Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Ah, peaceful solitude. These marshes were indeed a place of calm that laid heavily untraveled by the masses, and as thus it was the perfect place for this particular creature to come to get away from it all for a little while. The twisted trees and gnarled roots provided a creepy atmosphere as the night air carried with it a hint of tension.

He was, in essence, an interesting creature to be sure. He wasn't more than three feet and seven inches tall and he had extremely large ears with extremely well made clothing. He had short fur all over his body and an odd antenna-like protrusion coming from his head as well as a large staff that reached past the top of his head in his right hand. His facial features couldn't quite be made out in the darkness however unless one were to approach him. Some races would recognize him as a Moogle, though that description wasn't quite correct actually. But, none the less, he was here now, standing under the canopy of trees through which light filtered down from the moon aimlessly. He looked onward at the scene with interest as he leaned against one of the may trees in the area, enjoying the calm of night and waiting for something to possibly happen though he didn't really care if it did or not.

Some called this place haunted, he couldn't see what they were talking about though. In all essence he enjoyed the place immensely, though it could simply be that the people were afraid of what or who was haunting this dense forested swamp. He didn't really expect to find anyone here, rather he simply came to look around. If someone did present themselves however, perhaps he could use it to his advantage and get some information simultaneously. All would be revealed in time of course, all he had to do was wait.

Tock was frightend. Not only was he traveling during the fearsome time of night, but he was also traversing towards the dready hauntwood marsh. It was rumored to be dripping with ghosts and known to be ruled by a vicious criminal. Tock hoped that he would see none of these creatures and only the wounded child that had wandered to far from the safety of the forest. Tock rode on Valor they flew between the trees with the light Tock had produced as their guide. Valor had a better sense of direction than himself and could even sniff out the child when they were close. Soon the unwholesome smells of the marsh neared, making the small moogle even more uneasy. He could tell now that his winged blink dog was also afraid, but it didn't stop his advance. Thankfully the smells did not compare to the horrible stories Tock had heard of the beast that claimed the marsh as his own.

Valor hovered slightly in the air as he caught on to the scent of something, hopefully the child he was hoping to find. Unfortanely whatever the strange canine smelled didn't seem to be good. The flying hound utter a low grow and then barked a few times hoping to scare the creature off. Tock could see the creature, but wondered if he really wanted to, though it could only be so much more worse than the twisted silhouettes of trees too far away to be illuminated. Prehaps this wasn't the best idea after all. Looking for a needle in a cursed haystack. Tock wondered if he should flee now, but instead listened intently for the movements of whatever had caught valor's attention.

Enjoying his tranquility simply couldn't last. The figure suddenly snapped his head up as he looked around n the darkness for the source of the faint sound he'd heard. In a few more seconds it became clear that the sound was a barking of some sort, most likely from some sort of canine creature. These marshes certainly weren't unknown for having wolves and creatures of the like, but it didn't sound like one of the local fauna making this sound.

The figure stood up from his leaning position and looked in the direction of the sound, just barely making out the shape of what he believed to be the cause of it in the darkness. He slowly made his way towards it, approaching cautiously but calmly. He was still wondering what it was, especially because of the shape it made in the dark, but he couldn't be sure unless he got closer.

However, he also noted a light near the creature, perhaps hinting that this was some kind of hunting dog with a human companion carrying a lantern. He stopped some fifteen feet away and stared at it,holding his staff upright as he did so. "What do we have here?" He asked in a calm tone to the creature, or creatures. Whatever it was, especially if it was a human hunter, it may respond to him. After this he simply stood, waiting for an answer from whatever it was and staring off into the darkness towards it.

Valor seemeed even more unsettled when the creature seemd to approach rather than retreat. Valor was silent when the creature became visible, but that didn't seem to make him feel better. Tock was surprised by what he saw. It was like a moogle, but his ears were strangely lengthy like those of a hare's and his pom-pom was nearly as big as his head. It had strange whiskers and even hair on the top of its head like most humaniod races. It had bat-like wings but they were a regal gold color rather than a cursed red like Tock's. Gold wings were a sign of great fortune and it seemed to show in the creatures expensive clothing. Tock's clothing on the other hand was simple, cheap, but travel worthy. The creature, presumably male was like a moogle, yet differed much like an elf differed from a human. As far as Tock knew moogles or anything like them weren't native Imythess; perhaps this was instead some bizarre undead with power over illusions that Valor was trying to warn against.

Tock moved his light emiting pom-pom behind him so as to not blind the creature with the light. "I am Tock and this is Valor. We are looking for an elven child who may have wandered into the marsh. But who are you and what are you doing here?" Tock stated trying to mask fear from his voice and not doing the best job of it. Tock wished Valor wouldn't be so unnerved by the creature as there didn't seem anything creepy about him yet.

(<.< wow can't beleive the details I forgot in the haste of my last post)

"Who am I?" The creature chuckled as he made a mental note of the Moogle. He hadn't seen one of his own race in some time around here. Of course, this one seemed to be scared out of his wits though he was trying to hide it unsuccessfully and it made the figure interested in speaking to him. He looked at Tock again, his clothing, wings, and even pom-pom all very different from his own yet still it was a Moogle.

He smirked as he walked forward a few more steps and began to speak. "I am Montblanc." He stated simply. He'd used that alias for some thirty years and it was almost as common to him as his actual name now. "And what I'm doing here is quite simple." He continued as he looked at the Moogle's eyes with his own grey ones. "I frequent in this marsh, it's my home of sorts you see." His answer would no doubt be a bit perplexing to the Moogle as someone with such fine clothing as his hardly looked like one to frequent this place enough to call it a sort of home.

"But, I culd ask you what you're doing here in this marsh as well mister Tock." He continued as he looked at the dog before returning his gaze to Tock. "After all, they say it's haunted and it is roughly midnight I'd say. What would you be doing traveling through here so late?" He stood waiting for a reply as he had been before, his right hand still holding his staff as he waited for the Moogle to continue the conversation.

His answer brought no comfort at all. Surely he had to be some ghost or unsavory being to call this place home. Prehaps he was indeed just an immaterial ghost which would explian why his fancy clothes still managed to look fancy despite moving through marsh which would surely soil them among other possiblities. It also did well to explain why Valor was spooked by the unholy abomination. If the creature was indeed a ghost as he seemed to be he didn't seem to be a bad ghost and maybe would help him find the child. There was also the possiblity that the creature was either lieing or some foul shape-changing servent of the one calling himself ruler of the marsh. Tock found the first theory to be the most appealing as it lacked the malicous intent imbeded within the other two.

"My apologies for not speaking clearly enough, Montblanc. I am searching for an elven child who wandered this way into the marsh. There is a fear he might be hurt as well as lost, and if he is left in this dangerous place for long enough he will die. If you wish, you can aid me in my search," Tock explained wondering if the ghost had heard the explaination the first time and only pretended not to hear to have an excuse to throw in the the unsettling words haunted and midnight. Tock still didn't trust the ghost, but he would need all the help he could get to find the child. If the creature helped it would also prove itself above the foul reputation of undead. Not all ghosts were blood-thirsty demons, right?

Chuckling again, Montblanc drummed his fingers up and down the staff in his right hand. He thought for a second on Tock's proposition before replying, thinking of all the possibilities. "I suppose I could help you out Tock...after all, I don't need someone else turning up missing in this marsh too. If an Elven child is indeed out here it could bring some unwanted attention to this place as well, and searching it at night when you don't know the place can make you lose your bearings with incredible ease, it all looks the same deeper in you know."

His reply was simple enough, he didn't want to appear suspicious or anything, not that he wasn't sure this Moogle was at least to some degree already suspicious of him due to the fact he called this marsh home, but perhaps this would alleviate some of that suspicion. It was indeed true as well that not just one, but two people going missing in this marsh would probably incite some sort of search party, drawing unwanted attention.

"So." He began as he glanced around briefly. "Where do you suppose we start? How deep into the marsh do you think he could have gotten by now based on how long he's been gone? It's a big marsh so narrowing our search would be helpful." He waited, calmly as ever for a reply after this, wondering what this Moogle was thinking about in particular.

"Thank you for your support. I don't expect he went very far. This palce is creepy and smelly. He's probably soemwhere around the outskirts," Tock answered. He didn't much like the thought of dealing with some strange ghost or nercomancer, but the strange person did agree to help. He hoped the creture didn't take offense to his home being called creepy and smelly, but he expected that this was the effect that Montblanc was going for in making his home here of all places.

"...But, I must know... why would you want to call a place like this home? It's mostly disease, filth, is filled with dangerous creatures," Tock asked before resuming his search. He regretted asking the question as the answer couldn't possibly prove good in any matter, but his curiosity had gotten the better of him and his tongue. "I'm sorry if that came out as offensive," Tock added looking down slightly. He did want to come of as rude and cause the creature to either show it's true colors or cease to give help.

(a bit shorter, but quicker thant it would have been otherwise)

"No offense taken." Vega chuckled as he referred so blatantly to his home as disease ridden, smelly, filthy, dangerous, and creepy among other things. Vega knew that this was what most people normally thought of his home of sorts but he didn't really care, it was a natural reaction to such a place really and it wasn't too hard to see that the description was actually quite true.

"As to why I wish to make this place my home however," He began as he looked around. "Hauntwood here is a peaceful place, certainly it's disease ridden and dangerous but it's incredibly nice for solitude and thinking. Now, your description accurately fits it but I don't mind those particular aspects. Simple as that." He returned his gaze to tock briefly before looking back ot his left and right.

"Now, as for that boy, if he's around the outskirts I doubt he'll go too much farther in. Even the Elves don't bother to come to this place too much, it reputation of hauntings and disappearances precedes it too greatly. Of course, some do go into the outskirts but the deeper you go the more...interesting things get. I hope for your sake he's around here." His comment was indeed a questionable one but he made no further remarks, simply waited for Tock to respond with his thoughts and lead the way.
