| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Yaksha stood just inches off the ground, watching the bandit get back up. The bandit's eyes were lined with venemous spite, and he gripped his dagger hard enough to turn his knuckles white. "Magic, of course. Well, let's see how well you cast when you can barely stop to breathe?" He lunged, his blade flashing through the air. Before it landed, he drew another one from his cloak, swinging wildly at the lich with twin daggers. Yaksha's eyes glittered darkly as he lept back, and he pulled out a deck carefully. "Shall we see what the fates have in store for you, friend?" "I'm not your friend, moron! I'm gonna kill you!" Yaksha shook his head, drawing a card from the middle of the deck, before throwing it to him. "Temperance. A struggle between forces. A balance, if you will. And I think it's obvious who the superior is here." He began to descend slowly, his eyes almost burning a hole through the bandit. "I'll give you a single chance. You can join me, and see what true power is, or you can die here with your friend. I'm sure my wolf could use another snack." As if to prove this, his undead wolf slunk forward, blood covering its muzzle. His friend lay on the ground, eyes glassy and blood pooling around him. "You're mad. I'd kill you before I join you!" As if to prove this, he lunged forward, his blade sliding forward and going through his ribs. Yaksha looked down, before scowling, and bringing his hand down hard enough to snap the bandit's wrist. His eyes had turned serious and dark, as he stepped forward. "Know that I only let you sink your blade between my ribs to show you how futile it was to try. I'll not be killed by something as mundane as a dagger. Now, you've made your choice, and you can accept your consequences." He pulled the dagger from his own chest, twirling it in his hand. The bandit began to back up, looking horrified; he was too busy with the lich to even notice the wolf pounce from behind. He was born to the ground, and the last thing he felt was the searing pain of fangs on the back of his head. |

OOC: Sorry for the wait. Had to fix my computer lol. BinC: Aiden moved through the forest as the gathering darkness made it more and more difficult to see. Soon, he was navigating from memory and instinct alone. Luckily, it wasn't too long before he made it to the small clearing on the shores of the lake where he had left Yaksha. As he approached the small campsite, he noted the gruesome state of two bandits. "I guess I didn't have to warn you after all," Aiden muttered as he looked at the campsite. Luckily, there were very few things which were out of place at the campsite. From the look of things, Yaksha had very little trouble of disposing of these minor threats. Good to know for future reference, Aiden thought as he approached the campfire. He quickly checked himself over, looking for any wounds he hadn't noticed earlier. He breathed in relief when he found none. Aiden then looked towards Yaksha and asked, "So, what should we do now? I doubt that'll be the only attack we'll face tonight. There must be more of them somewhere around here. . ." |

Yaksha sat on thin air, an eyebrow raised just slightly as he smirked. "Aiden, I can fend for myself. I told you already, I'm a necromancer. Any necromancer worth his salt can make corpses as easily as they can control them." He stared at the fire for several moments, before looking back up to Aiden. "Bring me the corpses. It's only right for these guys to be reunited with their friends..." A low, sadistic chuckle rose from him, and he pushed to his feet quickly. He hummed softly as he strode towards the two corpses, laying a hand on each one and murmuring softly as dark tendrils began to seep from his palms, wrapping around the corpses. He turned away, as the black threads seemed almost to encase the two dead. Their bodies twitched slightly inside, finally pushing forth from the coccoons of magic silently. They stared at Yaksha with sightless eyes, and quickly turned away with a wave from the lich's hand. He never even turned to Aiden, only speaking with a small chuckle. "Get the others. No one will be sneaking up on us again." |

Aiden, I can fend for myself. I told you already, I'm a necromancer. Any necromancer worth his salt can make corpses as easily as they can control them. Aiden nodded a silent affirmative, now mentally berating himself for ever worrying about his campmate. From the look of things around the site, it appeared that Yaksha's words were as true as ever. Two corpses lay on the ground, but the state in which they lay was gruesome. From the look of things, Yaksha's wolf had done most of the dirty work. Bite marks and blood covered the two bodies, but little else was disturbed. Aiden silently reminded himself to stay on Yaksha's good side for the remainder of this companionship. When Yaksha began moving towards the corpses, he simply assumed that he would be moving the bodies to an area where they could be properly disposed of. But then Aiden remembered the necromancer comment from earlier...and realized that there was another plan in store for these bandits. He said nothing as he watched Yaksha reanimate the formerly dead bodies. He was both repulsed...and slightly curious. He had never seen a necromancer at work before, and now he realized just why they were so feared-and sometimes hated-in other parts of the world. Get the others. No one will be sneaking up on us again. Aiden shuddered slightly at the order, a small part of him hoping that there weren't any more bandits lurking nearby. . . |

Yaksha chuckled as the 3 freshly slain bandits were lain before him. He began to chant once more, this time the black cocoons oddly vacant; instead, a shimmering haze covered the bodies, as if they were shrouded by some diabolic heat-demon. Within moments, they had risen, shuffling towards their 2 fallen allies, and grunting as they began to spread around the clearing, weapons at the ready. Yaksha sat back by the flames, looking only the slightest bit more strained than before the bandits had struck. He stared at Aiden silently, almost seeming to read his mind, before he spoke slowly, his words almost ludicrous; "So, I imagine the bandits took all of the good berries, then?" |

Again, Aiden found himself repulsed at the sight of the necromancer's gruesome art. Part of Aiden wanted to run as far as possible then and there...and yet some part of him actually wanted to see what would happen next. I must be out of my mind, Aiden thought as he watched the sight of the three bandits being reanimated. But I suppose I should just be glad this guy is on my side. When the task was complete and Yaksha spoke up about berries, Aiden couldn't help but laugh. "To tell the truth, I naturally forgot all about those blasted berries," he said, chuckling. "Needless to say, i had more important things to worry about. Besides, after all that work, I don't think I'm even hungry anymore." Truthfully, Aiden wasn't hungry, but it had nothing to do with the bandits...at least, it didn't while they were alive. "So now what?" Aiden spoke up after a few moments. "I can't imagine that'll be the only attack we'll have to worry about tonight. I'd imagine there would be more somewhere around here." Sitting down heavily, Aiden continued, "If I remember correctly, I heard someone talking about a bandit camp somewhere nearby. I guess there might be some truth to that story, but I wonder where it is. . ." |

The lich stared for a second, before laughing deeply, the sort of laugh that can only come when one is caught completely off-guard. "My friend, that's CERTAINLY the last attack we have to worry about tonight. My guards aren't bright, but they know no pain, no fear. They can lose an arm and keep going without a second thought. They'd need at least twice the men, each with nerves of steel, to get in here. And even then..." He smiled calmly, twin fangs glinting in the firelight. "They'd get to meet us. No, I'm quite sure we won't have trouble with bandits anytime soon." He pushed off the ground, pausing as if deep in thought, before turning his head to Aiden, much further than any living being should be able to. "In fact, I think it's time we returned their friends to them, and had a little chat. It's simply wrong, attacking innocent people like that, to steal their goods. Someone has to show them they're not above punishment." His eyes flashed a lemon-yellow, as he waved his undead forward. The bandits lurched forward with glassy eyes, like a doll's, and stared at the lich. "And what punishment is worse than us, Aiden?" |

"And what punishment is worse than us, Aiden?" I can think of a few, Aiden thought, standing once again and straightening the belt on his waist. "I guess for tonight, there won't be a punishment worse than us," he said after a few moments of silence. "Hopefully there won't be many more like the ones I fought. They actually seemed decent...kind of." Taking a quick glance at the walking, yet dead, bandits in front of him, Aiden suppressed another shudder. "Then again," he said, "if it's too much trouble, I guess our bandit friends here can handle them." Walking forward, Aiden looked around before coming up with an idea. "Since these guys are in your control, do you have access to their memories? It would be really helpful if we could find the bandits' hideout without searching too much. That way we could have the element of surprise too!" The more Aiden thought about it, the more excited he became. This area of Norwood had been plagued by bandits for years and the wood elves were far too stretched to deal with the problem adequately. Perhaps together, Aiden and Yaksha could do something that needed to be done for years-make the forest safe for others. . . |

Yaksha waved a hand dismissively, muttering almost absentmindedly as he began to hop from foot to foot. "Theirs minds pass on even with my magic animating them. They might have some residual muscle memory if they walked the path often enough, but I wouldn't count on it. I've better methods to find these bandits." He waved a hand through the air slowly, as if it were the consistancy of syrup. He then crouched down, leaping high into the air and landing on a platform of air. "So few people think to watch out for attack from above. Let's scout ahead." He smiled down at Aiden, holding out a hand to help him up. "If I'm carrying you, we'll only have about 10 minutes. Still, that should be time enough." |

This was just far too much. Not only would this night include Aiden's first necromancer demonstration--it would include another opportunity to fly through the air. Never again, Aiden thought, shaking his head and refusing the offer politely. "I'll follow you on the ground, thank you very much," Aiden replied, "The last time I flew, I couldn't stand eating for a day. I enjoy having to obey gravity...I'll keep you in sight when you patrol." Aiden made sure that his blade was secure in his sheath, then turned in the direction he'd faced the earlier set of bandits. He could only assume that their camp had to be in the same general area as well. He doubted they'd travel so far just to attack a pair of lone travelers. "Maybe I can pick those berries up too," Aiden muttered, amused. This night might not end so badly after all. . ." |

Yaksha strolled high above the treetops, looking for fires or any sign of life. His own undead stalked through the forest from below, doing their best to trace back to their origins. As his undead began to attempt it themselves, Yaksha shifted into another plane of sight, one of blacks and whites. His own minions registered as a thick black reminscent of shifting shadows, while Aiden and the very trees were a bright white like the glare of sun off of steel. He began to focus on the ground, passing the treetops with herioc effort, and looking for any rogue, humanoid-shaped patches of white. Nearly 5 minutes later, he spotted his own undead, closing in on a circle of white blobs. He instantly moved back into his normal plane of sight, descending silently and pulling his cloak around his head as he walked inches off of the ground to avoid snapping a branch or giving himself away with footsteps. He had lost sight of Aiden, but he trusted that his new acquaintance would be wise enough to return to the campsite if he found nothing himself. He waved his undead forward, and as they shambled through the brush, the living bandits rose, crying welcomes as they stepped forward. "Hey, they're back! Got anything good for us, boys?" "Oh, I'm quite sure they do..." Yaksha spoke louder than was necessary, hoping Aiden might catch his own voice. |

Aiden moved quickly, but quietly through the brush as he kept his eyes peeled for any sign of other bandits. He decided to take a rather circuitous route in his search, hoping for any sign of other bandits. However, the minutes dragged on and he found nothing. Tracking had never been his strong suit and now he cursed himself for his deficiency. "The elders would have my head if they knew I couldn't track down a band of slobbering bandits. I'll have to ask Eonian for some help the next time I see him." Then suddenly, he heard a muffled sound come from nearby. He instantly stopped, putting his hand to his sword. He crept forward, keeping his body low and close to the ground as he came to an area with a small grouping of bushes. In the low amount of light, Aiden could just make out what seemed to be a bandit. However, he knew from the slight, shuffling movements that it had to be one of the ones controlled by Yaksha. Perhaps he's spotted something, Aiden thought as he continued forward, for the most part keeping out of sight and watching his step for anything that would give him away. "Hey, they're back! Got anything good for us, boys?" Aiden could just make out Yaksha's voice nearby. "Oh, I'm quite sure they do..." The elf couldn't help but smirk at his companion's blutness. He had spoken loud enough that he'd attracted the attention of the live bandits nearby. "Who's there?" they shouted, drawing their blades. Apparently they didn't notice that their long lost 'companions' didn't do the same. This should be fun, Aiden thought as he stood straight and drew his sword. "Two fights in one night," he muttered, stepping forward. "This might be fun after all. . ." |

The lich stepped into the firelight, a white corona of flames surrounding his own form and making it impossible to see inside of it. "My name is Yaksha. I am the last breath of man and monster alike. I am the end of all you have known, and the beginning of your destruction. I invite you to attack me if you like; it makes no difference to me if you rush to your deaths, or if I must hunt you down." He snapped his fingers, and his seven undead bandits all surged forward, blades held in unsteady hands as they stood by his side. "Even in death, everyone serves my purposes. Your allies learned that the hard way." A bandit stepped forward, holding his weapon so hard his knuckles had begun to whiten. "You think we're afraid of you? Those guys were just a scout group, they are nothing against us." He lunged forward now, his blade whirling out with a whistling noise as it sliced the air in front of it. Yaksha simply raised a hand, and as the blade swung through his white flames, brought his thumb and four fingers together, holding the blade gently. "And you are nothing against me, child." His hand shot out, grabbing the bandit and tightening around his throat. "It really IS handy to know when you're outmatched. It saves us all so much time." |

"Even in death, everyone serves my purposes. Your allies learned that the hard way." This guy sure knows how to make an entrance, Aiden thought with a smirk. He too stepped forward into the firelight, but he did so without any flashy introduction. He would leave such things to his more capable companion. However, as soon as more bandits stepped forward into the firelight, Aiden immediately began wondering just how many bandits there were in this forest. "My name's Aiden," he said, stepping forward as a bandit came charging towards him, sword upraised. When the bandit slashed down, Aiden deftly avoided the strike and plunged his blade into his opponent's chest. "Nice to meet you too I guess," he said slyly as he immediately twisted to meet his next foe. Wielding his blade with one hand, Aiden raised his other and immediately began gathering magical energy. "Yaksha, we should figure out how many more there are," Aiden shouted above the quickly rising din. "I don't want to end up chasing people around this place. . ." |

Yaksha's lips peeled back into a wide grin, and he pulled twin daggers of blue steel as he said, "I counted 15. My eyes don't miss anything, Aiden. You've killed one, and I another; that leaves unlucky thirteen for our friends. Why don't we have a little fun with it, Aiden?" He turned to the elf, his eyes inscrutable as his dagegrs glinted in the firelight. "If I kill more bandits, then you will meet me in these woods tomorrow, just before the sun comes down. If you kill more bandits, I will give you enough gold to buy yourself a house." His blade swung outward, lodging itself in the throat of a nearby bandit, and he laughed as he pulled it out with a squealch. "Better get to it, Aiden." |
