| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

"Sorry to dissapoint," came a sarcastic jab as Abigail compared his face to that of a wounded man. Yulth waved his hand haphazardly as he allowed the growing ball of life energy flee from his thin skin. The spell continued to act as a funnel for Abigail's life force even after Yulth lost interest in manipulating its form. It was left to drain slowly into the disperse threads of life magic that enveloped the world like a loose net. The beastly demon-shell was not finished. Not by a longshot. The evening was fresh and the prey was scarce. He found no taste in chasing down nocturnal creatures when he had a perfectly good sentient mortal to toy with. His mouth mumbled incoherent words as he turned away from Abigail. He exposed his tall back to her as his eyes glanced down toward the fire. He was distracted: his mind was split in two. He uttered magical incantations that sent his own will into the conciousness of the suffering girl. He would probe her thoughts as he enticed her emotions. "And what game would you play," Yulth spoke to the fire. His voice was only slightly hidden as he faced away from his victim. "I suppose you save your fear for something besides death? Maybe you are fool to cling to the hope that someone you love will wake you and comfort you from this bad dream." Yulth's smile returned as he fished another gem from the bag and watched the form of a tortured child writing in its facetted face. It was clear by the light of the fire. His conciousness drifted from his mind to Abigail's, listening intently. |

(OOC: Sorry for taking so long. I've been dealing with that Biochemistry midterm all week. My head was filled with, "If you start with this substrate in the CAC how many NADHs, NTPs and FADH2s will you get...") Abigail coughed again, leaning her head back to rest it against the bark of the tree. She used the trunk’s strength to keep her upright and closed her eyes. She was suddenly feeling tired, he was doing this to her, sapping her. She opened her eyes slowly to see him holding another gem in his hand, she blinked twice, but she was sure she could see the image of a small child. She shivered and tried to control her breathing. Obviously if she wanted to live, which she did, she was going to have to employ some sort of strategy. Running wasn’t an option, and she couldn’t overpower him. She was going to have to play this game, even if she didn’t want to. She stared at him blankly as she answered, “Fine. You like games. You obviously enjoy fear. I propose this, you try figure out my one true fear. You can have three guesses. You guess right, and you can take whatever you want from me, but if you guess wrong you can never have what you want from me. Ever.” She rubbed her throat, and glanced at her fingers. More blood. “It is apparent you could take what you want, from whomever you want. Why don’t you make a wager for a change, take chance, and let the thrill of a gamble run through you.” Abigail threw open her arms, “If I lose I won’t even fight back. I'll scream and beg all you like, I'm sure you enjoy that.” Abigail guessed. |

How very interesting her thoughts were. It was a mix of salted fear with the spicy resilience of the desire to live. Her exact thoughts remained cryptic; Yulth did not have much practice in dealing with the thoughts of mortals. Those who had already passed through life into death were more honest, and much easier to read. Even so, he felt the sting as Abigail attempted to bribe him with the idea of a wager. Yulth's lips crept further into his cheeks as malicious and devious thoughts filled his head. "Tsk, little girl, you offer so little for something as rare as your soul. After all, you only have one," Yulth snapped, his eyes darting back to the girl who was so daring. "However, a game we will play, a bet like you say," Yulth rhymed as he dropped the purple gem back into the bag and tucked it all into his robe. Yulth's hands became busy with complex motions and a large scorpion tail slid out from the robes to begin drawing in the sand. The necromancer's eyes grew dark as he chanted an arcane word, and sudden stillness became the secluded camp once again. "The game has begun, and it will be fun. Tell me, do you know fear as the blood curdles in your veins and your flesh rots, to know death, as it consumes you bit by bit?" Yulth jabbed. "Would this game be concluded so quickly with a fear so silly as death itself?" (OOC: The spell is False Curse. Your flesh is peeling and you feel the very life within you turn cold and stale.) |

Abigail slowly blinked once at his rhyming. “He is truly insane.” Her thoughts warned her, but he had accepted her challenge. She had no way of knowing if he would be true to his word if she won, but at least there was a small glimmer of hope. Her thoughts began to wander as to what he truly wanted from her, she knew death of course, but she began to wonder what more he was going to take. Too late. She was always true to her word, and she knew that he would have taken whatever it is from her anyway, at least now she had a small sliver of a chance. She braced herself as he started to wave his hands around again and she gasped as the scorpion tail emerged from his robe. She felt that familiar tension in the air once more and she waited to see what horrors were in store for her this time. Suddenly she felt her spirit begin to freeze and whither away, and her soul seemed to be falling into despair. She winced as her whole body seemed to catch fire, and she slid down the trunk of the tree, sitting on the cold ground amongst the rotting leaves. She forced her eyes open and she gasped as she saw her skin began to peel. She lifted one of her hands, barely able to control its movements. She peeled away a piece of her own flesh and skin, and held it her shaking hand. She whispered, “Gross….” She glared up at the monster before her, “WRONG. I do not fear death. What is to fear when you just enter blissful oblivion? Guess again.” She spat. |

"Of course you do not fear death," Yulth repremanded Abigail as he swung his scorpion tail threateningly toward her. "Had you feared death, I would not be sparing you this long." Yulth was captivated by her emotions. Perhaps it had been too long since thoughts unmarred by perversion had passed through his head. Either way, he was enjoying his tap into Abigail's conciousness. It became stronger as he grew accustomed to the second voice talking in his skull. His stretched smile covered his thoughts as he turned away from Abigail and reached down into the sand surrounding the fire. His tail remained poised, warning the undead girl not to try and run. After all, she was now more of a puppet to his desires than she could even imagine. The robed figure mumbled to himself and scratched a few symbols into the sand, seemingly ignoring the heat of the fire when his fingers moved too close. With exacting precision, he finished his runes and picked up a handful of warm dirt in his hand. He spun around without standing back up and released the sand in a loose mist. "The game has only begun," Yulth reminded Abigail. "Try not to scream." (OOC: The spell is Know Fear. Thinking about your fear will be sufficient, so long as you say what it is, haha ^_^) |
