| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Valen stayed where he was for a moment, waiting for the tail end of their caravan to catch up before taking wing. He crouched low while waiting. That way he could easily launch himself into the air in a moment's notice. After others passed in front of her and Sarro made a cover for her hesitation, she made her way past the entrance and deeper into the cave. Light reflected off the walls from Jarreth's armor, giving the entire place a soft glow and causing the dusting of snow to sparkle light faerie dust. Their footprints showed clearly on the frozen ground of the cavern. About halfway down the tunnel she saw what first looked like a cave-in. As she got closer she saw it wasn't. It was a ice wall and beyond it was an entire assortment of things. It looked like a caravan was on it's way towards them when it got sealed off in this cavern of ice. Ornell shivered slightly as she approached it. "Oh my..." She said, her voice echoing softly off the walls. "This is it. Look!" She turned to point out what she had found to the others, though some may have found it about when she did. There was no people there, at least not living. Many shapes of people could be seen frozen in place though. The wagons looked like they too were frosted over and it seemed to give off the sense of something suspended in time behind glass. |

Jarreth's eyes narrowed as Ornell revealed what she had found. The cave was actually very beautiful, like a clean frost in early winter. Aina'fea's footsteps crunched on the icy floor as they moved, and the glistening flakes reflected small rainbows of light. While the temperature was dropping rapidly, Jarreth was still comfortable and relieved from being out of the sun. Overall, he was washed with a sense of peace, except for the horrifying ice block that Ornell was examining. Jarreth slid off of Aina'fea and gave her a reassuring stroke across her neck before moving beside Ornell to take a closer look. Moving himself closer to the ice helped clarify objects within the block and cast a strange set of shadows back across the rest of the cave. Resting his armored fingers on the ice, Jarreth bowed his head and mentioned, "We did not come all this way for a frozen graveyard, I pray." Jarreth's eyes closed as he pressed more weight on the ice wall. He slowly dropped to a knee and began to pray for the unfortunate souls within the ice. He was becoming chilled in his armor but his prayer warmed him. He hoped that this act may bring peace to those that were now part of the ice. Aina'fea followed suit and bowed her head low, knowing how to behave during times of mourning and ritual. It was a quick prayer, a simple wish that within the block who had travelled the path of good have been ushered to a greater place. Jarreth moved his hand in a holy symbol across his chest before kissing his fingertips and pressing them against the ice. He then started to regain his feet and see if he could find any useful information about the cave or the eerie block of ice. Aina'fea shook her head back and forth, tossing off a thin layer of snow from her mane. The steed still reserved a bad feeling which tugged at the back of Jarreth's mind. |

Ornell pointed out a most peculiar sight. It was an entire caravan and all within a frozen mass, obviously not a natural occurrence. Dragons came to mind first but, this was not the work of any Frosty dragon Rith could think of. Dragons often ate their frozen treats, plus Rith could not conjure to mind any dragon capable of accomplishing a feat such as these were it seemed the very air itself had been frozen. If it was a dragon it also happened to be an accomplished mage. If the being were still around it would doubtlessly pose a large threat to the group. Rith was amused when Jarreth wasted his time bothering to pray for the poor souls. They were dead for some time now and Jarreth’s pray and wishes would not curve the path their souls had traveled. Even the goddess’s avatar with them could only do so much. “Simply fascinating,” Rith mused as Misery moved in to investigate. Rith leaned in close as he examined the block of ice in much the same way he inspected the curious gargoyles. The large bird decided to investigate the frozen wall as well and delivered to swift pecks which seemed to have no effect at all against the wall’s structure. "I do believe you are quite close Jarreth It would seem we instead seek the culprit of this perplexing atrocity I would not doubt that the beast still lingers around," Rith replied as he touched the ice with a gloved hand. The cold failed to bother him as he had long ago acquire a nice artifact that warded even the feeblest of bodies form cold. “If you like Ornell, I could try and divine more of the beast responsible,” Rith offered without looking back or taking his gaze off of the ice. Perhaps this creature’s soul would prove useful if any beast of the cavern did indeed exist. In either case it seemed like events would heat up while the temperature cooled down. |

“That was fast,” Lilith mumbled as she made her way into the icy cave. The frost bite at her bare skin and she wondered why she hadn’t dressed more warmly. Instead she wrapped her feathered wings around her body to provide some insulation, her long hair covered her neck and shoulders, but there was really nothing she could do for her ears and face. When Jarreth knelt down in prayer Lilith raised an eyebrow at him, and stepped by him to examine what “it” was. A large frozen grave it seemed like. She reached out and touched the wall with her hands, her wings receded to give her the room for the movement. How incredibly beautiful. People preserved in the prime of life forever. They still had their hair, fingernails, so perfectly set up. A world without Age and Decay. How… perfect. She stood looking at it for long moments. Who could have done this? Someone who knew how to really preserve beauty perhaps. Flowers wilted. Stars faded. This… would last lifetimes. “How… wonderful. How creative.” Then other thoughts crossed her mind. Wasn’t she promised treasure? She supposed this could be called “treasure” to historians and those hungry for knowledge. But she was not hungry enough to call this a treasure. Treasure sparkled and shined, and fetched a nice price in the markets. Now would the culprit flee the scene or stay to admire his work. “If I was the one who did this I would live in the middle so I could see the beauty of this perfect world every time I woke. Look at how…” She just dropped her hands from the ice and sighed content. “Preserved forever in youth and beauty.” Of course in her own mind there were no elderly or ugly frozen within the ice. |

Ornell looked to Jarreth as he spoke and as he knelt to pray for those, she too dipped her head and waited for him to finish, not willing to interrupt. Before she could speak, Sarro asked if he should seek out the beast who had done this. She gave a soft smile. “The way the story goes, at least what I was able to find of it, was that this was once a pass. This lead to a place outside of Imythess. That was hundreds of years ago, as so many have forgotten it. This is a caravan bound for Istan and in it are many treasures meant for the people of Imythess. We are here to open the pass once more and recover this caravan frozen in time. If they are dead, they deserve a proper resting place and the goods should get where they were going. As payment for your help, you will get your pick from the recovered goods.” She shifted her gaze to Sarro and said, “If you don’t mind Sarro, that would be helpful. I’m fairly sure it was no beast though, but a man who did this.” With that, she stepped back with one foot, angling herself in such a way that she wouldn’t harm those with her, and caught her hands on fire. She held them to the ice barrier before her. The surface glossed over, becoming perfectly clear, but seemed unwilling to melt. She took a step sideways and the place she had left froze instantly. Seeing that she wasn’t getting anywhere, the fire died and she frowned. “It’s magic. I can’t melt it...” She was more then a bit shocked by this. After all, she was the Avatar of the Goddess of Fire… While Ornell came to terms with that odd fact, there was a soft sound behind them, the shifting of snow the sound of footfalls. She didn’t take notice because there were other members who had not shown this deep yet. Blocking the only way out now stood three of the gargoyles made of ice. Behind them were more. They were lining up like an army lines up for battle, blocking all the space in the passage as even more gathered behind them, cutting their party in two. Ornell, Jarreth and his steed, Sorro (Rith), and Lilith were all on this side. Everyone else was on the other side of the force. |

Tumnus walked about waiting for something to happen. The sudden burst of fire from Rune's hands was a little scary, being a troll fire was not his best friend. However, Tumnus would have to over come that fear sooner or later if he wanted to become a true warrior. He moved about a little bit more before looking at the group that was assembled. Many looked incredibly powerful, many times Tumnus power and he doubted that he would even survive for a moment in a fight with any of them. Luckily, they were on his side so all was well. "So what are we doing?" Tumnus question as he moved about looking for something to do. He was rather impatient as the cold was even begining to affect his thick hide and he would never allow a fire to warm him up. Tumnus unquenched his hands, allowing blood to flow through his arms once again. He was rather nervous as rumors of having to fight a dragon had sprung up. Dragons usually had a weapon of great fire which would probably utterly destroy the young troll. Not that he would shy away from the upcoming challenge but Tumnus doubted he would be much help if the dragon was able to summon magical fires. Hopefully, the dragon would go along with the theme of ice and have a breath of ice. While still deadly, Tumnus would much rather have to fight ice than fire. |

Lilith's view was quite quaint, but upon further investigation she was right about the victims at least, though it was doubtful she was also correct on the culprit. Time itself stood still, locked away from the ever changing present. Which meant that the victims trapped inside would do a much better job explaining what happened than first thought. "It would seem Lady LeMonte's assumption was closest of all. It is not air nor space that is frozen before us, but time itself. That is why you can not melt it. The curse is quite unusual, yet easily dealt with," Rith explained. Misery caught sight of the intruders and alerted Rith with a mere thought. Fighting with one's back against the was certainly not a comforting idea, not that he intended to do much of the fighting anyways. He would even have to avoid using his signature summons. Thankfully the three beside him were likely more than enough to handle the three gargoyles. "I can tend to the ice and get us a little more room, if you can handle those living works of art behind us. Such a pity to see art destroyed, but it certainly beats the alternative," Rith mused before focusing on the spell. It was doubtful, but there could be help waiting for them caravan, though that was not what Rith was counting on. An aura of blue flame surrounded Rith's hands as he pressed them against the ice. No warmth came from the flame, only anti-magic set on end of the icy stasis. If things got bit overwhelming for his temporary companions he could always have Misery pitch in her share and perhaps call for some aid as well. Given the numbers of their foes, that might be needed. It was most doubtful, yet it would be most amusing to see the avatar of blazing fire be overwhelmed by constructs of ice. |

Soote refused to cooperate even as he approached the cave. He veered side to side, taking breaks even to simply sniff at a stone before continuing on his weaving path. The lumbering reptile was as strong headed as he was oversized. Solara, although at the peak of her annoyance, could not help but find amusement as Soote poked through piles of rocks and small bushes. After all, the giant was still a baby. She looked on him with what felt like motherly love, although she did not understand the feeling in that way. She just watched with a special grin while she threw her weight into the reigns and tried her best to steer him in the right direction. She slid from Soote's back as she finally found a decent spot cleared of loose pebbles and sharp twigs. She had been eyeing the cavern and knew that Soote would have no hope of navigating the cave beyond. She would not even try. Instead, she occupied herself with tying the reigns to some large columns of rock that did not seem to want to topple when she pushed her body against them. She only hoped that Soote would get the idea that he should stay where she left him. She knew he could snap his restraints if he wanted to disobey and chase another grasshopper. She rolled her eyes as she remembered the chaos Soote caused on the path when he saw one of those jumping insects. Solara took some time to pat Soote and calm him. She had not left him alone for the journey and she did not want him to become upset when she walked into the darkness of the cave. She could already feel the cold air pushing at her, yet one more reason why she was not in a hurry to enter. Besides, she could hear the faint sounds of speaking echo outward from the mouth of the mountain. Jarreth was still nearby, as well as the rest of the caravan, some of those still with her outside the cave enterance. She took a moment to drink deeply from a waterskin as she closed her eyes and enjoyed the feeling of liquid pouring down her parched throat. She was fading away to a better place, enjoying the mix of cool air with warm sun and quenching taste of the water, until Soote made a sudden jerk and bumped her arm. Solara looked to Soote in confusion and then followed his eyes toward the cave. She screamed. "Jarreth!" Soote had never heard Solara sound so horrified in his entire, nascent life. He shifted and moved toward Solara, as though he wanted to protect her. Solara was too scared to notice. She tried to reach for her staff, her only weapon, but could not find it. It had been moved and she only felt the thick fabric that covered something that had been with her, seen by only herself and two others. Solara grabbed at the fabric and pulled it away from Soote, fumbling with the covers and fighting her fear that threatened to make her freeze. |

Jarreth caught himself staring into a small ice crystal that was reflecting the light from his armor into a small rainbow of light. It was strangely beautiful even though it was part of the same ugly truth that kept the caravan frozen. Jarreth did not listen to the conversation about the stoppage of time. He preferred to keep his simple belief that it was a large block of ice. That was easier for him to wrap his head around. The concept that halted time could appear to the world as a solid wall was too abstract for him, especially after the heat exposure. He just took in the fact that Ornell would be unable to help melt the poor souls trapped inside. Jarreth half listened to the efforts being made to press further into the cave as he debated his own actions to come. The knight started to look up from the crystal to Sorro as he mentioned destroying the art, not fully comprehending what he had meant by the statement. Then he heard Solara's scream. The former Cavalry Commander of the Legion of White Souls reached for his blade as he would his knife when he startled awake from a nightmare. Talon rang clean into the crisp air as Jarreth's eyes made out the shapes of the gargoyles. Talon did not glisten with gleaming brilliance. It remained cold, hard metal, waiting to clash with whatever met its path. Jarreth had been too distracted by Solara to awake the sleeping enchantment. Aina'fea whinnied loudly, echoing the noise off of the walls. She too readied herself for combat. Jarreth knew she would help him clear a path if he could not. "Solara, I'm coming!" Jarreth shouted, hoping his voice would carry over the growing army. He had grown close to her, closer than he had even realized, and this was the first time he had to face the fact that he may not always be there to protect her. He pointed the tip of Talon into the heart of the growing mass of ice that blocked the exit of the cave. He settled his helmet on his head and glared at the creatures with anger glowing in his eyes. "Clear this path and show that you mean no harm," Jarreth commanded, "Unless you are to face your end as quickly as you have appeared." |

Auron trudged through the snowy path, not a sound coming from him, despite the snow crunching underfoot, silenced by the properties of his vest and boots as sound dampers. Over the lowest third of his vest he wore his leather girdle-like belt over a red cloth. Between the two layers were three dagger sheaths, ready to go whenever needed. His clothing held several nearly-invisible slits, actually reinforced pockets, sheaths for miniature daggers. The inside of both boots held a long stiletto sheath each, both occupied. Altogether he appeared unarmed, none of his weapons visible. Even his Katana was inside the small, fist-and-a-half sized at his hip. He walked on, shivering and rubbing at the goosebumps on his bare arms. The assassin shook a layer of frost from his hair as he came into view of a cave, several people on the outside, facing what appeared to be a small army of ice statues, gargoyles by the looks of it. Frowning, Auron whistled quietly. From above poked a brown-gray head, kit's brown eyes looking down at him. Auron nodded, pointing at the cave. The fox rushed off, sneaking into the ice statue's lines and into the cave, observing the people inside from between the legs of a statue, not recognizing that it was alive. Back on the path, Auron's eyes unglazed as he came back to his own line of sight, frowning. He had been observing what the fox saw. His amber eyes gleamed as he muttered a few inaudible words and flicked his wrist, eyes darting to a particular spot at the edge of the cave mouth. His form disappeared, appearing quietly where he had looked. His eyes glazed as he shifted his gaze to Kit's eyes, casting the quick spell once more. In a second he stood inside the cave, behind the lines of gargoyles, near Ornell. Auron walked closer to her, admiring the wall of ice as he did so. “Ornell, I presume.” He said, bowing his head. “I've been following from istan. I wish to help.” He smiled a little, out of place in the situation. “If you'd have me.” He raised his head. “What are these?” |
