws her life from the magic of the forest. When a forest grows, the life-magic seeps into the magic of the land and begins converting it into new growth. As the birth of the forest continues, the magic begins to cycle from dying plants back into the soil from which it was taken. It is said that some of this magic cannot return to the land for it has been changed by its proximity to the spark of life, and this new magic accumulates to create a new forest spirit. As the forest ages, she matures, and she spreads her love into the flowers and trees so that they remain strong and beautiful."

Kallix watched as the single plant blossomed into a beautiful red flower. She had only enough time for a smirk before the forest took hold of her new creation. The plant buckled under its own weight and the petals became as black as night. Kallix sighed and the plant began pulling itself back into its seed.

"This spirit has been hurt. She is sad. With her tears, the forest will die, and I cannot allow that to happen."
