| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

A dark and cool night, perfect for a walk in the woods. Of course, these woods weren't exactly ideal walking territory for most people. They said these woods were haunted after all, and based on it's appearance of bog and twisted, gnarled trees that hung an ominous pall over the creepily peaceful wood. If anything it wasn't the kind of place you'd want to travel alone but it was an opportune spot for thieves, making it all the more a reason that people didn't travel here often, especially at night. However, for one soul it was impossible to wait til morning, he had a delivery bound for a town on the other side of the bog and if it wasn't there by morning he'd surely be fired by his boss. Thus, his only choice to get the package there on time was to go straight through the Hauntwood in the dead of night with only a torch. His journey started out easily enough, but the woods of course were making him jittery and jumpy. As he made his way into the heart of the woods however, he couldn't help but feel he was being watched. He was getting more edgy by the second and it finally got to the point where a pin dropping could scare the living daylights out of him. As if on cue to this feeling of weariness, a figure darted from a nearby tree, some sort of object which the delivery boy thought must have been the end of some massive claw, threw the torch from his hand and to the ground behind him where it was quickly put out by the bog. As the figure began moving toward him, he turned and rapidly began running away in fear, back to the entrance of the marsh, letting out a piercing scream as he did so. Back at the scene of the figure, a minute or two after the boy was out of sight, a laughing could be heard, a low laughing but a laughing none the less. The figure was completely indistinguishable in the dark but it was obvious he was short, roughly three feet seven inches or so. He walked slowly towards the entrance of the marsh for a few hundred feet before leaning against a tree, his right hand now showing clearly that the object which must have jarred the torch from the boy's hand was actually a staff. He stood there, laughing lightly as he looked on into the night, enjoying the scenery as he waited for something else to happen, perhaps another traveler to intrude on his nightly peace. |

Sealamin had chosen to wait until nightfall before him and Romanus journied into the Marsh. The reasoning behind this, was that hopefully they would have more chance of finding, or encountering, this... thing, for want of a better word. Hopefully it be an ewould asy job, and would effectively give an easy bump up to their reputation before they even had the guild hall. Sealamin strapped his shield tight around his left arm, his leather armour hugging his body tightly, Sealamin having chosen not to have any metal armour, since it restricted him fighting faster over having a stronger defense. With his spare longsword strapped accross his back, and his cloak covering it apart from the hilt popping out over his right shoulder. Claryus in his hand, the masterwork sword glinting in the moonlight before they entered the wood. "You ready Romanus?" Sealamin asked to the human behind him. He would be at a slight disadvantage with his hearing and sight, but helpful all the same. |

Romanus was thankful for his Charger training now, as it helped his horse navigate more easily through the marsh without having to slow down. Otherwise, he would have been forced to abandon his horse and continue on foot. As it was, he was still considering it, not wanting to risk detection by their target before they wanted to be detected. He looked at Sealamin, then decided he may as well. He dismounted, and tied the horse to a tree, whispering to him to stay put and be quiet, then patting him on the side. He then walked back over to Sealamin. "Yeah, I'm ready. Let's do this." He strapped on his buckler to his left arm, then drew his longsword. He was sure that they would be able to handle whatever lay ahead, and this mission, being the first for the guild, would make or break their reputation. He had on no real armor, but he was used to fighting that way, it allowed him maximum mobility. He made a mental note to get some armor later. |

The air was getting thick with something, a smell precisely. And this particular smell was indeed not one he really enjoyed. While he couldn't hear or see anything quite yet he could smell that he had another intruder in his lovely woods and it irritated him to no end. "Fifth one tonight, don't these damn tourists know this place is haunted?" He asked himself, unable to keep from chuckling at the thought of it as he got up from his leaning position and looked down what he could see of the path cut through the marsh. No doubt soon his newest visitors would soon be here and he would scare them off as he did everyone else that dared to try and disturb his peace, but that was just a simple fact. Within a few more seconds he had walked forward about fifteen feet, raising his head in the air slightly and taking a deep whiff of the air. It was indeed an annoying smell, humans most likely, and once more not from around here. Whether they came for travel or battle, would soon enough be revealed but until then he could only wait as he finally heard faint footfalls in the distance. |

Sealamin nodded backwards and started walking forward quiet loudly and normally. Having no skills at stealth and hiding, it would be pointless to try and get through quietly and sneak apon whatever it was that was hiding there. No. Him and Romanus would draw it to them, and they should take him, alive or not. Sealamin was quite aware that Romanus had not brought his horse, which might be a slight disadvantage as Romanus, as a charger, would evidently be less effective on foot, but it would be too irritating to travel through this marsh with a horse, so was easier to leave it at the entrance. More worrying was the fact Romanus had no armour apart from a buckler and sword. Hopefully Sealamins keen eyesight and hearing would stop anything getting too close. "Keep your eyes peeled Romanus," Sealamin spoke over his shoulder as he continued to move through the forest noisely. |

Romanus realized quickly that their being noisy was more likely to draw their target, and as such made no effort to be quiet. He was unsure however of his logic in leaving his horse, since that was his specialty. However, he did not wish to risk breaking his horse's leg, and as such determined it had been a wise move to leave Guerriero there. He looked about, trying to see if he could find the spirit or whatever it was that they were looking for. "Nothing yet, Sealamin." He really wished he had some armor now, and wondered why he hadn't gotten any before. He determined that the first thing he was going to do was to get some, at least leather armor. That way it wouldn't be too heavy and restricting. He just hoped that he wouldn't sustain too much injuries during this mission. |

Taking another whiff, the short creature looked around briefly before looking over in the darkness to the spot where the footfalls where coming from. The sound was getting louder, and indeed the people traveling through the swamp where evidently not trying in the least to mask the sounds of their actions. It was indeed a strange thing but not uncommon among people traveling through here. The creature slowly walked forward again, going out towards the sound. In a few seconds he'd come to a point where he could vaguely see the shapes of two beings moving through the marsh, evidently humans by the looks of their silhouettes. He stopped, watching them as they approached and, when they got close enough speaking. "Well now, travelers, what an interesting surprise. Not often I see people out in the middle of night trudging through a murky old swamp like this." He said, careful not to arouse any extra suspicion yet besides his being here. "Who are you travelers? What are you up to out here so late? Business men?" His questions were simple ones and he was asking them from a ways away so they should have answered by the time they got to him. |

Vernon was observing some of the bodies he left to rot. Most were elven, the local fools, but there were a few humans in the mix. Most had been driven to their death by lure of the hefty bounty on Vernon's head. Vernon wanted to do something to make the bounty higher, but with Taras wiped into oblivion his favorite social setting was gone. Perhaps he would slay a few elves in their beloved village...again, but for now Vernon mind was on the scents of the decaying bodies. Sensational, yet not as ripe as he liked. They could rot a little bit more for he had to worry about the bugs and others such scavengers of his beloved Marsh. Vernon wanted a little sample to take with him though, and hacked of one of the bodies hands with his blade. Vernon wished he had decided to do that when the cadaver was still alive, as it would have been far more entertaining. Just as Vernon had finished making a handy his trusted bat flew in towards him. It would seem he had guests. "How many?" Vernon asked. The bat gave of three super sonic screeches, which went unheard by those without the refined hearing of bats. Probably a small band of bounty hunter. Their numbers would not aid them at all. They'd die like all the others, unless of course Vernon allowed them to run in shame. Vernon swiftly followed the direction Mitz had come form. It look a while to be free of the scent of delightful rotting corpses, but afterward he could smell his three visitors clearly. A human, a flying elf, and a strange new scent with no name. Vernon liked the prospect of trying new foods. Vernon needed no light to guide him, leaving only his stomach turning scent and his movements through the trees and across the ground to hint at his coming and the former was masked as he was hoping to stealthily approach his victims. Vernon didn't want his strange new quarry to run away before he got a chance to taste it. Vernon paused when was between the untasted treat and the two armed warriors. Vernon was a ways away, but he could see the curious object of interest which conveniently enough had been seeking the two humanoids Vernon also had to deal with. Vernon now moved in towards them slowly, not wishing to be heard until he had delivered his own formal greeting from the Master of the Marsh. |

The dark was hard to see through, but Sealamin naturally keen eye sight saw through to a small.... Rabbit thing walking through the mist towards them. A rabbit? Was that what was honestly scaring people along this path? It was just some small bunny! And when it spoke, it had no threat or danger in the voice, but things just didnt feel right. Stopping, Sealamin gripped his sword tighter, his legs lowering him slightly lower into a defensive stance incase of an attack. "We are some simple people travelling through the Marsh. We merely wish to pass uneventfull." Sealamin quickly looked round to Romanus before looking back ahead, "however, if you want to stand in our way little animal, then we will have to force our way through. There was this slight nauseating smell coming from somewhere off to the right and behind Sealamin and Romanus, yet Sealamin had no idea what it was, apart from stomach churning. |

Romanus had the urge to laugh when he saw their adversary, this was what they were after? But he knew that looks could be deceiving, and kept his composure. He didn't say anything to the creature though, preferring silence. He wasn't sure what the creature would be able to do, but didn't want to mock it or cause it to attack them without first assessing it's abilities. He readied himself into a defensive stance just in case of attack however. He thought he smelled something, but couldn't tell what it was. He dismissed it at first, until something in the back of his head told him that it might be something to pay attention to. He concentrated on the smell for a moment, then realized it was coming somewhere around them. He looked around, and noticed a figure creeping towards them, obviously trying to sneak up on them. Romanus poked Sealamin. "There's something over there coming up on us...." he whispered. |

Vega chuckled at the sheer brash attitude of the men. It was obvious from their looks they were here in this marsh for something more than a simple pass through but whatever said people were here for they would most likely engage him in battle either way. Until then he watched them approach until the other human said something to the first, evidenced by his head movements. Raising his head into the air and taking a deep whiff, the small creature caught an unusual scent. It smelled like flesh and corpses, not the most pleasant of smells to most creatures but he didn't mind it in the least. He did however, pinpoint the relative location the odor was coming from, nearby to the two intruders. He smirked in the darkness but said nothing, the travelers probably already knowing. There were far more unsavory creatures in this marsh however than the short creature, and most of them were far less calm as well. Vicious creatures lived in this swamp and they wouldn't take a second thought to ripping a human apart and eating them for lunch, which could of course attes to why this approaching creature smelled of corpses. Standing still as both the intruders, and the new creature approached, the short, rabbit-like figure waited calmly for either the intruders to get close, the creature to reveal itself, or both. It was rapidly turning into a very interesting night. |

Vernon wondered what the large round antennae on the winged bunny-like creatures head. He imagined it feeling and tasting similar to brain matter. He might decide to let the other two go, yet this strange new cuisine had to be tasted. Blood alone would likely not be enough to suffice, but Vernon was known to change his mind. The creature seemed a mage of sorts, the others were lightly armed warriors. He nearly scoffed when they mentioned that they lied and stated they wished to pass through uneventfully. It was clear they intended to accomplish something before returning to their horse. The horse likely belonged to the humans as he smelled of the creature's backside. It was possible that they had left the Master of the Marsh a sacrifice, but not likely. The magic masking Vernon's stench had been steadily deteriorating. Even when using stealth, Vernon did not like to be without his unique herald. He could hear from the human's whisperings that his scent had given away his general position. It was a matter of little importance for Vernon was already upon them. If he wished he could kill or maim one of them before they had a chance take cover, he could that wasn't much fun. "You chose the wrong marsh to hope to pass through uneventfully, unless of that horse was meant as a gift for me. I'm not fond of trespassers, until it tasting them of course," Vernon snickered from his perch on a tree limb that was visible to all three of the intruders. His right hand held a crossbow pointed at the warriors and with a wave of his left hand he casted a spell to give the rabbit creature a little company. A vile portal opened up behind Vega, it stunk nearly as Vernon. A wolf stepped out of the portal growling, foaming at the mouth, and hungry. Vernon didn't mind letting Rabid get the first few tastes of the strange creature. "What do you offer me fur ball? Besides a tasty flesh," Vernon snickered. |

Sealamin lowered himself into a crouch and spun round to the new voice. The smell was starting to get alot stronger sickly to Sealamin, and the random blood and rotting corpse smell from the gaint rat thing was quite repulsive. Now however was something different to what he and Romanus were here for, but it seemed to be that they would not make it out alive unless they killed that mutant rat. "Lets take that rat out Romanus." Opening his wings to full size filling the path, Sealamin swept up quickly towards the rat, Claryus' magic forcing the winds to become stronger towards the rat, pushing Sealamin quicker and fast, his sword aiming to pierce the beast right in the middle. Sealamin could hear some growling in the background and could guess that Romanus and the little bunny thing had their own troubles now. |

Romanus noticed as the wolf stepped out of the portal, and knew that this fight would be difficult. This creature seemed more powerful than any of them, but he figured, if the weird creature they had originally come to take care of would help them, they might have a chance at making it out alive. He watched as Sealamin attacked the rat thing, and made his choice. "I'll take care of the wolf, Sealamin!" He then spun around to face the wolf and the other creature, and sized up the wolf. He took no time in determining that this too would be tough, but figured they could do it together. He quickly rushed over. "This is gonna take some teamwork on our part." He then rushed the wolf, feigning a stab at it's paw, then quickly turning the blade so that it was on a clear path towards the wolf's throat. |
