Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Aurea danced away from the wolf's seeking nose, suppressing a giggle when she felt it brush across her stomach instead of hitting the pixie. That, along with the wink he sent her before following Lehona, completely convinced her that this wolf was Auron. Hearing a soft thump, she glanced over to see Kit fall into a large pile of snow, a grin split across Aurea's face. "Serves you right," she told the fox only to get a nip at her ankle before her ran off. She grumbled, though it was apparent by the look on her face that she was starting to like the fox immensely.

She turned her attention back to Lehona in time to hear her asking about dinner, though she missed the comment about Auron being a handsome wolf. "Food, especially hot food would be wonderful. And since you've helped me find the tavern, I'd be happy to share the meal with you."

Aurea shifted, moving faster so that when they finally came up to said tavern, she was in front. She opened the door with her left hand, still carefully holding the pixie against her. She held open the door long enough for the others to follow her inside before moving forward to claim the empty table right beside the fire. She slumped into a chair, letting out a content sigh as she did.

"This is a thousand times better than being outside right now," she told the others with a little grin. After another few minutes of sitting in the warmth, she brought the pixie back out from her cloak, setting him carefully down onto the table. "I wonder how long it'll take him to wake back up," she asked, glancing at the others.

With the newfound warmth Delki started to stir slightly after a while. At first it was just slight twitching from his wings, and then he started to shift his position slowly. He sat up slowly and opened his eyes at an equal rate. It took him a few moments to register the faces that watched him and he started to react out of fright. Thoughts were racing through his mind, most were like: “Did they catch me? Am I free? Where am I? Who are they?” Delki flew upwards a good deal, so he wasn’t bound or it was an extremely long cord. The sudden actions though tired him in his weakened state and he settled back down on the table quickly. The pixie looked around him at where he was. It looked like the inside of a tavern, and the woman in front of him must have been the one that grabbed him. So she had helped him? It came as kind of a shock to Delki to have been helped again by a human of all things. He walked slowly over to her and looked right up to her face. Delki smiled slightly, his most efficient way to say thanks in the situation. The pixie was too tired to fly up to her ear and the tavern was too loud for him to be heard even if he shouted. He settled down again by her and watched the other people around the tavern cautiously.

Liam had heard the newcomers enter the tavern, but they almost escaped his attention, for the half-dragon was trying to find the most comfortable way to drink from a mug and not look like a fool. Even so, he glanced back, noticing that the human woman was holding something against her body. Curiosity set in, and he set the mug down, trying to look casual as he eyed them heading for the table nearest the fire. Not for the first time, Liam was glad he was wearing his hooded cloak. People were much less likely to keep staring at him when he wore something that concealed him from glancing eyes than when he didn't. He'd stick out like a sore thumb, with his blue-gray colored scales and all.

Liam shifted in his seat, trying to get a better look at the newcomers. The human woman had set whatever she had been concealing on the table, and Liam found himself looking at something he would describe as an impossibly small human that had wings wake up and attempt to fly off the table, and failing that, settle back down. He suddenly longed for the taste of fresh meat, and how that little winged human would crunch between his jaws.Leaving his cup experiment, Liam walked over to the table of newcomers, taking a seat opposite the human.

" You don't mind if I sit here, do you? I enjoy the warmth of the fire." he said, glancing at the fireplace. His brown-eyed gaze once again fell on the pixie, and again he imagined feeling the crunch of small bones breaking against his teeth. He blinked, attempting to force the thought from his mind, and did his best to appear interested, in a normal way, that is.

Auron padded into the inn, sitting in front of the fire until everyone caught up. A dogged grin set on his face, watching the pixie come back to consciousness. Walking over to an empty chair between Aurea and lehona, auron bent down and came back up, setting him on his back legs. The wolf's form shifted as a seam appeared in the fur, the pelt pulling back , turning into the piwafwi leg-cloak once more.

Sitting in the chair easily, Auron leaned back and cupped his chin with his hand, smiling at lehona. “Do you really think i'm handsome? I thought I was a little scruffy, needed a good combing. But I don't mind.” He winked an amber eye and looked at Aurea. “Why hello dear! Fancy meeting you here. Natural sense, I guess.” He said in an attempted sly voice. His smile faltered. “Kit found you for me.” He looked down in mock shame.

The pixie gave him a good laugh however. A gleam in his eye betrayed his intent as he raised a hand, vertical with the ground. Extending his fingers, the bracer burst into flames, crawling up his hand. He couldn't feel it, but he assumed everyone else could. “Cold, friend?” He asked with a wink.

Extinguishing the magical flame as the cloaked figure approached, pulling up a seat, Auron shot him a mistrustful look. Auron glanced at aurea with a skeptic look.

"You're a man?" It was a stupid question and she realized it only seconds after the words had escaped her lips. Of course he was a man, he was sitting before her just as Aurea was now. But still, he was a wolf! The flush of color that invaded her cheeks could not be hid and averting her eyes with embarrassment at what she had said, at what she had thought! This was a magic she had never before witnessed and before they parted for the evening she knew that her curiosity would take away with her and she would ask for answers if they did not impose.

Before her rhetorical question could be answered, another man had joined them. As she attempted to distract herself with the pixie and his stirring, her emerald eyes kept chasing back to him. She wasn't quite sure what it was about the way he looked upon the pixie, but she didn't trust it. Still, there was no refusing a man that had already sat down and so she did what any well-mannered person would do; she introduced herself.

"Lehona Palewind, pleasure t-" , but before she could finish there seemed to be an explosion of warmth from the wolf, er man, and then Melony, the tavern wench, had come over with her bright smile and exotic carrot-colored hair which curled around her face in all different directions.

"Will you folks be staying for a while? I'm sure we can offer you a large sitting if we just squeeze a few tables together." Her voice was so cheerful, it would have taken an evil not to smile. She stood there with her hands resting pleasantly on her round hips and took the group in before Lehona answered with a matching smile.

"Ah yes Mel, I think there are six of us now." Quickly her eyes danced over their crowd as she mentally counted heads. "After we warm up near the fire for a bit, we would like to enjoy a hot meal and perhaps some spirits this evening please. Will you be joining us Mr.?" Her voice rose into a question and her eyebrows raised as her eyes drifted from Melony to the man who had joined them near the fire. Recrossing her legs as to allow the fire to warm the other side, Lehona waited for an introduction.

" I don't have anything better to do, I guess." Liam answered. He could clearly see that Lehona was a half-elf, and suddenly found it ironic that there happened to be two hybrids sitting at the same table. He felt somewhat envious; half-elves weren't looked upon as freaks of nature as half-dragons were. Plus, all she had to do was conceal her pointed ears, and nobody would be the wiser. Liam, on the other hand, was forcing himself to wear the floor-length cloak, keep his wings folded against his back to the point they felt cramped and make sure that his tail wasn't showing from underneath the cloak, all of that plus he sat with his back to the fire so he could keep his scaly dragon head hidden in the shadow of his hood. All of that just so he wouldn't have to deal with people staring at him, in the least. It was enough to drive the adolescent hybrid mad with frustration, depending on how people reacted.

" I'm Liam Extraxi. We aren't that much different, in a way..." he trailed off in his hint of their similarity of being hybrids, suddenly feeling hungry.

" And Mel, could you get us some extra meat as well? I feel like I could eat a whole cow right about now."

Aurea only spared Auron a glance, rolling her eyes at him. She flicked her attention back to the pixie and watched as he slowly began to return to the world of the living. First it was only a few twitches but then he was up and flying. She watched him come back to the table, obviously exhausted but then he smiled at her and she couldn't help but grin back. "I didn't mean to grab you earlier," she told him, "you just startled me a bit. Are you starting to feel better now? Warmer?" She added, glancing over at Auron's flaming hand.

She looked up, her blue-gray eyes narrowing as a tall cloaked figure approached their table. She shifted her gaze to Auron for a moment, catching his own look to her before she moved her attention back to the man. There was something about him that bothered her, something that made him seem less than human. But by the time she had made up her mind, Lehona had already welcomed him into their party and so she kept her objections to herself. After all, she did have the tendency to mistrust others so maybe it was better to let the half-elf decide. And if something did go wrong, well she and Auron could easily take care of it.

Aurea finally nodded politely to the new comer, though she still eyed him every now and then. A moment past and then she turned to Auron, raising her eyebrow at him as she always seemed to be doing. "So you finally decided to leave the desert? What brings you to Kellen?"

Delki stared at the newcomer suspiciously. Something about the way he felt the man’s gaze on him caused the pixie to feel uneasy. It wasn’t a surprise though, he always felt suspicious when he was the focus of larger beings he didn’t trust. Yet his stare felt a little different, kind of when he was attacked by that snake not long ago. That was a frightful encounter indeed. A snake’s ability to snap out in the blink of an eye made dodging extremely difficult. He had come out on top in the end though and fashioned a sheath for his sword out of one of its long fangs.

The kind woman acknowledged him and Delki turned to look up at her again out of politeness. Yet he was distracted before being able to give her his full attention by a sudden new source of heat. The pixie turned around and curiously watched the blaze coming from the man’s hand. Delki hadn’t been paying attention when he had changed from a wolf to a man so he simply deemed him another newcomer. The warmth from the fire was nice though and Delki basked in it for a moment before turning back to Aurea. Although he was feeling better, Delki was still too tired to fly all the way up to her shoulder so he nodded again. The man’s stare returned shortly though and he felt goose bumps form on his neck.

Auron glanced at Liam, frowning as he moved a bit closer to Aurea. This man made the hairs on the back of his neck stand, his manner, ordering the meat, looking at delki. If he made a move, auron was ready to light him like a torch.

“well. You really, I have nowhere else to go. I don't have any work at the moment, due to recent... mishaps--” Auron winked at her, talking about his failure to carry out her contract, resulting a broken nose and dinner. “--and decided why not? I've never been anywhere outside of istan.” He looked at his clothes, frowning. “I do however look rather out of place here.”

Shrugging, he looked at Liam. “What's your story? Where are ye from?” He asked with a curious smile.

( Lehona wants to pick up after me here, so if nobody minds waiting for her, she'd be appreciated.)

" I came here from some distance up north. Ran away is more like it, actually. Nobody there liked me much, giving me all the suspicious looks you people are giving me right now..." he paused, changing his mind about making the pixie his snack. No wonder people kept giving him weird looks more than they would normally do at home. Eating his neighbor's dog and all. It would be a really good idea to get on the good side of people now that his slate was clean.

" Anyway, I ran away from that place. Chances are my father burned the town to the ground and went out looking for me. He's a very, very angry man. He's out to kill me, and-" He heard a familiar voice at the other end of the room, one that made a knot form in Liam's stomach.

" Do you happen to know where my son is, my dear sir? I heard that he comes here on some occasion, and I miss him greatly." That deep, raspy-edged voice almost froze Liam in his seat.

" No, but there's a lad here who wears a cloak and even hides his hands from view, let alone his face. That, and there's been talk of a half-dragon in these parts. Not that it's yer son, though." And then he saw his father, stalking over to his table . He stopped, the man's gaze swept over the table, and fell upon Liam.

" Will any of you people be so kind as to tell me if you know where I might find my son, Liam?" he asked. Again his gaze swept over the table, and Liam saw that his father wasn't just playing a game with them to torture him in an agony of fear. It all mattered now whoever pointed to him and said that it was him.

( At this point, I'm leaving my character's fate in your hands. I won't dislike anybody for revealing Liam to his father, otherwise I wouldn't let anybody make that decision. If you do happen to point out Liam, he will die right then and there and I'll just make another character. Don't just say no or anything, but try to see the situation through your character's eyes. After all, your characters are all mistrustful of Liam, and probably wouldn't take what he said about his father really seriously. I know I wouldn't, if I was sitting with an odd cloaked stranger.)

Lehona's cheeks burned again as she blushed and tried to avert her eyes from Liam but found that she couldn't. His straightforwardness had softened her suspicions and so she shared with him his story. Gasping then looking offended as if a really stinky toe had been wiggled in front of her nose when Liam revealed that his own father was out ot kill him. Violence was never something that Lehona found she could tolerate and so she sided with him there in that moment. Offering him an apologetic smile, she opened her mouth but was cut off by yet another man who had approached the table claiming to be Liam's concerned father.

"My, my. That is a unique name, isn't it Aurea?" She said, offering a smile bright enough to rival Melony's own. Lehona took to twisting the wispy ends of her hair with habit, avoidance had never been her strong suit but still she attempted. Under the table, she inexpertly nudged the leg of who she thought to be Aurea. Some humans were known for their ease in deceit, would Aurea be that kind of human she thought? Either way, Lehona was surely not to judge her as they all had their own unique skills, did they not?

It was then that she remembered the way Liam had eyed the small pixie sitting upon the table. Her thin eyebrows raised a little as she worried and kept her eyes upon Aurea waiting for her reply. Though she had not at first trusted Liam, she found him somewhat hapless in his current predicament. Not everyone would share her views of course, the only thing left now was to hold her breath and wait. So, while twisting wisps of her hair, she did.

Lehona had accepted the newcomer, that much was obvious and, for whatever reason, Aurea respected Lehona's decision. She wasn't sure why, but she trusted Lehona and, therefore, would trust her decision to let the cloaked man stay. That didn't mean she had to trust the man though and so when the pixie looked up at her again, she laid a hand on the table beside him, obviously intending to move him up to her shoulder.

At Auron's reply, she couldn't help but laugh. "You followed me here?" She asked, a small grin growing on her face. "I do believe that makes you a stalker then," she teased. "Though you're right, you do stick out like a sore thumb here..." She trailed off, her attention shifting to the newcomer when he started talking. She studied the figure curiously, though there was little you could actually see. By the time his story was finished, she still didn't trust him, but she at least held some little bit of respect for him. He was obviously going to be a little messed up in the head if his father was out to kill him... And speak of the devil.

Aurea tensed, one hand drifting down to the hilt of her short sword as a man stalked over to their table and proceeded to inquire about his son. Lehona beat her to answering and, though she didn't feel the kick from Lehona, Aurea realized what she was aiming at.

"It is rather different. I don't think I've met anyone going by that name before," she told the man, lying easily though there was nothing to give away that she was lying. "I know Taras was destroyed some time ago, but many people still flock there. Maybe your son is there?"

Auron laughed at Aurea, paying attention to the man's story. He had done something to have his father come after him, hadn't he? In auron's mind, he should have given Liam up, told the man that his son was sitting next to him.

Aurea and lehona spoke, claiming to have never heard of him. Auron winced as he felt someone nudge his leg. Lehona, maybe? Auron couldn't lie. So he didn't. “I've never seen a Liam, i'm sorry.” He said in truth, not holding any of the signs of lying. He had, in truth, never seen Liam. Only his form beneath a cloak. If he had asked if he had seen his son Liam underneath a cloak, then auron would have pointed him out.

Only Aurea knew his nature, unable to tell a lie. “Perhaps you should look in Istan. Most people of any trade go through there at some point.” He shrugged.

Delki sat down on the woman’s hand and he allowed himself to be carried to her shoulder. He settled down and shifted over so he was near her ear. From his new position he could actually have a say and use her to announce his comments for the most part. The pixie leaned over slightly and spoke simply: “I don’t like the way he looks at me.” Delki pointed towards the cloaked man sitting at the table. “Like a snake.” He reached pack and patted the sheath for reassurance. It was a reminder that even something as quick and dangerous as a snake could fall victim to him. Delki wore the sheath proudly since it doubled as a trophy.

The pixie mused over the possibility that the other man wanted to do something to him that was on line with the late snake’s. That was either generally hurting him, killing him, or worse: eating him. Delki shuddered and sought refuge by Aurea’s neck. He listened in on the others as they said they had no idea of this son they were looking for. Delki glanced between the cloaked man and the father. He sighed, shaking his head, and rested his chin on a fist.

Liam's relief was almost visible when the others lied to the man who dared to call himself a father. He was harsh, agressive, possibly insane. It was a mystery to many, the cause of what had turned a good-natured man into something of a monster. Liam remembered the day his father had come home, staring at him with that strange look in his eyes. The eyes staring at him now still had that same look.

" You, in the cloak. You seem like the knowing kind. Have you seen my-" Liam's father spoke, and was interrupted by the same man who had mentioned him as the stranger concealing himself in a cloak. This time, the man looked somewhat confused.

" You said yer son's name was Liam, right? I mean, this town's small, and I've heard about everyone who comes and goes through here. There's been only one Liam in this town. I think it was that half-dragon feller or somethin'. Ye might as well look somewhere else, because you..." the man had likely stared into those eyes as well, for he started looking uneasy as he trailed off.

" Then I will continue my search elsewhere. I doubt that my son would've stayed here long anyway. Now, if you will excuse me, sir, I leave for Taras. I have some business to settle there. And if my search fails there, I will start in the Istan Desert. And if I fail there, I will search the mountains and the underground caverns..." On and on he rambled, getting louder with each statement of failing and searching somewhere. People started to stare at him, as he slowly made his way towards the door.

" And if my search proves futile there, I will travel the frozen north! And if that is the wrong place, I will search all over the whole entire world! And if I fail at that..." he paused, opening the door and turning back to look at all the people in the tavern who were staring at the madman and thinking along those same lines. " ...I will kill every living being in this world! And starting with all of you!" he shouted, slamming the door, leaving the tavern silent. Everybody just stared. " What did you do to set that looney off, Owen?" someone asked, to the man who probably started that whole crazed rant. All he did was shrug, and then in the blink of an eye, nearly everyone was back to their drinks, or doing whatever.

Liam just sat in silence, waiting for someone at the table to say something, whether it be a comment on the obvious insanity of his father, a question to whether he really was a half-dragon, or a demand to show his face. He just couldn't bring himself to be the first to speak.
