Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

  • Raschagal -- in no way, shape, or form -- had acquired the good fortune to be graced with a good day. Not only had she somehow misplaced a few tidbits over the course of her first waking hours, but she had also managed to scald her tongue and deliver a rather nasty wound to her hand. It was not the worst she'd ever had within her seemingly short lifetime, but it was enough to get her to whine. Her somewhat hardened soul didn't allow whining, but if the pain was great enough.. Hell, if there was enough blood, she'd curse up a storm. It didn't make her squeamish, the sight of blood; no, that blood just managed to exact some rather nice-looking stains upon one's clothing.. and Raschagal was not one for washing clothes.

The time had however come to get some food, she decided as she bandaged up her left hand. She hadn't eaten in a day or so, her lounging behavior making her both too lazy to hunt for something and not needing the energy to do so. But she needed nutrients to get back that bit of blood she had lost, she knew that.. Grabbing whatever parcels she had, which was very little, she prepared herself for a trek to Norwood Lake. She had not been there for a while, it would be a nice opportunity for her to see the "sights".. To multitask, if you will. Maybe she could get another nap in.

The sounds of light underbrush crushed underneath her bare feet, the feel of it gathering between her toes to make a small smile spread upon her lips. Nature was her thing, it always had been. That was a part of her that came from her father's side -- the father she had never met. All she knew about the man was what she remembered from her mother's audible ponderings when she was a child. He was a Wood Elf, and through research she learned that they -- as their names obviously foretold -- lived in the woods and were "one with nature". That was why she felt so drawn to living under the protection of the trees; they comforted her, offering her a home no one else could. Raschagal had later in life figured that there was no way she could have survived long in her mother's human village, even if she hadn't been compelled to "drop off" her daughter in the woods one day and completely abandon her..

Bah! she thought, shaking her head to rid herself of her memories. That was the past. It would stay in the past. She couldn't spend her time dwelling on it, especially when danger lurked about every corner.. She let her arm drift behind her, feeling the bow she had strapped to her back, reminding herself to be cautious..

She arrived at the lake, finally, and exhaled deeply for a moment. She needed to get herself some food, and she needed some quickly. Raschagal did not feel like starving to death! (not that she probably would..) She moved to the water's edge, tracing it until she arrived to a dead tree that had wound its way into the relatively calm waters. She quickly found herself a spot to set her things, removing her cloak and all accessories to set them in the little nook. She grabbed an arrow, deciding to do her own little version of spear fishing.. She wasn't particularly good at it, but why the heck not?!

Standing in the water with her pantleg rolled up to her knees, the sun beat down on her darkly tanned skin. She breathed in the calm air, letting her one uncovered eye fall down to the water. She did her best to stay her very stillest, gripping the arrow tightly as she awaited her victims.. She felt the water move about her calves, and the breeze rush by, shifting her dreaded curls about her face. All that was left to wait.. Wait for a fish that probably wouldn't come, or wouldn't allow her to snatch it away.. Or, in the worse scenario, for someone to find her and disturb her meal-catching.

A voice rang out from behind her, softly laughing as it rang out. "I've fished the lake already today; they'll be suspicious. You won't get any fish like that, anyways. If you're interested in some fish, come out of the lake and come here." A man stood by the lake, his skin deathly pale and his eyes a soft, muddy orange. He bowed gracefully, his every movement belieing a subtle confidence. His hair was dark brown, almost black from a distance, and slicked back neatly. He wore a tailored suit of crimson silk, and held a solid black cane in one hand, his fist closed over the top. He looked for all intents and purposes like a nobleman on a stroll.

His voice drifted to her like smooth silk, wrapping her in dulcet tones and soothing her mind. "My name is Baron Samedi, and it is quite the pleasure to meet you. My home is only a few miles away, and we could easily walk there if you'd like." He began to walk across the lake, his footsteps miracuously not even disturbing the surface of the water as he approached her, smiling softly. Once he was close enough to touch Raschagal, he held down his hand, giving a wry chuckle that would've made women swoon. "What is your name, miss?"

  • Raschagal felt the muscles of her arms tense slightly, a chill rushing up her spine. Well, do I ever have a sensation that I'm being watched... she thought to herself, her eye scanning ahead of her for a moment. There was a pause, her head slowly turning from side to side, taking in a larger range of view.. As a voice trailed its way to her she immediately turned, falling naturally into a bit of a defensive stance in the direction of the stranger. Her hair fell ahead of her eyes to cast a shadow over them, taking in every inch of the man. Somehow, as he continued to speak she found herself.. calming.. What the heck was that? That was not normal. Raschagal had always been wary of others; never did she allow someone to get close.

Worst of all, he was putting down her fishing skills! Not that she necessarily had any, but that made her almost want to pout. Not really. But she allowed herself to straighten, her posture stiffening in an attempt to make herself appear taller than she was short, and maybe even a slight bit intimidating. She allowed her eye to quickly flicker in the direction of her things, choosing to protect what little she had if it came down to it.

Dressed in nothing but a thick beige cloth wrapped around her bust and her pants, now semi wet toward the bottom of the rolled-up portion, she probably looked extremely primitive next to this man. But what could you expect from someone who lived out in the wilderness, mostly so within the forests, basically all of her life? She had to use what she could to survive, using mostly primitive means to do so. She had very little in her possession that she did not make on her own. The only things she had bought -- or stolen -- from an actual town or traveling salesman was her bow, a few arrows, her cloak, a small (and extremely dull) dagger, and just a few of the many ornaments that decorated her arms at that moment in time. She wasn't exactly a mistress of state, now was she?

She remained quiet as he continued to speak, somehow finding the man quite likable. That was in no way normal for her, as previously mentioned, and this seemed to frighten her somewhat. She would never let it show, her muscles tightening as the man approached. She could hold her own.. for a while.. Maybe, her mind pondered, her stomach tightening with his chuckle. "...Raschagal is my name, Baron Samedi." That was all she would allow for him at that moment in time.. She did not approve of his invitation, but she did not openly deny it, either.

Yaksha's hand opened and closed invitingly, his height almost blocking out her vision of the sun; it was hard to accurately gauge his height, but he seemed taller than 6 feet, despite being quite thin. The man could weigh no more than 150 pounds, giving him an appearance reminiscent of a praying mantis. His voice drifted down to her again, tugging at her heart and almost leaving it aching from the hurt tone in it. "You don't want my help, Raschagal? I've plenty of food at home, and it'll just spoil if someone doesn't eat with me. There's little company in this forest, and I just want to be neighborly..."

He turned away, walking across the surface of the water swiftly, his long legs seeming not even to touch the water. The man's entire form exuded a supreme competance, as if he was much more powerful than he seemed. He paused at the bank of the lake, turning back with a hurt smile. "If you'd like to come, just call my name. I'm sure I'll hear you from wherever I am. Enjoy yourself, Rashcagal. Forgive me for bothering you." He broke out into a soft jog, sinking into the forest before he began to laugh softly.

  • Raschagal remained rather quiet as he spoke. She was wary of this man. Was he here to honestly provide help for her, even if she didn't really need it? Or was he trying to lure her into his trap, and turn out to be some carnivorous being trying to eat her up or something? She let her eye drift up and down his face as his expressions shifted, her own planted at emotionless. He seemed sincere.. She couldn't help but feel horrible as she pushed him away with all her might, as she sat there as antisocial as she had ever been. She clutched her arm tight at her side, forcing herself not to take his hand. No, Raschagal, do not trust this man!

Yet everything within her was sending flares out to get her to ease up. He was tugging at what heart strings she had left, and she was beginning to soften. Especially as he moved away from her, her arm actually lifted somewhat to reach out toward him -- however, she tugged it down immediately. She could not put down her guard! She did not know this man. She could not allow him to break the barrier she had placed up so many years before. She had to be as hard as she ever had been. She hadn't broken thus far..

Why was it beginning to happen now?

As he broke through the trees, Raschagal surged forward. "Baron Samedi!" As the words came out she wished to take them back. Let him leave, Raschagal! He doesn't know anything about fishing -- you can catch anything you set your mind to! She cursed herself. She couldn't help feeling horrible for her actions.. He seemed sincere enough! She cursed to herself and gathered her things, quickly piling everything onto her form. If she hurried, she may be able to catch his trail, she decided.. Maybe he didn't venture too far.

Yaksha stopped in his return to the home, and turned on his heel. He gave a grin that was between wry and wan, trying to look calm as he almost broke into tears. His voice drifted back with a hint of melancholy, trying to hide it. "I'm here, Raschagal. I see you changed your mind about joining me for lunch? Wonderful, quite wonderful!" His voice cracked at the end, and he shut his eyes as he took several deep breaths. "I'm still here! Follow my voice, and then we can take you to my home, and the best time of your life!" He smirked slightly, full of a devious mischeviousness.

As she broke through the trees, he bowed once more, murmuring soft arcane words as he looked at the ground. He put on a winning smile, looking up as he waved his hand at her; the spell would've washed over her, putting every nerve-ending on fire, and filling her with an all-consuming desire. "If you follow me, I can show you the way to truly enjoy life..." He gave a lascivious wink, and held out his hand once more.

  • She slowed once she heard his voice, her footsteps light and cautious. She still could not be completely sure of this man, no matter how much she felt he backed his words with the sincerity she sensed. There were tricky people in the world.. Thankfully she had not come into contact with people of this sort: demons who fester themselves as innocent travelers, who turn out to be quite the opposite. People who get grins and giggles with the blind suffering of others. But maybe, just maybe he was different.. He was, after all, showing the best intentions. Maybe he wasn't a monster at all. Maybe he could become Raschagal's ally, someone she could confide in when things get rough. A friend, maybe? She had none of those before, unless you count a squirrel she named Mouse a number of years back. Whenever she thought of her hissing fits with the animal, she always felt quite foolish...

She followed his voice as instructed, contemplating this "best time of her life". Considering the fact she had not many experiences, just about anything could be the "best time of her life". Anything was better than what she was living, she realized. Not that she really had a problem with solitude -- it was actually quite fine with her, until he came along.

She noticed him behind a tree, his head bowed, and she maneuvered her way about it to come ahead of him. Just as his head lifted he waved his hand, and she felt a strange sensation overcome her. Her suspicions seemed to melt away, almost.. There was nothing left but a desire that felt strange to her. Never before had she actually wanted to be around another person quite like she did at that moment in time. The voices in her head that had once called out to her to pull back, silenced behind a curtain of iron.

Her single golden eye drifted down to his hand, and her own hand reached out from under her cloak to grasp it. She did not speak another word, though her innards seemed to scream with excitement. Changed seemed like a total good thing for once.

Yaksha's grin was almost devillish now, and he sidled closer, wrapping an arm around her waist and sending a jolt of pleasure surging along her body. He spoke enticingly, his eyes roaming across her figure as he did. "Just how old are you, Raschagal? 50? 60? I imagine that's still quite young for an elf..." He gave a soft laugh, and then extracted his hand slowly, brushing across her buttox as he did. "It's not far to my home, now. I imagine you're simply famished, after the fishing attempt, no?" There seemed to be something else hiding behind his statement, some unseen joke or taunt.

Before she could really contemplate his hidden meaning, a stone temple could be seen up ahead. He bowed just slightly, waving towards it and smiling. "My home is yours for the night, my sweet. My food, my bath, my bed...all yours, if you want it. All I ask in return is that you give an old man a night worth remembering. I don't have many guests, and oh so many of them are dull or drab. Do try to be more fun than them, won't you?"

  • Raschagal was not used to being so close to someone, but there was something that she liked about it. The closeness created almost an intimacy between the two, and with his arm around her waist she could feel a wave of chills climb down her back.It was odd, but felt so right. She let her lips curve upward slightly, the first real sign of light in her otherwise emotionless face. "I'm 76, actually," she purred matter-of-factly. "And.. I'm not exactly an elf. I'm just.. half of one." Her shoulders curved in a bit, showing the fact that she was slightly insecure about the fact. Half-elves were outcasts, and they always had been. That explained why she was dropped off by her mother, and definitely why her father had left them both. Humans and elves aren't to have children together.

"I guess I am.. somewhat hungry," Raschagal mumbled, licking her bottom lip slightly to moisten it. She could feel heat raise to her cheeks as she thought back to her fishing, finding it a bit funny at that moment in time. What was she thinking, she couldn't fish! She must've looked like a complete fool to the man, but hopefully not too much of one. It was probably a good sign he had shown some kind of interest in her. She did catch a hint of something in his words, and her brow furrowed just a bit as she thought it over. . .

Her eye caught something up ahead, and her head raised to take it into view. This was his home, it seemed. As he began to spoke she looked to him, a hand absent-mindedly pulling a curl behind one slightly-pointed ear. Her gaze returned to the home as he continued, and her smile widened. "I must admit.. I'm not used to this, socialization. You'll have to forgive me.." She bit her bottom lip lightly for a moment, before her sight returned once again to him.

Yaksha raised an eyebrow, his voice softly surprised. "76? You do look wonderful for that age, elf, human, or otherwise." He grasped her shoulder, squeezing it gently, and giving an understanding nod. "Still, it's hard being of two worlds. I would know myself. But enough of all this depressing talk, I think it's time for food!" He clapped his hands excitedly, bounding towards the door of the temple quickly; his feet seemed to touch the ground only by coincidence, as he swiftly approached the stone doorway. The door opened quickly before he even lay a hand on it, and he stooped to get under the doorway, chuckling softly.

He promptly strode towards the kitchen, humming softly to himself. It was a song that sounded oddly jovial and friendly, but any who knew the song would've detected a hint of a sinister tone. He finally broke out into words as he grabbed a bowl, his body almost shaking as if from laughter. "Ich bin der Spieler, du bist der Tor..." He grabbed several bottles of liquids from cabinets, pouring them into the bowl and sticking a finger in. "Yes, this will be splendid."

  • Was it that surprising that she was of that age? Raschagal was humored by the fact. "Thank you, I suppose," she whispered, still not at all used to compliments of any form. She looked to her shoulder as he grasped it for that short moment, and her facial expression slowly melted back into one of a straight and emotionless nature. She was confused by what she was feeling. It was an intense desire for something, a something she was not entirely sure of yet. Was it the possibility of a feast waiting inside? A companion? She had lived her uneventful, boring 70-or-so years in the forest without such.. Maybe that was it, then. She was longing for companionship, and here the opportunity had arisen.

It's so awkward, she thought to herself, the muscles of her bandaged hand twitched with reluctance.

She followed after him into the house, her bare footsteps quiet against the ground. She reached to pull some of the hair before her good eye back behind her ear, its golden hue shining in the light. The bangles, beads, and ribboned jewels dangled about her wrist. From afar she watched him with a cautious, yet interested gaze. She had no idea what was in store for her, but the majority of her mind was longing to find out. Her once conscience mind would have raised several warning flags, begging her to turn back.. but that had been tied down unknowingly.

She tilted her head, hearing his words lightly as he leaned into his work. Was it.. an incantation of some kind? She was unsure, not understanding the words in any way, for she was not educated in the knowledge of other languages. She balled her fists at her sides.

Yaksha turned to her quickly, giving an airy smile as he waved her forward. "Don't be shy, dear. If you'd like to get a look at the place, feel free to do so; I'm just getting lunch ready. I can give you a grand tour in a few minutes, but if you want to find somewhere to sit, I've got several armchairs. Just try to enjoy yourself." He chuckled softly, knowing she must already be drowning in her desire, but making no move to acknowledge it. He intended to let her simmer as he prepared the meal, until she was crushed under the weight of her own thoughts.

He opened the icebox, pulling out several slabs of meat, and dipping them in the bowl he had filled with various liquids. He whistled to himself as he lit a fire, swiftly grabbing a pot and placing the meat inside. His voice drifted to her, sounding jovial and almost mesmerizing. "I'm making steaks, I hope you don't mind! I don't imagine you'd be a vegetarian, but who knows these days..." He shook his heat, moving the meat over the flame and smiling as it began to sizzle.

  • Raschagal gulped as he spoke, golden eye drifting around as she took the invitation to have a look around. She would not sit.. No, things were much too clean, and her lifestyle made her quite the opposite. She didn't want to ruin anything of his, that wasn't very fancy guest etiquette; no, she'd stand, while her mind swam. Several possibilities tossed and turned in the gape of her mind, and for once she was restless. She couldn't remember the last time she had thought so much. Goosebumps raised on her dark arms, and she let her hand drift over one to try to calm them.

Raschagal did not venture far, however, before returning to him. While she pinched each individual muscle to keep herself from showing any kind of large emotion, she couldn't keep her gaze from him them. She felt like a lost puppy, longing for a place to belong.. A home, maybe, or a lad to run alongside until her dying days. This man, Baron Samedi, had somehow grabbed a hold of her and was drawing her in, despite her original reluctance.. In her sane mind she would have fled, afraid of the unknown.. her cowardice would have kept her from anything further. But now she was filled with a foreign desire.

She watched him as he grabbed some meat to place in the pot, and a hand absentmindedly moved to rub at her exposed midriff. She really was hungry, she hadn't noticed that before. She could probably afford to eat more, rather small in stature though her curves were a natural gene from her mother. She'd need to reexamine her diet, she decided, but she put that thought aside. "I guess you could call me a scavenger.. I eat what I can find. Steaks sound.. marvelous." The moment she said the word she was surprised with herself, a hand moving over her mouth. What was coming over her?

Yaksha chuckled softly, sparing her only the slightest glance before he dipped his finger into the bowl, pulling it out and extending it to her. "Taste. If you don't like it, I can make a few more without it." His eyes gleamed mischeviously, and he waited for her body to inevitably respond to his invitation. The liquid began to pool at the tip of his finger, threatening to drip onto the floor, until he flipped his finger over, crooking it just slightly. "Hurry, or it'll make a mess!" He chuckled calmly, then stepped away after a moment. Whether she had tasted or not, he had a lot more to work on.

"Please, please sit down. I'm sure your feet are tired from the walk here, and I can easily clean up once you've eaten. I said it already, Raschagal. This home is yours for the day, so don't worry about anything. Just try to relax, and enjoy yourself as much as you can." He stopped completely, then let out a quick bark. "I know; if you're that worried about your appearance, you can take a bath while I prepare the meal!"

  • Raschagal shifted, moving her weight from one leg to the other as she contemplated the tasting. She didn't want to put him through the trouble of making something she'd end up not liking, nor did she wish for him to clean up if it dripped onto the floor.. Before she knew it she had actually taken his finger into her mouth, sucking off the delicious liquid. She was lost for a moment, enjoying the taste, not having had something similar in.. well, 70 years or so! Just as quickly as she had gone to taste, she pulled away and curled into herself. What are you doing?! Don't act so ravenous! she willed herself, keeping her gaze from him for a moment.

It was absolutely divine, however, she could not deny that.

She did look up when he spoke again, an almost insecure expression having crept its way onto her face. She perked up at the mention of a bath, always the one to enjoy a good dip in the.. well, lake, normally. But she was sure he didn't mean a lake for her to bathe in. "I bathed yesterday.. I should be okay.." She mumbled, biting at her bottom lip a moment. It was an inviting idea, however.. She couldn't exactly say no, could she? They would be eating after all, and it would seem weird if she was decked out in her very best dirt. "But, then again.." She began, before pausing and taking a look at the wounded palm of her left hand. "It probably wouldn't hurt.."
