| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Clad in a pair of sandals whose straps wound up around her shins, a green, tattered shirt and a pair of brown leggings that were somewhat too big for her, the little girl crept through the Spiderhaunt with only determination embossed in her features. Her green eyes were narrowed, set into a look of concentration and the corners of her mouth were pulled down slightly with impatience. Her breathing was deep and near silent and she stayed as low to the ground as possible, not paying any mind to the dirt and grime that began to cover her. She enjoyed being close to the earth and didn't see a reason to be so concerned with it, whether it was "uncleanly" or not. Reaching her hand back to a small belt around her waist, Sarah unsheathed a small dagger and twisted it about her fingers. She'd heard these woods were a scary place, but she didn't understand why. It wasn't the fault of the trees they looked so malevolent, that some of them no longer carried leaves. People were quick to judge and even quicker to instill fear into. Afraid of trees... it was ridiculous. Although perhaps there was more to it. Sarah had heard of the large spiders that dwelled here, but even then they were just overgrown insects. The idea of people being so frightened of them made her sigh, and she raked a hand through her blonde hair to move a few stray locks out of her face. Mud was left behind due to the dirtied nature of her hands, but that wasn't something she noticed or even cared about. Sarah stopped then and sat up, thinking she heard something. She held her dagger close; unfortunately not everything and everyone in the world was very nice. Turning her head, she began to look for the source of the noise, somewhat concerned when she didn't see anything. |

Two figures, wreathed in shadows, popped and blinked from and into existence, in one spot for a second before appearing somewhere else. The marsh underfoot was bad footing, it tended to suck at your boots and take you in. And being stuck was one of the last things any adventuring soul would want in a place where there were predators few see. Despite his efforts, mud had gathered on his boots, layering upon itself to the point where his boots seemed made of the stuff, and weighed near thirty pounds apiece. His heel was uneven, and about an inch thicker than usual. The closest thing he could think of was a woman's shoe. At the thought the shadow smiled. The second figure, looking the shape of a cat, but much, much bigger, darted along seamlessly, as if moving through the shadows was what it did for a living. And it was close enough. Together, the two moved with incredible speed through the marshy forest, feeling it beginning to grow firmer underfoot. They were coming to the Spiderhaunt Woods. Eliel felt a chill run down his spine, drawing a mental shove from Gwen. The shadow figures came to a stop in an area clear of water and leaves, just bare dirt for three meters in any direction. With a sigh, The shadows rolled off the humanoid like a wave, creeping over the sun-touched dirt and retreating to the natural shadows. Eliel stood in its place, In his woods clothes. Loose black pants, a brown tunic, and a reddish leather vest made up this particular outfit, modified with his elf-made boots and Gargoyle's cloak. The drow sat on a fallen tree trunk, pulling out a gleaming knife to scrape the layers of mud off his boots. A second wave of shadows rolled over the ground, drawing his eyes for a moment to the Umbra who strode over and lay down, muscles rippling with the simplest actions. Smiling, he rubbed her ears and returned to his work. Once the dried mud lay in a pile at his feet, he stood. Looking down, he noted Gwen's head was raised, yellow eyes pointed off into the forest where they were headed. Eliel nodded, slipping his knife into the leg sheath and drawing his long blade with a quiet hiss of steel on polished leather. |

((ooc: craptastic, hoorah!)) --- When she saw nothing, Sarah resolved to believe her mind had been playing tricks on her and continued through the underbrush of the woods. She looked around a few times, her gaze traveling above, below, and to the left and right. There were a few odd looking birds roosting in the trees... or at least, they looked like birds. In all honesty she wasn't quite sure what they were, but this wasn't the time to worry about that. As she crawled through, Sarah thought she saw something that didn't belong in these woods perched upon a tree trunk that had fallen to the ground. For a few moments she stopped, green eyes focused on the thing until she realized it was another person. What would another human being be out here for? Unless they were an avid adventurer like her, which for some reason Sarah doubted. In her little group of friends back in town she had always been the outgoing, courageous one; she'd never met anyone with the heart of an explorer before. Deciding to sneak up on him, for better or for worse, Sarah silently made her way over to him, dagger ready should she need it. Uncertain as to whether or not he'd be aware of her, Sarah made the decision to make herself known - she was, after all, behind him. "What are you doing in my woods?" she asked in a somewhat intimidating tone. Maybe he'd be scared of her! That'd be awesome! |

The girl's appearance gave Eliel a good start, making him jump off the log, spinning around and pulling the hilt of his sword behind his shoulder, set for a good thrust. A couple feet away, Gwen flicked her tail, closing her eyes in an apparent state of not-caring. She saw no danger in the little girl with the pointy bit of metal. In her eyes, Eliel could handle himself quite well with his own bit of metal. She was, after all, fairly certain he could hold his own in a fight with a little girl. Eliel cocked an eyebrow at the girl, watching her as if he'd never heard what she'd asked. “huh.” He exclaimed, sheathing his sword. Looking around, he shrugged and flicked his hand towards the ground, casting an anti-magic field around them, just in case. Can't be too carefuil in the affairs of children. Dangerous things, they were. The tall drow crouched in front of her, paying little to no mind to her dagger. He sat on his heels, a twinkle in his eye as he observed this muddy little beast in front of him. Several thoughts ran through his mind, drawing a laugh from Gwen's silence as she read them. 'Eliel, be nice.' came her expected response. They both knew he had little knowledge of how the minds of little things worked. A twinkle gleamed in his crimson eyes, his smile pushing his eyelids closed a little, creasing the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes. “I don't think I've ever seen such an ugly child.” He laughed, setting his chin in the heel of his palm, resting his elbow on his knee. “I apologize for my intrusion into your forest, milady. My apologies.” He laughed. Gwen sighed and rose behind him, walking past and knocking him aside as she moved to sit in front of Sarah. “what's your name, dear?” She purred, a catlike smile on her face. The failed attempt at comforting showed a row of pointed, gleaming teeth. “You're going to scare her, cat.” ”no more than you could do.” “Fair enough.” Eliel sighed, lowering his head. |

Sarah looked at the man as though he were crazy. Drawing a sword on a harmless child... unless he was scared of her? The thought filled her with joy; it was good to know she was imposing! She'd be fighting dangerous villains and demons in no time that way! Her stare was cold when he lowered himself to her level. She waited for him to say something, to answer the question she'd posed for him, and remained completely and utterly still just like a patient warrior should. She spared a moment to glance at the cat, humming in interest before she looked to the drow. "I don't think I've ever seen such an ugly, wrinkly old man!" she countered, a playful gleam to her green eyes. She giggled, proud of her retort. "You better be sorry," she said, extending her dagger to poke his nose with it, though not hard enough to draw blood. "I may have had an animal eat you, you know." She looked to the cat when she came closer, almost overwhelmed by the urge to tackle the furry object and snuggle into it. She watched as the cat and the dark-skinned man bickered, only then to look back to the cat. "Sarah," she said simply. |

Eliel's eye shined as she retorted quickly. Gwen's eyes rolled, glancing at Eliel. 'you two were made for each other.' The drow smiled and nodded, patting the cat's head. His smile was wiped off his face as the dagger's point dug into the tip of his nose. Wincing, he reached up and took it between two fingers, pulling it free. Crimson eyes began tearing from the pain. Eliel fixed her with a halfhearted glare. “Where are your parents? Didn't they teach you not to stab at kind-ow!- strangers?” He yelped as Gwen's claw poked through his pants leg. Glaring at her, he poked his tongue out. The Umbra returned the gesture, her pink, flat tongue hanging out doggedly. |

"Hey!" Sarah cried when he took the dagger away from her, lower lip jutting out and cheeks filling with a bit of air in an exaggerated pout. "That's my weapon, give it back!" she demanded. "I'll bite you!" As if to make good on her threat, Sarah chomped her teeth together, huffing softly. "I don't have parents," Sarah said matter-of-factly. "Don't need 'em, I'm a big girl. Can take care of myself." She stood proudly, then poked her tongue out as well. She didn't know why they were doing it, but she didn't want to be the only one out of the loop. |

The drow's amusement was only heightened by her air-biting threat. His eyebrow twitched as she pouted, his will being worn away faster than he liked. Sighing, he gave in and offered her the hilt, looking it over for a moment. A very basic weapon. She wouldn't last long with it out here, especially if she didn't know how to use it. Trying to think of a way to get her out of the woods was difficult, he could just leave her in the village and have someone take care of her. A small part of him nagged at the idea, but he couldn't quite recognize the feeling. Gwen nailed it. “Why don't you come to our house, Sarah?” She said in a purring tone, her tail flicking to tickle her nose. |

Sarah beamed when he handed her the hilt of her dagger, and without a moments hesitation she placed it back in the belt at her side. She was surprised by their silence, but maybe they were just impressed. For being on her own and only being ten, she took care of herself quite well. After all, she wasn't dead yet. "Huh?" she asked quietly, looking to Gwen. Her face wrinkled when her tail hit her nose and she drew back, sneezing loudly into her elbow. "But you're both strangers... I'm not supposed to stay with strangers," she said, her blonde brows lifting. |

Eliel was dazed for a moment by the revelation that had hit him with Gwen's offer. Of course that was it. He didn't know how it had escaped him, how he hadn't realized what he really wanted. Ever since he and Nemael parted, he's wanted it so badly. He wanted a child. Eliel beamed and laughed, playing with Gwen's ear happily. She matched his expression, pleased that she'd guessed spot on. Both of them looked at the girl as she hesitated. “Well, we can't have you staying with strangers, can we?” He shook his head with a smile. “My name is Eliel Usreanac, and this is Gwen. We live in the forest, in a big, cozy tower. You don't have to worry, we protect people from the bad guys around the forest. It's our job to make sure people are safe and well.” He chuckled. “And we'd be honored to have you join us.” |

Eliel and Gwen. Well, now that they knew each other's names, she supposed they couldn't very well be considered strangers. She nodded slowly, listening to the details. A tower seemed nice! As much as she liked being around the trees and the rocks and the ground, Sarah longed to sleep in an actual bed for once. With pillows, and blankets... ooh, it already felt nice. "All right!" she said excitedly, with all the naivete of a child. "Where is it? Let's go! I wanna go see it!" she exclaimed. "How long do I get to stay with you?" She'd savor every moment of it. |

Eliel's heart soared as she agreed enthusiastically. “Let's go, then!” He laughed, reaching out to ruffle her hair. He felt a hand on his shoulder and noted Gwen was gone. Looking to the hand, he saw the pale, perfect skin and trailed the arm that it was attached to. Gwen stood by his side as her half-elf self, features having all the beauty of an elf, but the harsh features softened. She had shifted into pants similar to his, more like slacks in appearance, her vest and tunic colored in deep browns and reds. She remained barefooted, not liking having something between her feet and the ground. Eliel handed her his spare brown cloak. “Glad you could join us, Gwen.” He laughed as she walked over to Sarah, resting her hands on her shoulders. "You can stay with us as long as you want." He beamed, gesturing to the dry path ahead. "Ladies first." |

Yay! They were going! Sarah bounced up and down in place, muck splashing somewhat around her feet, but she didn't care very much. She watched as the kitty turned into a lady, filled with wonder at the display. "How'd you do that?" she asked, incredulous. She looked up at Gwen, grinning at her and getting ready to run. Looking at the path ahead, she nodded, and, though unsure quite where they were going, Sarah took off at a sprint. "I'll race you!" she called over her shoulder. |

Gwen laughed softly, voice tinkling. “Magic, hon.” She teased, patting her head. As the trio walked, Eliel smiled, feeling content for the first time in ages. It had been more than just a few months, he hadn't felt so happy since he and Nemael had escaped Menzoberranzan. As Sarah ran off, Eliel laughed and began a jog, running swiftly and quietly, but letting the girl have the lead. Gwen kept pace with her though, running at her side while making it seem strained. She would be great to watch Sarah. Though he doubted that he and the girl would be apart often. “I'm going to catch you!” |

Sarah squealed in delight, watching Eliel behind her and then looking to Gwen at her side. Oh no, she couldn't let either of them win! Laughing despite herself, Sarah continued to run, shaking her head and ignoring the blonde locks of hair that flew into her face. "No you're not, old man!" she cried, trying to run faster to put Gwen in the dust. "I'm the fastest kid there ever was! See?!" |
