| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

"What else am I supposed to call a talking animal that eats people?" she squeaked. "Animals are supposed to be cheery, especially mice. So why aren't you? What made you so mean?" If stories were based off of him, then why were the mice in Cinderella so helpful? Wolves were supposed to be the big bad animals, not mice or rats, whichever he was - she couldn't really tell. Her head cocked to the side for a moment, wondering if maybe she could get him to be nice. Then she dismissed it - that wasn't her goal here. Her goal here was to get away and then hopefully find somewhere people actually wanted her, even if that was back on the streets stealing. Seth and Nikki wouldn't miss her. Her eyes fixed upon the strange thing that extended from Vernon's claw. Cassiel wasn't very familiar with magic, at least not the darker kind. She had no idea what he was doing, all she knew was that it didn't look very... well, pleasant. "No! I don-- AH!" For the first time Cassiel managed a soft cry. The magic hit her shoulder not even halfway through her answer, causing her eyes to clench shut and her back to arch up off the ground. Cassiel writhed on the ground and as the agony spread throughout her, she unconsciously released her hold on Flufflekins. Pain spread through her in tendrils, as if it were being carried right through the marrow of her bones. She gasped and squirmed on the ground, trying to make sound but finding that she couldn't. The pain was almost burning her, traveling through her from her toes to each single, solitary strand of hair. Cassiel managed a groan, but the pain didn't subside. "S-sto..." she forced out. It was all she could squeeze out. |

Her perception of reality was obviously blended with fictional rubbish. It was quite clear she knew nothing of animals, carnivore or omnivores like rats and mice. His pets delighted in the taste of humanoid flesh, particularly if it was joyously rotted. Not to mention any self-respecting carnivore also enjoyed the taste humanoids. No doubt another illusion the her bumbling father had surrounded her with, and most certainly another to have fun dispelling. The musfa saw their their opening swiftly swooped in on the fluffy doll. One went for the legs, another went for an exposed arm and the last musfa made for the dolls head. They each pulled separate ways causing the adorable doll to split into there and bleed it's fluffy goodness across the mucky ground. The three musfa gave their pieces a good shaking spreading more of the fluff out. The girl's promise to the doll was now as shredded as Flufflekins' body. Vernon had to reevaluated his plan when she forced out half a word and nothing more. Likely it had been too much too, but she was still alive at least. A change of scenery would be enough get mouth back to it's blabbering state. Vernon whistled and moments later the air was rended with the screeches of bats as they came up along side Vernon. Most of the bats hung along the hovering green sleigh's skis while other took to hovering in place or flying around the sleigh's bottom. Vernon licked his his clawed fingers as he put away the elven arm. The gift of lycanthropy lied mostly within saliva and it was certainly a gift that the little girl and her family needed. Which animal would she get? Likely wererat, it but could be any of them. He didn't know that this would nullify the work against the curse the zombie had laid. In fact once the full moon rose the curses effects would be minimal and the little girl only had two more night before that. She'd understand the violence of animals then for sure. "Only in stories, my dear little slave. No doubt stories from your father, and we've already shown how he can't keep his promises or even tell the truth. Animals are quite vicious and cruel. You'll come to see that in time though, just like you'll to understand the true definition of mean," Vernon snickered. Vernon bent down and grabbed for the shoulder of her uninjured arm. His claws would no doubt bite into her flesh from the exerted force. "This is your last chance. Either you get up and climb in the sleigh to enjoy the ride or I throw you in and have cheery little creatures bite and tear your flesh while while you ride. The choice is yours," Vernon snickered as as he pulled on her shouldering. It would likely be enough to get her on her feet, even if it was out of fear of losing her arm from dangling from his grip. If his estimations were correct the pain would now be lessened enough that she could still comply, but if not he got to have his fun anyways. The musfa waited for her to make her decision. If she agreed they'd steal the doll in the sleigh, but if she disagreed, they had permission to use their fangs and claws to get their prize immediatley. |

There came a rustling from the twisted trees behind the embodiment of Pestilence and his latest victim. From out of the forest emerged a beast, a tiger with purple eyes that treaded across the marsh exuding a fearsome might. It almost seemed to smirk as it came upon Vernon and Cassiel, giving a light growl at the few Musfa that turned their heads to it. Its haunches rolled and curled upwards as the creature's form began to shrink, until a normal human stood where it had been. Taking a mask from his face, he slipped it into a pocket of the brown cloak that he wore. Thankfully it was nighttime, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to remove the thing. He ran a hand through his long red hair, dislodging a few loose scraps of foliage with a scowl. "Up to something fun, Vernon?" he asked with a grin, leaning on the sleigh as he glanced down at Cassiel. The girl was familiar in scent, all right. He knew the father of this little runt well enough, he'd heard his mother speak of him on occassion. So, now he was faced with a slight dilemma. He knew that he wanted to help the poor kid- she was just a kid- but that would go against Vernon's whims. On the other hand, not helping her would piss off Cordelia if she found out. "Hmm, what to do," he muttered quietly, well aware that Vernon would hear him and not quite caring. In the end, he looked down upon the ground at shreds of what seemed to be some kind of fabric. Curious, he levitated them from the mud and much, pulling them forcefully when he had to from their musfa holders. What the Hell was it, a rabbit? |

Flufflekins... where was Flufflekins?! Cassiel realized his absence only after it was too late. Flufflekins' furry, adorable body was being torn asunder by the teeth of the wretched musfa. The doll she cherished, the doll she told every secret to, that she slept with every night protecting it in her arms was being ripped apart as if it were nothing. Its soft, cotton insides were being strewn over the ground, some sinking into the muck and some merely laying atop it. He was dead. Flufflekins was dead because of her. Her best friend... was dead because of her stubbornness. The stuffed animal that had meant everything to her, that still meant everything to her, was gone. She was never going to get to have her Flufflekins again. And it was all her fault. Why was today so horrible?! What had she done to deserve this?! Why did the gods hate her?! Cassiel clenched her eyes shut and tried to ignore the screeching, squawking, and squealing of the bats. She didn't want to see anything more, hear anymore, or endure anything. She just wanted to fall asleep; at least if she was asleep then she wouldn't have to witness any of this. She tried to tune out his voice when he began to speak. She didn't want to hear about her 'father' and her 'mother'; why had she even been a fool enough to acknowledge them with such foolish titles? She only had one mother and father and Seth and Nikkolai didn't qualify at all. Her eyes shot open and she squealed as Venon's claws sunk into the flesh of her arm. Her eyes went wide and blood began to drip from the puncture wounds his claws left. Cassiel groaned when he pulled on her shoulder, causing the blood to come in somewhat more steady streams. She got to her feet, afraid of losing her shoulder and of the animals biting her. "Please stop," she begged, her voice feeble. "Please." It was at that point her gaze flicked to the red-head leaning against the sleigh. She looked between him and Vernon, beginning to tremble. There were two of them now? She contemplated whether it was worth even begging him; he probably wouldn't save her. As he reconstructed Flufflekins, though, hope shined in her eyes and she swallowed, regaining some of her nerve. Cassiel pulled against Vernon, trying to get him to relinquish his hold on her. "Let me go, you stupid rat! I'll bite your tail off!" she screamed, beginning to thrash around again. Her attention, again, returned to Duo. "Give him to me!" she called desperately. "Please! He's my only friend! Mom and Da- Seth and Nikki hate me, so he's all I have! Please, at least let me have that!" |

The meek begging of a child, a most enticing cuisine. It almost had a nourishing effect. Maybe it did, perhaps he should play with that theory later. He payed Duo little attention until he spoke. He knew of his pets long before he was near the sleigh. He could hear Duo's approach and could tell that it was his demonic infused pet by his scent. Sure the special magic of the mask had altered the scent, but only by so much. Vernon pondered whether it not this time was poor. Vernon did not want to share his new toy, but there were notable advantages to doing so. It would prove most beneficial if Vernon used his temporary toy to aid strengthening Duo's bond with his demon. So long as Vernon watched and orchestrated playtime there wasn't too much fun lost. Duo's presence had amusingly enough had inspired new hope and courage in the girl. Too soon she would find it draining twice as much instead. She tried to squirm and wiggled away but Vernon's grip remained firm and made her efforts more harmful to herself than helpful. Her threat was laughable and he don't she could accomplish it if he was bound and gagged. "Behave yourself and maybe you might get your precious dolly back. Get in the sleigh and stop considering destroying the the little toy beyond hope of repair," Vernon half growled half snickered after deliver a swift backhand across her face. After that he turned his attention to his pet. "Breaking in a new slave, Duo. Your timing quite good actually, my pet. It's high time we worked on your bond with your demon. I assure that keeping this little slave in check will aid that. Ready your dagger. If she continues to act like a little brat you're going to free her head of all of that beautiful hair. After she's bald we can get a little more creative," Vernon explained adding extra emphasis on his final word before releasing his grip on the girl's shoulder. He licked the delicious blood off of his claws as he gave the little girl the opportunity to follow his command. |

Hmm... What a conflict of interests. On one hand, he nurtured a near-impossible-to-supress urge to help the child, while on the other, he felt a certain loyalty to Vernon. Mulling over his options, he twirled a finger above the broken form that the girl had called 'Flufflekins,' making it spin and dance. It was really a very amusing thing to do, but it couldn't last. With a sigh, he pulled the pieces into his open palm, tucking them away into his coat pocket. He gave Vernon a cursory glance, saying, "Razakel's had enough fun for tonight, the childish oaf. If I let him have too much freedom, he'll lose his subservient streak. But you would know about how to keep a subject obedient, hmm?" The last remark was barely a taunt, he knew well that the rat far outranked him in power for the moment. If it earned him a whipping later... Well, it would have been worth it. He gazed up at the night sky, concealing a smirk. "Besides, I think I smell a certain breeze headed this way... It smells of coconut and fresh strawberries, if you catch my drift," he uttered, looking down and winking at Cassiel. His eyes had become the lightest shade of lilac at some point, transitioning through their normal dark violet to a much more gentle hue. With that, the teen turned and set foot once more into the brush of the forest. There was none of his usual mad cackling, no piercing cries that broke the night, only silence as he slipped away. |

Cassiel's writhing eased as she felt Vernon's claws digging into her skin. Nothing she did was working! This wasn't how things were supposed to happen, not at all. She was certain she was bleeding, but she couldn't care while she looked at Duo, praying for help. No one else would find her, no one else knew she was here! She yelped as the back of his hand collided with her cheek, causing her head to snap to the side from the force of the blow. Her cheek stung and felt hot where he had made impact and more tears spilled over and cascaded down her cheeks. Why did the world hate her? The rat knew him. The rat knew the man who she was begging to save her. And he was bonded with a demon... Cassiel sobbed and looked down. Another person to hurt her, another person to break and shatter her beyond all hope of repair. The word bald made her look at Vernon; he had successfully regained her attention and her violet eyes were wide. "But I'll look ugly without hair!" she sobbed. It was only after she said that when she realized that was most likely the intention. What had she done...? He wouldn't even give her the doll - he was taking it. Anger spread throughout her, renewed and strengthened. "You can't take him, even if he is pieces!" she yelled. "He'll miss me! He'll miss home!" Strangely enough though his voice seemed somewhat more gentle when he spoke and the wink he offered completely confused her. She watched as he walked off, wondering why he hadn't taken her with him. Her chance was gone... it had walked away in complete silence, a door that had been wide opened had shut without any warning. His words stayed with her though and within a few moments she realized what that meant. But... they didn't love her, why would they come if they didn't love her? Regardless, they would be here, and even if they couldn't stand her that was all she cared about. She smirked and looked up at Vernon. "I'm not getting in your sleigh," she said, remaining steadfast. "Because my mommy and daddy are going to be here, the red-head just said he smelled them! And when they get here you're going to be in trouble! They may not love me at all but that... that's fine. Now let me go!" Each word was punctuated in the hopes he would understand. |

How dare his pet defy him?!? But no, a better question was why did his pet defy him? This was something th little vampire should leap to with glee, particularly if the meaning of those two tacky perfumes as he undoubtedly did. It was as if he was dealing with a different person entirely. Vernon left it as a matter to attend to later. He had Duo's lengthy life span to punish him as he saw fit. His time with he girl would not be so long whether or not he was going return her to her Father. Whether or not he was trying to give the little girl false hope, Vernon didn't care. The two pansies were hardly what one would consider a threat and even less so if it was just the two of them. Cassie seemed to think otherwise. Vernon would be glad to drown her hope with more doubt. "Your sweet father and sugary mommy, I remember them well. Did they ever tell you how they lost their eyes? If don't hurry and get in the sleigh I might have to show you first hand. With any luck you eye will taste even better than your father's. I'm sure they'll just in time to see me guzzle it down," Vernon grinned. He certainly didn't mind taking credit for another's work. Vernon Licked his lips as he thought more and more of turning the treat into a promise. "But first, I have a promise to attend to," Vernon snickered before snapping his fingers. The Musfa swiftly charged Cassiel and charged up her back towards her head. Sharp teeth would do much better than a dull dagger and of course Cassie would have the delightful sensation of someone licking her bald skull clean. More rats and musfa joined in against the assault against Cass's lovely hair. They'd get the ob done quickly and smoothly despite whatever amount of flailing Cass tried to used to protect her hair. |

As if on cue, there came from above a sound unlike any heard upon earth. Voices more beautiful than any mortal could ever dream rang out from on high, sending harmonious chords down from the heavens to reach the ears of Vernon, Cassiel, and every other living being within the Marsh. The skies were filled with white clouds, flashes of soft light dancing among them in time with the hymn that streamed forth. To Cassiel, it was to be a melody of hope; with luck, she would fall asleep and not have to witness any more horror this night. But for Vernon, this was to be a concerto of disheartenment- Gods permitting, he would be stricken with a loss of morale and an inability to perform magic as adeptly as usual. Before his feet had even dreamt of meeting the sodden floor of the marsh, Seth had brought himsef to hover upon golden wings many feet above the ground, white hair standing out against the dark night sky. His descent had been quick, speeding down from the heavens from out of the spell he had woven mere moments before. White wings beat at the air, sending down gusts at the crowd of Musfa menacing Cassiel; with luck, the winds would dislodge her. Whether or not that proved effective, he had bigger problems to manage. His gaze sweeped over everything in the area, finally settling upon Vernon. His feet found solid earth, though he was ready to spring back into the air at any second. "We're leaving," he said firmly, almost as if it was a command for Vernon to allow them to instead of a statement. Hopefully it wouldn't be too late to save Cass from the cold embrace that was Death, but with the toxins in the marsh, and in Vernon's numerous wicked forms of weaponry, he wasn't entirely sure that would be the case. Worst case scenario, he would have to buy Nikkolai time to get Cass to safety while he held back Vernon. And if he was going to hold back Vernon... With a tap of his foot upon the ground, a blue circle of light etched itself upon the moist earth, threadbare strands of water moving to create shapes within the circle. They formed a star, runes, and other intricate details, before more water began pooling into the center of the sigil from the marsh itself. It rose upwards, a full six feet, before shaping into a vaguely humanoid form as Seth's hands orchestrated the act. He may not have been able to attack Vernon himself, but a summon from the water elemental plane would hopefully prove useful. |

((ooc: edited!)) --- The rat had actually met her mommy and daddy? She knew that he'd known of them at least, since he'd spoken of how they didn't care, but the idea of her peaceful parents knowing this malicious animal was a bit frightening. If he was doing this to her, then what had he done to them? That wasn't a question she needed to ponder over for very long though, and she gasped, only to whimper a moment later. "You ate his eye?!" she screamed, panic running through her suddenly. She didn't want him to eat her eyes... maybe... maybe it would be a good idea if she just did what he told her to do. Cassiel didn't like the sound of that promise - and with good reason. The musfa quickly approached and she shrieked, flailing her one good arm to try and knock the animals away from her hair. She could feel it being ripped from her scalp and she sobbed, unable to stop the animals' assault. She was ready to give in, to let him do what he wanted, but all thoughts of giving up were dispelled from her mind at the sound of music and wings beating harsh winds to push the animals away. Cassiel looked up at her father with disbelief, tears welling up into her eyes. "I told you my dad would come!" she cried, tears streaking down her face once more, red blotches appearing on her normally smooth, clear skin from her sobbing. "Daddy...." She didn't know what to say, but she was certain he'd know just how grateful she was that he'd come to the rescue. Filled with a renewed hope due to the choir, she was incapable of allowing slumber to fall over her. If Seth was here, then where was - "Nikki!" she cried, spotting the blonde not very far off. With a grunt she forced herself up to her feet and ran for him, managing a few paces before she stumbled weakly to the ground. - She was alive, thank the gods she was alive! Relief washed over him - the battle was half won. They weren't entirely clear yet, considering they would have to fight Vernon, but so long as Cassiel was alive they'd have a chance. As soon as they got her to safety they could work on ridding her system of the various poisons she was bound to have come into contact here and healing the injuries she had received. Noticing her coming toward him, Nikkolai was about ready to pounce and run for her, but she was too close to Vernon still and after her stumble he knew it was best not to go rushing it. His gaze swept over her and his hand couldn't help but clench around the unicorn staff he was holding in anger. What had happened to her, what had they done? She was bleeding, her silver hair was shredded, her arm looked like it was broken... it would have been enough to make him cry had this situation not called for utter seriousness. All he wanted to do was pull her into a hug and kiss the top of her head and let her know that she was safe... "We're leaving." "You had your fun with her, it's coming to an end," Nikkolai said, his voice holding the same unyielding tone. "Sorry, but I'm sure there are others you could try to kill that aren't our daughter." His eye narrowed and he spared a moment to glance at Seth, knowing that he could hold back the rat while Nikki ran to her and healed all of Cassiel's ailments he was capable of healing. |

(Already poked Addie bout what needed editing. Course I'm too hyper to wait for said editing >.> <.< >.>) It was bad enough he could hear their advance on wings, but now he had deal with some god-awful noise too assailing his ears. What effect it could have on him was diminished. He had nothing to fear within his marsh and for all the people he he might of considered a threat the two flies were quite notably left off of the list. Their daughter could likely put up a better fight than them. Vernon had hoped to finish the hair cut before they came, but no it wasn't going to work like that, Pity. He was still Surprised they had gotten here so quickly The zombie couldn't have gotten far since dropping the girl off. They were at the outskirts of the marsh, yet the annoying little fool opted to hover over his marsh. Insolent fool hadn't learned his first leason very well. Luckily for him school was always in session. Vernon was down right annoyed when the fool furthered his insults by effecting the marsh with magic. Cass hadn't gotten far and Vernon was behind her every step. His tail wound around her fine neck, but not tight enough to choke her yet. He didn't need to choke her to death, she was small enough that he could csnap her neck with his tail alone, though suffocation was a slower more painful death. "I warned you both before not come into my Marsh. You think your tresspass is justified beacuse you couldn't tell your rotten little brat to avoid your mistake? You could got off easy the first time, but even I did not stoop so low as to break into your home and give out demands as you do now. She may be your daughter by blood Seth, but she's my slave now, sold to me by that zombie you follow around. You have no right to be here, just be glad I didn't put her on the menu," Vernon growled as his eyes glowered with a fear gleam. "I think Evals really does hate you. She gave away your eye and then your daughter, Trust her again and your lover will likely be next," Vernon snorted as his gaze turned breifly to Nikki. It all made perfect sense too. He had warned the zombie to to return before, she contiuned to return with freinds that suffered the consequences instead. He doubted his words would be enough to pull the woll off the eyes of tweedle dee and tweedle dumb, but it would be all the more humous if they remained blind to the truth. "But who you waste your trust on is not my concern. If you want your daughter back alive you will give me comphensation for my slave. Now of course if you want the whole family to die, I suggest we settle this affair with good old fashion violence. I suggest the violent method. I'll try to make the girl's death swift, but both of you will have a long and beautifuly painful demise," Vernon grinned darkly as he pointed his poisoned blade at Seth. Vernon's other hand played with his whip waiting for the violent method to be chosen. Vernon could amuse himself with either option, though he would be most amused to see them dragging in another child to save their own. Amusing, but probaly not possible. |
