| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Wow, the innkeeper really wasn’t that friendly. Well, Cassiel supposed he had reason – after all the trouble she had caused at that place it was only fair that he not permit her inside. Still, though, it was freezing cold, and to leave a little girl out on the street wasn’t very kind. Snow lined the somewhat soggy, slushy dirt road, making Cassiel wonder if it could really even very well be called a street now. The thought wasn’t very important, though, and within moments she dismissed it. Her hands reached up behind her head and pulled the string from her silver hair, allowing it to cascade down her back and around her. The wind whipped at it immediately, tangling it every which way. Cassiel clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth and pushed her hair behind her ears with a great deal of impatience. It was at that point that she noticed a young woman walking her way and Cassiel perked up a little, her eyes fixed on the purse hanging from her arm. Seth had told her that stealing was bad, and she knew that she probably should refrain, but old habits die really hard. She waited until the woman had walked a few feet passed her before stalking after her and reaching into the purse, snatching a small bag of gold coins and stuffing it into a ripping pocket on her dress, not wasting any time before running in the opposite direction. However, that ripping pocket on her dress proved to be a significant problem. The harder she ran the more the bag of coins jingled and bounced around in her pocket, making the rip worse until eventually her pocket wouldn’t hold. With a loud clang the bag was freed, the sound of coins scattering across the ground following instantaneously. Cassiel looked down in horror and muttered obscenities no little eight-year-old should be saying, dropping to her knees and doing her best to grab at the coins with numb, stiff, quivering fingers, hoping that she could gather the money and get out of her before anyone noticed. |

Cold...it was cold that night. No, it was not because of the snow or the chilly breeze that loose in the night air. He always felt cold, so cold. The robed figure stopped trudging through the thick snow briefly to wipe large amounts of snow which had accumulated on his shoulders. His dark blue robes and hood looked grew now, thanks to the weather. He looked on ahead through his white mask and saw the lights of a village up ahead. He did not like being around other people, at least not while he was in his current condition. Still, he did not like...being alone. So, the lone figure began to slowly make his way toward the village up ahead. |

Cassiel’s breathing had sped up in fear and anxiety, but once all the coins were back in her possession and in the small bag she began to relax. She tied the opening securely with the string that had come loose and held it to her heart, finally sighing and believing that she was in the clear. She wouldn’t get caught again, like she had been last time; just the recollection of what had happened the last time she was caught sent a shudder up her spine. She put the pouch of coins in the opposite pocket, although that one was torn just like the other one. Still, it was better than holding it out in the open for everyone to see – at least with it semi-hidden no one would ask questions as to why a little girl was carrying that sort of money with her, especially a girl who looked as dirty and as poor as she did. With somewhat unstable legs she rose to her feet, looking around before noticing someone approaching Kellen’s gates. Her heart sunk a little bit and she stood motionless while he proceeded forward. Cassiel shifted her weight between her feet, stuck between the ideas of running and sticking around to see what he was like. “Hey, Mister… you’ve got something funny on your face!” she commented, cocking her head to the side at the sight of the mask. |

“Hey, Mister… you’ve got something funny on your face!” He turned his masked face, and spotted a little girl dressed in ragged clothing. She seemed to be stuck between the emotions of intrigue and fear... "It is my mask." He commented to her, in his low toned voice. He reached up and adjusted his mask slightly, hoping that it had not moved out of place again. The last thing he needed would be for someone to notice that he had no visible face...again. People found his odd mask and glowing blue eyes unsettling enough as it was, but once they noticed that he had no visible face. Well, that was usually when they brought out the pitchforks and axes. He slowly made his way forward, trying to not make any direct eye contact with the little girl...or anyone else for that matter. "Poor little girl...to be all alone and in this weather..." He would have liked to have done something to comfort her, but he doubted that she would appreciate the gesture. She obviously found him frightening. It would probably be best just to go on his way and find some place to hide in until later. |

Well, she knew that. Cassiel wasn’t blind or stupid, despite her age. Of course it was a mask… but why was he wearing one? There was no need to hide here, not in Kellen – from her experience it was one of the calmer places in Imythess. Her eyes narrowed as she examined him, leaning in a little bit and tilting her head while she craned her neck. “But why are you wearing one?” she asked, daring to step forward. He was peculiar, but she didn’t think he was a threat or that he would hurt her in some way. “It’s weird. Seriously. Take it off.” Cassiel was too young, of course, to understand that some people liked their privacy or that he might have had a reason to wear such a thing. “… And why do your eyes look like that?” |

“But why are you wearing one?" The little girl asked him, taking a step forward. "It’s weird. Seriously. Take it off… And why do your eyes look like that?” Buan did not know what to do, the little girl was a little more curious than the usual child. Taking off his mask would only scare her, so that was out of the question. "I could say that I am hidiously deformed?" That might work, but how to explain away his eyes? "Don't be silly, your just imagining things." Yeah right, that would never work... Buan halted in his tracks and answered quickly. "I am scarred and ugly. That is why I wear this. "He pointed to his mask. "Please leave me be, little girl. I have somewhere to be tonight." Buan then began to move forward again. "You should probably find a place warm to stay, yourself. You would not want to freeze." Buan added as he trudged forward. He had decided to ignore the question about his eyes, hoping she would not take notice. He was really hoping that he could avoid being run out of this village. He detested being chased by angry mobs of villagers. |

He didn’t sound very convincing, but if he wanted to call himself scarred and ugly then Cassiel wouldn’t argue. He probably was. She nodded, accepting this and for the time being forgetting about his eyes. Maybe he just had some issues from the scarring or something. She had seen stranger – like cats made out of magic, for example. She was shocked when he told her to leave him alone, but perhaps she shouldn’t have been. The only people that really tolerated her or seemed to want her around were Seth and Yaksha, but she still didn’t trust either of them very much. “Fine, I’ll go. I don’t know where though. None of the inns or taverns let me in anymore…” Cassiel huffed, not going to tell him the exact reason why. “I’ve stayed out on worse nights than these, Mister.” She shook her head, not wanting his concern. To try and keep him around longer, she added, “I’m Cas. And you areeeee?” |

“Fine, I’ll go. I don’t know where though. None of the inns or taverns let me in anymore… I’ve stayed out on worse nights than these, Mister." Buan seemed to feel more and more sorry for this girl by the second. The fact that she sorta reminded him of his own little girl did not help either. "I’m Cas. And you areeeee?” He heard the girl ask him. He stopped once again and turned toward her. He looked at her through the eye holes of his mask, "My name is Buan Brennan..." He paused as if in thought. "Care to join me, Cas? Perhaps we can find shelter together and get out of this cold?" He asked. He hoped what he was doing would not end badly. He really did not want to leave the girl out there alone though. |

((OoC: DX wrong account. sorry.)) ---------------- “Buan.” The name was a little hard to say and seemed a little weird as first, so Cassiel continued to repeat it until she got the hang of it. Once she did she nodded, feeling satisfied that she had conquered such a difficult word. It still didn’t sound entirely like what he had said, but it was good enough for now. When he asked if she wanted to join him to find shelter, Cassiel looked down. “I can show you to the inn,” she said. “But they won’t let me in there. I… overstayed my welcome.” Cassiel laughed nervously and began to walk back in the direction of the inn, glancing over her shoulder to make sure he was following. “It’s not too far. What are you doing here, though, Bwoon? Darn, I had it before!” Cassiel huffed and began to put as she walked, repeating his name again to try and reach the proper pronunciation as she had done before. |

Buan actually gave a chuckle as he listened to the girl try to correctly pronounce his name. His mask's expression changed from a sad expression to a happy one as his spirit lifted a little. He liked children. "I am just passing through." He began to follow after the girl, slowly. His mask's expression changed back to its former gloomy look as he got closer and closer to the inn. Bad memories were beginning to resurface in his mind and with them came doubts. Buan was not too sure about this. Still, it was not impossible, he had stayed at inns before without anything happening. Perhaps this night would be one of those times where he could pull it off. |

“Well that sounds like fun,” Cassiel said sarcastically, rolling her violet eyes. She didn’t notice the mask changing expressions, but then again she couldn’t have when she was in front of him and not looking behind anymore. She could see the light to the tavern-inn not too far off. Cassiel slowed down, wanting to talk to this odd stranger for a little bit longer. “Where are you going, then? If you’re just passing through you must be going somewhere.” She turned around at that point, walking backward while she looked at him. She smirked a little bit, feeling incredibly clever for realizing something so complicated. |

She had a smug smirk on her face like as if she thought she had done something very clever. "I am just looking for someone." He answered her, carefully choosing his words. "Carefull, watch your steps, you might trip." He warned her, partly because he was geniunely concnerned and partly because he did not like her watching him so intently. He was hoping she would turn around. "So this village. Would you say it is friendly?" Buan asked her, to change the subject. |

“Who?” Cassiel asked. A child’s curiosity could be a horribly dangerous thing – and she didn’t even realize she may have been treading on sensitive ground. Buan’s warning seemed to jinx her luck and at that moment Cassiel screeched, her heel hitting a rock that was protruding from the ground. Her arms flailed in the air while she tried to catch her balance and she fell backwards, grunting when her back collided with the cold, hard soil. The coins fell from her pocket again and scattered across the ground. Cassiel sighed and pushed herself into a sitting position, a look of discomfort on her face from the fall. She groaned and looked at the open pouch, beginning to wearily pick up her stolen money. “Yeah, I guess it’s friendly. If you obey the law and all that stuff.” She shrugged half-heartedly. |

“Who?” Cass asked. Buan then remembered that he was dealing with a child, and there are few things that can be more curious than a child. Buan let out a quiet sigh, "Children." He thought to himself. He began wondering how to answer the girl's question, when suddenly the girl tripped and fell backward. When she hit the ground, a bag of gold fell from her pocket and spilled its shiny contents all over the snow. Cass imediately got up from the ground and began to pick the gold pieces. “Yeah, I guess it’s friendly. If you obey the law and all that stuff.” She shrugged half-heartedly. Buan moved closer to the kneeling girl. He then knelt down and picked up a gold piece. "Mind if I ask where you got all this from?" Buan asked Cass as he handed her the gold piece. He already had an idea, but he wanted to be sure... |

Cassiel continued to hurriedly retrieve her money when she noticed Buan pick up a piece. For a few moments she was frozen, staring at him and her money. If he thought for even a moment that he was going to bamboozle her out of a single coin then he had another thing coming! He didn’t really seem like the type to do that, but Cassiel hadn’t known him for very long so she couldn’t exactly trust him entirely, now could she? Deciding to leave the matter be until he actually tried to take from her, Cassiel returned to picking up the pieces, managing to get almost all of them. Then Buan asked a question that made her freeze again. Cassiel swallowed roughly and contemplated her options; her little mind racing like it had never raced before. This question had been asked of her many, many times, most often by town guards before her money was taken away. She clutched the pouch protectively, not wanting him to do what various other adults had done when they saw through the details of her story. “I-I-I earned it?” she tried, her heart racing and her anxiety levels rising. She snatched the coin from Buan and rose to her feet. “I-It’s mine! My-My dad gave it to me because I earned it! Why are you questioning me?!” Her eyes narrowed angrily and she pouted, hoping that her story would work for once. |
