Each of Ethari's steps crunched lightly underneath his shoes as he carefully stepped into the Calmonah Forest. He had heard rumors that the area had been tainted by evil magic, but as soon as he entered the area he felt the surge of evil magic swell over him with intensity he had never experienced before. Being a magically inclined being himself, he appreciated all types of magic, but from the rumors he heard, the evil magician who corrupted this forest wielded a magic that Ethari could never respect. He had encountered a lovely fae earlier, and spoke to her, but as soon as he spoke of the Calmonah Forest, her beautiful expression of wonder transformed into terror. A wondrous woman stepped forward, dressed in leaves. She was perfection, a creature of the forest, known for being friendly and kind. Ethari had befriended a dryad before, they were wonderful creatures, and despite their overwhelming beauty, they were the most gracious and friendly creature. "Were are you headed traveler?" She questioned with a smile. Ethari returned her smile, although not nearly as beautiful. "I'm on a quest actually, to find something for High Druid Icheb." Ethari did not want to reveal his entire quest to the stranger, but maybe if she knew the high druid, being a creature of the woods, she could help him. "Icheb!" she squealed, kicking her legs up in the air. "You're looking for the flowers that have been blessed with the powerful elemental magic, correct?" Ethari was grateful ", yes! That is exactly what I need to find. I have heard that it's inside the Calmonah forest. Is that correct?" Her face contorted into a expression of fear. "Oh, did I say something wrong?" Ethari questioned, unaware if he had insulted a dryad custom. "Oh, no," she said, the color returning to her face slowly. "It's just that that part of the forest..." She took a deep breath. "Well, it's evil." "Why?" Ethari questioned, becoming interested. "It was a normal forest once, very similar to the rest of Norwood. But then he came. No one knows exactly what this dark wizard is, but he corrupted the forest. He lives in the dark tower, and now, any forest creatures on that side of the woods turns evil. They attack, with an intent to kill." She held her hand to her mouth. Ethari had difficulty imagining a dryad attacking an innocent traveler, but he heard that the petite women that were dryads were actually deadly fighters. He did not want to fight them. "I'm sorry," Ethari said quietly, not sure what to add. "Don't be," the dryad said, her cheeriness returning. "I doubt your flower is inside the tower itself, or even too deep in the forest. You'll probably just have to retrieve it from a glade inside." Ethari sighed with relief. "Thank you," he said, bowing humbly. She returned the bow, and Ethari walked away, headed for the Calmonah Forest. Ethari arrived at the first tree that was technically in Calmonah forest. For a long while, the trees had appeared darker, and more sinister, but this one looked evil. Its tall canopy blocked a large amount of the sunlight, and its wood was warped and twisted. The branches sprung from random locations, and twisted every which direction, like it was aiming to strike a lone traveler. Ethari carefully stepped past it. Before he could get another step in, a bright light flashed in his face. His head felt like it was about to explode! And then nothing. He awoke seconds later, tied to the same evil looking tree that he had been observing moments earlier. A female dryad was tying loose ends of rope, which restricted his movements. Unlike the other dryad, she looked sinister and evil, much like a witch, but she retained her dryad like beauty. She had long talons, and vicious piercing eyes. "Oh," she said, turning to him with wicked sharp teeth. "Your awake! We're going to have fun. I promise." She leaned forward, dragging a single talon across Ethari's cheek, as his eyes followed with fear, as she cut, creating a fine red line of blood. A single droplet remained on her finger. She flicked it in the air, letting it land in her mouth, after which laughing a manically laugh, chilling Ethari's very soul. |

The sun seemed to glow over the tops of the evergreens, reflecting off the water droplets that remained in the crevasse of the leaves and flowers. The birds through out the environment sang with life in the green tree tops. The plants began to grow, producing vibrant flowers and sweet aromas. Simon, Saeborns faithful steed, ran the both of them between the trees, occasionally jumping to avoid trampling over bushes. As quickly as they came, all the trees vanished behind them. Ahead was a field full of tall green grasses. Frolicking through the grass, arriving at the top of the hill, ahead the entire environment had changed. Instead of vibrant greens and blue skies, they were exactly opposite. Grey clouds filled the heavy air and dead leaves and grasses littered the ground. Just ahead were large trees like before but by just looking at them the half elf could feel the darkness. Arriving at the first wicked looking tree, Simon stopped suddenly. Refusing to go any deeper, Saeborn got off of his back and petted his grown elk on the face. Understandingly, the half elf gestured for the elf to go. Walking forward he saw a large bright light ahead from in between a few bushes. Pulling his sword card from his pocket, he threw it into the evil contaminated air. Catching the beautiful weapon in his hands as it fell from the sky, the half elf knelt down and slowly crept forward. Spreading apart the branches he peeked through to see a familiar face on the ground. Running forward out of the bush, Saeborn rushed to help his dear friend who had been sent to the ground. Grabbing his head and looking into his lifeless eyes, some tears started to fall from his now pale white cheeks. After staying at his side for a few moments, there was a rustle in the bushes just a few feet away. Standing up to see what happened, an arrow shot through the air, shattering when it came upon contact with his plate. Looking over into the direction in which the arrow had originated from, a small dryad woman stood there with a small bow in hand. Her skin tone was that of a goddess but yet her facial expressions were twisted and evil. From all of the stories and information the half elf had heard about dryads, they were good creatures. Looking into her eyes with a stare of hatred, her eyes started to glow, her mouth moving as she said a short incantation. Her eyes still were glowing a hue of neon purple, but she stood still with no movement at all. A minuet passed and nothing stirred in movement. A loud scream came from the trees to the left, followed by a roar. Backing up in order to keep an eye on both the place where the noise had come from but also on the still dryad. The bushes started to rustle and a large bob cat shot out from them. The oversized cat had seemed like it knew where it was going and who it was going for. Latching its deadly sharp claws on the sides of the metal plate, it scratched as hard as it could tearing at the flesh of his face and neck. The blood had gotten into his eyes impairing his vision. As quickly as it happened, another pain came upon his body. Not on his face but on his lower back which was unprotected buy the plate. The breath was knocked out of him, falling to the floor completely unconscious. Waking up soon after, the pain rushed over his body once more. The hideous woman sat at the fire pit with a large caldron in front of her. Attempting to move, the half elf realized he was wrapped around the trunk of a large tree. Looking around for Ethari with no luck, he yelled at the woman ”What have you done with him you filthy wench!”. Turning around to face him, she smiled and laughed. Her yellow teeth showing, she stood up and moved the rope of another tree across the camp. As the rope moved, the unconscious body stood. Yelling his name loudly in hopes of waking him, it failed. Frustrated, the half elf grabbed the bark of the tree. Shouting the incantation, his skin started to turn brown and crusted turning into bark. The half elf rubbed the rough bark up against the thin rope in hopes of setting himself free and then retrieving the weapons which had been stripped from him. |

Hecate wandered through the tall and vibrant trees of the Norwood Forest. The sun shone through the canopy, sending inviting bars of life and light. Each time she passed through one of these rays of sunlight, her body warmed, her heart lifted, and a smile spread eagerly across her face. However, as she continued further and further into the forest, the frequent lapse of sunshine became more and scarcer, until finally, the trees’ canopies greedily covered every last drop of the life giving light. Hecate drew her cloak closer to herself as the lively energy of the Forest quickly began to transform to the wicked energy of the Woods. The once wisdom filled limbs of reverent trees became into twist and gnarled branches, deformed by the malignant energy of powers darker than that of the night. Hecate, being sensitive to the energies of all sorts of entities (which in turn made her an excellent diviner), felt the sudden urge to make a prediction about her travels. She had been sent on behalf of the High Druid Icheb. The Druid was in need of a flower that grew only during this joyous time of the year. The particular floral life was imbued with strong elemental magic. It was no surprise that a benevolent Druid was in need of one of nature’s most powerful flowers. Hecate had no problem fetching the plant for the High Druid. The witch cleared off a small area of dirt and drew out her deck of Fortune Cards. After some meditation, she began to lay the cards out in front of her. Her eyes were closed, her intent solely on her current divination. After laying out three cards, her divining instincts demanded her to stop. As soon as she opened her eyes, her heart pounded against her chest in fear. The first card was a skull, with purple and black rays of energy emanating from the various pores of the bone. Obviously, that card meant danger, death, and confrontation. The next card was that of a heart on a river. Hecate, being very familiar with her deck of Fortune Cards, knew that this card meant friends, family, and lovers. Next to that card was a gnarled woman, her arms and legs bent at strange angles. Worst of all, her neck was limp, with her stoic face hanging at her side. In one of her deformed hand was a dagger, which was covered with fresh blood. This card represented danger, with the woman being the essence of malignance and malevolent energy. Just the sight of the card filled Hecate with fear. With the heart in the middle and two dangerous portents on either side was an incredible sign of danger. She gulped, quickly gathered her deck, and proceeded onward. To her dismay, the Fortune Cards came true soon. She managed to see over some dead scrubs and branches a dryad, stirring a cauldron. Hecate could easily tell that the dryad was no peace loving tree spirit. She knew that the malign energy here not only deformed the tree, but those who lived in them as well. The creature was no dryad, but rather a malicious spirit. Saeborn and Ethari were both tied to trees, attempting to escape. Despite her cards readings however, Saeborn was making progress in escape. She drew her dagger, readying to attack as soon as Saeborn made a move, in hopes that his diversion could give her the time to make a serious if not fatal blow. |
