Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

It was a nice day, all things considered. The weather was cold, but not neccesarily unbearable. The lake was partially frozen, crystal waters dyed opaque and turned to glass. On the bank sat Seth, cheerful as ever, admiring the scenery. He really did love winter, everything became so very beautiful. He sat on top of a blanket, which he'd laid down after clearing the ground of snow with his foot, waiting for whoever might chance to come by.

Deciding to entertain himself a bit, he reached into the case at his left, taking up his violin and bow. He sat there by the lakeshore, head nestled against the instrument, and began to play. The notes drifter across the water and through the woods behind him, as his voice sang out, "Ave Maria, Jungfrau mild..." He continued the song in his foreign tongue, a beautiful melody for a beautiful scene.

Krishna glode silently through Norwood, twirling his flute in his hands and staring at it, deep in concentration. A thin smile was covering his face, and he almost jumped when his stomach growled. He drew his longsword slowly, looking around himself carefully. His eyes landed on a nearby deer, which he swung at slowly, his voice soft. "May I be forgiven for my trespasses." His blade struck deep in the ground, the deer already bounding away, and he shook his head, though still smiling amusedly. "I suppose this merely isn't my day." After a moment, he cocked his head, and grabbed his flute, bringing it to his lips as he heard a man singing.

Within minutes, Krishna had arrived at the lake, his flute in hand. He looked down at it, and spoke to it softly, as if it were an old friend. "Come, brother. Let us show the child beauty and endlessness." He brought the flute to his lips slowly, and blew through it. The tune carried easily to Seth, a crisp and soft tone, one that went straight for the heart. Krishna himself walked forward, smiling warmly. "Erhöre einer, Jungfrau Flehen." He continued to blow the flute, until he was next to Seth, and he sat down next to him, smiling warmly. "Good morning, child."

A delightful little sound reached Nikkolai’s ears as he trudged through Norwood, a furfur balanced precariously on his shoulder. It had refused to go into his coat pocket and Nikki hadn’t thought it would be wise to argue with the thing – after all, it did get grouchy sometimes and certainly liked to bite. He still had the marks from the first time it had bitten him on his index finger and he honestly didn’t want to relive that.

He enjoyed the sound, but in all honesty he was going to try and ignore it. It wasn’t his place to go barge in on someone who was playing music, as pretty as it might have been. He leaned over a little bit while he walked and the furfur, noticing that it was closer to the ground, jumped from its perch and began to skip away from its owner.

“Hey!” Nikki called in defeat, sighing. He ran after his poor furfur and noticed that it was going in the direction of the music. As he neared he thought he knew one of the voices, but ignored it for the time being.

Nikkolai finally dove down to the ground and scooped the furfur into his arms, looking down at it with a stern look in his eyes. The thing seemed to laugh though and he sighed, looking up finally to apologize. However, when he saw who he was in front of he had to blink.

“Seth?” His eyebrow lifted and he pushed himself to his feet, stroking his furfur lightly. “I didn’t meant to intrude, sorry. You two can blame this little guy…”

He didn't stop playing the song, though he had to cut the song out when Krishna sat beside him. "Hello yourself," he said cheerfully. The man was playing well, no doubt. He was surprised that he knew the song, it wasn't exactly a common thing.

A sound of someone crashing down behind them caught his attention as he turned to look, still never breaking the music. "Nikki!" he cried, joyful that he should be here. "Come sit! How have you been?" He looked at the small animal. It was cute, but there was pure malevolence in its eyes. Must've been a gift from Yaksha.

Krishna smiled warmly at Nikki as he grew close, and patted the ground near him. "A pleasure to meet you, my boy, a real glory! There's nothing to apologize for, I assure you." He rose, easily several inches taller than Seth, and opened his arms wide, engulfing Nikki in a tight hug. "Always happy to meet new people, make new friends!" He finally stepped back, and smiled at Seth. He pulled out his flute, and then smiled merrily. He twirled the flute between his fingers, then bowed. "This is quite the day for celebration. My child, a song, if we may?" He brought the flute to his lips, and began to blow slowly. The beads of sweat breaking out on his brow would've been almost unnoticable in the bright light.

Nikkolai was glad to see that neither of them were angry by his intrusion. He looked at the furfur and although he hated to be mean to it, he pushed it into his pocket. Enough was enough – the thing was getting out of hand!

He went to make a move to sit when a man as tall as Seth stood and came to him. Nikkolai trembled a little bit under him, not so used to being around such big people. He yelped when the man engulfed him in a tight hug, but Nikki returned it warmly and smiled.

“I would be Nikki,” he introduced. “And you?” He cocked his head to the side, then remembered Seth had asked a question.

“I’ve been well! I heard you two playing… it was great! I’m glad I finally got to hear you play violin.” With that said he sat down, looking to the two others.

He laughed as Nikki pushed the small animal inside his pocket. He was always glad to see the little fluffball- And he didn't mean the furfur- for he seemed to brighten any situation. He liked the present company quite a lot, as it was.

"You're too kind, Nikki!" He'd always been modest in life, especially about his musical talents. So when he was complimented on it, he always felt obliged to compliment back. "A song sounds nice," he said, looking at the new man, "But may I ask your name first? I'm Seth."

Krishna chuckled at the two's antics, and bowed as Seth asked his name. "You may call me Krishna. I am the light of hope for these people. I am the glory of the world." He smiled now, his face almost radiant from the joy. He lay back, staring up at the sky, and finally spoke once more. His voice was calm, soft, and unshakable. "But enough about me. Tell me of yourselves, children. Where do you hail from? Have you any relatives?"

“I speak only the truth!” Nikkolai said. He may have been kind, but Nikkolai really tried his hardest never to lie.

Krishna… it was an odd name, but he said nothing of it. His mood seemed to become a bit more solemn when asked where they came from and who their relatives were. Nikkolai’s thoughts drifted to the brandings on his back and he became a little paranoid, even though he knew they couldn’t be seen.

He plastered on a fake smile and closed his eye, holding his head in his hands. “I don’t know where I come from,” he said. “Don’t care, either! And relatives… two brothers and a sister, as far as I know. Don’t know where I come from so really there could be more…”

But he was pretty sure they had all been killed.

"Well, I dunno' if I can compete with hope of the people and glory of the world," began Seth with a laugh, "But I do what I can to help people." He lost himself in childhood memories for just a moment at Krishna's question, but Nikki's voice snapped him back. He sounded... What did he sound?

He'd never known Nikki had had such an empty past. And judging by the smile on his face, there was more he was hiding. Seth knew smiles, he could tell it wasn't genuine, but he decided to pursue the issue no further.

"I'm an Aasimar," he said. "Quarter Celestial, father's side. Rest is human from mom."

Krishna rose as he heard Nikki speak, and then he shook his head slowly. His voice grew soft, and began to crack as he spoke. "Such a shame. Not to know where you're from, who your parents were. I can feel such agony, myself. I never knew my own parents." Tears were beginning to well in his eyes, and he blinked them away. "My mother died in childbirth. She was a true angel, in every sense of the word. She died with a smile on her face, I heard..." After this, he sighed, and then spat on the ground. "And my father. He was the first man I ever hated."

He stared off across the lake, then finally shook his head, and looked up, smiling softly. "I'm an Aasimar too. I love what I do, and I do it well. But it's never easy for me...." He looked down at Seth's violin case, and then waved at it. "You're quite good at your instrument, yourself. Why do you play? What brings you to persevere so?"

He hadn't expected such a dark past. It brought his own mood slightly lower; He felt bad for his fellow Aasimar. He had had the luxury of knowing both his parents, as well as his paternal grandmother, and knowing that they were still alive too. He loved his parents dearly, moreso than most other people he encountered. They'd raised him, he could never repay that kindness. Of course they always berated him if he tried to help them out in an way, it was always the same story...

"Why do I play?" he repeated the question to himself. He'd never really given it much thought, before now. "Well, I suppose it's because..." He had to think again. "I love making people happy. If my music can do that, and I can live off of it... Well, what could be better than that?"

Nikkolai bit his lower lip softly after hearing Krishna’s story. He had been so willing to share – and while he trusted them both, he simply couldn’t return the feeling. He was already darkening the mood and he wouldn’t tell them the haunting tale of a past he could barely even recall… it would be too unfair to them and he cared too much to burden them with his petty problems.

“I’m sorry,” he said, both in sympathy and as a true apology. His eyebrows knitted, contemplating telling them why out of guilt when he decided not to. I’m only lying for your own good, please understand….

He listened to their conversation about music, narrowing his eyes a little bit as his pocket began to seemingly jump around. Nikkolai glared down at it and decided to let the furfur out, only out of the goodness of his own heart. Once freed the furfur immediately ran to Krishna and danced around his ankles, then moved to Seth and proceeded to do the same,

“I wish I could share the passion for music,” he said almost whimsically. “But I never have… I don’t think.”

Krishna nodded sagely as Seth spoke, his eyes twinkling with a warmth and genuine kindness that was refreshing. "I can appreciate that, Seth. Music can make a man happy. But for me, music is more than simply a form of entertainment. To me, when a man plays a song, truly plays it, and puts a portion of his very soul in it...he makes it his own. He lives on forever, in those simple tunes. To me, music is a peek into the eternal. Music can crack that door between today and tomorrow. Music, to me...is the key to infinity." He gave a small grin, and a blew a single, crisp note on his flute. "Music never truly dies. Nor does the one that makes it."
