Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The lake was still in the morning, the sun casting little light through the trees, being low in the sky still. A light breeze drifted among the trees, disturbing leaves here and there, otherwise leaving no sound or trace it had ever been there. Among the woods, a lone figure strolled along, taking in his surroundings. This would be a good place to call home, he decided, having just arrived in this land a few days ago, avoiding the cities and larger towns. He was wary of people, especially large crowds of people, not trusting them anymore.

He came upon the lake suddenly, and stopped in his tracks. He then smiled, and lowered the hood of his cloak, revealing his face to the woods. His deep brown eyes scanned the surface of the lake, and found nothing out of the ordinary. He ran a hand through his shaggy mane of brown hair, arranging it so that no hair interrupted his iew, otherwise he let it hang naturally to his shoulders. He went to the water's edge and knelt down, looking at his reflection in the water.

As Sanvaer walked down the banks of the lake, he began to sing. "Who knows how long I've loved you?" Ae he passed through the thinly placed trees, he saw a figure, and continued to sing, to try and create a sense of security. "You know I love you still." He sat down, maybe a good ten yards from the man, who seemed to not have noticed him. "Will I wait a lonely lifetime? If you want me to, I will.
For if I ever saw you, I didn't catch your name but it never really mattered I will always feel the same. Love you forever and forever, love you with all my heart. Love you whenever we're together, love you when we're apart." He had crept forward, and had his dagger out, ready for a downward thrust.

"He who looks at himself does not see the dagger coming." He said, bringing it up, and swinging it downwards. Strange. The man seemed to be a human, except for the small fact that his ears looked a tad pointed. No, could he be an elf? Killing an elf would get him demoted. That would not be good, slightly disappointed, he pulled the dagger away, the point a hairsbreadth away from sinking into the slightly darker toned skin of the elf.

As he watched his reflection, he began to think about the past few weeks, and the events that had occured, changing his life in ways he had never expected. He supposed it was all for the better though, since he had never been too close to others at home anyways. Then he realized that there was someone else there, from the singing. But he ignored the other person, even when he heard him talk about the dagger. If he was to die now, it was his time, he would not fight it. Death was only a stage of life, to him.

But death never came. He turned his head slightly, so he could see the other man standing over him. "Yes, but he who looks at himself also discovers his inner evils. As for the dagger, death comes to us all, whether brought on by another or through age, or accident even." He then rolled to the side, avoiding the dagger point, then stood and looked at the human before him. Taller, as most humans were, and heavier, too, but that was also normal. "So then, what stopped you from plunging your dagger into the back of my neck when you had the opportunity?"

Sanvaer smiled at the small elf, and said, in his usual cryptic way, "The Mistress of the Shadows has a decree. The elves who are her..." At his he paused. What could he say, to avoid scaring the elf? Not slaves, for they were not, and not livestock, as they were, but, maybe something more ambiguous. Like, property. "Who are her property, are to be kept safe." Sanvaer shook his head, and said, "The Raven Mother will take care of you individually." At this, he was slightly dissapointed. He quite enjoyed "taking care" of others. By which he meant, silencing, to do such things.

He smiled, and said, "You would do good for the Raven Mother. You should conside joining her ranks." This was truly a good recruit. He would be promoted very quickly, that is, if he posessed the murderous instinct required. He seemed to have something, the correct mindset, but would it be enough? He realized he was still weilding the dagger, and slipped in back into the hidden sheath on the inside of his tunic. He sat down, and passed a hand through the water, grabbing handfuls of mud, and releasing them back to the depths. His head shot up, and his dry hand flew to his dagger, when he heard a sound from behind him.

He frowned when the man called him property. He was no one's property, no matter who they thought they were. Slavery was a vile thing to him, servitude should be a chosen affair. Unfortunately he realized that that was not how the world worked. But he had never heard of the Raven Mother before. So how could she own anyone? Mistress of Shadows? He was slightly confused, but perhaps he could learn more from this human about her. Especially since he seemed to be offering a job of some sort.

"Well, while your offer does sound most intrigueing, I must insist that you explain a few things to me before I make my final decision. First off, who is this Mistress of Shadows, this Raven Mother? Also, what is the job description? What would I be asked to do? I can't exactly go off and do something without knowing what I'm supposed to be doing, now can I?" He watched the human go over and start playing with the water and the mud, then heard a noise. He turned his head to search the noise out.

Sanvaer laughed, loud, and hard. Then, slowly stopping, he said, "You truly know nothing of the Raven Mother?" Wiping his look of disbelief away, he straightened up, and said, "The Raven Mother and the Mistress are one and the same." When asked about the "job description", he showed signs of doubt, and said, "There is but one requirement. We are her assassins. When he kill in her name, she rewards us, for we are the Angels of Death. We kill those who seek to flee from her embrace."

He spread his arms wide, facing the thick foliage, and said, "She is the One. She is mortal, yet immortal. She is the Lord of All." He leaned forward to the elf, and said, "She is the Destroyer of Worlds." He danced away, and began to chant. He spoke in a long dead language, strangely similar to that which is spoken by the men deep within the desert. He stopped suddenly, and said, "She is the Allseeing. She is the omnipotent one. She sees this as we speak by the deep waters of this pristine lake, where the huge fish swims at its murky depths, the fish who swallowed the moon reflected on the water."

He frowned at the description of the Raven Mother, but said nothing. He decided that the human was just a little insane, but then, weren't they all? They all hurried around to finish things, when they should take more time and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. However, killing was a bit more interesting. He had of course killed in his homeland, which was part of why he had left in the first place, but he had hoped to get away from that here. It appeared however that it was not going to happen though, and killing would remain in his life no matter what.

"Sounds interesting enough. However, who are the targets the the Raven Mother chooses? Anyone of importance, or great significance, or just lowlifes and scum? Or in between, perhaps? Those who run the show behind the scenes? And how are the assassinations to be carried out, with bravado and glory, or silence and whispers?"

Sanvaer scowled when the elf frowned. How dare he think badly of himself and the Mistress? What nerve he has. If only he would be allowed to sink his dagger into him. Such sweet relish he would take, but alas, he would have to wait to be ordered. He held his dagger tightly, and looked at him when he asked for who would be killed, how would they be chosen, and how they would be killed. He took a breath, at that very moment, his pride in his line of work slowly lowering. "We do not know how they are chosen. Some people think he throws a dagger at a name stuck to the wall to choose who dies. Others think that she takes orders from a higher being. However, that brings the question, who is that person, and how does he choose the victims?"

He took a breath, and continued. "Personally, I prefer the idea that she chooses them randomly. For there to be another person stronger than her, that would insinuate that there would be more are powerful, and more powerful than her. To the second part of your question, we target all people, men, women, old, young, sick, healthy, rich, poor. We do as she asks. To answer your final question, She doesn't mind how we do the deed, as long as she is not implicated. She prefers to be rumored to be the culprit, or the mastermind behind it, not the prime suspect." He turned, flinging the dagger, and catching a thin, sweaty man, whose jacket sleeve was pinned to the trunk of a particularily large oak tree. Sanvaer sighed, and said, "Not again, Kai. You need to stop spying on me."

He smiled slightly when the man explained his lack of knowledge of how the victims were chosen. Or who they were, or for what purpose. For all this man knew, he could be killing people of his own order, and he would have no knowledge of it, as long as the Raven Mother commanded, he would do as she said. Quite the submissive one, he was. But it did sound slightly interesting. He might learn something more of this Raven Mother's motives if he joined. What better way to learn, than to do?

He noticed that the man had thrown his dagger, and caught someone's sleeve with it. "Well, who do we have here?" He looked at the thin man, wondering what he was doing here.

The thin man, going into his mid-age, was shaking, and trying to free his tweed tunic from the dagger's blade. He was strangely tall, thin and lanky. The man wore a thin tweed jacket, over an equally thin gray tunic, made of linen. The man wore a strange hat, a hat like a upturned paper boat, made of gray wool, and a dark blue feather stuck into the side. "P-please! Don't hurt me!" Sanvaer laughed, and the man breathed a sigh of relief. Sanvaer smiled, and threw a punch, knocking the hat from the Kai's head. "Hey! That was my good hat!" Sanvaer laughed, and said, "Well, you shouldn't have came here in your "best hat"." He lifted a foot, and stomped the hat into the dust.

The man yelled, and said, with obvious rage, despite his vulnerable position. "Hey! You didn't need to do that! Just because I am spying on you, doesn't mean you can crush jmy good hat!" Sanvaer drew back his fist, and threw a punch that expelled a tooth from Kkai's mouth. "Oh be silent. If you really cared, you would have hit me. You would just buy another one, or beg your "master" to buy your one." At this, the man protested, "Hey! That is not true! I have more dignity than that! And why did you have to hit me, again?" Sanvaer laughed, and said, "Of course I can! As long as you keep stalking me, I can do anything I want!"

Phidawi smiled slightly at the confrontation before him. It was quite amusing to watch this man be bullied on by his acquaintance. He wondered why this man was spying though, but decided perhaps it would be best not to ask. He looked at the lake momentarily while the two conversed, wondering what else was hiding in the shadows. Who knew these days what was lurking behind the corner. He figured it was perhaps best not to worry over it too much though, since worrying was likely to just make him paranoid.

He looked back at the two men, wondering how they knew each other. "If you don't mind me asking, who exactly is this man. Kai, did you say? How are you two acquainted?" If nothing else, it might give him more insight into this Raven Mother that the first was so adamant about.

((OOC: Sorry about being so late with posting.))

Sanvaer looked back at the elf, and looked slightly peeved at his question, as if it annoyed him that he had to relive his meeting of Kai, in a way. "Well," He said, his hand on the pommel of the elaborately decorated shortsword, Fuluina, that he kept in its sheath, parallel to his right leg. "I found this moron," At this, Kai gave a word of protest, which was ignored by Sanvaer, who continued. "As I was saying, I found this moron kissing the rear of the Lord Knight General of the Joint Forces of the Black Mistress, a eldritch by the name of Aera Lyrandi. God knows why, maybe because he saw her as an easy way of getting promoted, or was just being ruled by his loins." At this, Kai let out a loud yell, shouting, "Hey!", and throwing a punch, which Sanvaer easily dodged, throwing one of his own that collided into his abdomen, sending him crashing back into the tree.

"Now, where was I? Oh yes, his butt-kissing of Aera. Anywho, when he had persuaded, in his own little way, for her to promoted him to the rank of General, he became her own little pet, if you will. The Raven Mistress sent me to kill a dear friend of Aera, and she sent his pathetic excuse for a warrior, to stop me." Sanvaer laughed, and continued. "As you can imagine, this didn't stop me. I did the job, and lied to Aera, telling her that he had kept her friend safe. Eventually, she found out, and she had him arrested." Sanvaer took a breath, a smile creeping in on his face. "Would you care to know the rest?" He laughed, out loud, ignoring the anger strewn across Kai's face.
