| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Many Hours Earlier And A Few Years Into The Future... "Zemire! I did nothing to deserve this! Why must you hurt your own niece?!" Loste screamed in pain, and a shudder ran through her body. Blood ran down her arms, from thin, spidery like cuts. She was on her knees, hunched over, tears running freely down her cheeks. Her hands rested on the stone floor, her hair falling about her face as she looked up at the dark lady, who hovered over her, laughter escaping from the porcelains red lips. "Now, now, dear. You know our family fell apart years ago, on your father's fault." She hissed. She waved her hand through the air, saying strange words of magic. Suddenly, Loste felt someone pulling at her, making her skin prickle. Random burst of shudders wrecked her body, and before she knew it, she was falling to the darkness of unconsciousness. ------------------------- The Present... Loste jerked awake. Her eyes flying open wide, and she gasped in surprise mainly. Above her, was a clear blue sky, with few clouds in the sky. A shiver ran through her as she climbed up from her laying position and onto her knees. She looked around her surroundings, at the few trees that littered the grassy grounds, and nothing else of much notice. A cold breeze blew around her, and she shivered as she climbed to her feet. This place seemed almost familiar, but so many things were out of place. She shook her head slightly, trying to clear her mind, then she noticed her arms and almost forgot the sting that came. Her arms were riddled with odd cuts, and dried blood cake her arms. She lifted a hand to her forehead and felt some dried blood in her hair too. No wonder why she felt slightly dizzy. Good thing the blood wasn't fresh, fresh warm blood always made her queasy, though, even just the thought of it made her feel even more lightheaded. Shaking her head once more, she stumbled forward, walking towards the long stretch of road that went in both directions for probably miles. Now would be a good time to have her horse, but who knew where he was, she didn't even know where she was. Why had Zemire sent her to the middle of nowhere? What did it accomplish? When she could, she will find her aunt and cut her down herself. She staggered along the road, she feeling sluggish, but who knows how long she had been out, and what Zemire had done to her, but hopefully, she would find out soon enough. She couldn't imagine what she looked like, blood crested to arms, hair, and even to her black dress she wore, and her feet were bare. She continued down the long road, looking dazed and confused. ((OOC: Hope its good... I'm satisfied with it.)) |

It hadn’t been very long since all his wounds had healed; in fact, Nikkolai had only just been released. He was still a bit wobbly on his feet, but his unicorn spear had been returned to his hands and as always, he trudged along using it to help with his balance. A white bandage covered his empty eye socket and his blonde hair was somewhat matted against it. Her gaze was cast down somewhat, examining his feet as he walked. Attacked by a demon and a vampire… what was the world coming to? And why had he just let it happen? His objective was to get to Kellen. Norwood was close enough from there and he wanted to stop to see if there were any healing supplies he could pick up while he was here. Doubtful, but he could at least try, couldn’t he? Nikkolai finally pulled his gaze up from the ground and looked about the winding paths, although he wasn’t quite sure considering the outskirts of Kellen didn’t have anything of interest. He was about to look down again when he spotted a figure in the distance. Nikkolai squinted and picked up the pace a little bit, noticing that it was a woman. The scent of blood hit him right on; it didn’t smell fresh, but considering he had been surrounded by it so much lately he could easily pick it up. Alarmed, Nikkolai picked up his pace to that of a jog, despite the fact that it wasn’t really good on him right now. He would regret it later, but for now make sure this poor girl was all right. “Miss!” he called out, hoping she would stop walking when she heard his voice. Nikkolai slowed to a struggling walk soon enough and leaned on his staff a few yards behind her, not able to move any further. He was hunched over a little bit and his chest was heaving, and if he hadn’t had the spear he might have been on the ground. “Miss! Are you all right, do you need anything healed? Oh, dear, it’s worse than what I thought it would be…” A hand lifted up to his mouth, his fingers resting on his lower lip in horror. “What happened to you?” Oh, God, he hoped she didn’t meet the same people he had. |

A voice called her to stop in her almost trance like state, and she turned away, to see a man trying to get to her side quickly. She watched him struggle to a stop, but didn't think to reach out and help him to keep steady. She looked at him questioningly, forgetting for a moment that she was hurt then looked at her arms again, and held them out slightly so she could look at the entwining thin cuts all around her forearms, and she grew a bit more dizzy and almost lost her balance, but managed to stay on her feet. She cocked her head slightly to the side. "What happened? My aunt turned on me, and I'm going to hunt her down and cut her to little pieces!" She snapped viciously, then took a deep breath, calming herself. She looked at the unicorn spear, and remembered Zemire as she taught her of the many common weapons, artifacts, as she had called them, because they were from an earlier time. She remembered that they had healing properties too. She looked at the man, and let a smile tug at the corners of her lips. He was pretty now that she actually focused her attention to him, but that didn't last long till she remembered she needed to be healed. She gestured to the spear slightly. "Going to heal me? Or shall I continue down the road till I fall over?" Loste asked, glancing down the long road, eyes narrowing at the thought of having to walk it with the wounds she had. She looked back at the wounds on her arm, a little annoyed how the lines will most likely leave scars. |

Nikkolai was taken aback by her vicious tone. Her own family had turned on her and now she wanted that person dead… had he heard that right? Inwardly he knew that he had, but knowing that so many families had got along so poorly always hurt him. He nodded, understanding, but remained silent. This woman seemed upset and angry and she was injured… he didn’t want to push her any further by saying the wrong thing or by something being misinterpreted. He had learned already that people could be savage even without provocation, so he would try his best to tread lightly. The next thing he knew she was smiling. That was a good sign; smiling was always a good sign. Nikkolai returned it, his lips curving up into a wide, innocent smile. Maybe, just maybe, she wouldn’t bite his head off now. After all, he was only trying to help; maybe his presence would help calm her down somewhat. At the mention of healing, Nikkolai started back into serious reality and nodded vehemently. He rushed to her side and looked her up and down, noticing that she was a bit bigger than him. “Let me see,” he said gently, snaking his free hand to the underside of her arm and holding it lightly so as to not cause her any pain. The blood was dried, for the most part, but the cuts would probably leave ugly marks. With any luck he could fix it, but he wasn’t quite sure. “Yikes… and your aunt did this to you?” There was a hint of pain in his voice and he sighed, shaking his head. “No matter. We’ll have to get you cleaned up in Kellen though, I don’t have any cloths on hand to wash off the blood… and you might want to buy new clothes, considering yours are, well, covered in blood.” With that said Nikkolai brought the spear to rest on the top of her arm. He could feel energy flow from inside of him and into the spear and the injuries began to close. Nikkolai then took her other arm and repeated the process, being careful the whole time. “Was there anywhere else that needed healing, Miss?” he asked, at that point realizing neither of them knew each other’s names. “Oh! And I’m Nikki. You are…?” |

She allowed him to take her arm. She watched his face as he examined her cuts, to keep her focus away from the dried blood. She laughed hollowly. "Yeah, wonderful gift from her, isn't it? My damn family is so screwed up. I've always hoped for a normal life, thought she could help me, instead, she keeps me for a day or so, and does this." She said, sighing. When he mentioned Kellen, she looked up, head cocking to the side slightly. So she was near the small village. Nice to know her location, but she hadn't been to the place in a long time, and wondered if there were many changes, and she wondered if her friend was still there. She looked at her clothes, eyes narrowing at her dark dress, and sighed. "Yeah... new clothes might be a good idea..." Then he started to heal her arms. The wounds closed up as much as they could, but she knew under the skin would have to heal. The skin basically healed, but it was clear to see the scars visible. When he asked if she had anywhere else that needed healing, she lifted a hand and touched her head. "I think... I have a wound on my head... doesn't seem that bad, but its enough to annoy me." She grumbled. So he was called Nikki. She smiled slightly. "I'm Loste, Loste Golden." Loste said. With her free hand, she ran it along her dress, feeling the dried blood on the fabric. She could probably wash it out, and it should leave a stain, since it was such dark fabric, but then, she wouldn't want to wear it in Kellen, she would stick out to much then, and being a Golden, her reputation wasn't the best. |

((OoC: crap post. -_-;;; sorry.)) ---------------------- Nikkolai shook his head, saddened by the fact that he truly believed her story. This sort of thing happened all too often nowadays. “I’m so sorry,” he whispered in sympathy, his tone genuine. Nikkolai wasn’t a liar and he especially wouldn’t lie about something like this. The poor girl had sought helped and been injured like this. “It’s inhumane…” “I’ll buy them for you,” he offered. If she had money on her then she would need to spend it wisely, and in Nikkolai’s mind that meant spending it on staying at the inn until she could find her own place and buying food. He wasn’t rich, but he had a good sum of money that he had made after leaving Imythess for that brief time. Besides, after going through what she went through, she deserved a little bit of kindness from someone. Before he had a chance to examine her head, she introduced herself. “It’s nice to meet you, Loste,” he said honestly. “Now here, let me see your head.” Nikkolai got up on his toes so that he could reach and gently touched her head, narrowing his eye to try and get a better look. He couldn’t exactly see anything, but he lifted the unicorn spear and rested it there just in case. She knew better than he did what hurt her and he wasn’t about to question that. Lowering the spear once it was done, he held her by the arm and looked off in the direction of Kellen. “I’ll help you walk, I don’t want you trying to walk without help,” he said. “How long ago did this all happen? Most of it’s dried but the wounds seem fresh…” |

She waved her hand to the side slightly. She didn't like to feel others sympathy or anything, so she didn't pay that much attention. She Smiled though, when he said he could buy her the clothes she would need so as not to make a scene in the small town. She had a little gold on her and such, but not a whole lot, and she would need it for food and shelter. "Thanks... your being too kind..." She mumbled, a smile flitting across her face. She tilted her head to the side as he examined it, and then healed it. As the spell worked, she felt the magic tingle her, and a shudder ran along her spine. Nikki was then done, and she ran her hand through her hair, no longer feeling the wound, but then she did still feel slightly dizzy. She laughed slightly when he said he could help her walk. From how he had staggered before, she thought it would be the other way around, but she smiled in a friendly way. Thanks again..." She said, a bit uncertain. She was not used to this, no one ever helped her in the past, she had been always on her own. She thought a moment, when he asked how long ago this had happened, and shrugged. "I don't know... I've been out for a while, but it happened less the twenty four hours... which is obvious." She said. And then she wondered again how she had gotten here. She sighed, then looked at Nikki, and finally noticed the bandage over one of his eyes and the other bandages. She gestured to it. "What happened to you?" She asked, mainly wanting the attention away from herself. |

Her smile brought a glint of joy into his eyes. Knowing he had healed her, that he had made her smile, seemed to make life worth it. Nikkolai was generally a cheerful little thing, but for the most part he found his happiness in others. “Too kind?” he questioned in disbelief, chucking softly. “No such thing, my dear. I’m simply treating you the way you deserve to be treated, with dignity and respect.” He nodded once to emphasize his point, locks of fuzzy, knotted blonde hair falling into his face as he did so. Once more he nodded, a smile so wide creasing his face that it wrinkled the skin beneath his eyes. “Aww, you don’t have to thank me,” he said. “But you’re welcome anyway. You know… you really should smile more often.” Nikkolai’s features softened then. Although the smile remained, it was far more subtle now, and perhaps it was that fact that made his statement all the more powerful. Loste really was a pretty one, he had to admit. Nikkolai never really paid attention to appearances – outwardly things were trivial – but even with that said she seemed like a decent person on the inside. Unlike others, she hadn’t tried to attack him yet and hadn’t yet to become angry with him over something miniscule. Less than twenty-four hours was a given, as she had said. While it didn’t truly sate his curiosity, it wasn’t Nikkolai’s place to pry. “Well, at least she won’t hurt you here, right?” he said, trying to put a positive spin on the situation. It might not have been his place to pry, but it most certainly was his place to make her feel better – it was more than his place, in fact, it was his purpose. “Kellen is safe, too, from what I’ve heard there aren’t too many uprisings there. Taras… well that’s a different story.” He sighed. The sudden attention on himself caused him to stiffen and his one eye widened in alarm. His hand lifted away from her arm and traced over the outline of the bandages, able to feel his touch on the skin beneath it. “I…” How was he supposed to explain something this terrible? “A man named Fehade,” he said, his voice quivering somewhat in fear. Nikkolai took her arm again, holding on a bit tighter and giving her a suddenly stern look. “If you hear that name, if you ever hear him come near you… you run, you run for the hills and you don’t look back, okay? He’s dangerous and frightening and I won’t have anyone else be hurt by him.” Realizing that his grip had tightened on her flesh from how passionate his words had been, Nikkolai loosened his hold on her and sighed. “I’m sorry… that didn’t hurt, did it?” He was sure it hadn’t. He wasn’t very strong, after all. |

The way everyone deserves, not in her family it seemed. But she was happy to hear that, for the first time anyway. She had lived mostly a sheltered life, being taken care of by a woman named Veri Silver, who hadn't exactly been the friendliest, seeing as she was completely jealous of her father for some reason, Loste had always reasoned that Veri had loved her father, but never got him, therefore hated him. But the mere idea of actually being respected more and the such made a joyful glint through her eyes. Then Nikki smiled, it was a wide, warm smile, also something she rarely saw, and when he said she should smile more, she felt her face grow red slightly. She wasn't used to situations like these, with odd feelings moving about her, and gratitude was a new emotion, and actually happy, and someone actually helping her, it was different, and almost made her a little afraid. "Yes... I really must thank you, after all... your one of the first people to actually show kindness to me." She said, shrugging lightly. “Well, at least she won’t hurt you here, right?” She felt a shudder run through her spine, and took a deep breath. "I hope your right... that she won't hurt me here, but I never know when she may appear, she's a powerful person." She said. Though, she still didn't know she was in the past now, didn't know that her aunt was in hiding, gathering strength, and waiting. When he mentioned the village and Taras, she cocked her head slightly. She had remembered her aunt talking about when Loste was probably five, that Taras had been destroyed by demons, her aunt had loved that, she had admired the demons work. “A man named Fehade,” Loste just needed to hear that. She felt everything go blank, and she felt numb. She barely felt Nikki as he grabbed her arm again but more tightly this time, and barely made sense of his words. She stared wide eyed at Nikki, unknown of how to feel. Her father... did this to him...? No, it had to have been a different Fehade, she thought, trying to convince herself it wasn't him, but, deep inside her, she knew it was, and it made her feel terrible, like she was going to be sick, and she suddenly felt that it was harder to breath. She looked away from Nikki, and closed her eyes. "Dear gods... that's terrible... He must be a really cruel person to hurt someone like you." She said, her voice weak. She regained herself, and took a deep breath, and looked back at Nikki. When he asked if he had hurt her, she merely shook her head, she had barely noticed with the news she had just heard, and she would have smiled to reassure him, but she couldn't bring herself to do so. |

Nikkolai was shocked by what she told him. Shocked, disappointed, and somewhat angry too at how unfair things had been for her. An aunt that hated her, that beat her like this, and she had seen kindness so few times… and yet she wasn’t a raving maniac like most people who had never been shown kindness or love turned out to be. “I’m glad that I met you, then,” he said earnestly. “I’m sure I won’t be the last to show you kindness. There are good people in Imythess… you just have to know where to look. I’m a firm believer that there’s good in most everyone, though… so I guess I’m a tad too optimistic for you, huh?” Nikkolai chuckled. His eyebrows furrowed somewhat. “She may be powerful physically… but she has to be in a weak state of mind if she’s insecure enough to hurt her own niece.” Nikkolai cringed as soon as he said those words. “Sorry – it isn’t my place to say anything, I know.” Regardless of whether her aunt had been cruel to her, they were still family and Loste may still have loved her simply because of that. If her aunt did appear, though, there were people in Imythess who would help her, himself included. That wasn’t something they had to worry about yet though, so for the time being he would say nothing. With the way she was acting now he bit his lower lip, almost wishing he hadn’t told her. He didn’t want to worry her, but he supposed it was best that she knew. The last thing he wanted was for her or anyone else to be hurt by that man. A small smile brushed his lips at her words, though, and he fully accepted the compliment. “Thank you,” he said. “But I did provoke him, I think. I was drunk when it happened… so I don’t remember everything.” He chucked nervously, quite embarrassed by that fact. Nikkolai was responsible, for the most part, but even now there were details that he didn’t remember. The names, though, and the look of malevolence in Fehade’s eyes… those were things that would stay with him forever. It was time to change the subject, though. As good as it was that she had been forewarned and as open as he was, it was a sensitive topic for him. “Ah… we should get there soon. But where are you from, Loste?” Yikes. As soon as he said that he realized that might have been touchy, too, since with what she told him it didn’t seem like her life had been the easiest. |

Good people in Imythess? Yes, she supposed there were many, but she had never really spent time around them, her foster demon parents kept her away from them, but she was glad that she may have a chance at the seeing the good in others. "...I’m a firm believer that there’s good in most everyone, though… so I guess I’m a tad too optimistic for you, huh?” She laughed slightly, but it was quiet, and another smile flitted over her face. She didn't mind it really, sure, she knew that there was good in people, but there was always darkness lurking about the corner, waiting to turn the heart black. But the small smile was instantly gone as he spoke of her aunt again, and she grimaced slightly. "I suppose... but... well, you don't exactly know how my family is, and works... No one in my family has proved to be right in the mind really... so I guess your right about her then..." She said a little uneasily. She wondered if she was even the only one in the family who wasn't as crazy as the others, she hopes not. Her mother had always kept her sanity, unlike Loste's fathers side. She shuddered again as she thought of her father. She tilted her head to the side when he said that he was drunk when her father tortured him, and wondered if it was better that way or not, but it still didn't help her from not feeling guilty over it. She sighed then, and looked down the road again. "I do hope I never have to face him... if I do, then I'll do as you say, and run." She said, but even as she said that, she knew she wouldn't run, after all, she always wanted to meet her true father, even if he seemed to be a maniac. “Ah… we should get there soon. But where are you from, Loste?” As he said that, she started to walk down the road, though, slowly. When he asked where she was from, she shrugged slightly. "My foster parents moved around a lot, so I come from all over, though, my foster mother said I was born in Tiash and stayed there til I was three, so, I suppose that's where I came from before moving around a lot." She said, thinking a moment, wondering if she had gotten the right information there, and wondered if she should tell him that her foster parents had practically been demons, and that she was a tiefling herself, but she felt a little unsure about that, and since he had most likely been tortured by her father, he probably wouldn't be able to trust many tieflings or demons, but she didn't want to keep many secrets from this person for some reason. |

He should have known that he would regret those words. Nikkolai just shouldn’t have said anything – it hadn’t been good of him to bring up memories of an insane family, especially since he hadn’t known and these wounds of hers were still fresh. “I’m sorry,” he said earnestly. “I just – I – forgive me for speaking without knowing that.” Feeling uncomfortable, he shook his head so that a few longer locks of blonde hair would fall into his face so he could at least partially hide himself. But he was glad that she would do as he advised. “Thank you,” he said. “I could have been hurt a lot worse and I wouldn’t want that to happen to you.” At this time he waved his hair out of his face and looked up to give her a smile. The thought of her being beaten the way he had been made his heart begin to ache. How could anyone be so cruel…? A soft sight passed through his nostrils. “I’ll forgive him for what he did in time; you can’t hold those who aren’t in the right state of mind accountable for their actions. But for now…” But for now, he would still regard the man with a certain degree of fear and detestation. Nikkolai walked at the slow pace she had set, not wanting to push her too hard – and frankly he was glad for the sluggish pace as well. After running after her in his condition he didn’t want to go that fast again. Physical activity was certainly not his forte, not with how small he was. “Tiash?” his eyebrows furrowed as he tried to recall the name. “Where is that? I haven’t heard of such a place before… it’s not part of Imythess, is it?” Nikkolai bit his lip, trying to recall if he had ever heard this ‘Tiash’ place. |

"Its alright... you didn't know." She said. She looked at him, and half smiled. She looked away to where she walked. She listened as he told her he didn't want her to get hurt like him too, and she looked down, she didn't want to either, and she didn't want her father to hurt anyone else. He then said that he would forgive him, sometime, and she shook her head. "You shouldn't... a man like him doesn't deserve to be forgiven." She said, running a hand through her own blond hair that had the black ends. Fehade never deserved forgiveness, he would never receive it from her. He had abandoned her, and was hurting everyone in his way. She sighed. Someone needed to stop her father before he does more damage, along with Mara. "Tiash is southeast of Imythess. Far away, and annoying to travel from and back." Loste answered him. She had loved that place, but it was thing of the past now for her... well, not for her younger self. She continued to walk, then glanced at Nikki. "Where are you from?" She asked. ((OOC: Smaaaall....)) |

"You shouldn't... a man like him doesn't deserve to be forgiven." Nikkolai offered a genial smile and shook his head. “Everyone deserves to be forgiven, whether they want it or not,” he told her in a voice that was soft and warm. “Sometimes you just have to learn to move on. And if they don’t want it, like I assume Fehade doesn’t… then I suppose it’ll just confuse them. But I can’t control that.” He shrugged then. The concept was something he hadn’t seen anyone but himself understand in the past, but that was all right. Like he had just said, he couldn’t control anything or what other people believed. He nodded then when she mentioned Tiash. “I see,” he said. “Still though, never heard of it. Is it a nice place? Do you miss it?” Then his own hometown was brought up, causing a look of distaste to cross his countenance before he forced a clearly fake smile. “I don’t remember the name, honestly,” he said. “But… they weren’t good people, from what I’ve been told. I won’t give all the details, for it’s far too depressing a matter, but they did bad things to me and took my memories and then sent me here. It’s not… really something I talk about.” His smile wavered then and he looked ahead, able to see Kellen’s gates. “Oh, hey, look at that. We’re nearly there.” |

How confusing this man was... the kind who forgave evil people, were... odd. She had met some when she was a bit younger, one had been a priest, which she had killed, but her foster parents, when they found out, made it look like it was done by someone else. She stuffed a hand into a pocket in her dress, and fidgeted slightly, looking down at the road. She looked up, when he asked if she missed Tiash, and she laughed sourly almost, then frowned. "No, I don't miss it... I guess it is a nice place, and beautiful but... to me, all I saw there were demons." She said, sighing, and put a hand to her face, closing her eyes lightly. She had known who were demons in that land, and there had been plenty, mainly those of her family, the Golden's and Silver's. She removed her hand, and looked up, at Nikki. Her eyes softened when she heard him speak. She lifted a hand, to perhaps try to comfort him, but she just let it fall back to her said, and looked ahead. "I'm sorry... She whispered. She looked ahead when he pointed out the gates, and she smiled. She couldn't wait to get her hands on fresh food, and bandaging, and even a tavern bed, even if they weren't the most comfortable. She moved her pace up a notch, wanting to get there as soon as possible, but she made sure she didn't have to push herself to hard, and Nikki. "Strange." She mumbled. As she walked, staring at the gates, it looked different, with her half-elven vision, she could see it well, and she was curious as to why it looked different to when she was last here. She glanced around her surroundings, but it looked normal, jsut a few of the trees that were scattered about seemed smaller. Odd. |
