| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

The Aasimar had to ask himself how he could've gotten lost in such a place. It was a horrid way to end what had been an otherwise nice day of meeting new people and playing music. He'd planned on just crossing through the marsh quickly, despite his better judgement, but he must have made a wrong turn. He silently berated himself, and the Celestial in his head wasn't helping him make matters better. All I am saying is that you need to develop wings, child! Every good Celestial needs wings. He really did value her opinion, and did want wings desperately, but now was not the time for her nagging. Now what mattered was getting out of this marsh before it got too dark. He wasn't exactly equipped to handle threats, and his eyesight in the dark was lacking at best. Not to mention, he had others to care for as well... |

Nikkolai sighed, narrowing his eyes as he looked at Seth. “You don’t know where we’re going anymore, do you?” he asked, feeling just a tad hopeless. A hand lifted to run through his white-blonde hair and to fix the bandage over his missing eye. “Where were we going in the first place, anyway? And where did Evals go…?” There was just far too much to keep track of. Nikkolai looked around and saw Evals a few yards behind the two of them. He turned on his heel and went back to her, linking her arm through his. “Don’t fall behind like that. You’ll get eaten!” He returned to Seth’s side, looking up at him. “Maybe we should ask for directions? Although I don’t know who we’d ask… hmm…” Nikkolai chewed on his cheek and shifted his weight between his feet. “We’re screwed, aren’t we?” |

Evals followed the pair, not like she wanted to be here but it was insisted upon. She was never given much of a choice anymore, though it kept her from being a bored panda. She walked with her hands in her pockets a few yards back before Nikki said her name. She looked up as he came back to her, there arms were linked and she was pulled ahead. "Ah, hey!" she stated as they were then next to Seth. "What in the world here could posssibly eat me?" she said remembering the last time she was here, she saw a rat person in the house this Drow had invaded. He had a bunch of other rats with him, didn't look very friendly and like they would eat a corspe. She left a minute after the Drow did, she didn't want to be stuck around with him. Evals lifted Nikki off of the ground by his collar and tried held him up while she talked to him. "What, if we're sscrewed we could always jusst go in one direction until we get out of the woods. Now, don't think negative, we'll get out of here if we have to feed Seth to a wolf to do it, it iss his fault we are lost anywayss..." she said and let Nikki down while she was in the middle, she was joking about letting Seth be eaten by a wolf, she wouldn't do that. Well, unless he did something that made her lose trust in him. |

Yes, he definitely had the best travelling companions. "I won't lie, we are lost. When people say they aren't lost, it only gets worse for some reason," he stated calmly. He wasn't worried, despite the current situation. Like any good bard, he'd heard too many tales about the marsh and the horrors it was said to hold, and panicking wouldn't be any good to them now. He didn't even want to hear them talk like that. "Don't worry, friends! Nikki's far too sweet for any beast to handle, he'll give them a tummyache. And Evals, as long as we don't encounter any scavengers, you should be just fine!" His attempts at lightening the mood were feeble, at best, but at least he was trying. The darkness closing in threatened to choke them, they needed to keep strong. Feed me to a wolf? He really didn't want to hear that! "Ordinarily, I'd agree about the directions, but... Aside from each other, I thi- Hope that we're alone." He cursed his own words, positive that he'd just jinxed the three lost travellers. |

Beady eyes watched as another bunch of flies wiggled upon Vernon's web. Vernon had personally redone the signs so that they lead the poor adventurers wandering in circles spiraling deeper and deeper into the marsh. Rats and squirrel like creatures followed the group and watched from the trees. More and more gathered like vultures summoned by one nearing his last breath. Vernon of course had been alert of this new uninvited guests. It was hard to get a good hold on any of their scents, after all that had such a sweet smelling rotting corpse with them. It familiar scent. In fact it was that zombie that ran away. Vernon opted to clear bodies out of the house before they melt with it instead of chasing either the zombie or the dumb dark elf. Vernon monitored their path from afar and brought himself to a fork in the road they would approach. He masked he scent, waiting till his prey too close to turn away. He heard them babbling amongst each other. He was most amused when zombie asked what would eat her. Most creatures of the forest would likely do so given the chance. Her companions may have been the only things saving her from being swarmed by flesh-eating rodents, the very ones that followed them and watched their every move. Vernon's vile scent became more notably apparent when the three approached. Vernon was lazily lying upon a tree limb and his dark fur blended in nicely with the darkness of the night. "That a good theory to test," Vernon snickered as he snapped his fingers. A low growling was heard even before an over-sized foaming at the mouth wolf materialized out of a green cloud behind them. "He's quite hungry." "Tell me why you disturb my marsh. I can only assume it's to feed my hungry pets," Vernon grinned as the paths of the fork in the road were blocked by a dire crocodile that crawled out of the marsh and rat nearly the same size as the wolf. The large squirrel like musfa and oversized rats chittered menacingly around them. |

Nikkolai’s eyes widened. “We can’t feed Seth to a wolf!” he exclaimed, horrified at the idea of losing one of his dearest friends. “Um, maybe we should stop thinking about what could eat us. It’s not like there are any lions or tigers or bears… oh, my, what’s that smell?” He lifted a hand to his face, covering his mouth and nose and fighting the urge to gag. Nausea rose up in his stomach and he looked at Seth and Evals, hoping he wasn’t the only one who smelled that vile stench. He almost felt dizzy from it; the marsh hadn’t smelled this bad a minute ago, so what had happened now to make this change? He whimpered and wrapped his arms around his abdomen, biting his lip and slowing his pace. There was something terribly, horribly wrong here but he didn’t exactly know what. At least… he didn’t exactly know what until he heard the rat talking. Nikkolai stared wide-eyed at the creature, feeling his eyes water just from how bad that smell was. He wiped at them and cleared his throat, still trying to stop himself from retching. “I- oh, gawd,” he said, noticing the wolf. “Um, Mr. Rat, Mr. Rat Sir… um… I don’t think any of us would make very good treats,” he said quietly. “I mean, Evals, Evals is kinda dead and Seth? Seth’s all bones! And me… well I’m made of sugar. Uhhh… eh heh…” He gulped when he mentioned hungry pets. “It was an accident! We swear! We really, really didn’t mean to disturb your marsh! Don’t kill us!” Talk about sacrificing dignity. |

Evals shook her head, she was kidding. Nikki didn't seem to get it when she was joking about things, sighing slightly she looked ahead towards Seth. "Scavangers, what I fear finding around here." she said thinking about the Rat that was around, sadly if he showed up they would have to leave. "Next time... I pick the location if we ever go somewhere. Got that Seth?" she said thumbing at her own chest as she noticed Nikki started to gag on something. She looked at him, something smelled bad then. Was it her? She did smell of rot, but he had never complained before about it. A Wolf and croc appeared ahead of them. Of course, the one person she didn't want to run into. The Rat was here, and Nikki was trying to talk his way out of this. Looking at Seth she shook her head again. "Like I said, I pick next time." With that she looked up at the Rat. What was his name again? She could have sworn she was told before, or maybe she just thought she heard his name in his short speech. "Hey hey, we didn't do anything but get lost. If you want us out that can be arranged in a non-violent way." She was only trying to bargin because she couldn't be fighting along side ether of these two, Seth didn't fight and Nikki was.... Nikki, and she didn't trust the spells that the rat had at his use. Otherwise she would have smashed the wolf by now, she still could but to see if they could get out of here first. |

Yes, he had definitely jinxed the group. The wolf, croc, rat, the crowd of musfas; they all served as testament to it. What he hadn't been expecting was for one of the rats to speak. The vile stench swam through his head, it made his golden eyes water. From his pocket, a small green object crawled, spreading wings and floating beside them. It was a green moth, a gift he'd received a while back. He had to clear his throat, the stench was too vile not to. "Yes, Evals, you will most definitely pick our location next time," he said quietly to her. Now wasn't the time to worry about their next excursion, now was the time to worry about getting out of here. Nikki was obviously getting sick from the stench; Evals and himself, despite being strong, were obviously outnumbered. He looked at Nikki, placing a hand on his shoulder, trying to calm him down. "Panic never does any good," and then, addressing Vernon, "We would leave without incident if you only would point the way." He knew the chances of getting away without a fight were slim, let along existent. Still, it couldn't hurt to try. |

"You fail to see what a tasty trio you three make. A three course meal. A human girl seasoned with decay with a side of a succulent human aasimar blessed with the savory nuance of infusement and a sweet little fairy for dessert. Oh, just describing such a delicious meal makes me drool," Vernon snickered. "Leaving without indecent is no longer a possibility. Evals, you of all people should know this. I am Vernon, Master of this marsh. You had been warned, yet you still returned and even had the audacity to bring company, or let them bring you, not that it matters. One does not have safe passage through the marsh without bearing proper gift's to it's master," Vernon explained as licked his lips. Whether or not she remembered he was sure it was her. His nose was never wrong on a scent. "Since I am in such a kind mood. You may go free, provided one of you stays with me as a such a proper gift," Vernon snickered as he pondered how this strange group would reach it's conclusion. The cowardly fairy certainly didn't seem one to offer himself, though it was possible he might do it for the sake of his friends. He very much doubted the zombie would be dumb enough to offer herself up, though she would make the tastiest treat of all. Fortunately for her she didn't have much of a need for all of her flesh. The aasimar would be most likely to perform the despicable act of kindness. Still, Vernon was hoping to see them bicker over who should be the left behind. Given that two of the three seemed quite like goody two-shoes, it was more likely they would bicker on about why they should be left behind. None of them looked like they could put a good fight or even last in one. Even zombies had their fragility. |

The hand that laid to rest on his shoulder did nothing to assuage him. Nikkolai looked to Seth out of the corner of his eye. “Panic? Who said I was panicking?” he whimpered, forcing a smile that faltered moments later. Yes, he was panicking – but that didn’t mean he had to make them panic too! It was best that he keep his mouth shut, though. Seth and Evals would be able to handle this without mucking up, unlike him. He averted his gaze and merely listened to their conversation, a shiver running up his spine when Vernon mentioned how delicious they all looked. Slowly his attention refocused and he blinked, staring at the rat with only one eye. “But – but, I’m a defective fairy!” he pointed out. “See? I’m missing an eye! And… and…” Oh, goodness, how else was he defective?! “And I’m missing my wings! And Evals… Evals is too ugly–” He really hadn’t meant that – “and Seth is too perfect! Really, we are not the kind of well balanced meal you’re looking for. Hardly nutritious.” Nikkolai gulped. He doubted this rat would listen to him, but it was worth the try. He wasn’t going to let either him or his friends die here. “And what sort of gifts do you want?” Nikkolai said, his eye narrowing somewhat. While he was still terrified, what gave this silly little rat the right to rule this marsh and eat whoever came in? His fists clenched at his sides and he looked to Seth for assurance and confidence before his sight returned to Vernon. "Since I am in such a kind mood. You may go free, provided one of you stays with me as a such a proper gift." Fear ran through him all over again. One of them had to stay to save the other two…? No, no! He wouldn’t have it! Breath came out in a heavy, rough rush through his nostrils and he took one daring step closer. “I’m sorry, Mr. Rat Sir, but I’m not willing to grant that request,” he said quietly, his voice trembling. “I would be willing to get you any sort of gift, but it won’t be one of my friends to eat. That’s the only thing I cannot allow… so why can’t we just be friends, you let us go, we can have some tea and laugh about this a few years from now…?” Nikkolai chuckled nervously and retreated, grabbing onto Eval’s arm tightly. His flesh had gone cold. |

Evals gave Vernon a death glare as he went on again. Yes, she knew. No, she didn't recall it much to know that they had gone into the marsh. Well, she could have at least warned them that if they came near the marsh this would happen. Too late now, the Master of the Marsh was here and charging them. "I don't really give a crap!" she shouted at him pointing with her Death glare. He would regret for messing with her, maybe today, maybe another time. Vernon offered a way out of here at the cost of leaving one of them behind. She sure as Hell didn't want to get stuck with the Rat by herself. She thought about it a little more. Nikki had started to protest again. Her eye twitched at what he said about her, that little... Ah, he was trying to save her with that, still. "You're luckily that was in good will." Her voice in a whisper and annoyment at Nikki while he clinged to her arm. Well, best he could do. She couldn't smell the Rat, she couldn't really die again. The only way those rats would get rid of her if that they got rid of her bones as well. Though she perfered keeping her flesh, it kept her from scaring people that she ran into. Nikki didn't deserve this, Seth, she couldn't really be sure, he probably didn't ether. The Undead made up her mind on this, normally she didn't give herself up for other people, but this was most logical. "Heh, ether you two stay and help or get the Hell out of here. I'm ssstaying." she said prying Nikki off of her arm and putting her Demon Claws on her hands. She wanted to cut this rat open, and all of his pets too. Surely, Amas would want some dinner of his own, but he would wait in the far off canopy for now, he always kept his distance. He was also with the Musfa that wouldn't leave her alone. Evals' face grew a smirk, she was different from Nikki and Seth. One, she didn't care much about people's lives, beside a few. Two, she was dead. Three, she was going to give this Rat any mercy if she got a chance to. "Certainty of Death, small chance of success. What am I waiting for?" |

He could almost feel the tension rising, making his skin prickle. Eval's comments weren't helping, though it was definitely comforting to know she was ready to stand and fight. Nikki was the one he was worried about; despite his age, he acted like a child most of the time. Vernon's talk of them as meals disgusted him, though he kept quiet for the moment. In any other circumstance he would have laughed and been flattered at Nikki's comments, but now was hardly the time. He knew that Nikki was only trying to help them, but couldn't help but think that Vernon gave little care for their physical appearances. The 'Master of the Marsh' was, after all, a giant rat. A gift? There was no way he'd let them stay as 'gifts.' They were human beings- well, Evals was undead, but that didn't matter- not objects. "There's no chance I'll take that offer. We all have rights to be here, what gives you a say as to otherwise?" It was comforting to know that Evals and Nikki would stand by his side for this battle, especially after having seeing Evals rip zombies apart with her bare hands in Kellen. The small green moth he had flitted to his shoulder, alighting and laying down its wings. Likely, they'd need to use some of its healing magic. "Last chance to let us go before we have to make use of force," said Seth, sincerely hoping that they could still leave without trouble. |

Vernon grinned as he watched and listened to their responses. It was almost cute how the fairy lacked a backbone yet he fought for his friends with his mouth that certainly seemed bigger than it needed to be. The zombie and celestial prepared for a fight, not the wisest of options. Even less wise if they decided to continue upon their present course of action. "Despite the your logic, little fairy, you're are all still quite the appetizing dish together. Now if it makes you feel any better who ever remains with me shall live to tell the tale and I'll even be kind enough to see that the other two are escorted out of the marsh unharmed. I can only keep this promise so long as no one decided to get unruly," Vernon snickered calmly. If he changed his mind he could easily snare the remaining two before they left as well eat the unfortunate soul to be left with him, though for now he saw little issue with keeping his promise after all he intended to have fun time with who ever was left over, though likewise was sure not to be true. "I suggest you put away your weapons Evals and stop your useless hostility, otherwise you may find your friends choking on your words. If you do so decide to use force, your loss would surely mean I make a meal of you all and scatter your bones across the marsh. I think that would make your undead friend a lonesome skull wandering around for bones lost to the marsh's grip." "I think that would be a fitting punishment for your crimes against me and my marsh. Honestly what makes you think you do indeed have rights to be here? Such logic would get you killed quickly when used after wandering into a dragon's lair. Do you normally waltz into the homes of others and claim you have right to be there?" Vernon laughed. If they had a moral fiber, why not feed off of it. The Marsh was his after all. It was their last chance to shapen up, though they you provide good entertainment whether they died and made a fine cuisine or if they accepted his terms. He expected though that they still might try and ask for more reasonable terms. |

“Sorry…” he whispered, his eye locked on Vernon. He would have shot an apologetic glance her way if he could have, but at the moment it simply wasn’t possible. He hoped she would forgive him – really he hadn’t meant it at all and he hoped she wouldn’t be angry with him "Heh, ether you two stay and help or get the Hell out of here. I'm ssstaying." Was she insane? Had her brain rotted to the point where she couldn’t think? They couldn’t stay here – they would get hurt, eaten alive! He shrunk back a little bit when she pried him off of her and merely looked at her. Really she was brave… a lot braver than he was, and Seth was the same way. Nikkolai bit his lip; he had tried, but it seemed that it wasn’t going to work. Seth mentioned force and his nerve was beginning to deteriorate – he had used every last bit of it before and well now… he was probably going to be useless now. “…who ever remains with me shall live to tell the tale and I'll even be kind enough to see that the other two are escorted out of the marsh unharmed…” Nikkolai’s eyes widened – would he really be so kind and generous? Although it wasn’t the best deal, at least they would all be alive. He looked at his two friends, debating what to do. “Would you really do that?” he asked, not seeing why the rat would lie unfortunately. “Would you let whoever stays with you go?” Again he bit his lip – if things worked out then why not capitulate, if only for a short while…? “We’re very sorry we intruded on your marsh,” Nikkolai said quickly. “I didn’t know you lived here – honest! Otherwise I wouldn’t have come here and I’m sure my friends wouldn’t have either. We respect that this is your home and we’ll be gone, if you just let us go.” He nodded and lifted his hands to show that he had fully surrendered. He took a step closer to Evals and gestured for her to come down to his height. Once she did that, Nikkolai whispered a few barely audible words into her ear: “I’ll go and come back with help if I must.” |

Could he trust this creature? The same thought kept pounding in Seth's head. If they fought, they were outnumbered, and likely outskilled. He'd seen Evals fight before, but that had been against mindless monsters, not controlled servants. And Nikki... He couldn't see Nikki defeating a fly, let alone a wolf. Again that question of whether he could trust Vernon or not... He'd have to. What else could be done? Evals couldn't handle this situation alone, and Nikki- poor, innocent Nikki- was clearly on the verge of a breakdown. He decided with conviction that he would be the one to remain; if he had to suffer so that they might live, so be it. Besides, he could heal himself, something that Evals couldn't do on her own and Nikki was only lightly skilled with. "Evals," he began quietly. "I want you to take Nikki and leave. Go away from the marsh, and don't turn back." He couldn't let them suffer because of his foolish mistakes, it was his own fault that they were in this situation. Even if Vernon was lying, another scar was a small price to pay for their survival. He glanced at both of them, trying to give a reassuring smile. He knew Evals probably didn't care about him, but she wouldn't let any harm come to Nikki; of that he was certain. "Everything's going to be fine," he said, sounding as calm and collected as he could. |
