| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Evals was ready to stay on her own, and Nikki seemed to realized she was going to stay as he said they would come back with help. Vernon said the one left behind would be left alive, does that include being intact and in a single piece? Before she had a chance to say anything else, Seth went and offered himself. He told her to take Nikki and leave. Seth, he couldn't be torn apart and left alive like she could, Seth wouldn't be able to live if all of his bones were broken, he could heal himself as well. She could reattach her own limbs now, mend herself with magic, but Seth was beyond that in healing himself. It was sensable enough, she didn't heed Vernon a while ago telling her to lose the hostility. She wouldn't, though she put one of her claws back. "Don't tell me that Nikki. Now Seth, don't let him get the better of you." she said before looking at the huge rat which was putting them in this position. She held her death glare on him. Ok, we're leaving." Evals said now turning to Nikki and grabbed his forearm in a Death grip. She started heading away from the area pulling the Half Fairy along. A feeling of doom crept over her, Seth better come back alive. She was going to have to rant at him about coming to the marsh. She just hoped he came back, alive or not. If he did die she would have a say about that. "You stop keeping up, I'll just keep pulling you. You try to go back for Seth, I'll break your arm." she whispered to Nikki making it clear. She didn't want to leave him, it didn't matter that much. Just she didn't want to lose to that Rat. If anyone of those furballs came near them she would shred it open. If Seth didn't come back, she would hold to what Nikki said to her. Go back with some help. |

"I am a man of my word," Vernon grinned in reply. That word certainly wasn't trustworthy, though Vernon presently had not intention of killing the unlucky soul that stayed. It was really a shame Nikki wouldn't be staying with him. Perhaps he should have requested he be the one to play with him. Oh the fun it would be to hear his unheeded complaints and pleas. But, alas he was inevitably left with the celestial doof. Not a surprise given that he seemed to be an infused as well. It was probably for the better, he'd likely have eaten both of the other two. Nikki wasn't rotted and decayed, but he might not be able resisting testing if the creature tasted as sweet as he seemed. "Well, now that that's sorted..." Vernon began after it was apparent they were leaving the goody-two-shoes infused. "Scum!" Vernon yelled. A large dire rat crawled out of the marsh and onto the road near the wolf. "Escort the unlikely pair of intruders out of my marsh," Vernon commanded. The large rodent slowly made it's way back they way they had came and the foaming wolf moved to the side to grant passage for the the zombie and fairy. "I do suggest you keep up. Hopefully the butterfly joins you two, I can't guarantee the safety of something so.... frail. And if you come back to my marsh even to come save your friend as you spoke of, I can assure you that the results shall be pleasing only for me. You can expect to find him in Norwood tomorrow night," Vernon grinned darkly as he shooed the pair away with his hand. A full day of fun would be long enough, and it would likely seem to Seth than ages pasted rather than minutes. "The marsh keeps nothing secret from me," Vernon snickered in reply to the unanswered question of how he knew. Despite the truth within his words, his acute ears were what had caught their whisperings. "Perhaps we should consult the marsh to find out which game we will play first. Let you the voices of my marsh be heard," Vernon snickered before a a fell wind blew through the air. It was unfelt but gave spines a sudden urge to shiver. "How fortunate, The one who thought he had the right to be where he should never venture," answered an old wisened voice that was akin to branches creaking in the wind. "You should shower us in his delicious blood!" interjected a sweet chorus of voices that seemed to come from several pretty flowers found on the side of the road. The other voices bloomed into being, most spoke in angry tones that showed their dislike of the insolent intruder. Some voices seemed hardly more than whispers, but all could cool still be heard by the departing zombie and half-fairy. "Let the leeches drain him dry!" "Kill the insolent fool!" "Eat his eye!" "Rip of his ears!" "He'd make a lovely Wasp's nest!" "Kill him!" "Beat his friends with his body parts!" "Death to the infidel!" "Tie him down and make him eat his friends!" "Kill him!" "Take him to the dragon's den!" "He'd make a most divine fertilizer!" "Such lovely options, heard one you like?" Vernon snickered as dropped down before Seth. He swiftly drew his whip and cracked in the air before speaking again."It doesn't seem like it would be fair to follow the majority." What would he say? Would he beg for somthing else? Would he keep his composure? Would he pick one of the options? |

"I want you to take Nikki and leave. Go away from the marsh, and don't turn back." Nikkolai’s eyes widened in astonishment. Seth couldn’t stay here by himself! He would get killed! He knew one of them had to stay, that was the sacrifice they had to make for trespassing, but why did it have to be Seth? Why couldn’t it have been himself?! He had already almost been beaten to death once, he could put up with it again! “Seth…” he whimpered, about to step toward him to at least hug him goodbye when he felt Evals grab hold of his arm. His jaw dropped from how tightly she was holding onto him; to be truthful it hurt. He tried to get loose from her hold, only to fail. Nikkolai wasn’t as strong as the other two. It was a wonder they brought him anywhere to begin with… His eyes began to water, both from how Evals was dragging him and from the way Vernon was talking about their friend. Nikkolai immediately hated himself; how could he just let Seth stand there and take whatever was to be thrown his way? It wasn’t right… he was a horrible, horrible friend! He should have stayed there with him! “… You try to go back for Seth, I'll break your arm." Nikkolai’s gaze shot to her and he swallowed. As much as he loved her and cherished her as a friend, that wasn’t a very nice thing to say. Even Vernon warned not to go back, though; and it wasn’t like he really could, anyway. "Let the leeches drain her dry!" "Kill the insolent fool!" "Eat his eye!" "Rip of his ears!" "He'd make a lovely Wasp's nest!" "Kill him!" "Beat his friends with his body parts!" "Death to the infidel!" "Tie him down and make him eat his friends!" "Kill him!" "Take him to the dragon's den!" "He'd make a most divine fertilizer!" Nikkolai’s stomach churned and he looked back at Seth one last time. None of those options sounded like the kind of thing Seth would live through. He looked at the rat and bit his lip, feeling the most hatred toward anyone that he had felt in a while. It was a very unusual thing for him to feel, but he had threatened him and his friends and had now taken Seth without warrant. “Seth…!” he yelled again, but he decided he might as well just give up. He would wait in Norwood the next day to find him all day if he had to. “I’m sorry…” The words came out barely audible and he turned away, following Evals with his eye turned to the ground. |

Of course he picked up on the dark undertones to Vernon's words, but he had to ignore them. As long as Nikki and Evals survived... As long as Nikki and Evals survived, he wouldn't mind dying so much. He wouldn't let Vernon get the better of him, and he hoped that the others knew that too. Was Nikki crying, though? He thought he saw water in the corners of his eye, but perhaps it was just a trick of the light... Vernon's words made his flesh creep. He can do whatever he wants to me, but leave the butterfly out of it, he though, and as if sensing his will, the creature fluttered off after Nikki and Evals, setting lightly upon the blonde's shoulder. He knew the pet would be taken care of, especially if- Well, he didn't want to think about what would happen if he didn't leave the marsh. He listened quietly to the cacauphony of voices, and somehow, he couldn't stop himself from smiling. Death to the infidel? Kill him? Hell, he'd heard 'Kill him!' twice. It was almost funny; if not for the situation, it would have been. "What a Marsh you have," was all he could say before the whip crack cut off his train of thought. Still, he showed no fear; truth be told, he wasn't feeling much of it. "Seems that you care for it a great deal." |

He was still smiling? It seemed like it was going to be one rather fun day seeing how long that smile stood. "As any good master treats his subjects," Vernon said before letting his whip cut through the air once more, this time sending the sharp blades on it's end to partake of Seth's flesh. The whip would feed upon Seth's arcane power making it less likely for any surprises coming out of the aaisamar. "When I ask you a question, you answer. But I'll take your silence as indifference. Pity we can't appease all of them. I think we'll start with a visit to the remnants of the first to question my rule of this marsh," Vernon grinned while licking his lips. He figured he'd comprise between the pleas of his marsh and the promise he gave, shedding Seth's blood along the way. Still, Vernon pondered the benefits of upholding his promise. Would it mortify his released intruders more for them to receive their friend barely alive or to find that the Master of the marsh find promises as only useful toys to be broken as and when desired? Vernon snapped his finger and the crocodile approached. It stopped in front of Seth and faced the marsh's water. "Time for a swim. I suggest you hold on tight, She tends to eat things floating around in the water," Vernon snickered. Amusing how a trip to Munwithurix's old lair would strike two birds with one stone. Only problem was guessing how long the pansy could hold his breath. |

The whip found its mark on Seth's left forearm, tearing the flesh in a line down towards his hand. There was a sharp intake of breath from the Aasimar, teeth clenching at the sudden pain that shot up through his limb. It wasn't a deep wound, in fact, it barely hurt when he thought about it. In a moment it had even healed itself over, though the pain persisted. He wasn't being injured, he just felt... Drained; not of blood, but of power. A visit to the remnants of the first one to question his rule of the marsh? It didn't sound pleasant in the last, though once the pain from being drained of magic subsided, his smile returned. The crocodile before him did nothing to erase it from his face, he had always liked animals anyway. Still, he was confused as to what Vernon meant by 'hang on.' Did he mean by the creatures tail? "I could go for a swim," he said, somewhat enthusiastically. Granted, the water didn't exactly look clean, but it was better than dying. |

Vernon's whip swiftly reached out for Seth once more before he just as he finished his sentence. He'd made no move to follow instructions, but the real reason for the strike was the despicably cheerful tone used. Truth be told Vernon was happy to have any reason whip the aaismar who was apparently a mage of some sort. "If you swim on your on, I'm sure my promise will be broken," Vernon snickered. "That's why you're getting on her. I suggest laying on her and wrapping your arms around her belly. Anything else would likely get you killed. Now hurry up, I' m sure you don't want to be returned to your friends later than anticipated," Vernon said before snapping his whip once more. He pulled the whip's blades to his hand and tasted the crimson liquid that had collected upon them. "Did anyone ever tell you taste exquisite?" Vernon grinned licking his lips. He probably should have slaughtered the trio instead of letting two go and promising not to eat the remainder. He'd just have to make sure they spread word of the horror to be found in the marsh. |

This time, the whip struck him across the stomach, tearing fabric and flesh in one movement. A hand rushed to the wound instinctively, though it had already disappeared by the time it got there. What hadn't disappeared was the searing pain as more of his energy was drained away from him. The Celestial he was infused with had gone deathly quiet, and he had to wonder what she must have been thinking right now. He didn't wait for the pain to subside before walking and laying down on the crocodile, doing as Vernon said and wrapping his arms under its stomach. The creature stunk like the swamp, it was awful. Still, if it would get him back to his friends more quickly... He contemplated how he should answer Vernon's question. The truth would likely aggravate him, while lying would probably do the same. Deciding it didn't matter, he opted for the truth, saying, "Yes, I've gotten that comment before," with a nonchalant tone to his voice. |

Vernon took opportunity to let the whip bite into Seth's exposed back. Didn't sound like something one would normally be able to live to say, course Vernon didn't care if it was the truth or not. The crocodile gave Seth little time to say anything or try and feel at his wound as the creature charged into the water. Vernon took a moment to ensure that the marsh's parasitic pests had even more friends to join in the partaking of Seth's flesh. He gauged Seth's breath as he charged into the water himself for he didn't the Aaismar drowning before the began, but it would be fun to see him out of breath from the trip and would also give time for hitchhikers to join him. When touched the water's surface he was already in the form of an oversized Dire Crocodile. He signaled to the crocodile when it seemed waiting any longer would require being returned to him with the help of others. Vernon was the first to the emerge and returend to his normal form as he entered the larger lair carved out of a massive mound. He could understand why black dragon's favored such lairs. There was no escape for captured prey and those dumb enough to pursue would likely drown before ever reaching it. Naturally valuables had already been dealt with and were replaced by bones, decaying matter, and swarming rodents. A clearly Draconic set of bones stood out, though they in truth did did not belong Munwithurix who had ran away instead of died. Glowing mushrooms solved the issue no sunlight. Vernon liked his guests to see what going on around them. It made the experience more enjoyable before they made their exit which was often death. Vernon sat down table made of stone and decorated with bones of various races. There were a few chairs of matching design about. Vernon pondered what the next order of business would be as his victim for the day emerged pool of water at the entrance. "Quite the ride, wasn't it? Normally she charges an arm and a leg," Vernon snickered. |

He reflexively clenched his arms around the crocodile from the pain, hoping he wasn't hurting the scale-clad creature despite the horrendous pain coming from where the whip had struck him. He took as deep a breath as he could before the crocodile plunged into the marsh water, which, as a singer, was quite a large breath. The water was as cold as he'd expected; if his life hadn't depended on it, he would have likely gasped and broken the surface. To make matters worse, it seemed that the insects of the marsh were taking their sweet joy in biting him anywhere their small maws could reach. Because of the amount of holes in his raggedy clothing, that turned out to be quite a lot of places. The urge to breath was growing stronger, he probably didn't have much air left- And then they broke the surface again, and Seth took a gasping breath for air. His skin was covered in goosebumps, and he knew that his teeth were chattering, but he wouldn't let that get to him. He took a moment to examine the room, noting the skulls and other bones that lined the place. It was large, dank, dreary- Seemed like the perfect place for this Master of the Marsh. "Yes, quite the ride," he coughed, spitting out swamp water. Something wasn't right though... What was odd about the water... He leaned in closer, looking at the dark liquid, which barely caught the odd light cast by the mushrooms. If his skin could have become colder, it would have: There were small insects squirming within the marshwater that he'd coughed up. |

"Apparently, your new friends think likewise," Vernon said as he approached. He ripped the leech off of Seth's neck and promptly ate it whole. It was amusing that Seth would have more friends on his was out of the marsh than he did on his way in. Vernon turned and gestured to the large draconic bones. "Munwithurix, The former owner of this lair. I permitted her presence for a while. She overstayed her welcome when she thought she was powerful enough to usurp my rule of the marsh, claiming that I had no say in who did and did not have right to be in the marsh. Obviously she failed horribly despite being a powerful dragon and mage. As punishment I trapped her here and let her slowly rot away," Vernon grinned tying in Seth's own insolent words to the mix. A bit of a lie, but Seth had no way nor motive to disprove it. Vernon moved back to the table and sat down. "Surely you must be hungry, having been lost in the marsh for so long. Take a seat. Do you have any preferences on what to eat? Maybe a fancy troll or gnome?" Vernon snickered as he past the table to reach a large pile of dead bodies. Vernon pulled the hair of one such body and pinched cheek. "Ooooo! There's a fresh elf here, just died today. Yes, yes, you must have some of this," Vernon grinned swiftly ripped off the creatures arm with a sickening series of cracks, pops and snaps. "And perhaps a side of human," Vernon snickered before tearing off an ear from another body. |

Ripping off the leech didn't really bug him, the things were really very gentle. The blood loss was making him a bit woozy, true, but it was nothing he couldn't deal with. He had to wonder, though, why Vernon would eat a creature from his Marsh. Didn't he protect and care for them? It made no sense. He took in the sight of the draconic bones, listening to Vernon's story. It seemed familiar, probably one of the stories he'd heard in a tavern about the marsh. It also seemed that Vernon was trying to make himself appear more powerful than he was, though it probably wasn't a good idea to bring that thought into the open. He wasn't hungry, not for anything that Vernon offered. The idea of eating a once-living sentient creature in such a way, it was utterly repugnant. He sat at the table, staring at Vernon with cold eyes. There was no way the rat would make him eat another being, not if he could help it. "I'm sorry," he said, though without his usual grin, "But I'm a vegetarian." |

Oh, now this was simply too good. A vegetarian. That only made snack time all the more fun. "Let me guess. Is it because you loathe the idea of eating something that was once living, thinking and breathing? Ha! Did we not prove that even plants have thoughts of their own? Why do you purposefully put yourself on the bottom of the food chain? Things taste a lot better at the top. All beings live to consume, multiply and die. If you recall even the greedy little plants desired the fruits of your own death," Vernon grinned as he turned around, his free hand already upon his whip. The cold stare that Seth returned to Vernon both annoyed him and amused him, but more so the later. Sure it was insolence, but it was also proof that he had struck one of his moral fibers. Who would have known talking about found would have been all it took to wipe that ugly grin off of his face. "I don't care what you do with the rest of your life, but for the day you're a meat eater," Vernon snickered as he lashed his whip out at Seth. ".....Though, I suppooooooooooose if you are adamant about not eating the flesh of others I might be able to fix another dish...." Vernon said ponderously as if rethinking his plans. It was far from a sign of compassion, but rather a trap for an act far worse than cannibalism at least for Seth. Vernon would find it quite more amusing and likely still make him eat the rest of his food even it meant force feeding, which he was quite accustomed to doing with his guests. |

It didn't matter that Vernon's reasoning was off, there was no point in correcting him. It didn't matter that the reason Seth was a vegetarian was that he never developed a taste for meat, it didn't matter that he was too poor to afford it, it didn't matter that he couldn't cook meat to save his life. What mattered was survival. He remembered the plants and their bloodlust all too well, it rivaled even that of some humans he'd met, and their voices still rang in the back of his mind. Again the whip struck him, tearing a new gash across his chest. It couldn't have been far above where Ranewen had struck him with her scythe that night in Balefire, though it was nowhere near as painful or as threatening. The rat's talk of fixing another dish disturbed him, he was all too familiar with the voice of a schemer. He'd mentioned not eating the flesh of others, which only left two options... Either he'd be eating some sort of marsh plant, or- Oh God, he didn't want to think about the other option that drew up in the back of his mind, like some bleak serpent about to strike down on a small bird. He couldn't let the rat see how tense he was, so he did his best to keep calm as he said, "Another dish... If you would be kind enough to go to the trouble." |

If he would be kind enough? HA! The kindest thing Vernon could do for this diluted sap was free his soul of his mortal bonds, but Pestilence did not share Death's generosity. "It's no trouble at all," Vernon grinned. True for himself, but not as true for Seth. "Just sit tight and relax while I get it ready." As if on cue a number of overly large rodents streamed from his backpack with rope. Hastily, yet efficiently they coiled rope around Seth tightly enough keep his arms from interfering without being overly uncomfortable. Apparently they needed a bit more work at this act. Now all that remained was to decide what he could should remove. Bleeding to death limited his options. He could take a cut from anywhere or even feed him blood, but that was borish. It had to be something noticeable. Something Seth and all his freind's would gaze upon and think fond thoughts of the Master of the Marsh. A finger? No, he had ten of those. He could take ear, those didn't bleed much. But, no he already had an ear on Seth's menu afterward. The answer dawned on him as he recalled the half-fairy. He had a patch over his eye, didn't he? Not likely a fashion statement. It was over the Right eye, no definitely the left. They'd make quite the couple if Vernon did them a favor and removed the opposite eye. Not exactly fleshy, but it would do nicely. One hand grasped Seth's hair firmly to steady head, the other moved to Seth's right eye. Removing the eye would be a fairly delicate procedure. It was just a sac of tasty juices after all and it would be best only to puncture it in Seth's mouth. Vernon hoped for Seth's pleas and struggle when he noticed what would happen next, would encourage and pleasure him all the more. The claw-like nails of the two fingers following his thumb grew longer and narrower as he carefully slid them between socket and eye. With a swift motion he brought the two fingers together, severing all the connecting cords in between like a guillotine. Vernon grinned as the sphere gladly left it's former prison. Still something had done the bleeding. He set the eye down and swiftly fetched a roaming rat before stuffing the creature's bum in the socket. He wouldn't bleed to death, but the wound would most assuredly need a proper cleaning to prevent onset of likely countless deadly infections. Vernon would let Seth's friends figure out that on their own. Vernon picked up the eye by what little cord remained. "Cut him loose, His appetizer is ready," Vernon snickered as he the eye swung back and forth. Releasing him from the rope's hold was handled much quicker than binding him. What protest would arise now only to be disregarded? (Something told this should be two posts, but inspiration said to disregard. If anything be wrong poke me) |
