Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Melmoth had heard that a champion of good had recently arrived in Kellen, and had succumbed to his demonic impulses to kill it off before it got out of control. Good magic had a way of messing up all his plans.

So, he was hidden beneath the illusion of his past self and searching the streets of Kellen. His aura was masked, Fate by his side, and he was ready and willing to kill.

Bloodlust, so often absent in his cold and calculating personality floated to the top as he neared the main square of Kellen. Bordered on all sides by wooden buildings, it was a perfect place to lay in waiting for this champion. He climbed the steps to the village hall and waited, scanning the crowd for anything suspicious.

(ooc - short and bad, but for old times sake, why not?)

Zero had just arrived in the village of kellen. There was once a time back in the day, where he would come to kellen more often. Usually it was because the village was being blown to hell by a maniac. It seemed calm today. Maybe the village has been at peace for quite some time now. Zero walked around the village hoping to find the tavern.

(haha yeah its a lame post :/)

There. Wandering about aimlessly, rubbernecking like a complete stranger to these parts was the one he'd heard about. So that was Zero. Didn't look like much, but then again, neither did Melmoth. Kellen had changed a bit in the last few years. There was a period a few years back when it was getting burned to the ground every other day it seemed like, but not any more. These days it was quiet.

He'd have to change that.

He hopped down from the raised steps and made his way through the crowd towards the man. He adjusted his illusionary hat again, cursing his ring's accurate projections. The big floppy gray hat was great for shade, but bounced around and damn near fell off all the time. He jammed the thing on, and suddenly was upon his target.

He grabbed at the man's shoulder from behind and leaned close. "Would you happen to be Zero?" He said, a touch of his demonic voice coming through in his words.

Zero walked through the crowds, his blades and everything else he had eqiuped on him seemed to put a lot of weight on him, which made grow tired as easily. He needed a place to lay low at for a while and clean up. He made his way through the crowd when suddenly heard a cool dark voice over his shoulder. Zero stopped in his tracks.

Zero did not look back, but simply replied to the man, or so a man it seemed to be.
"Yes, perhaps I could be Zero." He placed a hand on his scabbard, then grabbed the hilt of his sword, getting ready to draw it out.

Zero finally turned around and looked to see who he was talking to.
"And who might you be?"

Completely awesome. he thought to himself as the awnser to Zero's question. Instead of blurting it out, he smiled his wrinkly old-man smile at him and blew a bit of hair out of his face.

His voice went back to its normal pitch, and he spoke kindly to Zero. "Melmoth the Wanderer, at your service." He batted his cloak away casually and laid his hand on his sword as well, just so he'd know that Melmoth would not be easily scared. "I have heard some rumors of you. Things from your past. Bets on your future. But come, let's talk in the tavern over a pint or two. I would know how much of what i hear was true and what was tale."

Without waiting for a reply, he turned to the left and made for the tavern. Inside there would be lots of ale, perhaps a torch or two, and potential to take Zero down.

Zero was not aware of any rumors out there about him. He decided to keep quiet for now. He was still unsure how Melmoth knew of him. Perhaps he knows more than Zero thought.

Zero followed Melmoth inside the tavern and kept himself distant from the creepy stranger. As he entered the tavern. he noticed how crowded it usualy got and remembered it as how it used to be back then. The place was almost completely filled with drunkards and others enjoying themselves to a few pints here and there.

Zero didnt want to attract any attention towards himself and Melmoth. So he went along back towards the end of the tavern, where no one sat. The two would be almost unnoticeable in the very back of the Green Gryphon, cloaked in the darkness.

They sat at a table next to a wall piled covered by sealed barrels of ale and other drinks tightly secured by an elaborate system of ropes. He assumed the inkeeper thought of it as a second line of defense and probably insulation, but to Melmoth it screamed opportunity. A whole wall of explosives.

"I'll let you in on something. I met a certain vampire a few years ago that I've been keeping in touch with that says he knows you. He alerted me to your return."

A waitress dropped off two mugs of the tavern's finest and disappeared with a wink in Zero's direction. Good guys got all the luck. He shook his head, leaned back with his mug and downed it in one fell swoop, slamming it back onto the table a little bit harder than needed.

"I'd like to know why you're back. Also, what you're planning to accomplish in your time here. Other than that... Tell me of yourself."

This was to unreal to be true! Zero thought he killed off the vampire Zorgn years ago! Perhaps he wasnt so dead after all. Zero was in shock though and couldnt believe what he was hearing from Melmoth. He thought for a second and wondered if this Melmoth was going to delay him of his erands, duties, or whatever business Zero had here in the Village.

Zero watched Melmoth as he took in all that ale in a gulp. He looked like the kind that would qualify as a maniac. Zero paid no attention to his mug, he grabbed his dagger and stabbed it into the wooden table with too much strength causing his mug to tip over spilling his ale onto the floor.

"Are you working for him? I would like some answers! Because my business here is none of your concern! Go back to those dogs you workin' for! If not, Im sure something can be settled right here, right now." It was ridiculous. Still, Zero didnt know what Melmoth really wanted. But surely he wasnt going to go speaking about himself to him.

Melmoth grinned at the suddenly enraged Zero. He had only learned a little about Zero from the vampire, and even less about how the two knew each other, but he had not lied when he said Zero would not take kindly to dropping his name. The two were definitely enemies, and Zero probably wished he could put that dagger in Zorgn's heart.

"I don't work for Zorgn. I do him a favor, he returns it later. That's how it all works."

He neglected to mention that those favors usually involved someone dying in the end. Assassination missons occasionaly, retrievals rarely, prey harvesting for the most part. Usually Zorgn ended them quick, but not always. Screams echoing from underground filled his part of the world.

"I don't plan on leaving untill I know what you're here for. If you'd like to try and make me leave, you're free to try."

He grinned once more and lowered his eyes to his mug. He slowly began doodling with his fingers in the condensed moisture from his drink. He whispered quietly to himself, intent on confusing Zero into thinking him a spellcaster.

Zero didnt want to waste his time on an old fool! He wanted to leave, but then again he also wanted to stay. Perhaps Melmoth had more answers that Zero seeked. Maybe Melmoth knew more of Zorgn's whereabouts.
Zero remained seated and listened to the wanderer. And again, Zero could not take in anymore of his words. "Are you threatening me Melmoth? You are in no position to be making threats to anyone. I have heard enough of your words wanderer!" Zero stood to his feet, and drew out the mighty Angelic Sword of Wounding from its sheath. "Fight me!"

Few of the people in the Green Gryphon took notice of what was happening, others seemed to not pay any attention and went on about their drunken sloppy talk. Zero knew that no one inside the tavern was safe. If he tried to leave the tavern, Melmoth would have tried to stop him, and put everyones lives in terrible risk. The wanderer seemed unpredictable. Zero noticed how Melmoth whispered to himself. But he didnt think much on it.

His ruse did not work, it seemed... Zero was unaffected and uncaring. A pity.

Like lightning, his hand shot out to the wall, and grabbed a torch. He swung it with all his might at the barrels and laughed as it cracked the closest one. The liquid inside exploded, showering flaming bits of barrel about the room and causing the barrels next to it to explode too from flaming fragments piercing to their liquid center. In a chain reaction the entire wall exploded in a firey holocaust that engulfed the Green Gryphon.

The blast had blown out the entire wall and flames were sucked out into the alleyway where they licked at buildings nearby. Inside was worse. Melmoth had caught a great splash of burning ale and screamed for a moment before his illusion shut down and reverted to his demonic form. He couldn't see through the smoke and flames, but hoped Zero had somehow survived and made it away from the flames.

He wanted to tear him limb from limb.

Zero's eyes were like saucers when the place around him blew up. Still gripping his sword firmly, Zero protected his face with his arms blocking any heat and flame. Everything exploded. All the windows were blown out, half people that were in the tavern were dead. Any of the surviving victims pleaded for help because they were severely injured or they hurried quick to make an escape.

Melmoth would soon pay for what he did. These people were innocent. Zero hated to see this happen, and did not tolerate this. Melmoth was going to face the consequences. Zero now looked around. Melmoth was no where to be seen with all the smoke and debris floating in the air. Moments later, Zero noticed a tall beast nearby. Perhaps Melmoth was infused wtih a demon from the abyss. Or Melmoth fled the scene and left Zero here to die with a beast he summoned.

Zero had little time for talk, he wanted to find out what was going on.
He would soon slay the beast and send him back to the abyss.

He stood, abandoning the burning remnants of his chair moments before they fell apart. He was completely on fire from head to foot but it mattered not at all. With his disguise dropped, he was immune to fire in all forms. This pathetic blaze barely tickled.

"How long can you survive in here, Zero? If the flames don't take you, how long before the smoke does you in?" He laughed a laugh like crunching gravel and drew his sword. The flames had already heated it up to branding temperature, and it glowed a dull red along its length. It was unholy and on fire. Very nice.

Perhaps too nice. He didn't want him dead just yet, but to frighten him some, and then kill him. Perhaps capture him for Zorgn's use. He'd gain a long list of favors owed if he delivered Zero to his nemisis. The possibilities...

He swung at Zero through the flames and smoke, not a killing strike, but one meant to warn that the flames and smoke were not his only enemies today. He'd at least let him escape from the flames before they began their duel in earnest. "Run young fool. From me, from Imythess, never stop!"

Melmoth was right. How long could Zero endure in the smoke in flames? Not very long her supposed. He would have to get out quick for his own saftey. Zero looked around to find an escape route, but from the looks of it he had been trapped. "Lets take this fight outside then!" Zero quickly ran out through the fires, finding the quickest way out.

He was almost close to fresh air, he could feel it. He could hear the people outside the fire yelling and screaming. This wasnt going to be a good thing, taking this fight out there with innocent people nearby. He didnt want to put their lives in danger.

Zero made it out of the fire, his face partially blackened with the smoke and heated flames. He yelled to the people of Kellen to leave and run. "Get out! Quick! Leave Kellen, it is not safe here anymore!" Zero fell to his knees, his sword stabbed into the ground holding him up. The villagers quickly moved away from the scene, everyone worried and asking questions to one another. Zero saw the tavern, it was as if nothing were holding the place up anymore. Evrything engulfed in flames now. Soon Melmoth would come out from what once stood as the Green Gryphon.

This time, it was fight till death!

He smiled as Zero made it out in one piece. So much the better. He looked about the tavern for a suitable way out, and was surprised by a sudden creaking noise, followed by the collapse of the roof near the door. Some carpenter had done a bad job there it seemed. A creaking noise above him alerted him to the imminent collapse of his section of the roof, and he dived out the exploded wall into a side street.

He landed hard, but came up fast as the remainder of the building collapsed under the strain. Sparks and flaming debris flew skyward and landed on nearby buildings, spreading the blaze. At this rate, the whole town would be on fire by the end of the day. Not an unpleasant thought to see the city of his birth burn.

Where are you, Zero?

He headed for the front of the demolished tavern, and spied his opponent there. He raised his sword and charged, fully knowing that Zero would block it and counter-attack. But in that attack he would be vulnerable. The tiny leather bracer on his left arm was for more than just show. It could act as a magical shield, and he was certain Zero did not know this. It would work to his advantage to have a surprise block ready.
