Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The storm was long a and heavy, the drops easily the size of a mans thumb. The blackish blue clouds, flashing with occasional lightning that danced only between the floating water laden entities and not between the heavens and the earth. This torrent turned an already dark night into one that few people would want to find themselves in. The rain not only beat upon the back of any wear traveler, it created small rivers and lakes where normal dry dust and dirt used to lay. Least of all, one would not expect a lone wielder of the arts of flame to sit dormant upon the steps of an ancient cathedral.

Lynthaer had sat upon the rocks for most of the night, since the cascade from the heavens had begun. It was undoubtedly around the middle of the night, the period when demons and evil ones were supposed to rejoice and ravage. Lynthaer had hardly moved over the last few hours. One again, he had left the land to vent his frustrations elsewhere, and once more had returned. however, he knew that every time he did this, what he knew had changed somewhat, confusing him and leaving him behind in many ways. As it was with this return, he did not know where to go, or who to seek. Aether would be the logical choice, but he put such a strain on her, he figured that he would let the lovely woman be at peace from him for the moment. No doubt Rothardan was still after his heart, and who knew who else wanted what could be called his life. These thoughts, among others, had circled around his mind. These thoughts caused indecision, thus he had chosen this place, one of solitude, for the night to sit and wonder about what he would.

Eyes forever red and burning, though somewhat dull at the moment, stared blankly into the abyss of the night. He could see nothing beyond a few paces, and doubted anyone else that would chance could either. However, he also knew that his glowing orbs would be a beacon for any curious being out tonight, and was expecting someone or something to chance by at any moment. For once he didn't mind. He did not want confrontation at the moment, but maybe someone who knew the current state of the land and wouldn't recognize him. He kept his face covered so often, that when it was exposed like tonight, he doubted many would know it. Plus, they would need unbelievably amazing eyesight to see it. So for the moment, Lynthaer was content will being still

Chaos hated rain; it was one of the many things he did not like in life and was not afraid to admit it. After all being a dark being, wielder of fire and overly aggressive brute was nothing that worked in the rain; it hindered him and held him back in most situations. He was overjoyed when he laid his eyes on the great ruined Cathedral in the ruined yard. He had been here twice before, taking both chance to rest and regain his strength. But this night it would be needed even more. As a safe haven from the devilish rain that followed him in this land. All day Chaos had been running from a band of robbers he had met on the docks in Taras, and they had found it a good idea to chase him down and ruin his life. Although he could have taken many of them he felt it wise to just run and not cause any more destruction than he had already did. So his journey brought him here, in the city that once was a great city, filled with life. It was now a ruined land of rock and stone, laid out with empty remains. Not many people came by this way so it was a good place to seek shelter from the rain and find a nice corner to nap in.

Sitting in one of the dark corners he rolled up in one of the cloaks he had and closed his eyes. The pitter patter of rain outside kept him up, but at least he was dry. There in the dark silence he began to think, many thoughts of evil and death filled his mind it was hard to even think about going to sleep any more. He remembered the first day he had come here, when he was still a prisoner of Zion and had no free will. And at last the second visit here was when he had conquered Zion and took the body over. So both events were very important to Chaos. He loved thinking about how he took that kids body and turned it into a tool of destruction for his own use. His thoughts were running faster and faster in his head when suddenly a drop of cold water splashed his face. Chaos sprang from his resting place and looked up into the dark ceilings of the Cathedral. Above him in the rafters so high was a leak, allowing small drips of water to beat down on his head. Now he was pissed, no matter where he went the damn rain found a way to get him.

He had enough, he could not take it. With a grumble he stood and headed outside for the front of the Chapel. He was going to stand there and just complain all night, killing any wild beast he saw fit to just unleash his anger on. But when he got to the destroyed entrance he saw no wild animal, but a man, sitting there on the steps drenched in rain. Placing a hand on his holy dagger he stepped forward slowly, trying to figure out just how deadly this man was. A dim red glow was coming from his, like a fire inside of the man. Chaos felt power from him and was ready to spring a sneak attack when a noise startled him from above. A flock of crows flew from the tops of the building, letting out loud caws that sent a moment of surprise through the demon. He himself let out a growl and turned back to the man, who was sure to have heard him there by now.

Eyes glazed over, staring blankly into the night, Lynthaer had no way of knowing he was not alone at the moment. The rain grounded any and all smells that might have alerted him to anothers presence, and though his eyesight was good, the night was black as tar. Only the flock of birds taking flight and a growl alerted him to the new comer. Blinking, he cast a spell without thought. Sparks flew out into the night, and he expanded them into a small flame he held under the ruins of the cathedral. He did not feel like fighting the weather to keep it alive tonight.

Expanding it so that the light was cast far enough to see whom ever had decided to disturb him, he stood. The weight of his soaked clothing pulled at his shoulders, and rivers of water ran down his skin. A slight steam rose off of him, his increased body heat evaporating some of the liquid that clung to him.

Facing him was a humanoid creature. Male by build, and wielding a dapper at the moment. The person had apparently taken shelter within the cathedral itself, as he seemed a good deal dryer than Lynth. Besides those immediate traits, Lynthaer could make out nothing else. No nothing of the blades nature, he took a step into the structure so that he could capture the mans scent.

As Lynthaer drew in a breath, his eyebrows rose. He knew the scent of demon well, and this man was saturated with it. Mentally checking where he kept his blessed stakes, he paused a good distance from the man, enough so that he would have to to react if he was attacked. Crossing his arms loosely in front of him he nodded to the man and greeted him. "Good evening to you as well sir." he said simply.

Damn birds, they had taken away his chance for a meal for the night. But he would have to reacted according, for the man that sat on the steps had heard the growl, and was now standing and facing chaos. As chaos stood there, light drops of rain dropping on his dry face he noticed a dim warm glow emitting from the body of the man. And he also could smell the scent of death, and evil. So he gripped his holy dagger even more, for it would play a very good role if a fight were to break out. Unlike chaos most of this man’s body was clothed and hidden, his face unknown to Chaos. As he stepped inside the building, to come closer to Chaos, he spoke words that he almost missed over the beating rain.

Well good evening. I did not see you there, I was simplying trying to find myself out of this mess of ruins and was startled by the flock of crows over head. Of course this was a lie, no one in their right mind would tell someone they were about to attack them and eat their flesh. Btu of course chaos was not in his right mind anyway. He was pissed that he would no longer be able to kill this man with such ease, and now that they knew each other was there it would be a pain to fight it out. Plus chaos could tell this man had power.

Like I said, I am awefully lost, and need assistance getting out of this damn place. Could you possible tell me where the closest village is. For now he would get to know the identity of this man, and see exactly how dangerous he really was. A fight seemed out of the question at this moment, and besides the rain made it extremely hard to venture out anyway. So he would have to stay the night in this broken down place with the company of this man. He didn’t mind either, but now his sleep. would consist of an open eye and a watching full hand.

Lynthaer smiled inwardly. It was possible that the crows had caught the man off gaurd enough for him to draw his weapon. Lynthaer guessed it was more likely he had almost been stabbed, but he had no way to know for sure. He wasn't about to start a duel over it, so he simple nodded in understanding.

Bringing the flame above and between them, he took a closer look at his new companion. Not very remarkable, pale skin and brown eyes. Nothing that would put Lynthaer on edge, but he would remain wary. Even demons were wary around other demons, a lesson he had learned escaping the Abyss, and this was similar. Confrontation was to avoided now though, so Lynthaer would do what he could to put the newcomer at ease.

"Villages? I am unable to direct you to one without daylight." Even then, once he knew the direction he needed to head in he would feed, thus leaving the village useless to outsiders for a while. One traveler coming through and eating 2 or 3 people put villagers on their toes. "However, I would be more than happy to assist you in finding one once the sun comes up." That was, if they both made it through the night alive. By the time the sun came up, Lynthaer's mask would be one, giving away his indentity. Demon or not, this man could still be one of those aiming to slaughter Lynthaer. All the more reason to ease the weapon away and get the man in a position where he didn't feel threatened.

"You can do without the dagger. I mean you no harm at the moment, and if I do, you will likely find out within enough time to react." Or not. He had told many lies in his time, and one more was not going to mean his utter destruction.

So he would have to wait till the morning, apparently his new friend could not direct him anywhere with out sunlight. This striked chaos as strange, but he would not question this mans reasons. He was not in any real rush to get anywhere, his true goal being to rest here in peace. But no matter where he went someone, or something had to show itself. He was never alone anymore.

Well damn, I was hoping to get out of this blasted rain and find a nice warm meal for the night. Guess I wont be doing that huh. Chaos let out a warm chuckle, his mood almost changing instantly. If this man knew that chaos was trying to kill, and eat, him, he showed no sign of knowing. Even by asking chaos to slip his dagger away it seemed this man was no reason to worry, right now. But there was a more pressing matter. The rain was still falling and he was getting wet with every second that past.

So, if we are going to be staying the night here together, I should atleast know your name, correct? Chaos would get to know this man a little better, maybe he would be a very usefull ally in the future, if he didn’t provide for a meal instead. Chaos was still unsure what his future actions would be tonight, but he did know he wanted to live through it.

Lynthaer shrugged at the mans wishes. He wouldn't mind someone to feed on himself, but at the current time such nicety's were unavailable. However, the rain and heat he should be able to do something about. It would mean fighting nature back, something that was never easy to do. But he believed he could hold some of the water at bay. The downpour was beginning to lessen, and there were parts of the cathedral that still offered bit of ceiling to keep one dry. As for the man wanting to know his name, Lynthaer felt he was prepared to be attacked. Already there was a flame alight, and his stakes should prove adequate to injure the man.

Eyes turning up to scan for a solid area overhead, he walked past the man, eyes focused above. His fire followed him, resting above his shoulder. "The meal I am unable to help you with, and even if I you might not approve of my choice in a meal. As for the rain and heat, I can offer my assistance." Spotting bit of the ceiling intact, he direct his gaze to the floor. The rain had soaked everything, but beneath this bit there was a dry spot perhaps and hand width wide. Big enough to dry out a spot. He diricted his flame ahead of him as he walked to the spot. Suddenly the fire was as large as he was, hanging over the place Lynthaer had chosen.

"Now your night shouldn't be so unbearable. As for ho I am, you may call me Lynthaer." Now to prepare for an attack. His ear waited for the sound of rushed movement or some sort of assault from behind. He kept walking onward though. He needn't give away that he was alert to any onslaught from the man.
