| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

She knew he was going to take the book back, so that had no effect on her. The frown, however, made her spirits sink a little bit. He probably wasn’t going to forgive her, but even if that was the case, she just had to say this. It didn’t matter if he didn’t accept her apology, though she would be quite upset if he didn’t, but she just had to tell him anyway. To stay silent would make his words of her being exactly like the others true, and that above all else was probably the farthest thing from the truth he had written all night. As she continued with her little speech though, she noticed him smile, which obviously meant she was doing something right. His beautiful smile only widened by the time she finished, causing the corners of her own mouth to turn upward a little bit. Kaiden put his book to the side of him, which confused her slightly, but the action was fully explained when he hugged her. Cordelia was shocked that her speech had worked, since telling the truth didn’t always get her out of trouble. Her smile widened and she wrapped her arms around Kaiden to return the hug, laughing joyfully when he poked her nose. She let her arms fall back in front of her, but her smile refused to fade. She hadn’t let go this time, and it had really paid off. Maybe telling the truth once in a while wouldn’t be so bad, though of course she wouldn’t have any choice but to never lie to Kaiden again. From this point on, she was going to completely respect, protect, and take care of this little boy and give him anything he wanted, even if it wasn’t exactly in her power to give it to him. Losing him because of her own actions would be absolutely heartbreaking, and out of the fear of him leaving her she would have to do it, and frankly she didn’t want it any other way. He proceeded to pick the book up once more and write in it. Once showed, Cordelia’s eyes widened significantly. That did not sound like the Manic she knew. The Manic she knew went out assassinating people, setting houses on fire, killing people who owed him money, wanting golden stars and flesh… he was truly a disturbing man, hence why she didn’t want Kaiden to be near him. Not only was there the threat that Manic might hurt him, but she certainly didn’t want Manic to corrupt him, either. If Manic ever did anything, and she did mean anything, to hurt that child she would kill him with her bare hands. But, considering how nice Manic had been to him, however out of character it seemed, she would give him the benefit of the doubt that he wouldn’t do that. “Well, then I’m sorry for saying such mean things about him,” she told him. “He just wasn’t very nice to me. But I won’t say a single solitary bad word about him anymore.” Using her thumb, index, and middle finger she made a motion that looked like she was locking her lips shut, before she flicked her fingers open like she was throwing away the key. It was hopefully an amusing gesture. “Bullies, keep away, and everyone lies to me, understand?… You’re not like them, you stayed.” Cordelia almost felt her eyes become moist when she red that. Oh, she was never going to lie to him again, never ever ever! She wasn’t like Calvin or Manic, or anyone else this kid had met. She was going to take care of him the right way, make sure he had fun, teach him tons of interesting and cool stuff, and not even once contemplate abandoning him… no, she certainly wasn’t like anyone else. Seeing that precious tiny smile again made Cordelia realize she was getting way too attached, but really, she didn’t care. This kid needed someone to take care of him and she had a void in her heart that he was slowly beginning to fill. “I’ll never be like them,” she assured him with a brief nod. “I promise.” “We all have personal things…That’s why I didn’t like you talking to Calvin.” “And I won’t go behind your back ever again,” she said quickly after reading that. She would let him tell her what he wanted to tell her when he was ready to do that. He wasn’t going to get any information about her life before she was ready to tell him and it was relevant, and even though it was going to be hard to try and not get any information she would need or want, she had to respect Kaiden’s wishes. He was respecting hers, so she would return the favor. The next statement written on the paper was entirely true and she didn’t disagree with it at all, but the words didn’t catch her attention very much – instead, it was the tattoo that caught her eye. She recalled Calvin mentioning it having something to do with the dark arts, but no one really understanding what it meant. If she asked around enough she could probably find out herself, but she had to remind herself what she had just thought. If Kaiden hadn’t told her, then there was a reason, and she wouldn’t pry until she thought the time was right for her to know or until he told her. Until then, she would just have to not think about it, because Kaiden himself was more important to her than some silly little tattoo. “Are we ready?” Bouncing up, Cordelia grinned down at Kaiden and stretched out her hand for him to take. “Yeah, of course!” she told him, that grin still staying on her face. “If you don’t wanna walk all that way or if you’re tired, I could carry ya, but if you’re up for the exercise then you can still walk.” So maybe she was being a bit overly nice, but it was better than her being unnecessarily rude. |

When he looked at her, he took a mental note of her looking at the tattoo on his hand, perhaps he would tell her at a later date about it when it would prove important. Granted, there wasn’t much he knew about it other than simply folklore and rumors, but it was still probably more than she or anyone else knew about it. The sound of her voice took his attention away from the tattoo and back at the matter at hand, a questioning look would soon take upon his soft countenance at the mentioning of carrying. What did she mean by that…? It wasn’t like he was a sack of potatoes, but it wasn’t like he really knew what she meant anyway, so it could have been something entirely different. No one really treated him special in any manner; parents weren’t something that proved a high played part in his life, so the concept truly escaped him. Regardless of what she meant, the offer did sound kind of good unless he was correct in the whole sack of potato thing. The thought of being carried over another’s shoulder seemed…Unpleasant to say the least and quite uncomfortable. Lifting a hand up to his mouth, it would stifle an oncoming yawn as his mouth stretched agape to allow the slow intake of air, releasing it all in a short burst right before it closed. Sleeplessness was beginning to catch up with him through all the nights he stayed awake instead of sleeping, worrying that someone may try to harm him during his slumbering hours. It was one of the things that seemed to bother him though…The fact that there was absolutely no need to eat, but sleeping was one of them. Deciding not to think on it any further than a simple regard, the soft hues of his eyes would shift up to her for a brief moment, only to take up her hand within his, while the other shifted the book to rest against his side, the digits of it curling around the spine of the book to keep it held firmly at its place. Pushing off from his right foot, he would lead the way out of the alleyway and off into the general direction they were heading previously. By now there seemed to be a bounce in his step, as if for once he was finally happy with the way things were going in his life. How long that would last would remain to be seen, but for once tonight the woman seemed genuine and it made him extremely happy to know that she wasn’t like the rest. That she wasn’t just trying to get something from him, to use him, or anything else. Again a yawn escaped his mouth, causing his eyes to water and to soon bring him to a faltering stop. Using the back of the hand, which held Cordelia’s own he would wipe his eyes briefly, before lowering his and her hand again. Thinking for a brief moment, his head would rock backwards to allow his eyes to cast their gaze up to the moon overhead briefly. After a spell his attention would return to the woman, only to then take their conjoined hands over to the one at his side where he would lift an index finger to lightly tap it against the wrist of the hand holding the book for the sign, “Time.” It was a basic sign, one that would divulge its meaning without a need to know Sign Language itself. Shortly following the action, their hands would swing back between them and both of his shoulders would rise and fall in question as if telling her he didn’t know, but wanted to. Time really never meant much to him, but due to the exhaustion he was beginning to feel, it certainly must have been getting really late in the night. Of course, it didn’t help that he didn’t sleep the previous nights no more than a mere hour or so, but it couldn’t be helped. On top of that, she would be able to keep track of how much time she had until she would have to part her ways from him. It was an eminent part of meeting someone and that was parting ways. Whether that would be permanent or not, was completely and solely up to her and her alone… Taking a moment, his mind began to wander over a couple stray thoughts, grinning inwardly as they came to a common conclusion. That was, if she did decide to spend her time with him, then he would definitely need to teach her Sign Language so they could communicate without the need for that stupid book. The idea made a smile slip across his face, but it would fade briefly as he recalled something from his conversation with that of Manic. The words, “A God may be able to fix that for you, if I achieve that goal come and look me up,” played over and over in his head for a couple of minutes. Was that something he would want…After spending a grand portion of his life handicapped in such a fashion, would it actually be something that would prove fruitful….? It was a question with no easy answer, but since this man wasn’t even a God then there was no point to even worrying about it. Besides, would he even do such a thing if he did become one? The answer was doubtful, but what else also bothered him was something that pertained to the woman in front of him. Would she prefer him that way or would she rather him this way…? It wasn’t something he was all too curious of knowing, since the truth was always much more gruesome to know than pleasant, given certain circumstances. This was one of them… |

A soft smile turned the corners of her mouth upward slightly when he yawned. Awww, that was adorable! She laughed inwardly at herself; she was finding everything about little Kaiden adorable, but she just couldn’t help herself. Kids were just so cute! They were indeed the sweetest things to ever grace Imythess. It broke her heart that not everyone else agreed with her. She would never understand how people like Calvin and those men that beat Kaiden up could live with themselves after behaving like they did. Shaking her head, she sighed, puffing the air upward to blow hair out of her eyes. She needed to stop thinking about that, since it was now a thing of the past. Kaiden was in very good hands now. He was clearly tired, so they were probably going to have to hurry off to Balefire so he could rest. She didn’t have a problem with that; the last thing either of them needed was for him to fall face down on the street because he was just so exhausted. He’d already gotten beaten up enough. The boy took her hand and pulled himself up, leading the both of them out of the alley. She blinked as he led her out, a bit confused. She had expected him to want to be carried, since he appeared to be so sleepy. Well… if he had the energy, then she supposed she would let him walk for as long as he wanted to; and he did seem to have that energy, what with a bounce in his step. Cordelia glanced down at him, watching him instead of the path in front of them. He only seemed to be becoming more and more tired as time went on, and he yawned once more. Really, he shouldn’t have been walking right now. She had been about to say something about it when he tapped a finger against his wrist. The woman tilted her head to the side for a moment before figuring out that he was asking for the time. Well, that was an easy sign to figure out! Thank goodness at least some of these signs weren’t too hard to understand. Cordelia looked up at the sky. She couldn’t tell exactly what time it was, but it was obviously getting later and later into the evening. She bit her lip, trying to keep in mind the passing time. It was a bit pathetic that she couldn’t tell what exact time it was, wasn’t it? All she ever really kept track of was when the sun would be rising, and she usually got physical signs like uneasiness in her stomach to warn her so she wouldn’t have to mentally remember. “Um…” she began uncertainly, “I don’t know… maybe… one or two in the morning?” She had a feeling it was after midnight. Hopefully the answer would be satisfactory, but she didn’t think it really mattered since neither of them really knew. On second thought, though, it did matter – no wonder the poor kid was so exhausted! Children weren’t supposed to be up this late at night. She was completely used to it, but little ones like Kaiden shouldn’t be up at these dark hours. As their hands swung between them, Cordelia simply smiled again. It was so nice to have a child back in her life! Of course, it would have been even nicer to hear him hum or laugh, or to hear his little voice. She could almost hear the sound in her head. It was so depressing that he was so young and would have to bear that pain for the rest of his life. No one as young as him deserved such trauma… she didn’t even want to think about the incomparable agony he must have gone through. Still, she had to remind herself that things could have been much worse for the boy. He could have still been with Calvin and he could have still been being beaten up by those men. Who knew what would have happened to him if she hadn’t come along? Besides, just because he couldn’t talk didn’t mean he wasn’t a normal kid. He still had feelings, he still had a personality, and he was still himself – not being able to speak was just a minor handicap. She would get used to the silence, and maybe he could even teach her sign language so he didn’t have to bring that book everywhere with him. It might be a little difficult, but she would try to learn just for him. In the end, it would make things much less troublesome for the both of them. And, besides, it would be absolutely fun to have their own sort of little language that only they could understand. Looking up at the sky again and recalling his tiredness and the late hour, Cordelia’s pace slowed until she was no longer walking. “All right, that’s enough…” she said as she let go of Kaiden’s hand and crouched down low enough so that she was at his level. “Get on my back, I’m carrying you the rest of the way. It’s late, you’re tired, you got hurt earlier, and for you to be walking the whole way is just crazy.” With any luck, he wouldn’t protest because of all the legitimate reasons she had given. If he did end up not wanting to still, then she would just have to force him. While she didn’t exactly want it to come to that, she would rather him be carried and not like it than the other alternatives. “It’ll be faster, anyway, and you can sleep if you want.” |

A quirked brow and look of semi-shock took upon his countenance when Cordelia began her splurge of words and reasons to listen to her. Deciding best not to argue, he would simply nod his head before moving behind her. Reaching both of his hands up to her shoulders, they would latch on gently enough not to hurt her, but enough to help him clamber up to her back, his legs would then proceed to bind themselves around her mid-drift just above her waist, where they would try to hook themselves over each other so there wasn’t a lot of strength needed to keep him in his spot. With book still in hand, it rested just upon her left breast while it dangled freely from his hand, but before she could begin moving again. Both of his hands would pull at her shoulders to bring him higher up onto her back, but to make sure that he wouldn’t slip back down, both of his arms would bring themselves so the upper portion of his arms supported the weight of his body. With both arms extended fully past her head and slightly in front of her, the book would proceed to shift in his hands until it presented itself with bare parchment to her eyes. From there, a hand would drift to its spine to hold it in supported nature, while the other flittered the tip of the pen across the page, “Taras Taras Library? Can we go?” Lifting the tip from the page, Kaiden would proceed to idly tap it a couple times atop the words Taras Library, before finally circling it. It was a place he really wanted to go, but was unsure if it would be wise to go there by himself due to his reputation throughout the city. Now that she was with him, there really wasn’t much to worry about anymore if she held true to her claims and actions. While he wanted to trust her unconditionally, there wasn’t a guaranteed certainty that would warrant that, especially with her rash outbreak of action and behavior towards him. Once he knew she read the message he wrote, the book would clasp shut between his hands, only to return back to his left once more. Adjusting himself upon her back, both of his arms would coil around her neck and overlap across her chest, the book dangling just in front of her chest as his hand continued its hold. Lifting his head, his chin would move over his bicep, before lowering it down upon it. Once settled, his head would tilt to the side to rest against Cordelia’s, eyes slowly closing afterwards to welcome upon the embrace of sleep, finally feeling safe for once in his life, safe within the hands of this stranger. The thought was odd, but he would do his best to ignore it…And then…All grew silent once again. |

Cordelia waited as Kaiden climbed onto her back, letting him adjust himself and get comfortable. As soon as his arms and legs were around her so that she was sure he wouldn’t fall, Cordelia rose back to her feet, placing her arms under Kaiden’s legs to offer extra support. She was glad he hadn’t protested; this way she didn’t have to worry about him anymore than she already did. She started off walking again, going a bit slower than usual. It wasn’t difficult for her to carry him; she just simply wasn’t used to carrying so much weight. She’d be used to it within a few minutes, she was sure. Besides, even if she was holding onto him, walking too fast might make him lose his grip on her and she certainly didn’t want that. As she walked, Kaiden started writing in the book, which caused her to smile a little bit. Even now when she was carrying him he was writing. She had to wonder how he communicated when he couldn’t use his hands to write or sign what he wanted to say… but she quickly dismissed the thought, not wanting to dwell on it. Cordelia’s eyes focused on what he had written once he finally started tapping the words and had circled them, causing her to sigh quietly. She really didn’t think that was a good idea. He was tired and hurt… what was the point in going to the library? He needed to rest; he didn’t need to read. “I don’t know…” came her reluctant voice. She didn’t want to upset him, but even so, this really wasn’t a good idea. However, once he closed the book and rested his head against her own, Cordelia immediately began rethinking her decision. It was true that he was hurt and that he was tired, but if he truly wanted to go to the Taras Library, who was she to tell him he couldn’t? He was a sweet kid and deserved to go there if he wanted to. She lightly turned her head, just enough so that he wouldn’t have to move but enough so that she could see him out of the corner of her eye, to tell him that they could go, only to see he was sleeping. Aww… he’d actually fallen asleep. The library wasn’t too far from here, but she could walk slowly so he’d have more time to rest. She turned her head back to the path before them and started off in the direction of the library; hopefully it would be a pleasant surprise for when he woke up. |
