Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Hotaru wandered into the Norwood forest like a week ago. Only now did he come to this part of the forest. It seemed dark, gloomy, dangerous, and it was a Marsh. Oh, it looked like some fun. Also if he got lucky he might find a crocodile to cook. He hadn't some of that in a long time. Though he knew his luck and didn't expect to find one so he wasn't that too excited. Though he'd keep his eyes open and look around in the foggy waters.

He started on one of the solid paths, or well almost solid. It was muddy but not marsh mud like most of the area. He wondered if this path would go all the way through. He didn't bother to think about it before he was on his way. People told him to avoid this marsh for the reason that some rat lived in here. Giant talking rat that ate people. So, he ate people? Big deal, so did Hotaru. Didn't most people eat each other? Maybe, he wasn't sure.

He then thought about eating and took off his backpack and swung it to his front. As he walked forward he dug around in it and looked around to see if he had anything to eat. "Crapnuggets... what happened... I swear I left that women's lungs in here somewhere." He muttered to himself as he sighed and pulled his backpack over to his back again and held it on one arm. He liked the lungs, and now they were gone. Maybe someone stole them... or did he eat them already? Nah, he didn't remember eating them.

The human was quite far from alone. Eight eyes had began to silently follow him as made his way deeper into the marsh. There had been ten, but a pair of eyes retreated into the darkness to inform the Master of the Marsh of a new guest. He came bearing gifts. He had to be one trying to be friendly with their master or perhaps a bounty hunter. They noiselessly crept in closer. When the chance was given they relieved the backpack of it's contents. All they found were lungs and they weren't even remotely decayed. They noted the human's lack of taste but still ran off noiselessly with their prize. They hoped that Vernon made him bring something more meaty on his next visit.

Vernon was curious of this new guest he was told of. It wasn't often strangers brought him gifts and it was quite lamentable the gift wasn't rotted. Probably some rookie bounty hunter who had decided to shorten his life span. Or perhaps it was another inept fan of his work like that traitor Yaksha had started out as. The human was young and short and sadly lacked the scent of demon. Perhaps he could make this creature into a pet or slave and force a demon to bond with him. He was sure that Lynth was more concerned with the ends than the means.

It's not often I get visitors in my Marsh. Who are you and why are you here?" Vernon asked from atop a crocodile skimming the water's surface as Hotaru came into view. His tail slowly swung back and forth as Vernon stared down at the human and waited for a response.

Hotaru continued on into the depts of the Marsh as the ground stayed strong enough to support a person though did get a bit muddier. His bare feet stunk into the mud every now and again and he pulled them out as the mud made a plopping sound. Ok, he didn't mind most things but this was just getting annoying to him. He would endure though, ignore it at best. When he had a chance to stop in a spot where there wasn't too much mud he would and stand there. He could only ponder why he was wandering the world like he was, then the simplistic lives of most other Humans. They wake up, work to get money or food, use it, continue the next day. They do that until they died... he could only wonder what was so important about those silver and gold coins. The only time he used money was when he couldn't get his hands on something to eat on his own. He like never carried any on him.

In his thought before pressing on into the gloomy marsh someone spoke to him. Then he noticed the smell. He could only guess who it was before looking. It was that rat he heard about. He was riding on a crocodile... which only made Hotaru hungry and he couldn't help but stare at it for a minute and imagine cooking the fresh meat over a fire. Then he turned to the Rat who was talking to him. "Well, I don't wish to be rude upon your word.... but from what I hear quite a few people disappear into this Marsh often. So it can't be... well, as you said 'Not often.' Though I'm no one to judge that... I rarely care what those simple minds think of the concept of people's time and vanishing. Worrying about how to avoid it instead of doing something..... oh wait sorry I'm rambling aren't I? Well, might as well answer your question before I start up rambling again. You may call me what you will, though the name I was given by my mother would be Hotaru. The reason I'm here... well I'd say I'm here to pass through. Now my turn for a question if you don't mind yourself. What may I address you, and do you confront me to add me to the disappearances previciously mentioned?" Hotaru said in a long drawn out time frame thinking about too many things at once and losing focus of the task at hand quite often. He only changed his attention from the rat to the sky and back again. He grinned when finishing waiting for an answer.

A long winded dim-witted smart arse by the sound of it. He had brought goodies yet did not know of the Master of the Marsh. He had intended to 'pass' through without the master's permission. how deplorable. Perhaps he wouldn't make much of a good pet after all, though sometimes the extra effort was worth it and Vernon did always enjoy educating the ignorant. His whip was such an excellent teacher. "I am Vernon, the Master of the Marsh. You seem to have at least made effort to avoid disappearing, even if accidentally. Those who foolish enter my Marsh without bearing gifts are notably lunch rather than visitors," Vernon grinned ominously. Chattering came from above Vernon and the Lungs were dropped down into his hands. Vernon looked from the Hortaru, to the musfa and then back to the human. This was all he had brought?

"Unfortunately, this will not be enough to grant you safe passage through my marsh. This part of the body is so lacking in taste and meat. Quite a poor taste in food, though Sun elves always do have such a lovely taste. Fortunately for you, it is enough to save your life; however, you will have to serve me in order to exit my marsh safely," Vernon said in a serious tone. He mildly hid his initial fury all the human had to offer was a mere pair of lungs and nothing more. That was almost worse than not knowing of the Master of the Marsh. Vernon took a bite out of the lungs and then decided it was a better snack for his pets. The taste of maiden sun elf was delightful, but barely present.

Hotaru listened to what the Master of the Marsh, Vernon, had to say, though barely. He said people who didn't bear gifts were to be lunch rather than visitors. He seemed to yawn in boredom of what this rat had to say. He noticed the lungs and then seemed to snap to attention and stare at them. So he was robbed! The Damn rat stole his food. He grinded a few of his teeth together thought seemed to relax when he said it was of a Sun Elf.

Still, it was stealing and it was his kill. The last of his food as well, he was out of chicken before he even went to eat some of the body he cut up and took with him. Though, it was an Elf, they weren't that good. He would have to serve, why would be do that? It was a waste of time and he could just like walk away though, not like he cared if the Rat came after him or not.

Safety was never his prime concern for anything, so why bother. "Well if you want something more... I can always just go grab some other Elf if you like them so much... they don't even taste that great. Plus lungs are better cooked, not raw! Anyways... yeah. I can do that." He said pointing his thumb over his shoulder towards the way he came. It didn't sound like he was making an offer to serve the Rat in that way, but just complete the deal. He didn't feel like serving anyone, nor was it something he'd find fun... well unless this rat had some cool ideas.

(and to think I thought I would have more time to post when school got out XD)

Cooked? Even rotted there was hardly much taste to lungs. Any other given organ was much better. Likely this poor little cannibal took what he could, when he could get it. That gave good room for him to become a pet where he would at least be fed, Vernon preferred to not see starvation, at least not while Famine was not around. "No. You see the time to win me over with treats has gone and past," Vernon grinned as he tossed the lungs over his shoulder. It barely had time to touch the water's surface before the calm marsh waters burst into a furry of crocodile jaws snapping out at the lungs.

"On the bright side, I feed those who serve me and I'm a capable soul like yourself would earn much more than flimsy tasteless lungs to fill his back pack. Not to mention you wouldn't have to settle for elves and I always have the finest of races on hand. Have you ever tried celestial wings?" Vernon ginned as he pulled from his back pack a relatively fresh human hand and a very recently acquired celestial wing. The wing almost looked foreign with all it's feathers lost and seem more comparable to a large chicken wing. Vernon had no idea what the little cannibal liked but he could at least guess and try to take advantage of the bizarre distaste for elven flesh.

Hotaru only watched with uncaring eyes as Vernon went to say that what he offered won't work anymore. The marsh waters burst open as crocodiles ate the lungs when they were tossed into it. Ok, this rat was taunting him. He stood there thinking. Most people would see it wise to take up his offer. Considering who he was, the small animals that were everywhere. He grinded his teeth.

The offer made by Vernon was quite good. Free food, of most of the finest races on hand. Still, to be treated like a pet. Compared to a rat? Foolish! Oh, well that is a very nice offer and all..." He started calmly, obvious he was going to decline. He started to spell cast as he moved his hands in a casual way like he was making conversation still. "Comparing me, a Human being to a pet, a normal dog... just irks my temper sometimes... now my temper can explode if left unchecked!" He spoke, once he spoke the word 'explode' he lashed out his right hand aimed at the backpack. He attempted to use his Combust spell on it. He grinned in a manner that suggested twisted thoughts. He wasn't going to let this Rat tell him what to do. He could find his own food.

His choice was clear upon his face before he even spoke. Not a surprising reply, no one ever wanted to do things the easy way. Vernon would have to beat the defiance out of him. Breaking his spirit might take a while but after beating him down it would be a pleasurable downward slide from there. As Hotura spoke Vernon wove a spell of his own. Vernon noticed that the little cannibal was doing the same. Didn't seem to be anything expressively powerful, at least as far as Vernon could tell. Vernon fired off his spell before Hotura finished speaking. His aim was impeccible and it wasn't likey he could miss and with Hotura's attention on his own spell instead it wasn't likely the cannibal would avoid getting slowed down. Unfortunately the same process seemed to work for the cannibal as Vernon's backpack exploded into flames. Vernon growled at the pain and annoyance. Fire magic was easily dealt with but that didn't make it any less bothersome or painful.

Vernon flipped back into the water, but did not stay out of sight long. It was only a few seconds before he surfaced just ahead of where he was before standing on another crocodile. "You just need something to cool you off," Vernon grinned reaching out his clawed hand. The water before him mirrored the motion and extended out to grab the cannibal.

(Took me too long to get inspiration @.@)

The moment before his spell hit the backpack, his movements were slowed down. This felt really weird, his body was going quite slower than it normally could. Vernon went back into the water after he saw the backpack explode into flames. Great, this was turning into a fight wasn't it. Not wanting to be close while he was slowed like this he quickly went to jump back after the surface of the water was broken by Vernon going into it. Even if his body was slowed, it wouldn't keep him from moving in the air any slower. This took a bit but he went to jump back as fast as he could in this form, but with enough power to carry him.

Luckily Hotaru was quite agile and acrobatic for this to help him, if anything. Once in the air Vernon had sent a claw of water after him. Everything seemed to move faster than his body, even his movement in his jump. Well, he was going back too fast for his body to keep up with. He had tried to position his foot so he would have something to rebound off of when he would hit the ground from the jump, but it came to fast for his body now. "Stupid rat." He muttered as the heel of his foot slipped on the ground and he fell back and rolled with the mud slightly. It got over him and he went to stand up, it took a while though.

How far would that water go? He didn't know and wasn't very familiar with water magic, just how to conjure fire into his fire magic. Crossing the pile of land that was in front of him before the water where Vernon was was quite a decent distance, it might not even reach because of the water not being there to help it along. Hotaru never knew though, he drew his sword as he got up to save time in his slowed movements. This mud stunk much worse now that it was on him.
