Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

As she opened the tavern door, Verena was greeted by the very friendly atmosphere of people chatting, toasting and drinking; most of the patrons all smiles as they celebrated the day’s end. It was a rowdy yet pleasant scene, to say the least. And it only made the tavern that much warmer in comparison to the cold night’s air - which brought no complaints from Verena’s side, what with little but the clothes on her back to fend off the cold. She sighed as she raised the journal she was carrying for a quick look, doubting the wisdom of her decision to go for the book instead of the warm cloak. It was too late now however and so with a shrug, she stepped up to the barkeep - dropping a few coins onto the counter before ordering a mug of cheap warm ale.

She gave the crowd a quick glance as she waited for the barkeep, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she admired how carefree the people of Kellen appeared to be. She’d have to say, it was one of the better stops on her nomadic journey.

Her ears perked up slightly at the sound of a light clink and upon turning, she saw the drink she’d ordered. Feeling a bit parched from her travels, she was quick to snatch up the frothing mug, sliding herself onto the stool of a nearby table before taking a long needed swig from the ale; savouring the taste as she felt its warmth wetting her dry throat and only stopping to let off a satisfied sigh as she put the ale down with a light thud. Crossing her arms, she hugged the mug close to her as she rested her head next to it and on her forearm. It had been the first decent drink she’d had in some time as she’d been living clumsily off the forest for the past few days, being still new at the whole ranger bit.

It had been difficult adapting when considering how extravagant her life had been before her family had abandoned her. And while the prospect of becoming a ranger or cleric had seemed so easy back then, she was regretting her choice now. She hadn’t even been able to acquire a bow yet and while she made a little money off doing a few dead end jobs in each of the town’s she’d passed, she barely managed in the forest when she tried. Still, in hindsight, she was certainly doing better than when she first started. She shuffled a little in her seat with small groan escaping her lips as she remembered when she first started. “By the gods… the berries…” she thought woefully.

Only sinking into a deep depression with such memories, she tried to change the direction of her thoughts and instead, ended up wondering where she was going to sleep; it never ended…

She'd been out all night, walking and walking until her feet ached even when she was standing still. It had been a frustrating night so far. Her hat had gotten blown away by the wind earlier, which obviously caused multiple problems. She couldn't put on her little disguise tonight, and would have to either find the article or somehow steal another one. Not to mention the lack of a hat left her short, black hair exposed. It had knotted and, instead of being the usual stick-straight, her hair had decided to fly all over the face. With each strand that landed in her face, she could feel a tiny bit more anger pumping in her veins.

This dress was constricting. Cordelia had had no other choice than to put it on, however. The black fabric was tight around her waist and though the skirt was wide, it seemed to like sticking to her legs. She usually loved her cloak, but tonight, she would have killed (literally) to get that extra layer off of her. She should have just stayed home, but she enjoyed going out and spending her nights somewhere, anywhere, other than her home. One day, she would get around to cleaning it... but for now, it could remain the wreck that it was.

As she continued on her aimless path, the young vampire spotted a tavern. A groan escaped her lips; usually, she despised those places. Everyone was so happy, and laughing, and drunk far beyond the point of being obnoxious. Even so, her aching feet were screaming to have a rest, and it would be warmer in there than out in the street. That meant she could shed the nuisance of a cloak she was wearing. It seemed to be the best decision, and without hesitance, Cordelia entered the building.

She did her best to ignore the noise of the place, narrowing her dark blue eyes the moment the welcoming air surrounded her. She grumbled a few words to herself before walking to the barkeeper. If she didn't get at least something while in her, she was going to get odd stares, which she certainly didn't need. She would end up starting a fight if someone looked at her the wrong way, so it was best to just prevent that. She left the coins and requested a glass of water, since she had never been a big fan of anything alcoholic. She sipped at it as she looked around the place.

Just her luck! There was only one empty table, and someone was already sitting there! "Great," Cordelia said dryly, gliding over to the single table, looking at the other girl sitting there with ale. She wrinkled her nose slightly at the sight of the drink and took the seat opposite the elf.

"It's the only empty table, otherwise I wouldn't be here," Cordelia said; there was no point in delaying the reason she was sitting there. "You can ignore me if you like, I don't really care." She took a larger gulp of the water, blowing a few strands of hair out of her eyes.

It wasn’t long before Verena was dozing off, unaware as the tavern filled up with all manner of folk leaving her with the only open table. And while some had sat with her a few times, she had remained blissfully oblivious of their presences, her need for sleep far outweighing her need for light conversation. It was only after she’d started feeling a little more rested that her senses sharpened around her. Unfortunately just in time for the rude awakening by perhaps her most interesting visitor. It wasn’t often that Verena got to meet such an unusual creature after all, even if she didn’t know it.

Verena raised her head groggily to regard the woman upon hearing her speak, her mind reeling a little at the somewhat sociopathic introduction. “You make yourself a little hard to ignore, yammering on like that,” she responded curtly, frowning slightly at the interruption. “And no need to worry, I don’t bite,” she reassured her, teasingly jutting her head forward with a quick snap of her teeth, unaware of the irony in saying such a thing to a person like Cordelia. She said little else however as she proceeded to straighten up, stretching her arms out languidly as she attempted to get the blood flowing again and some feeling back into her body after her rather uncomfortable nap on the tavern table.

Only once she was comfy enough did she address the woman across her again, leaning forward while propping herself up on the table with her arms crossed, a tired smile adorning her features. “Where are my manners though, I’m Verena,” she finally added a little dryly in introduction, mostly thanks to the small chip on her shoulder caused by Cordelia’s own greeting. Despite her curiosity though, she held back from asking for the vamp’s own name, leaving the choice of whether or not she wanted to share up to her. As she waited however, she took the time to look over the stranger, trying to decide what to make of her.

She certainly seemed attractive enough as far as appearances went, with the sort of deep blue eyes you could lose yourself in. Although, her skin ran on the rather pale side which caused Verena to question the young woman’s state of health. And her disheveled hair, thanks to the rain, didn’t help things. Still, with a bit of fixing up, Verena could see a jewel in the making. She resisted the urge to point this out however, not up for causing a seemingly already grumpy person to become even grumpier.

“You make yourself a little hard to ignore, yammering on like that.”

Cordelia clenched her jaw, looking at the other female. She had been unaware that she had been sleeping... oh well, too late now. She could have easily sat there without getting dragged into conversation, but she had been too wound up to notice she could have saved herself some trouble. Sighing inaudibly, she tried to relax herself. "Mm, forgive me then," she said smoothly, lifting the glass to her lips and taking another sip of the water. The words were obviously insincere; she never genuinely apologized or asked to be forgiven.

“And no need to worry, I don’t bite.”

With a raised eyebrow, the woman simply watched as the other snapped her teeth. The coincidence of someone saying such a thing to her, of all people, was enough to actually make her laugh. Cordelia refrained herself, however, a mere hum of a laugh escaping the smirk that was on her face. "And should I care if you did?" She snorted, almost sounding cocky. She had always been a bit high on her horse. Even if this girl did bite, Cordelia doubted she would be anything other than a nuisance. Hardly anyone was a real threat to her... at least, that was how it was in her mind.

As Verena stretched, the twenty-seven-year-old simply watched boredly. "Falling asleep like that was careless of you..." she stated. Now she would probably be uncomfortable because of the position she had been in. Besides, there were all kinds of people in taverns... anyone was permitted. In places like this, it was always best to be on guard. Actually, it was best to be aware of everything anywhere. Cordelia didn't always live up to it — after all, she was a vampire, which meant she was stronger than anyone else.

“Where are my manners though, I’m Verena.”

It seemed that names were always so long. Cordelia didn't have much of a right to point that out, though, since her own name wasn't very short. "I'll be frank... I don't care about your name." She wondered if she should return with her own name. Since she wasn't dressed as a man, she couldn't very well use her last name without the sanity of her parents being questions, and her middle name sounded too old, too frail, and didn't suit her very well at all. "But I'm Cordelia." It was a fitting name, given her appearance and everything else about her.

"And should I care if you did?"

“I suppose that’s entirely up to you,” she responded flatly with a light shrug, missing the arrogance behind Cordelia’s comment and simply stating, in a matter-of-fact tone, “Personally however, I’d be slightly disturbed by anybody who felt compelled to run around and bite random people.” Of course, the thought of vampires didn’t even cross her mind once as she said this; which wasn’t surprising considering how rare the creatures of the night were. And if she had met any, she certainly wasn’t aware of it. Verena may have even considered them complete myths if it wasn’t for some of the other strange and fantastic creatures she’d seen during her travels.

"Falling asleep like that was careless of you..."

“Besides the fact that I’m holding little of value, I find it hard to believe I’ll be stabbed or raped any time soon amidst such a crowd but I feel so much better knowing that you care,” she sarcastically concluded, puffing a small lock of hair aside in irritation. She was quite aware that this woman was simply trying to rattle her chain; which was the reason she was determined to remain calm, not wanting to make it look like she was succeeding.

"I'll be frank... I don't care about your name."

Verena gave a tired sigh at that, wondering how talkative the woman would be with a stool in her mouth; sacrificing her only seat almost seemed worth it. “Unfortunate, because I’ve given it; feel free to go annoy someone else if it bothers you that much,” Verena retorted sardonically while lazily shooing the vamp away with her hand, knowing full well that there were no tables left. She knew the chances of Cordelia actually leaving however were slim. And here Verena was sure her day couldn’t get any worse but so far, it looked as if it was going to be a long night…

"But I'm Cordelia."

“That’s nice,” Verena yawned, more than spoke, covering her mouth as she steadily grew bored of the woman and her snappish comments. If she weren’t half-asleep she may have taken offence by now but as it stood, she was too fatigued to get angry. It was actually a bit of a let down that she’d given her name though as Verena had a few choice names to refer to her by if she hadn’t. Far be it for Verena to put such a friendly conversation on hold however and so, with just a hint of acid, she began, “Call it a hunch, but I don’t believe you’re here for the light ale and pleasant conversation; so what exactly are you here for?”

“Personally however, I’d be slightly disturbed by anybody who felt compelled to run around and bite random people.”

Cordelia smirked just a tiny, hardly noticeable bit. It was the response almost everyone had... but no one could ever understand something like that if it wasn't necessary for their survival. "Well, then I guess you've never tried it," she said this seriously, but the raised eyebrows and the smirk that was still on her face gave off the impression she was joking. Hopefully the statement would just confuse Verena; if not, Cordelia could always find a way to lie herself out of the situation.

"... but I feel so much better knowing that you care.”

The vampire snorted; care? She knew the other female was being sarcastic, but sarcastic or not, Cordelia didn't care about anyone. It wasn't who she was. "Don't mistake me pointing out your flaws and weaknesses as caring..." the woman said harshly. "I don't care what happens to you; I'm merely pointing out that you should try and be more on guard in places like... this." She wrinkled her nose as she looked around the place. The smiles, the cheer, and the laughter were nauseating. As soon as she was up to walking again and she had finished her water, she was going to get out of here.

"... feel free to go annoy someone else if it bothers you that much.”

"And leave a poor kid like you all alone? That would be rude of me," Cordelia told the elf. She loved being annoying, even if Verena wasn't getting as worked up as she would have liked. She couldn't have left if she wanted to, anyway. There was mo where else to sit, and she wasn't about to go back on the road and start travelling again. Her body would hate her forever for it.

“Call it a hunch, but I don’t believe you’re here for the light ale and pleasant conversation; so what exactly are you here for?”

That was a very interesting question, to say the least. Cordelia rested her arms on the table, looking Verena in the eye. "Just a little rest stop on my road," she said. "It isn't the greatest weather outside and my feet are killing me. What, is it a crime now to just come into a building and sit down for a bit?" Besides... if some drunk person left this place, she could potentially have a little snack. People with too much alcohol in their systems were never very aware of what was going on around them.

“Umm, I’ll leave that to you then…” she offered after Cordelia’s subtle suggestion to try it, scrunching her face a little in disgust at just the thought of gallivanting about and biting who knows what sort of dirty people. She once again, was blissfully unaware of how serious Cordelia actually was about the whole thing. Either way, she was actually pleased to hear a joke coming from the vamp, but such pleasantries were shot lived as the woman responded to her last statement, opening the doors for an equally biting rebuttal on Verena’s part.

“Was my sarcasm that hard to miss? Should I resort to smacking you with a sledge hammer every time I opt to be a little cynical, just to let you know of that which most people with a little common sense would spot a mile away?” she prompted, her eyebrow now raised in scrutiny as her tone practically dripped with venom - hoping the rhetorical nature of her question wasn’t missed this time too. However, at Cordelia’s next comment, her shock at the woman's gall only increased as she dismissed the ‘rude’ comment.

“Kid? Oh right, because you humans live so much longer than us elves, hmm…? That was sarcasm, by the by,” She gave Cordelia an audacious wink after adding that little tidbit to the end. Now trying to beat the stranger at her own game, unlike before when she would have preferred to simply ignore her and sleep. It was hard not to rouse her when it came to slinging insults though but she mostly preferred it when it was in good nature, while this appeared to be nothing more than to bother her which was peculiar, in her eyes, to say the least.

What, is it a crime now to just come into a building and sit down for a bit?"

“No, just as it’s not a crime to get up and leave; am I being too subtle?” She was glaring daggers now in Cordelia’s direction, feeling fully awake and not just a little irritable thanks to their growing spat. She had to wonder how far this woman was willing to go because seriously, Verena wasn’t so sure she’d be able to do much more than make a quick getaway in any fight. She was still attempting to hone her blade skills, after all. She was almost willing to try in this woman’s case though, feeling someone had to teach her a lesson.

"... just to let you know of that which most people with a little common sense would spot a mile away?”

An eyebrow rose steadily when she said that. Cordelia had to admit, the statement had lost her, especially when sledge hammers were introduced. That didn't seem very relevant at all, in her opinion. "I don't believe I missed anything..." she said in response to what other people could see from a mile away. "Except, perhaps, for the sledge hammers. I didn't understand that very well." The woman simply shrugged; it didn't make a difference to her whether she ever figured it out or not. Not knowing would probably save her an unnecessary headache, though.

“Kid? Oh right, because you humans live so much longer than us elves, hmm…?...

Human? This girl thought she was a human? A snort of a laugh came out of Cordelia’s throat at the thought, and she made a move to quickly cover her mouth in an attempt to suppress the giggles. Her, of all people, a human. It was such an outrageous notion that she could barely contain herself. Cordelia never had been human, and never would be; to be honest, she was grateful for that. Humans were so weak in every aspect… it made them too easy to take advantage of. “How dense are you?” the woman questioned, her obnoxious giggles finally halting. “Tell me – do you really think I’m human?” It took all her self control not to explode into a fit of laughter again. That simple statement just made coming here worth it.

“No, just as it’s not a crime to get up and leave; am I being too subtle?”

“Oh… so you want me to leave,” Cordelia mused. She shrugged her shoulders, entertaining the thought for a moment. It wasn’t much of a surprise that she would be asked to leave another alone. She was too annoying, frustrating, obnoxious, and mean to really have people want to stick around her. A small smirk tugged at her lips as she tried to make a decision as to what to do. If she left, she was out of fun for the night and poor Verena would be left all alone. If she did leave, she might be making a wiser choice, but then the elf might be left with some sort of satisfaction. “Eh, I think I’ll stay. You look a bit lonely, anyway.”

"So, how long have you been in this place, anyway?" Cordelia asked, looking around the tavern once more. "I don't see how you could stand it, much less fall asleep in it..."
