| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

She let out a content sigh as the constant crackling of the firewood filled the night air. She casually watched a stray ember take off into the sky, weaving and floating on an invisible breeze before blinking out into darkness once more. Solara felt close to those embers that fled the heart of the bonfire and instead sought their own fate in the uknown beyond. She had taken this evening to be away from the Academy of Magic and its thick walls. She felt that the Academy really was the heart of her fire. It was where she was closest to her own fuel - unlearned knowledge that she needed to consume in order to thrive in the world. Tonight, she was tired of being restricted to the fire pit. Those same walls that kept her safe and focused were also threatening to stifle her. She was eternally grateful to the mage that allowed her this escape. He had given her what was now her most valuable treasure. He had opened her a portal to the lake, which would have otherwise taken her days of tiring travel to reach. A lone gemstone sat in a small satchel that she had brought with her. It would be enough to help her return to the Academy when she had finished collecting her thoughts. Even if it would be utterly destroyed in the process, she was not disappointed. She only wanted the night. She had piled a bonfire that was warm enough to keep her away from the evening chill. The lake was not foreign to her. She had visited it even as a child. Tonight was cloudless, and the stars were shining brightly. Being so near to the fire brought her to a state of inner peace. She stared into the heart of the fire and started to drift back to thoughts of her mother and the few happy moments of her childhood that were still her own. |

The night was calm and quiet as Rune rode through the air astride Valen. The dragon had long ago gotten used to when she would frequently have nightmares. Tonight wasn't a nightmare though, but something much more unsettling. Sadly neither of them knew what to make of it. Either way, he had taken her flying to simply get her away from everything else. He had flown away from the desert and to a lake that she had favored before... before everything that had happened. He saw a light not far from the edge of the lake, a fire, and let himself glide down over the water to land on the shore a safe distance from the fire. Rune slid off of him before he had even settled his wings, landing on the ground with a thump that was quiet compared to his own landing. She was dressed in loose gray paints secured at her waist and ankles and she wore leather shoes on her feet. Her top was a simple gray shirt held close to her by wide strips of the same type of fabric wrapped around her entire torso, acting like a corset without the boning. Normally she had her armor on over that, but she wasn't armed or armored tonight. The fire almost seemed to call to her, so Rune found herself walking over there without a word to Valen. She stopped close enough to be seen by the firelight when she saw a figure by the fire. "Pardon, may we join you?" Rune asked, fatigue edging her tone. Valen stopped right behind Rune, his head over her form. |

Solara was too distracted by the flames to hear anything that was happening around her. She may have missed the dragon's roar if she fell any more into the trance. She simply watched as the wood glowed and let off the gorgeous flames. She was so pleased that her greatest joy was so easy to find. As a little girl, she knew she had the most amazing gift waiting for her every night. Her mother would bring her over to the fireplace and sit Solara on her lap. Then, as they had rehearsed countless nights, Solara would point at the fire and make an exploding noise. It would ignite immediately with a comforting crackle. They would both laugh and her mother would hold Solara close while it burned. It was their time. Solara missed her mother so much. She caught a lone tear falling down her cheek as she was shaken from her memory by a voice. Solara sniffed and wiped her eye quickly while she turned to face the sudden noise. Not one, but two figures loomed at the edge of the firelight. She was pleased that they had not ventured closer without saying something. She scolded herself silently that she had been so careless while alone in the forest. It was something she had been working, but she kept failing. Then, her eyes were able to make out a little more detail. She squinted and considered the voice one more time. "Ornell? Is that you?" she asked, hoping she was not mistaking that amazing woman with a complete stranger. |
