Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Aiden grinned devilishly at the challenge. It had been a very long while since anyone had bothered to play a killing game--far too long, in Aiden's opinion. "You're on," he shouted excited as he charged forward, blade and hand extended.

"Die elf!" one bandit shouted as he too charged forward. He waved two blades before him, making the air a dangerous steel trap. Aiden danced around the bandit for a handful of seconds as he started to be surrounded by two more bandits from the left and the right.

Wonderful, Aiden thought as he suddenly raised his hand and let loose a spell. "Incendie!" he shouted, slinging a powerful fireball at the bandit before him. His opponent screamed in rage and pain as the flames engulfed him before twisting deftly to the side. "One!" he shouted as he swung his blade to parry an oncoming attack. By his count, Yaksha had already downed two. He had some catching up to do. . .

The lich chuckled, his blue steel daggers moving among the bandits like a deadly flash, freezing two bandits in place before striking a third in the chest. "That makes three kills for me, Aiden! You best start taking this seriously if you want a place to stay, my friend! Otherwise, it's sleeping under the stars like this all night." A bandit strike Yaksha from behind, hitting the lich with a tree branch, and almost knocking him to the ground, before his caught himself with his hands. "Bravo, my friend. You managed to wound me, however insignificant!" The lich's legs kicked out, striking the bandit in the chest and knocking the wind from his lungs as he fell onto his buttox. Yaksha rose to his feet once more, brushing himself off and chuckling.

To be honest, Aiden would rather have slept under the sky than in a house. He figured the latter would draw more attention than he wanted anyway. But he kept his reply to himself as he faced off against two more bandits. "Just walk away," he said, "It might actually do you more good."

The two bandits sneered and attacked as one, with one wielding a longsword and the other attacking with what looked to be a javelin. Aiden jumped to the side, avoiding the sword attack while surging forward and kicking the second bandit hard in the chest. Using his forward momentum, Aiden leapt forward over his now weezing opponent and turned on his heel to block a surprisingly swift sword attack from the first bandit.

"Nice," Aiden said before whirling in place and batting the bandit's sword to the side. Before he could react, Aiden punched the bandit hard in the jaw, twisting his head to the side viciously in the process. For a moment, Aiden thought about letting the bandits live, but he quickly remembered his bet and shuddered to think why Yaksha would want to meet in these woods again. "Sorry," he muttered as he quickly stabbed through his downed opponents. . .

Yaksha had already been surrounded by several bandits, each weilding a sword. As they began to surge forward like one being, Yaksha laughed nastily, his leg snapping out and striking one of them in the chin. He fell over as his hands flew to his face, and five swords flashed through the air towards the lich. Yaksha's eyes glinted with a terrifying apathy, as he danced through the blades carefully, striking each bandit lightly as he did. "Come now, children! There's no fun in a game like this if you don't give me a challenge!" He swug his arm out, murmuring several arcane words, and a tongue of flame shot forth, singing two of the bandits.

Before the bandits could react, Yaksha's cloak whipped around him, as he grabbed one of the bandits by the wrist, pulling his blade with monstrous strength towards his own neck. "If you can't keep me interested, I'll simply have to kill you all. I do have a deal with my friend over there, and I'm only willing to lose if you boys can keep me occupied." He stiffened as he felt a blade pressed against his back; the bandit he had first struck was back on his feet now, grinning widely as blood oozed from his nose. "Looks like checkmate to me. Now leave your goods and go away, or I'll skewer you."

Yaksha paused, turning slowly enough to unsettle the bandit behind him. "Let me give you a little tip, child. A threat is only any good if you intend to go through with it. So many people are loathe to do what needs to be done, to the point that they actually use intimidation tactics to avoid it." He grabbed the blade, pulling it forward and sinking it into his gut quickly. He hissed at the bandit, blood covering his face in a fine mist. "Never tell someone you'll do something you know you won't. As a matter of fact..." His dagger swung through the air, slicing through his throat effortlessly and leaving him gagging, and scrabbling at his throat. "Never tell someone you'll do something in general." He turned back to the bandits, the hunk of steel still sprouting from his chest. "I hate someone who doesn't have the guts to go through with something." He cocked his head slowly, giving a grin that showed off twin fangs. "Do you guys have the guts?"

The bandits around Aiden looked at his companion in shock. Aiden himself was slightly troubled at the display, but managed to clear his mind as he remembered their little wager. "My gain," he muttered as he surged forward, using the bandits' shock to his advantage. his sword flashed, taking out two bandits in as many strokes as his leg kicked up, taking another across the face with a vicious hit.

"Enough playing around," Aiden said as he charged again towards two more bandits.

"Come on!" one shouted as he too charged forward to attack Aiden head-on...just as the elf planned.

Aiden stopped short, bringing his bloody palm just inches of the bandit's, who had stopped short as well in confusion. "Die," the elf muttered as he shot off a fireball at point blank range. There was no more sound from the bandit as his corpse fell to the ground, his upper body a charred mess. For now, the elf held back his pity, more fearful of his own fate should he lose rather than the fate of the bandit. . .

Yaksha pulled the sword from his own chest, whirling about with it and lopping the head off of a bandit easily. He looked down at the blade, giving a small grunt as he said, "Good sword." The bandits around him had shrunk back, all fearing that they would be the next to die, while Yaksha ran a finger over the sword. "Let it never be said I wasn't a fair man...Come and get me, boys." He threw the blade aside, placing both hands behind his back. "I won't even use my hands against you. That should keep things relatively even." His grin seemed almost taunting, as he crouched low to the ground, waiting for their weapons.

The bandits began to perk up; even a fiend like this man couldn't win against them all without a weapon. A few of them might die in the fight, but they were ready to die if it meant taking down this guy. As they lept forward, Yaksha waved his head towards them, and his seven undead bandits surged forward, overwhelming the three bandits left, and giving almost animalistic growls as they tore their own friends apart, their glassy eyes showing no remorse or pity for their actions. Yaksha laughed calmly, and then brushed off his cloak carefully. "They weren't MY hands, as such..."

"Not bad," Aiden said tauntingly as he fought the final bandit before him. He was taking great pains to only defend, allowing his opponent to expend the majority of his energy using wild strikes and sword lunges. Aiden let the fight drag on for quite a while before he too began to grow tired of the charade.

"That's enough I think," Aiden said, raising his sword and catching his opponent's blade in a high guard. Aiden stepped forward, closing the distance between them as he held their swords high. "I must be off," the elf said, putting his bare palm against the man's leather armor. "And unfortunately, so must you. But it's been fun." For a split second, Aiden thought that the bandit widened his eyes just a bit and the elf even imagined that this man could very well start praying for his life.

Too late for that, Aiden thought, firing another fireball spell into the man's gut. While the flames did very little to the man at first, they were hot enough to distract the bandit and force him out of his guard. With little resistance, Aiden's blade slide forward and lodged in the space between the bandit's neck and shoulder guards.

Aiden grimaced at the slight char wounds on his hand, but said nothing as the bandit's corpse slowly slid to the ground. Looking around him, Aiden noticed that Yaksha had also finished off those that stood against him. This left the campsite eerily quiet except for the sound of his companion's undead servants. "I'd say that was pretty successful," Aiden muttered aloud, "But what was the final count?"

Yaksha stood over the corpse of one of the bandits, inhaling deeply before turning to Aiden and giving a wicked grin. "That was fun. Nothing like teaching a few wicked men a lesson, no?" The twinkling in his eyes was simultaniously calming and terrifying, making it clear that Aiden was alive only by the grace of his mercy, and would stay such a way for some time. "By my count, you slew about 6 of the bandits. By my count, I slew...6, not including those who my undead tore apart." The grin on his face was almost ennervating, seeming to drain all will or strength from the elf. "Which I beleive in this case, means we will both be given what was promised." A hand slid into his cloak quickly, pulling out a bag that gave a muffled jingle as he threw it at Aiden's feet. "I'll be waiting where we first met, tomorrow afternoon. Don't make me come find you."

Aiden honestly didn't know what to make of this character, even though they had been companions for the better part of a night. This latest move barely phased Aiden...except for the bag of gold that was now sitting on the ground. Shrugging, the elf strode forward confidently and plucked the bag from the ground. Without counting the contents, he secured the pouch to his waist before looking Yaksha in the eyes.

"Very well," Aiden replied, "I guess I can't refuse you if you ask nicely." With that, the elf resheathed his blade and walked back into the forest, leaving Yaksha to his own devices for the time being. To be honest, the elf was afraid that his companion would make him witness another necromancer performance...which wasn't something that the elf was very keen on doing. "Well then, until tomorrow I suppose," Aiden called out over his shoulder as he walked back to the campsite...alone. . .

OOC: I could only assume that a time jump would be semi appropriate here lol. If I'm wrong, let me know and I'll gladly edit the post.

BinC: Aiden bode his time, choosing to simply stay at the campsite for a day rather than walking off and forgetting to return by Yaksha's deadline. Instead of worrying for the entire day, the elf made an effort to clean everything he owned. He washed his bloodied cloak and tunic at the lake's edge, cleaned and oiled his blade, and removed the soil and mud from his boots. He bathed quickly as the afternoon approached before sitting down comfortably in front of what remained of last night's campfire.

As the deadline approached, Aiden began wondering just what Yaksha had planned. The gold was startling enough...what else was going on that Yaksha simply couldn't have done or said before they parted?

A small brown snake slithered into the campsite, hissing softly as its tongue flickered in and out. After a second, white flames sprouted around its form, consuming it completely. When they faded, Yaksha stood where it had been, crouched and smiling jovially. "Glad you didn't let me down, Aiden. I was beginning to think you might've tried to flee. That would've made me very upsssset." His hair was a dark brown today, and slicked back neatly, his eyes covered by a pair of dark tinted glasses. "Now, I think that last night, you only got to see the worst side of me. And so, Aiden..." He rose to his full height, staggeringly tall as he bent forward in a deep bow. "I invite you to spend the night at my home. The finest of foods, bathing in wonderful luxury...it'll be your personal paradise for the day."

Aiden wasn't even surprised when the snake that slithered into the campsite turned out to be Yaksha. Perhaps I really am numb to it all now, the elf thought, amused. "I would never think of running away," he said, however, he didn't elaborate, knowing full well that if he had the opportunity, he would've fled as soon as possible.

Aiden stayed mostly silent as Yaksha continued, only serving to increase the suspense that the elf felt over what would happen.

I invite you to spend the night at my home. The finest of foods, bathing in wonderful luxury...it'll be your personal paradise for the day."

The offer made Aiden look up in surprise. He had, of course, been expecting something a bit more sinister or even dangerous. "Really?" he asked, already thinking about what foods would be served at this mini-feast. "That's quite generous of you, my friend. But if I may ask, what's the occasion? You've already given me this gold, as promised. I would feel guilty if I asked much more of you. . ."

Yaksha bowed deeply to Aiden, his voice a soft chuckle. "I beleive I said it already, my child. Last night was all violence and dark magic. I fear that seeing me only at my worst would leave you fearful, and reluctant to make yourself known on my doorstep. You are a guest of mine, and freely welcome to visit me whenever you'd like. I wish you to see the best of me, after quaking at the worst last night." He rose slowly, waving at a nearby patch of underbrush. "My home is this way, and it would be an honor to Have you stay the night at my home, and allow me to show you how wonderful a host I can be." Before Aiden could respond, Yaksha began to drift off through the underbrush, waving him to follow. "Hurry, my child..."

I wouldn't exactly say I 'quaked,' Aiden thought as he mulled over the request. While he didn't exactly have much else to do, he still wasn't completely comfortable with this arrangement. However, as a ranger, turning down free food was hardly ever in his best interest. Besides, Yaksha made it clear that Aiden would be coming along as an invited guest, not a victim.

Despite earlier apprehensions, Aiden was beginning to like this guy after all. "Why not?" he replied with a shrug. He took a quick look around the campsite to make sure that nothing had been left or overlooked before following his host through the underbrush. . .

OOC: Argh, short post lol
