Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Eliel walked through the forest at a casual pace. Gwen skulked off in the shadows, watching him carefully as well as her surroundings. It was amazing what that cat saw. Between three types of vision, she could see nearly anything in her surroundings. Perhaps, if he found a spell to boost her intelligence, she could see everything around herself.

A rustling sound came from the bushes opposite Eliel. He turned to look at it and his hand flew behind his back, popped the strap there, and caught Lan de Yue Jia sliding from it's sheath. He aimed it at the bushed and shouted a word in elven.

A jet of whitish light shot from the blade's tip and soared into the bushes. A top of a cage made of light shone beyond the brush. Eliel kept his sword out and waded into the bushes, looking down. A rat. He cursed and let the cage fade away, nudging the thing. It scurried off into the brush. Eliel sighed and returned to the trail defeated.

He was hunting for some of the big spiders, people were paying a fair price for spider heads. They wanted them out so they could expand.

Aether Draka, always curious, had discovered a part of the forest she had never been in before. To her mind, that meant exploring was due! She had started off fairly well, but it didn't seem there was many things really moving about. Sure the forest was dark, but not like around Balefire. It had bugs and such, not that that ever bothered her, but over all, it was a bit boring so far. A few small animals and such, but nothing too big. Not very many birds at all and nothing even as large as a rabbit. After walking about for a short time, she got a little board. Sighing softly, she hopped a shallow ditch near a bush, and rounded a large tree with it's roots showing on the surface.

She noticed a path then. She looked down it one way and saw nothing remarkably interesting. As she turned the other way, she came to an abrupt stop, just inches before being made to come to a stop. A shimmering wall was strung between the dark trees. She took a careful step back and realized it was a huge spider web. She blinked at it in surprise and then became worried. If this was the web... where was the spider?!

Eliel looked around, winking at Gwen. They couldn't give up without at least two. Eliel had one's head tied to his belt, bouncing off his leg. Without at least two, it was pointless returning. He spotted a shimmering piece of thread on the ground. He bent down and picked it up. It stuck to his hand slightly. Shaking it off, he followed it.

Eliel followed it for roughly half a mile, stopping for a moment. He sighed and looked around. The thread turned a corner into a thick patch of trees. He stayed away from the part he couldn't see, looking around the corner.

Eliel spotted a glimmering web there, right where he'd have stepped had he continued following it. He sighed and took another step closer. His foot clipped the thread, which appeared to be connected to the whole web. It bounced and Eliel backed off quickly. Too late.

A thick rope of webbing wrapped around his leg, tripping him up. He looked up and spotted the spider whom owned the web. Eliel cursed as it pinned him there, helpless. A drop of poison dripped onto his shirt. He looked to the side, sending a red alert to Gwen.

One of the spider's legs rested on his shirt, pressing lightly.

Aether Draka's gaze shifted around to the trees, looking for something big enough to have made it. She didn't see anything though. Frowning she took a few more steps back and knelt down. Perhaps she should find a good place to get out of sight and throw something at the web to get the spider's attention?

Just as she started to stand up straight once more, she saw the entire web shimmer, then a flicker and a movement off to one side. Not the side she had come from though. Moving carefully, she left the narrow path and ventured past a few smaller webs and spiders to find a large spider. The large spider it looked like. What was it doing? Aether Draka made her way a little closer but once more drew to a halt as she saw another part of the same web covering a good portion of the ground between her and the spider. Then AD saw something else. There was something on the ground. No… Someone! She wasn’t exactly positive, but she thought she recognized the person. If the darn spider would move, she would know for sure. So how could she make the spider move?

Eliel closed his eyes as the spider drew even closer, only half-suspended now. It had three legs on Eliel's chest now, and it's head was uncomfortably close. Eliel looked into it's red eyes with a defiant look. It hissed at him, black spiny fur standing on end. It's jaws opened wide to bite his neck. Eliel sighed. Maybe it hadn't worked out...

with a roar, a huge black form came from the bushes and hit the spider dead-on, knocking the both of them into a roll. Eliel felt a claw sever the webbing on his left hand the claws on his gauntlet slid out and he sliced the other bindings. Eliel turned to face Gwen and the spider. It had almost killed him and he wanted to kill it himself. Gwen understood and backed off. The spider spun to face Eliel.

He drew his scimitar and ran at it, scimitar flashing to take one of it's legs. Sure enough it struck, but it only seemed to make the spider angrier, losing a leg. It's other leg came out and hit his wrist hard. Eliel dropped the blade and ran behind it, empty hand moving behind him, under his cloak. With a pop, a strap flew away and Eliel pulled out the thin elven blade, bringing it up and into the spider, blade held upside-down.

The thing's shell split open, cut abdomen releasing a mixture of ichor and web. Eliel panted and glared at Gwen for waiting so long. Eliel neatly lopped off it's head and picked it up, about the size of a melon. He turned to the path muttering ''worst plan ever.''

He saw ad and smiled, sheathing both blades. Eliel walked up to her. “AD! How wonderful to see you again. I'd shake your hand or hug you, but I'm a bit messy.” He held his arms to his sides, several splotches of ichor on them.

She didn't have to worry about making the spider move then, instead something else made the spider move, a huge cat! She knew it was Eliel then and she debated helping him as he got to his feet, but didn't as she saw him moving about it to attack the spider from behind. She was grinning when he walked up to her and she shook her head.

"Perhaps the two of you should have switched places? Gwen could have pretended to get caught without actually getting caught I bet!" AD said happily, then she gestured at the mess behind him. "Do they normally get that big? And I thought drow liked spiders..." She shrugged, not too sure about it. Her fingers went unconsciously to her bracelet, her nail tapping lightly on the stone in it before both hands dropped to her side. Then something behind him caught her attention. There was an odd little bundle in the tree and she saw it move and twist, then it split open to leave a ragged hole. The black inside of it began to pour forth as many fist sized spiders all poured out in a black spindly wave, smaller threads of webbing following behind the spiders. "Um, Eniel?" She asked and pointed, not sure what to call what she was seeing.

Eliel sighed. “Nah, Gwen's too smart to do it. She had pride issues anyway.” He laughed and tied the spider head to the other one, both of them strung up. He looked at it smiled, deciding it was a good catch.

“And I hate spiders.” He said lowly.

Eliel turned slowly to look at what she was talking about. He cringed as he saw the huge egg, splitting open to let a torrent of spiders come out. He watched each one with darting eyes, feeling a beating in his chest. A couple got very close to him, and he cut them in two, but it was useless. He could feel his heart in his throat, actually feeling a bit scared.

“ Erm... I don't think we can do much unless you have any fire spells...” He said, hand reaching under his cloak and pulling out a wolf pelt. He looked at AD. “Shall we run?” He asked, sweeping the pelt over his shoulders and over his head. The whole thing shifted, fitting him, then seemed to fuse to him, changing his shape.

Eliel now stood a good-sized black wolf with a tuft of white fur on his chest, swatting at spiders.

“Run? You’re joking right?” AD said in surprise. They were just spiders after all. On his suggestion of fire, her hand went to her bag and pulled out her cards. She had really decided she liked the things. It was so much easier to focus with them. She selected the one she wanted and slipped the rest back into the bag on her hip. She noted Eliel’s shift from elf to wolf and felt something in the back of her mind shift into awareness. It found this change in Eliel incredibly interesting for some reason. AD blinked in surprise at it and then focused on her spell. She let the card go as the shadows curled around her and the shadows took it in hand. A black circle appeared on the ground and then it sprang up to engulf the card entirely in darkness. Then a blood red light cracked through and the shadows fell away as her fire elemental came into being. Her first and fastest summons. AD grinned and let her hand tuck a stray maroon braid back behind her ear. Her levitation took effect and she picked her feet off the ground so the spiders couldn’t scramble up her legs.

“Eliel, Fier.” She said by way of introduction. “Fier, the spiders please.” She said. The elemental looked at Eliel as she introduced it to him and then turned its attention to the spiders. Fire worked rather well against the spiders it seemed. It made a funny popping sound. “Not Gewn!” AD told the elemental, not spotting the big cat, but knowing it would no doubt be willing to help. She didn’t want friends or friends of friends in the line of fire.

Eliel looked at her with a shrug, not completely thinking clearly. He mostly wanted away from the creatures, horrible things. They were the point of worship, they symbolized holiness, cruelty, intricacy, and punishment for his people. Now standing against it all, he hated them. Feared them, even. Eliel crushed one beneath his paw, pulling back to AD's side. He nodded at the elemental and willed the mantle to turn him back. Sure enough, he returned to his black-skinned self.

He tucked the pelt away and pulled out Lan de Yue Jia. Spiders were still coming from the cocoon-like egg. He pointed the blade at it and muttered an elven word. A web of starlight encased it, quickly filling with spiders. Their supply was cut off. Eliel began cutting spiders, catching one that had leapt at him. He crushed it in his gauntlet and tossed the corpse.

Eliel noticed Gwen in the brush and called her back mentally. She complied, moving quickly. The most he could do in a time like this was stand back. He was near useless in a fight like this, swarms of small creatures.

AD looked out at the mess around them at at Eliel. He didn't seem too happy about all of this and she was about to suggest that they get out of her when she felt something tug at the back of her mind. The world seemed to slip away for a moment and her eyes closed on mess before her. Her unholy aura flickered for a moment, then the shadows curled around her for a moment even though she wasn't even on the ground. They faded slowly away as the unholy aura curled around her in full strength. Two tiny things had changed, but only slightly. Her nails were now claws and her almost-fangs were now ones that any hunter would have. Then, she opened her eyes and they were not AD's own. Instead they were deep purple, so dark that they were nearly black. In the dim light of the forest, the lingering purple glow was plain to see.

"Ah, so it will work. Wonderful." A voice said that was both like and unlike AD's own. The tone was the only difference, sharper then AD's own was. her gaze took in the spiders and then the rest. "Spiders is it? Hmm." She rose up both her hands and with the raw power of the darkness summoned the pair of hellhounds from the ground. She let her gaze go to Eliel and Gwen. "Shall we let them take care of the clean up? Touch Gwen and take my hand. I think it's time we get out of the way."

Should he follow her direction, she would activate levitate so that both him and his cat could go above the trees. She wasn't one to run, but she had no problem letting others do the dirty work. They would figure out what they wanted to due once they were out of the way of her summons. Fire worked all too well against the swarms. Especially the fire covered hounds. The spiders turn on the hounds and as soon as they touch... pop!

Eliel watched AD for a moment, a faint feeling of fear entering his mind. He could feel the dark energy pulse from her, Her nails had grown to claws and her teeth had grown to fangs. He frowned as she opened deep purple eyes. He forgot about the spiders for a moment, wondering what had occurred just now.

He shook it away as he watched her summon two hellhounds, the demonic beasts taking out the spiders quickly and efficiently. The spiders seemed to incinerate upon touching the flame. He did not mind the means, it was the end that mattered most to him.

Eliel looked at AD and toughened up. He nodded once. “Very well.” He said, trusting the girl to some degree. He took her hand and place his gauntlet on Gwen's collar.

Eliel waited for her to do whatever she had planned, watching as the starlight shield began to fail. Spiders had stopped coming out of the egg, but now they crawled around the dimming cage. At any moment, they would fall onto the forest floor in a black wave.

As soon as he took her hand, she let the magic flow through them. She had enough magic at her command at the moment that she wasn't worried about it being a waist. She lifted them effortlessly above the trees as the spiders started to move across the forest floor once more. She didn't wish to make them easy targets by only going up into the trees. Spiders could climb after all.

"Take a set. The spell will last longer then the spiders will. If you want down though, it will gladly oblige." She said and took the advise herself. She settled herself in the air and let her gaze shifted to Gwen and back to him. She still held on to his hand though. "How rude of me though. I should introduce myself. I am Aether Draka's Demonic side. First time I've managed to manifest though. An interesting thing, that. Aether Draka considers you a friend, so you needn't fear me." She let his hand go then after a slight bob of her wrist in greeting, leaving him to control the levitate spell on his own.

"Sadly though, I now have to decide what I want to do. First things first would have to be a name for myself. I am different enough from Aether Draka herself to warrant one I think. You wouldn't have any suggestions now, would you? I may not choose to use them though. It is my name after all." She grinned, the fangs showing enough to almost make it a snarl, almost.

Eliel felt slightly panicked as she let go, but found himself floating. He simply accepted it and floated, finding the spell relatively easy to handle. In a moment, he could move again. Unfortunately, Gwen was not as lucky. Her paws moved in the air, trying to gain a foothold. Clearly she was uncomfortable. Eliel smiled before finding himself sinking. The spell was fading, between being separated from the source.

He called on the powers of his cloak, feeling the lightness return to him. Eliel seized Gwen by the collar and turned to face AD, or her dark side. Whatever it was.

Eliel frowned. He had never heard AD's name before. Aether. He nodded to himself, memorizing it. “I have no suggestions. As you said. It is your name.”

She looked at him with those dark purple and eerily glowing eyes for the length of two breaths, exactly, then she rose to her feat as if she had been sitting as was now standing, though there was nothing underneath her... She smoothed down the front of her cloths and looked down at what she was wearing with a slight flicker of what could be called disgust. Then those almost empty eyes met Eliel's.

“You are so incredibly unhelpful. A name speaks of who we were, what we are and who we will be. It is a face to the world and how we become known. If you don't what to know who I am, I guess it shall be your own loss.” She shrugged slightly as one of the trees below them, the one that had held the spider's young, caught on fire. She glanced that way and said in a slightly raised tone. “Don't burn down the forest!” The flames settled into a steady burn and didn't spread beyond that one tree.

She took a deep breath and let her gaze level itself once more on Eliel. “So tell me then, why is it that my dearest Aether Draka even bothers to consider you a friend? Because, personally, I don't see it.”

Eliel looked at the daemon-Aether. “But is not a name also a restriction, something that ties you down to one particular being? A name is a means of identifying and keeping order over a being. One of true power would not find a name for itself, but let each individual find it's own name for it? In the underdark I have heard of a daemon, whom is merely known as fear itself.” He said. “Namelessness is power, Daemon.” He said with a nod.

“Does it matter having a reason to be a friend with someone? Perhaps we are just acquaintances, who find it necessary to continue a 'friendship' to better survive in this world? Allies in a cause unknown, fighting to survive?” He said in a mysterious voice. He shivered. He was beginning to become more and more like his brother.

Eliel looked at the demon full in the eyes, looking at it, trying to connect with it, to gaze upon it's very soul. The drow priestesses were taught in various ways to deal with demons, and Menakay had shown him some tricks.
