Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

A small light danced from the small fire in front of Ethari, its gleam attacking the shadows formed by the nearby looming trees, whose shadows crept from all corners. The shadows tried to lunge and grab Ethari and pull him back into the darkness, but the light of the fire protected him. The small flames swirled back and forth, forcing the shadows back into the darkness. In reality, the shadows were not trying to capture Ethari, but in his heart, the shadows were real. A part of him, somewhere deep in his mind, creapt forward, lunging forward to sieze Ethari. This darkness was his ambition. Ethari feared if the darkness captured him he would surely resort to the darkest ways to gain power.

But like with the real shadows from the trees, there was a fire inside of Ethari to repel all of the darkness. This fire was his desire to remain pure, and learn magic to help and become a powerful, respected magician. The shadows of ambition were all around Ethari. Just today he saw a band of merchants, only two of them, their fat bellies shaking with each lumbering step they took. Ethari had the ability to make the earth beneath them come to life, the air they breath turn into a monster, the water from Norwood Lake into a creature able to kill them in a single strike. The shadows tried to tell him to kill them and take their cargo, but the fire in Ethari was alll that kept them at bay. His fire had always been there, and kept him from these kind of actions all his life. He had never murdered an innocent, or stolen or cheated, but now with his flame dwindling, he didn't know himself any longer.

Ethari turned back to his fire, in real life. It was dwindling down, its light falling back so Ethari could not see the shore of Norwood Lake. He grabbed a few logs of wood, tossing them into the fire, letting the flames leap forward and consume them hungerly. Ethari wrapped his arms around his knees, leaning forward trying to absorb the flame of the heat. He was so tired now. He had travelled for days, and decided to take a small break at the lake in Norwood. At this very same spot he had meet with his friends, Hecate and Saeborn, for the the first time. They had such a strong bond then, but now, he wasn't even in sure if they were alive or dead.

Ethari fell onto the soft grass, closing his eyes to let the night pass into day and grant him another chance to prove his fire to the shadows of his ambition. The night passed uneventfully, allowing Ethari a chance to gain his energy back after a day of moral struggles. He was so morally drained right now. He was so alone in his life, his friends were dead or forgotten, and now he was alone next to the lake that started the friendship he had before. Exhausted, Ethari sat up, grabbing a stick and poking at the embers of the flames of last night, and the flame inside his heart.

((Okey....I will do my best but I do not think I can do the same mysterious talk about fire and shadows with Chris to be honest....hard to do that with a 14 year old boy. :P ))

It had been a rather good hunt today for Chris, it was not often he did catch something by himself and without the help from Fara´re. Of course this time he had failed like a milion times before he got it right. Either he was to quick yo strike or to late to strike. Well either way he laid on the grass and watched the pray run away into the bushes. But finally he got it right and now had a dead rabbit over his shoulder as he walked thought the forest. It was starting to get pretty late and he knew that he was most likely not going to be able to return to the cave tonight. Well no problem he would just have to sleep outside, make a fire to cook this little creature whom he still asked for forgiveness a little now and then as he walked. But he stopped walking when he remembered one important thing...or two really, one: How the hell did one make the rabbit eatable with all the fur? two: How was he going to make a fire?!

Chris sighed to himself and thought for a moment about his options, he could try and get back to the cave and to Fara´re. But that would take hours and the boy was really really hungry. Then of course he could eat the rabbit without cooking it...it was still meat and he loved meat. But then the problem with the fur came back again. He did not feel like eating fur today. If there was just someone around the lake tonight that could help him with this rabbit! The weretiger teen raised his gaze and carefully began to search the area around the large lake with his eyes. It was then that he saw the light in the distance, it was a fire on the other side of the lake!

Chris began to make his way around the lake, he was moving quickly thought the shadows and stopped behind a tree closer to the light, he slowly peeked out and tried to get a picture of the person by the campfire, he could see right away that it was a humanoid person. It was most likely not a bandit since he was alone and the bantids always moved in groups of three or more. It took Chris a moment to gather all his courage to try and make contact with the stranger. He took a few deep breathes and then he nodded slightly.

He was a warrior, he was brave and with high courage! Nothing was going to scare him tonight! With these thought he was about to walk out from behind the tree but it did not turn out as he wanted since his tail moved in between his legs and tripped him...betrayed by my own tail? was the last thing he had the time to think before he with a low sound landed on the ground not far from Ethari. What a great first impression he just made to whoever this might be! Chris slowly moved his green eyes so that he was looking towards the stranger, if he had not heard that then the man must be very absent-minded. Chris could not see him very well because of the strange lights created by the fire and like anything else he looked rather redish.

((Okey it was not as good as yours. :P Sorry about that really but my first posts rarely are very great on the list of greatness. ))

Ethari quietly poked the embers of the fire from the previous night in front of him, a tired and weary expression painted on his face. Although he had slept peacefully next to the lake, his heart was still troubled. He needed hope in a moment like this. Maybe the radiant light of a hopeful moment might fight the shadows he spent so much time last night thinking about. Sometimes he wondered if having a developed brain was working against him. He often spent time wondering his existence, his feelings, and his emotions. Previously, these thoughts led to wonderful enlightenments, and granted him large amounts of sentience. He was able to use his complex thought processes to master the large amount of summoning spells he knew. But now, in a darker moment of his life, his constant thinking reminded him of how in a world of millions of people, his own life was pointless. He was a speck on the world, a no one. He had no place. No one did. He lived to die, as did the rest of the world.

A small shuffling sound caught Ethari's attention. A were tiger boy was approaching him, in his early teen years. Ethari changed his look of depression into something more happy, as to not scare away this newcomer. The teen tripped on the tail curled beneath his legs, causing him to trip forward and fall. He hastily regained his composure. Ethari let out a hearty laugh, bemused at the new face. Maybe his life wasn't so pointless after all. He just needed to be reminded of the other people in the world and how great their company could be. Ethari decided not to dismiss this boy immediately as a pest, but rather, help him, for he seemed to have a problem of some sort.

Ethari stood up, standing about a foot taller than the child, and spoke to him, a smile plastered on his face. "Don't be afraid child! I'm sorry if I seemed so glum earlier, I needed a bright face in the morning to cheer me up!" Ethari smiled himself, placing his hands on his hips and letting out a large chuckle. He noticed the rabbit slung over his shoulder. "Let me cook that for you," Ethari said, grabbing some wood and placing it in the make shift fire pit he had created the night before. After he had sufficient amounts of wood, he grabbed his wand, and pointed it at the pile. Ethari channeled magic energy into the wand, and casted the Create Sparks spell.

Sparks flew from his wand in a marvelous display, landing on the wood, and igniting them. In moments, there was a happy flame dancing before them. "Now let's get the fur off of that rabbit," Ethari said cheerfully, grabbing the rabbit, and skinning it with his dagger. He cut the meat into large bite sized chunks, and placed them on sticks so the two of them could cook them on the open flame. "Do you mind if I could share some of this rabbit with you? Maybe later I can find you nice big fish for some payment for this delicious rabbit!"

(Your post was excellent! Now we have a nice plot coming. :D )

Chris of course got rather red in the face as the stranger laughed at him, well who could blame him really? That fall did look rather stupid....who would trip over there own tail anyway? Fara´re never did that, nor any of the other weres he knew. Tracyn....Taima. Chris slowly got to his feet and brushed some dust of his pants, then he looked towards Ethari, or he had to look up since the man was taller then what he was. He looked weird now that Chris got a closer look, his skin was blue or to the blue anyway. He had never seen someone like him before. But then again he had not seen much people other then weres of different kinds and since the man was smiling he could not be in the thoughts to hurt Chris.

The young weretiger blinked a few times and listened to the strangers words. "I´m not afraid sir...." he replied, but from the tune one could not be to sure if that was true or not. He was after all just 14 and this stranger did look rather weird up close. He did not get it right away when the man talked about cooking something for him, then he remembered the rabbit on his shoulder and looked at it. Yeah that was the reason why he had gotten close to this stranger to begin with, he had captured his first real hunt all by himself. He glanced over to the man as he began to make the fire ready and his eyes widened as Ethari used magic and he did take a slight steep backwards. Yes Chris had seen magic before but ever since the accident with him and Tracyn being burned Chris had been somewhat afraid of fire and tried to not get to close of it.

Chris was unsure if he wanted to let the man take the rabbit he had captured, but he did not do anything to stop him when he grabbed it since to be honest Chris was hungry! He walked a little closer and watched the man as he worked with the dead animal, he really had to learn how to do that for himself, and it was easy to see that he was interested to watch what Ethari was doing.. Then he could show it to Fara´re and she would be really proud, after that she would not have to leave dry meat in the cave and Chris would be able to hunt food for both of them! He shook his head to the question if he minded to share. "I do not mind at all to share the meat with you. I captured this rabbit all by myself...it is my first pray." he sounded very proud about this fact when he said it and of course he was proud. The man should know hos important this tasty rabbit was from other rabbits.

((Thanks. :P Yea we have something interesting coming our way here! ))

Ethari waited with a smile on his face, hoping to make some conversation with the weretiger in front of him. This was his first encounter with a weretiger, and he was eager to learn more from this teenager. To be honest, he felt a sense of gratitude to the boy for even showing his face to Ethari. Ethari owned a magical artifact, called the Wolf Mantle, which allowed Ethari to transform into a werewolf whenever he donned the hood upon himself. Now, that he was face to face with a real were person, he was hoping to learn a bit more about the phenomenon. But if the boy wished to keep his facts secret, Ethari would respect that. It was the least he could do for this teen that had rekindled the flame that had grown so small during the past few weeks.

"I do not mind at all to share the meat with you. I captured this rabbit all by myself...it is my first prey," the boy exclaimed, in response to Ethari's first question. Ethari propped the sticks up by the flame, to allow them to cook, and turned to the child. "I must say, your first prey! You must be proud of yourself! I can tell in your voice, that you are truely happy. My name is Ethari Xilophent, a mage. I use magic to do many things, and it is my wish that one day I can become a great magician, and help those who need my help." Ethari's gaze turned downwards for a moment.

"I have to be honest with you child, I desire power. That thrill you got when you captured your first prey, I feel that way when I gain power. I feel the urge to get power through any means possible. And at a dark point in my life, I even considered hurting people just for my own need of power. But that would be like hunting wounded prey, it wouldn't be fair." Ethari turned to the child with a smile. "I hope you understand," he added, his eyes staring at the boy. "That even though there are ways to get stronger, they aren't right. Stay on the right path. I'm warning you! Don't let what happened to me happen to you! Darkness only consumes, and once it is done, there is nothing left. All that remains is darkness."

Ethari grabbed the sticks of rabbit meat, which were now properly cooked, and turned them to the boy, handing once to him. "Now enough of that nonsense! How about you tell me your name while we enjoy your first prey!" Ethari took a bite out of his own stick of rabbit, smiling while he chewed happily.

Chris smiled happily to the words and he nodded to show that he was happy and that Etheri was right to think so. "Yeah my very first, all by myself. I really have to tell mom about it when I get back to the cave later." he said with a bright happy smile in his face. The tail moved in the shape of and 8 and it often did that when he was happy or in any other way excited about something. He tilted his head to the side as the mage told his name and what he was and about his wish to become a great magician. "Nice to meet you Ethari" he bowed his head slightly, it was clear this man was powerful and all that so he knew that one should treat such people with respect. Then he thought for a moment before he continued to talk. "I have actually never meet a mage before, but I think magic is really cool and I would really love to be able to use more magic. The most magical about me is the fact that I am a weretiger, oh and I can do this!." he made a little gesture and summoned some water that landed on the grass next to him, he nodded a little and then he looked back at Ethari with a bright boyish smile. "Was that okey?" the question was because since Ethari was a mage he would know such things and it could be nice to hear from a mage that the spell he did worked nicely.

Chris listened to the talk about him wanting power, the boy did not really figure why Ethari took this subject to talk about but as he was a polite young man he did not try to say anything while the mage was talking. It really sounded like serious talk so Chris tried to get in everything he said of those words of wisdom. "Well most people have something dark in there past, or that is what some old man said once I was in the village buying things for Fara´re. Since you are able to you know....tell me this then I do not think you are that bad. Well you said you wanted to be a great mage so that you could help people that needed help, I might not know much about magic and all that but I do think that if you have more power then it would be easier to help others, so I do not think it is all that wrong for you to want power. Right?" he examined Ethari after he asked this, he was not sure if what he said was right, to tell the truth he was not sure if he understood the words himself since he only said what he had heard other tell. He thought about the words of the right path and that made him a little confused. "Ethari, you said I have to stay on the right path? Well....how do I know the path I take is the right one?"

"Now enough of that nonsense! How about you tell me your name while we enjoy your first prey!"

Chris happily accepted the meat that was given to him as Ethari was done cooking it, he took in the smells for a moment and then he grinned before he began to eat, he did not have much of a table manner, that was not used very often out in the wild like this. His eyes looked at Ethari as he listened to his oice again and he first tried to talk but noticed her could not because of the meat he had in his mouth. He had to finish the meat he had in his mouth first and then he tried again. "My name is Christofer, but you can call me Chris. I live here in the forest with Fara´re in her cave." he made a pause and ate some more of the rabbit before he continued. "Well to tell the truth Christofer is not my real name at all....Fara´re gave me that name since....well I do not remember my real one. She found me in the forest around the lake and I do not remember anything before waking up there." even if this was that sad he did not at all sound very sad about this little fact.

Ethari listened quietly to the boy as he explained some details about himself to Ethari. "Yeah my very first, all by myself. I really have to tell mom about it when I get back to the cave later." Ethari felt a surge of relief wash over him. He was afraid this child was homeless, in which, he would make it his own duty to aid him. But the child had a home, which quelled Ethari's suspicions. "Nice to meet you Ethari" the boy added, bowing slightly. "I have actually never meet a mage before, but I think magic is really cool and I would really love to be able to use more magic. The most magical about me is the fact that I am a were tiger, oh and I can do this!." The boy gestured, creating a pool of water, which landed on the ground.

"Was that okay?" he questioned, looking up inquisitively. Ethari nodded to himself, the spell was performed extremely well for a boy who knew so little about magic. "Well most people have something dark in their past, or that is what some old man said once I was in the village buying things for Fara´re. Since you are able to you know....tell me this then I do not think you are that bad. Well you said you wanted to be a great mage so that you could help people that needed help, I might not know much about magic and all that but I do think that if you have more power than it would be easier to help others, so I do not think it is all that wrong for you to want power. Right?" Ethari nodded even more. The most true words came from the most pure of heart. His words were correct.

"Ethari, you said I have to stay on the right path? Well....how do I know the path I take is the right one?" Ethari cursed himself slightly. He shouldn't make a child so worried about choosing 'the right path'. Ethari didn't even know this child, but he could tell that one day, he would be an amazing person, helping others. My name is Christopher, but you can call me Chris. I live here in the forest with Fara´re in her cave." he made a pause and ate some more of the rabbit before he continued. "Well to tell the truth Christofer is not my real name at all....Fara´re gave me that name since....well I do not remember my real one. She found me in the forest around the lake and I do not remember anything before waking up there."

Even though this last statement sounded sad, his words were not remorseful. "Well Chris," Ethari said ",it doesn't matter if you awoke and don't remember anything, your home and your heart belong with the people you love." Ethari looked at the lake for a moment, thinking where his own heart should belong. "Well," Ethari said after a while ", that spell you cast was actually performed very well!" Ethari stepped forward, and flicked out a small, thin blue piece of wood, that was his Waves Wand.

"Here," he said facing the lake ", let me show you a better way to cast that spell." He flourished his wand. "Concentrate you energy, and focus it so the spell can be performed with maximum efficiency." He flung his wand in many directions. He finished the spell, sending two gallons of water crashing into the lake, sending ripples in every which direction. "Eventually," Ethari said, turning to the campfire ", you can do many different things with your energy, the same energy that created that water. You can create rain! Or lightning, poison. All sorts of things are available to you once you open your mind!" Ethari gazed passionately at the fire, the fire inside of him blazing as well. His love of magic would never diminish.

((Okey this post made me confused since you used very much of what I said. XD ))

Ethari did not say very much, but Chris did not mind since the man nodded a little now and then so he did listen to what the weretiger told him. So that was a good thing then.

"Well Chris," Ethari said ",it doesn't matter if you awoke and don't remember anything, your home and your heart belong with the people you love."

Chris listened to the words as the mage said these things, and then he nodded slowly. "Yeah your right about that Ethari, I do not remember anything so I do not have anything to miss or be sad about." he said with a smile. "and I am happy now, I have mommy Fara´re and all other people I love, big bro and bigger big bro." the smile grew to a friendly grin and then he took a big bite from the rabbit meat he had in his hands and it tasted wonderfully. Even more wonderful since he was the one to make the hunt and the catch. He could not wait to tell Fara´re about this! It was going to be wonderful.

Chris smiled again as the mage said that he had done the spell nicely, it felt really good when a real mage said he had done a good job to make the spell work right. The teen then tilted his head as Ethari continued to talk and then picked out some kind of stick. Chris had never seen a wand so he could not know what it was, but he had a quess it did have something to do with the use of magic as Ethari talked about magic when he was holding it. He then watched in silence as the man began to tell him about how to make the spell more affective and then showed him how he did it. Chris did not say anything and he just listened to when Ethari was finished with his talk. "That was awesome!" was the very first thing the boy said, and he was of cours talking about the spell Ethari had done, the better form of the one Chris did a moment before. "I would really want to open my mind if I could be able to do things like that, but..." he made a pause. "how DO I open my mind? I mean I am sure you can do like even more awesome things...right? I wish I could do that to." it was not at all hard for him to see that Ethari loved to talk about things like these, so he wanted the man to be happy by talking about something he liked to talk about and knew much about of course.
