Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Laurence walked the streets of the city silently as his trimmed white hair blew in the cool night air. His crimson red eyes scanned the empty streets as he continued to move. He was wearing a white long sleeved tunic which seemed rather well kept. Over the tunic was a dark brown leather vest which was buttoned up. He was also wearing dark brown cotton breeches which were tucked into his black leather field boots. Around his waist was a dark brown leather belt with his long sword resting within its sheath to his lest side.

He let the clean nights air go through his nostrils silently as he continued to walk. He saw a few of the low lives such as thieves and cut purses conversing but they knew well enough not to go after the young Albino. He was already known well enough in this city and they would not dare go after him. He gave them a small glance with his crimson red eyes as they fell silent for a moment. As the wind continued to blow his long flowing black cotton cloak was visible.

The cloak’s hood was down as he continued to walk in the silent night. He turned a few corners as he spotted the stable. Animals were one of his few escapes in this harsh reality and one of the few things in the world that did not show fear in his presence. He entered the stables silently as he saw the lines of horses resting. His hand trailed to the first one he saw as he petted the top if its nose gently. He then reached into his pouch pulling out a few oats as he fed them to the animal. ”Hey there…” He said softly his voice was rather soft and soothing as he continued to pet the horse.

Shadeen crept through the night heading towards the stables. Mykel, her faithful snow leopard, trailed behind her, tail swishing as he kept watch over the young lady. Dante, her cat, trotted along by her heels as Shadeen made her way through the night. She was aware of the dangers but she loved the alone time that the night gave her with, not only herself, but with her beloved animals. The air was brisk, and the trio were in bright spirits despite the criminals that surfaced once the sun dipped below the horizon. Mykel would make sure nothing harmed her, and Dante was just along for the fun.

She wore breeches and a blouse, unlike her usual dress. It was nice to have the amount of movement that these clothes allowed her, and they seemed to keep her warm enough in the night hours. Her sable hair was tied back in a high pony tail that swished against her back with every stride. Her boots clicked on the streets, the two pets behind her moved with no sound at all. Soon the stables came into view and the thought of her beloved horse made a spring come into her step.

”Almost there you two,” Dante meowed at the sound of her voice but Mykel kept his calm demeanour. Finally she was there and she reached out to push on the door. It creaked under the weight but gave way and she slipped inside. She walked down the aisles, her pace even; she already knew exactly where to find Fury. Her pace slowed once his stall came into sight because there was another person standing and petting one of the horses.

“Hi,” She said softly and walked up to the horse in the stall next to his. A golden coloured horse slipped out to nudge at Shadeen happily. He easily found the treat she had hidden in her pocket and she retrieved it for him. “What brings you here?” She turned to face the other person as Fury munched on the carrot.

He continued to pet the horse as he heard another presence. He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath as the black and white horse nudged his face gently with its nose. He then heard the voice of a young woman speak as she greeted him. ”Hello…” He managed to say softly his voice seemed very soft and gentle as he opened his eyes again and continued to pet he horse. He then heard her inquire for why he was here. He remained silent as he turned his head and looked at her.

Laurence blushed light red as he took in a deep breath. She seemed very pretty which made him even more nervous. ”I… Umm well…” He said softly as he took in a deep breath as he continued to pet the horse. He then looked back to the horse again as he looked back to her slowly. ”I like animals and I wanted to pay them a visit… I… I figured that they get lonely during the night with no one to tend to them.” He replied softly as he continued to blush.

He turned his head away slowly as he continued to remain silent. He was not used to being around women or people in general and this situation was socially awkward for him. ”So… I… Umm why are you here?” He asked her still in a polite manner as he continued to gently pet the horse as his hands slowly slid off of the head of the horse. He then felt the horses nose nuzzle his cheek again as he slowly closed his eyes.

Shadeen smiled widely at the young man. Her green eyes sparkled when she realized he was just thinking about the animals. Mykel had come to sit next to her, his yellow eyes watching the man as well. He wasn’t that much of a threat unless provoked, but he was still wary of newcomers. Dante had wandered off into the barn, probably going to play with the mice. Shadeen scratched Mykel’s head as she smiled at the man.

“That’s why I like coming at night,” Shadeen said, referring to the fact that no one was around. “It gives me a chance to spend some time with Fury without the stable hands constantly shooing me away,” She laughed a little and turned back to the horse when he nudged her with his nose. She rubbed his nose then reached up to fix his forelock.

“I came here to see Fury,” She motioned to the horse she was with. “He’s my pride and joy,” She smiled even wider at that and laughed a little again. “I’m Shadeen by the way, and this is Mykel, but don’t worry about him he’s not as mean as he makes himself seem.” She had noticed that he seemed rather nervous around her and she tried to make her voice softer because of it, she didn’t really want people to be nervous around her. "I never got your name," She said to him.

Fury had retreated into his stall and so Shadeen turned and slide down the front of his stall so that she sat on the floor cross-legged. Mykel moved again so that he sat beside her. She ran her fingers through her hair and smiled at the man. His nervousness kind of made her feel as though there were a reason to be nervous, but she tried to shake it off as best she could.

He continued to pet the horse until it finally backed into the stable and slowly began to lay down as well. Laurence then looked back to the woman as he continued to listen to her speak. She did not seem like the others and did not seem to troubled by his appearance. He slowly ran a hand through his white hair as he took in a deep breath. ”My… Name?” He asked as he saw her pets and smiled softly to them they seemed protective yet not to bothered by his presence.

Laurence gathered a little courage as he politely took a step closer to her as they spoke. He then watched her sit down as he stood for a few moments. He then slowly sat down beside her as he managed a meek smile. ”Well… I am Laurence… Laurence Amadill.” He said quietly finally responding to her questin as he looked at her again. His hands were resting at his sides as he looked away slowly and to the wooden wall. He then brushed a strand of hair away from his eyes as he looked back to her slowly.

” It… It is nice to meet you…” He finally added after several moments. He was not used to saying those words but he did not ever forget his manners and since she seemed to be kind she deserved good manners. He then looked down to the ground silently trying to think of what to say. His little sister was sound asleep and he knew she would not awake for another several hours. At least for once he did not need to worry about her safety. He then looked back to her with a soft smile as he allowed his crimson eyes to fall upon her face.

He then remained silent as he looked away again as he let his right hand fall against his cheek as if he is in deep thought. ”I am sorry if I seem intimidating in any way I am a swordsman by trade and…” He managed to say softly as he could not think of a way to complete the sentence. But other then his general presence something about her made him feel comfortable. As if there was a soothing aura of trust about her.

He sat beside her and that made her smile a little more. A few wisps of her hair had come free from the ponytail and she brushed them away as Laurence spoke. She found that he had a nice voice between the stuttering. It made her want to reassure him that she wasn’t a threat and he didn’t have to be nervous around her, she didn’t bite. “Nice to meet you to,” She tilted her head and smiled at him again. “Y’know you don’t have to be so nervous.” She looked across the hallway and at the wall on the other side. When she looked back at him he was looking at her too and she noticed his eyes.

“Wow... Your eyes... They’re red,” Shadeen hadn’t noticed earlier, and she wondered why she had missed that before. But she had never really been looking. They played an odd contrast with his white hair, although not one that was off-putting, more interesting. “Don’t worry. You’re not intimidating, just different,” She paused for a moment. “But... t-that’s not a bad thing,” She said quickly not wanting to offend the man. “Really...” Oh she hoped she hadn’t insulted the man in some way.

“You’re a swordsman?” She pondered it over. She had been practicing more and more with her own sword and she had gotten pretty good, but nowhere near swordsman skills. “Have you ever fought in a war or anything like that?” She was interested in such stories: exciting and full of adventure. She loved the way they made her want to go out and have an adventure of her own. She’d had a few, but she always seemed to long for more, long to get out and explore, find treasure, slay a dragon. It was those stories that put the fire in her heart.

“Have you ever been on any exciting adventure? Daring escapes? Saving princesses? Y’know like that?” Her voice was excited and her smile shone on her face. If he had any of those stories she wanted to hear them. She prayed that her eagerness wouldn’t scare him away.

He smiled softly as she spoke he then listened to what she said about his eyes. He then managed an even wider smile as he remained silent. He then took in a deep breath as he continued to rest his hand on his cheek gently. He listened to her inquire if he had been on any adventures and have done any valiant acts of heroism. He then took in a deep breath as he looked back to her as he began to think. He has done a lot since he had become a wanderer and being a sword for higher he found him self in many of dangerous occasions.

”Well… I have only been on two adventures but they were rather minor. Both of them were escorting nobles or clergy men and when I actually got action we cleared out a Goblin camp who were giving a village some trouble. We being one of my friends but it has been a while since I have seen him. I… Well I mainly work to take care of my sister who is currently sound asleep right now.” He said quietly as he continued to look at her. This time as he talked he made eye contact and remained polite as he took in another deep breath to talk again.

”But… Who knows I may find my self slaying a dragon or rescuing a princess in the future… So… I really do not like talking about my self a lot… But… Have you been on any big adventures?” He asked her softly. He stuttered a lot less as he spoke but his voice still remained soft and soothing. He managed to speak very smoothly and his words sounded very thought out. He then politely moved his hand from his cheek as he cupped both of his hands together gently.

Esher watched as his longtime friend Laurence walked in and started petting the horses. He ran his hand through his hair shaking his head. He then pulled quietly up his cape, which was hanging down a bit from the beam. He was in shock that he was to be reunited with his friend after so many months in his own inn. But this was just too perfect. Esher lay in the rafters waiting for the perfect time to drop down on him. Right before he was about to jump off and say hello, a woman walked in and she started talking to Laurence. Laughter flowed through Eshers mind and though he was somewhat of an impatient man by nature, he found himself content to wait again snickering in his head.

He lay in a cold sweat keeping himself as silent as he could. At last he heard a opportune line to jump in on and lept from the rafters down in front of Laurence back facing him. Esher's heart raced with the jump and his cold sweat turned almost icey as the air rushed by his black tattered hair. "That's ok, I can talk about you enough for the both of us." Esher said landing on his right leg and spinning to face him. "Like that time where you pissed of a noble and got the whole of the guard after you. Or when you fell on the noble we were escorting, a noble distinctly, of the female personage."

Looking at his friend Esher couldn't help but grin. He then intentionally twitched his brow and said "And I suppose we will soon be adding the time you and a girl in the stables OF MY INN! I could have recommended a whole list of my competition's good stables but no, it had to be mine!" He turned the last part of this line to the girl still beaming a wide grin. "And on top of that he doesn't even introduce me. A pleasure to meet you, my name is Esher, the owner of this fine establishment," he said with a bow.

Shadeen had opened her mouth to tell him about her adventures. Slaying that giant worm in the desert with Varonen, facing off against the demon Fehade with Zehavya and Kyrus, or even just wandering the mountainside to practice her sword work. She was slightly proud of her improvement in that field of things; it wouldn’t do to leave herself unprotected wandering around Imythess. She found the most unlikely things seemed to happen here.

However a man dropped down from the rafters and Shadeen rose her eyes to see just where he had been sitting this whole time and how neither of them had noticed in the quite night time activities of the stables. She supposed it wasn’t important in any case since they hadn’t noticed him and he had seen them.

She couldn’t help but giggle at the stories this newcomer seemed to have about Laurence but she didn’t like the fact that he assumed the two of them would end up being a story. It wasn’t as though they were doing anything, and apart from that he should know, assuming he had been watching the two of them. The man turned to her and introduced himself as Esher. Shadeen clambered to her feet. “Name’s Shadeen. Pleasure’s all mine,” She issued a bow back to him as well before she returned to her place on the floor where she had been.

“So… How do you two know each other?” Shadeen realized she had just been put on the outside because of the fact the two knew each other. It didn’t exactly bother her… that wasn’t the right word for it at all; it was just knowledge that she would be the outsider on their jokes and stories. It would take time to get used to them, get “accepted” in a way into their group dynamics. She had time though. Time enough to spare for making a few new friends.

He gulped as Esher let out the embarrassing stories about him. He opened his mouth to say something but Shadeen spoke. He then remained silent as he could not help but smile as he listened for the silence. ”Esher and I go way back…” He managed to say softly as he slowly stood up as he walked toward Esher slowly. ”Speaking of story’s Esher how about that time when you stole that rather nice necklace from the Duke’s daughter from the other town? But instead of successfully taking it you got spotted by a group of guards and somehow got me involved. Next thing I know we had a mob chasing us out of the village. Other then that how are you my old friend?” He asked softly as he could not help but give Esher a quick embrace as he let go after several seconds and took a step back.

Laurence then looked back to Shadeen as he slowly backed away as he sat back down. ”Esher and I have known each other since we were kids. He was the friend I mentioned about my adventures. We adventured a lot together until someone decided to disappear.” He said rather calmly as he shot Esher a quick yet non threatening glare. But due to seeing his old friend again made his day even better. It was very hard to wipe the smile off of Laurence’s face as he took in a deep breath as he rested his head against the stalls door and closed his eyes.

He then remained silent again as he glanced back to Esher. He had many questions to ask him but now was not the time. ”Besides Esher my little sister has been bugging me about you. She finds your antics rather funny.” He added softly as he pictured all the interesting events he and Esher has been through. Or all the events Laurence and his sister had witnessed Esher go through. A lot of them were rather funny but had to end with Laurence assisting in bailing Esher out of a spot of trouble. He then looked back to Shadeen as he managed a soft smile. ”So do you have any specific groups of people he travel with?” He asked her as he glanced back to Esher.

Esher listened as his many past exploits were recounted, commenting on each one.

”Speaking of story’s Esher how about that time when you stole that rather nice necklace from the Duke’s daughter from the other town?”

"Well, yeah, but I was thirteen and it was for my girlfriend." Esher said as a smile crested his face.

”But instead of successfully taking it you got spotted by a group of guards and somehow got me involved. Next thing I know we had a mob chasing us out of the village.”

"Good times." Esher said, his smile ever brawdening.

”Other then that how are you my old friend?”

"Well enough friend, well enough, but all in good time."

”We adventured a lot together until someone decided to disappear.”

"Decided? Hardly, it was no choice of mine, I just had to... Still, seems like you did well enough." The grin faded ever so slightly as he spoke and to a very keen ear one might have noticed that the inflections of his voice were the slightest bit off as he dug his nails covertly into his side to keep a straight face as he spoke.

”Besides Esher my little sister has been bugging me about you. She finds your antics rather funny.”

"And I want to see that little knee high too, I have a gift for her, well, both of you actually."

”So do you have any specific groups of people he travel with?”

Esher shifted his weight and shot Laurence a look hoping to emberis him further and then looked to the woman. "Sounds like my friend just invited you to travel with us, and more over told me to uproot and travel with him." Esher chuckled and mused wondering how she'd reply.

Shadeen sat laughing lightly as the two men bantered over their own adventures they had been on. Shadeen smiled happily and just let the two go at it, she didn’t have much to say to either since the two had seemed to fall into easy conversation that she didn’t want to disrupt. Shadeen didn’t exactly feel uncomfortable either, it seemed as though they involved her in a way even though she said nothing. It was as though they allowed her a glimpse of their friendship.

“Oh me?” Shadeen was startled that they had addressed her. “Oh I just travel with who ever really. Friends I guess.” She smiled a little. Esher spoke then and Shadeen laughed once more, finding that she had fallen into an easy conversation with both of them. “And you wouldn’t be willing to uproot for a little adventure? I’m sure someone could look after your things.” She teased lightly and smiled over at Laurence.

“If you’re looking for adventure I’m in.” Shadeen smiled, even though she knew that wasn’t exactly what he had asked but Esher had seemed to force that issue on both of them. She didn’t even mind either.
